Props to Hilarities for such a pleasant experience each time I attend. Â Seemless transitions between getting seated, timely service on food and drink, and a great atmosphere. Â Each comic brags how nice this place is for a comedy club. Â As a guest, I'd say the same. Â Ordering only small bites and drinks, I've been satisfied each time. Â Those servers have the timing down and make it seem so easy. Â
One suggestion I do have; reading lights on the checkbook. Â How the heck do they expect you to be able to see that without being rude using your cell?
All in all, very nice experience.
I love comedy; it's what life is all about.
Hilarities didn't fail to deliver a great show on a Friday night to two guests who were new to the city of Cleveland (thanks Yelp for helping us track this place down!). We purchased tickets at the box office and although they had some computer issues (so tickets took a little while), the women behind the counter were pleasant throughout the whole experience.
We were seated as we walked downstairs to the show and enjoyed the drink / appetizer service as we did the comedy. I loved the ambiance here too -- a great place to go on a date. Upscale, but not snobbish. The acoustics are great too. There's not one single bad seat in the house. Whether you're in the front or the back, it's a win. You can see!
-1 star for the food options. Would love to see more available and even some upscale tapas options (oysters, please!) to fit the environment. We enjoyed the fresh veggies appetizers, but would have liked to see more veggies in it ;).
Small tip: use the bathroom before the show, as after -- everyone rushes to it and there's some crowding, especially on a popular show.
OK...to say I love this place is an understatement. Â First of all, if you sign up on their website, they will throw free tickets at you at least once a week. Â Seriously, I have a restraining order against these folks.
Comics are usually so good, my sides and cheek muscles hurt after a show. Â Sometimes, out of three comics, we get one that is just OK. Â But usually... EXCELLENT.
Beer selection is boring. (Really? Â I've gone right to the beer so fast? Â Geez.) Â BUT, they will pull beer from the bar upstairs at Pickwick and Frolic if you ask. Â No really.. they will.
Menu at Hilarities is fine. It's a comedy club folks. Â
Wait staff is usually very attentive. Â As boring draft beer selection is $1 per glass M-Thur... Tip these folks well! Â We always tip according to the hustle, not the bar tab. Â
With the free tickets that are thrown at us, and the cheap beer nights, we can enjoy a night out for under $20. Â And that includes parking. Â Seriously...TIP YOUR WAIT STAFF.
i LOVE THIS PLACE. Â Let's face it... 4th street is just awesome. Â This is another jewel in the crown.
Went to a great show- warm up performers were obviously more mediocre but nonetheless really liked how the theater was set up (the booths are great) and had a great time. Drinks were expensive, but that's to be expected. Great waitress and nice that they included the menu from the upstairs restaurant.
Review Source:Had a great time here...it was loud, but fun! Â We had an excellent waitress...however, we were there for a bachelorette party and brought a small cake and they charged us over $12.00 to slice it into six pieces. Â The venue is nicely lit, good ambiance and music and it was a sold out show.
The main comedienne, Natasha something or other, was not my cup of tea. Â She simply was an impersonator of other well-known female comediennes (notably, Chelsea Handler). Â It's pretty sad when the audience members that are pulled up on stage are more funny than the person you paid to see...and she was quite insulting to the audience (she said, sarcastically, "I might stay around , depending on my mood after the show, so I MIGHT see you.") Â She had to be rescued by someone. Â Now, the other three comedians, they saved the night. Â Spectacular. Â They made me crack up.
The only reason I knock off a star is because it is not easy to find the entrance to this place. Â You have to go through Pickwick and Frolic's, but even then, there aren't any signs.
Great club. Came here around Christmas for a "comics come home for the holidays" show of all Cleveland comedians. Â It was a sampler of 10 comedians giving their best 8 minutes, and it was absolutely hilarious. Â The venue is incredibly nice, clean, lots of bars around, good service, and some great signature drinks available. Â
To make a night of this, combine it with dinner at Pickwick and Folic, the attached restaurant.
This was my first trip to the East 4th district of Cleveland, and it seems like a fantastic place to hang on a summer evening. Â Will definitely be back to both the area and Hilarities.
Great place to go for a fun time! The comedians are all very funny and the atmosphere is amazing. My girlfriend and I were looking for something different than our routine dinner dates. We were both surprised by how much fun we had seeing Craig Shoemaker. Both of us did not stop laughing for 2 hours. Everything was very reasonably priced compared to similar venues ( Tickets $15-20 on weekends) and you can order pitches of craft beer ($10-15)! The entire menu is available in the theater and the staff does a great job making sure your drinks stay filled. I highly recommend everyone in Cleveland experience a show at Hilarities, you will not regret it!!
Review Source:Awesome. This was my first time at a comedy club of any kind so take that for what it's worth, but I really enjoyed this place. The decor was upscale and the atmosphere was classy but not uppity at all. I also like that they have a fancy martini bar I could retreat to after the show (seating was very limited though). It's a good spot for a date night or special occasions (I saw brides, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and even newly engaged couples). Definitely a different albeit welcome vibe from the nightlife on West 6th.
