For my very first visit to Harpo's, I wanted to sit outside on the patio. Unfortunately, it started raining. Inside, the waitress greeted our table promptly and took drink orders for a Classic Margarita and an O'Fallon 5 Day IPA. They were delivered quickly and tasted great for a happy hour pick-me-up. We both ordered the Pork Tenderloin with fries (see my "tip" for an idea on how to order this sandwich). This bar food favorite is one of my guilty pleasures. The tenderloin was surprisingly meaty and the fries were crispy. Overall the food was pretty good, but typical for a sports bar. The atmosphere, however, wasn't exactly my favorite. It was really dark inside, the floor was sticky and the plates stuck to the table as well. I might try this place again, but will likely sit outside on the patio for some fresh air and sunshine!
Review Source:Eh. Service was pretty awful. Unfortunately, the food wasn't anything special, typical bar food, but it took forever to get a waitress to come by just to order some drinks. Once we flagged her down she acted like we were bothering her and asked if we ordered beers at the bar previously. We said we ordered the first ones from the bar before we got the table. She acted like she didn't need to help us out since we had previously ordered from the bartender. Umm..ok..we were now at a table so we expected to be able to order from the waitress.
Review Source:Went to Harpo's for NLCS Game 4 last week. As far as sports bars go, this one leaves quite a bit to be desired.
Atmosphere: Just seemed a bit stale. Our Cardinals were beating up on the Giants and it seemed like nearly all of the employees were bored, even though there was a lot to do.
Service: The service was extremely slow. This place was not packed, by any means, but our table of 8 waited 15 minutes before being approached by a waitress who brought a water, said she'd be back for drink orders, and then we waited another 10 minutes.
Food/Drink: Above average. The bartenders knew what they were doing. Best part of this bar. The food was decent, not spectacular.
I probably won't go back to this Harpo's again. After being to the one in Columbia, MO, this one just seemed like a disappointment.
Met my niece and a bunch of her work friends last Friday to celebrate her last day -- and starting a new job Monday.
We sat outdoors, and it was just delightful with the handy umbrellas and a lovely breeze. A guy was playing the guitar and singing to offer some ambiance.
They have Diet Mountain Dew!!! Yippee!!
Lots of good, substantial bar foods were ordered. Soft pretzels with cheese dipping sauce. The pretzels were long, not curled up, and looked like fresh, soft bread -- beautifully browned.
Nachos were served on a huge platter. She chose chicken as her protein, and it was buffaloed. Tasty hot! This was a massive serving for at least three.
Turkey burger was gorgeous and served with lettuce and tomato.
Our lovely server Julie did a fabulous job of keeping track of food, drinks and everybody's different tabs.
It was a delightful celebration for my niece, and I was honored to have been invited!
Sets the bar in bad service. Â
It really does hurt to give this place two stars. Â It should be a single star, but for some reason I return although I ban it every time I leave. Â It has a great patio, so much potential that is mired by it's service. Â In the future I will use Harpo's as the mark for the low bar in service. Â
Specifics? Went last night sat at an outdoor seat with two friends and waited 30 minutes for a waitress to even glance over. Finally went in and grabbed a beer from bartender. Â I have no idea where they go! Â They just bolt for a quarter of an hour and then come back... Maybe.. This isn't a rare occurence and once again I find myself banning the place again.
Harpo's used to be the place to go in Chesterfield, but is slowly dwindling. The service is adequate, but the drinks are nothing to write home about. The karaoke has definitely been falling apart lately as well.
I would recommend going for their lunch sandwich specials, but wouldn't recommend a visit outside of the lunch time crowd.
I went for lunch. Â They had a nice special, with an 8 oz sirloin, salad and baked potato for about $7.00. Â It was not the best steak, but was properly cooked and was better than a burger for more than that amount.
I will go back to try other parts of the menu. Â Not spectacular, but comfortable. Â Decent food. Â Good service.
I have been to Harpo's serveral times. Â Typically not the best service but overall a decent experience. Â I was there with a group on Saturday night and we were seated on the patio. Â Our service was really poor. Â We opted to go elsewhere since it was over 30 minutes since we had last seen our server. Â I actually had to track her down inside as she was waiting tables inside too in order to get the bill. Â She said she would be right out. Â Waited 10 minutes then took her our payment. Â There really is no excuse for such poor service. Â Hire another server. Â Poorly managed.
Review Source:Sorry Harpo's, I just don't like you anymore! I used to happily come here quite a bit during my college days, but my trip back turned out to be not so nostalgic.
