I brought my kids here for a Valentine's dinner while their mommy was in class. Â It was pretty bad. Â First off - they charge for refills on pop, so beware - I was caught by surprise with a $6 charge for the first pop with two refills - ouch. Â It would have been nice to get some kind of advanced warning on that. Â For our meals, I ordered wings and a bowl of chili while my kids had mini corn dogs, a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. Â The wait for our food was long - about a half hour. Â They brought out my chili first, at least 15 minutes ahead of my kids' food - very awkward. Â The chili looked and tasted like it was prepared days earlier - it was barely viscous. Â When the wings and kids meals finally arrived, everything was lukewarm. Â You could tell it had all been sitting in the cooks window for a long time. Â If someone would have stopped back and asked me how my food was, I would have told them. Â But they didn't. Â Â
The sad thing is - I live in a neighborhood right across the street, so it would be great to have a nice little pub and grill close to home ... but I won't be going back. Â I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one because the atmosphere inside is actually kind of cool, plus I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it could have been just an off night. Â On the other hand, if it's Valentines Day, you'd better have your A-game. Â That night, they did not.
What better time to showcase our Firestone Country Club in Akron Ohio? This week some of the best golfers in the world are here for the annual Bridgestone Invitational, as it is called now. Tiger is here and has won 6 times already, going for an historic number 7! Who can forget his shot in the dark to win several years ago in 2000? Instant classic!
We, living in Firestone Park Ohio, always know when this time of year is near. The signs go up everywhere around us for directions and parking. They set up many lots with busing available to make your day easy and special. The blimp with its cameras for great overhead shots is always visible from my home this week. I think Tiger could probably hit a ball to my Firestone Park neighborhood.
This week, a restored short film came out that shows Harvey Firestone teeing off for the grand opening of Firestone Country Club on August 10, 1929. If you have read any of my posts on my home, Firestone Park Ohio, you know some of the many things this great man did for our area. Harvey built the park for his employees to enjoy. Since the '60's it has been mostly a country club and some what difficult for the public to play on without invitation. They did open a nine hole public course in 1999 and it is a great place to play and have a great lunch or dinner. Hackers Restaurant opened there with a driving range attached, that stays very busy in the summer. The restaurant is open all year around and because of it's affordable, good food does quite well. I highly recommend Hackers Bar & Grill for it's good food, atmosphere and cozy bar with generous drinks.
Enjoy our very own Firestone Country Club on national TV this week and think of me as I will be around. I will toast all of my good ActiveRain friends at Hackers Bar & Grill as Tiger gets number 7!