For the show itself, the opening act as well as the headliner (Jo Koy) were hilarious, and the crowd was fully into it and not rude at all.
Drinks are a little pricey as expected, but their cocktails are a little on the small side and not very strong, so I went with bottled beer for the rest of the night. Food was good, nothing extraordinary. Tried the buffalo chicken wrap with fries. Service was good.
Overall it's a really nice venue in a fantastic location in the heart of East 4th, and I definitely see myself going again, especially when it gets warmer.
Hahahaha! Â
Hilarities is Hilarious!
Every time I've gone, I've not only been impressed by the headliner but by the two opening comedians. Â It's a real gem to have such a nice facility with big names right in the center of Cleveland. Â
It's a great venue, complete with glittery backdrops. Â I've always been sat at a good table (is there a bad one?) and the service is wonderful.
Keep in mind though, two drink minimum at the tables!
I have only been to two comedy shows, Norm McDonald and Dom Irrera, both at Hilarities. I saw Dom Irrera last night and I really laughed a lot. Both times, I wasn't too thrilled with the local opening acts. They do try their best. I just never find them funny. Coming here is a good break from my usual sitting at the bar and staring off into space. Sometimes it is good to get thrown out of a comfort zone.
Review Source:Complimentary tickets to Hilarities for Pickwick & Frolic's 8 year anniversary show? Why, yes! I'd love to celebrate a Cleveland business lasting almost a decade! (That's like 50 in CLE years, by the way...)
Wow. On this particular occasion, I think this comedy show was more of a  "Cleveland Roast", but man was it funny.  I love this city deeply but I think part of that affection is being able to laugh at good ol' CLE too. Or I'm just a jerk. Whatever.
Hilarities is my favorite venue to catch a gut-busting comedy show in the city. First off, the location is money. Right smack in the middle of E.4th Street and inside of the fabulous Pickwick & Frolic - that's a win/win if I've ever seen one. The ambiance is killer too. Upscale, but not pretentious. It's even a little old-school with a speakeasy-esque cherry on top. Â Especially as you walk through Pickwick, visit the antique box office and head down the big, carpeted staircase with gold accents.
The theater itself trumps the Improv's space, in my opinion. The seating is super comfortable for lounging and laughing. The spacious theater is dark and has an industrial feel with newly renovated touches. Very Cleveland. The beautiful purple chandelier always catches my gaze at least 10x per show, but that's mostly because my attention span is like .005 seconds long. Â
Service has always been great for me, although Hilarities gets a star knocked off for their 2 drink per person minimum order. Honestly, I'm always up for more than one cocktail, but a rule? That sort of thing pisses me off. If I'm ordering another drink it better be MY choice, not your's! I think the only thing that irks me more than minimum drink orders is minimum credit card limits! Not only is that illegal, it's obnoxious...but I digress...again.
Hilarities: Great shows, local business, awesome vibe and location. I could keep listing what makes it great, or you could just go there already! Gaaaawd!
After a disappointing time at the Improv a few weeks back, I hoped Hilarities, on East 4th, located inside PIckwick and Frolic, would be a step above, and it is.
The atmosphere and decor is more sophisticated than the Improv with a small small in the corner, a grand chandelier hanging above from the vaulted ceiling, feeling like a orchestra concert hall from the 1920s with a balcony upstairs.
Drink-wise, there's a few signature martinis ($9) and margaritas ($6.50), and a selection of beers, many domestics, a few imports [stella, peroni, amstel], and a couple great lakes ($4-5). There's also ice cream, always a pleasant surprise on the drink menu. There's food although I didn't look at the menu.
With complimentary tickets [I won them at a fundraiser although, although they were invalid for special events, which were a majority of the shows, alas], my party was seated on the main floor. There's a 2 drink minimum [it applies Sunday through Thursday].
With the near capacity crowd, our server was competent. The acoustics were ok.
Along with the main act, there was 2-3 openers from Cleveland and the MC who gave me a free t-shirt and anointed me as ''Harry Potter, all grown up.'' Gee, thanks.
Compared to the 'Smash Club' [I mean Improv], Hilarities has a more sophisticated atmosphere and [and newer] decor, more accessible by its East 4th location, and has more famous comics.
I've seen two comedy gods here in the last year, so maybe that's why i like it. It is really snazzy compared to that dump, the Improv, across the river. Also, the Improv has real crappy comics. Not Cleveland-comedian crappy, but still crappy. Back to Hilarities: very cool theatre with very intimate seating and attentive staff. I pass on the karaoke/champagne bar or the dinner theatre ( not my scene, man). East 4th used to be a uriney alleyway with junk shops and wig stores, so the new look is astonishing. Now you can head over to west 6th for your uriney alleyway needs.