Terrible karaoke song choices, over crowded, over carbonated draft beer (it seriously tasted like beer flavored carbonated water), and obnoxiously drunk groups of people. I am not sure if sports game watching or lunch time is better here, but I do not recommend coming on a Friday or Saturday night during karaoke. They have a nice patio and are a Mizzou bar, but those are the only nice things I can say.
The worst part...charging a $3 cover. Listening to a crappy DJ and people singing crappy music is not worth $3. Sorry dudes!
The waitress recommended the fried crawfish appetizer as their #1 dish. I disagree, its an acquired taste. Give me toasted ravioli or fried shrimp any day, but fried crawfish is too "gamey." Steak sandwich was a 3 out of 5 because it was nothing special. The burger was the same. Nothing special. Cheese, bun, burger. Service was decent.
Review Source:My son and I were on our way to the Butterfly House, were hungry and stumbled upon Harpo's. I had never heard of it, but decided to give it a try. My son was on a mission to find pizza and I figured there would be a chance this place might have some.
There were some people sitting outside as well as a couple tables inside, but the place was not busy. There was the bartender and one waitress. The waitress seemed to be busy with other tables so the bartender got us started. I opened the menu and saw that they offered Shakespeare pizza and was relieved that they had pizza. So I ordered a peperoni pizza for my son and I and a small order of hot wings.
The next time we saw our server was when he brought out our food, and then he disappeared again till I waved him down to get the check. Speaking of the food, I was disappointed by the pizza. When I saw they offered Shakespeare pizza I instantly thought of the pizza I had in Colombia by the same name, but alas this tasted and looked more like a Tombstone frozen pizza. Thankfully my son is no pizza connoisseur, and he happily ate his pizza. The wings were pretty good, they had a decent heat to them and the classic hot wing flavor. The small order came with about a dozen wings which was more than enough.
The final disappointment came with the bill, $25 for some wings, what tasted like a Tombstone frozen pizza and two drinks. I found that a bit pricey for what we got, but I guess lesson learned. The two star rating of Meh, I've experienced better sums up our experience there perfectly.
Sundays are great at Harpo's. There's a cheap burger special for a few bucks with a side of delicious fries. One of the only places I know of where my parents and I can get out for less than $15. The waitstaff is usually pretty terrible (I guess because our order isn't that large), but the burgers are decently good. Last time I went, we sat outside with family friends and enjoyed the summer weather outside. I ordered a beer (under $3) and had a pretty nice (and cheap!) dinner.
I haven't been on other nights, but I would highly suggest going on Sundays because of the cheap burgers and there are plenty of places to sit.
Upon entering on a late Wednesday night, I was confused as to if I'd made a mistake. Restaurant or Club? Not my scene!
Wall to wall college kids home for the summer and to top it all off singing karaoke.
Typical bar decor, wooden tables and stools to match, seating is hard to find and elbow room even harder.
I opted for the large patio. Nice open space and a welcome from the smokey atmosphere inside.
Bar food is provided with a large selection of appetizers on display. Try the chicken nachos. Tasty and a generous portion, more than enough to share.
Though service overall friendly, establishment to busy to experience any authentic hospitality.
Side note- Visit Sunday Afternoon. Plenty of seating room and $2.99 burger/fry special you can't beat.
Ugh. Â The only reason that I give two stars is because we had fun watching my friend karaoke LL Cool J, then being approached by a young lady to admire his prowess and ask him to dance, and having to turn her down because his "wife probably wouldn't appreciate that," and then razzing him because she wasn't that cute while he mumbled "Shut up, guys, I've still got game." Â Also, I probably would have sung some karaoke myself if we had stayed long enough for me to get lit. Â
Otherwise, this place blows. Â Most of the patrons are hick frat/sorority types (as opposed to the privileged or entitled frat/sorority types that I'm used to in Lakeview and Lincoln Park bars in Chicago). Â In two hours we heard this one country song three times. Â Our native friend explained to me that the western suburbs are much more rural than suburban. Â Okay, I don't get that because I have never seen miles and miles of Home Depots and Steak and Shakes in farm country, but I'll take his word for it. Â In any case, get off the crap country music and at least select some solid 80's or 90's pop music, kids. Â
And the smoke...good grief. Â St Louis County and/or State of Missouri--get with the program on your smoking laws. Â You are living in the dark ages. Â Even in the bad old days of pre-01/01/08 in Chicago, this place would have practically choked me to death. Â Now that I am used to smoke-free bars, it was nearly intolerable.
