This is a stately club located near the capital.  The food is decent, though somewhat rich, and service is excellent.  Business has decreased from lobbyists and politicians as a result of overly-strict ethics regulations in the state of Connecticut.

Excellent food. I highly recommend their lobster bisque. This place has a friendly staff & a great atmosphere. If you're looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner- this place has some of the best food in Hartford.

Great for a business meeting or a date.

This place is fun!  For me, growing up on the poorer side, it was like walking into a different world  It is very evident that you are surrounded by money upon entering the facility, but they don't make you feel out of place.

The building is very artistic - it has been renovated over time to restore its elegance.  They have a coat check and will kindly take even your wet umbrella.  We attended one of their many events, the University of Hartford Symphony plaid for the evening followed by dinner.  The show was wonderful, but I do wish I had a chance to go back and try dinner where I could order what I wanted to order.  I always find that it is truly hard to be super successful with catered mass-produced meals.

Overall the evening was nice, and I was very thankful I had the opportunity to see the facility.  I am sure with all the added perks, free parking, accessibility with clientele (way to impress!), various social events, and clubs to join, etc. it is well worth the monthly dues (if you are sure to utilize the facility and you can afford it).

The dues are based on a slide scale depending on your age - effectively the older you are the more you pay because they feel by then you must be raking in the big bucks if you are member of their astute facility.  They also find that they are short and will require members to pay a one-off fee to maintain their membership.

Unless you've got a hundred bucks a month to blow or are a local business person out of downtown you probably won;t ever see a need to belong to a club like this, but it's still nice to piggyback along off another member and rub elbows with some rich folks.

Aside from being able to use the space to meet clients, eat at the restaurat or hold your own private functions, being a member allows you to join in on a whole bunch of random activities, from cooking classes to cigar clubs and everything in between. The wife and I were invited as guests to see the UHart symphony play and then have dinner afterwards. The music and event were really cool, though the dinner was mediocre. The whisky selection was laughable which proves that just because you have money doesn't mean you have good taste.

The building is historic so there's lots of handcrafted wood trim and loud hotel-type carpets. Free parking is also included in the membership so if you spend about a hundred a month to park and work nearby you should make this your parking lot and all those extra perks would be free.

I was going to write a review of this year's West Hartford Rotary Club's annual Jazz Brunch at the Hartford Club but Chuck Obuchowski of the Hartford Courant beat me to the punch in this morning's Hartford Courant. I can't add a thing to his wonderful review other than to talk a bit about the delicious New Orleans inspired buffet. A link to Chuck's excellent review follows this note. This was the second year in a row that the Hartford Club decided to go with a New Orleans buffet, and I was a bit disappointed until I realized that it might have been a homage to the Delfeayo Marsalis Quintet who hails from that jazz mecca. The food last year was good, but this year it was great. Every thing I tasted was delicious. Loved the fried oysters and I couldn't get enough of them. The gumbo, the shrimp po-boys, salads, etc., all superb. Least I forget the desserts: super yum! Delfeayo Marsalis dedicated the first song of the second set to the dessert chef. This event was most likely the best combo of food and jazz I have experienced at the Hartford Club. Keep up the good work, West Hartford Rotary Club. I will definitely be back next year.
