We went here after a day of hiking and I was pleasantly surprised at downtown Nashville.  Hobnob is a quaint no fuss place you can come in casually dressed, but feel pampered by their hospitality.  They have the pastry case and cash register in the front to pay after your meal.  There are good classic American sandwiches for lunch and nice cuisine for dinner.  I like how I can get veggies (steamed not drenched in fat!) with the meal.  Our waitress was courteous, kept the drinks and condiments filled; checked on us just a the right times  We came at 2 pm for lunch and although there was no wait, almost all the tables were taken.  The pastries were on the side of crispy, but I ate the entire cheese Danish. The pot roast sandwich is their star attraction, but I liked my Rueben although a little light on the meat.  I'd imagine there must quite a wait a meal times.  On food it hits the basic notes well.  Yes they have simple wooden chairs,  come on, I think you can see it when you walk in.
Review Source:Had lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Â Both had the Pot Roast Sandwiches and steak fries. Â Service was friendly and prompt. Â Sandwiches good, meal size good.
No complaints whatsoever. Â We'll be back. Â
Amost forgot, They also has baked goods at the cash register, The cookies were good, but pricy at $2 each.
We usually go to Nashville 1-2 times a year and have never eaten here but usually at the restaurant right across the street from Hob Nob.
Last time I saw how friendly The Nob looked from the outside and said we will eat there next time. Very disappointing.
Here it is.
Waitress with blond hair and pigtails she is to old for is incompetent.
at 25 minutes waiting for french onion soup I asked where it is, I got it takes longer for french onion, This is a urban myth by restaurants that it is SSOO complicated to make it. NO it is not. It takes 2 minutes longer to throw some bread and cheese on the top of the bowl and broil it. The table next to us was seated, ordered, received their non french onion soup AND their meal and as we were just getting our soup. Before she walked away we confirmed 3 bowls, and she only had one.
The first one came out 3 minutes later with the cook doing a "quick job" on the next 2 following 2 minutes after. So much for the laboring for hours over the soup we heard about.
The soup was disappointing is an understatement. They used a slice, YES A SLICE of whole wheat bread with a blend of white and yellow cheese as the topping. This is not French Onion soup! There is a reason it is called FRENCH soup.
The sausage I ordered was sliced in half and grilled and put in a hamburger bun and it had raw onions and green peppers on it. You serve raw green peppers on nothing, absolutely nothing.
The others with me had about the same experience. Empty spinach salad, hamburger was ok. and another sausage disappointment.
There was a lot of little other things that happened, but I will never be going back.
If you like good service and good quality, non weird food, don't go there.
This was a lovely stop in our day. Â I am allergic to wheat and dairy. Â Our waitress, Michelle took this into account, and asked if I wanted my food cooked with new utensils, to prevent cross-contamination. Â She went out of her way to take good care of us. The pot roast was incredible. Â 5 stars all the way around. My husband said the Pot Roast sandwich was by far the best sandwich he has ever tasted.
Review Source:We love to eat here when we come to town. Â They have good sandwiches & some of their full meals are good too. Â It's an old drugstore and has a great atmophere. Â It's great to come in from a hot day to cool off w/one of their flavored cokes or milk shakes. Â In reverse, they serve some good hot soups w/homemade ww bread on a chilly day. Â -oh, & don't forget a cookie on the way out!
Review Source:My husband and I were told that the food at this restaurant was good so we decided to try it as we were exploring Nashville's main street (very cute). Â The decor is not that exciting but we were very pleasantly surprised with our entrees. Â Also, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Â She mentioned that the owner's son is the chef and he was trained in France? Â Here is what we had:
* An ale by Olivier winery - it was quite tasty and refreshing on the hot day
* Rolls - maybe we were served some older ones; they may be good fresh out of the oven but otherwise a little tough
* Â Black bean soup - decent but at least not salty
* Poorman's jumbalaya - I think this was a special. Â My husband and I thought the flavors were great/authentic. Â We also joked that this is one of the few entrees where we thought "there is too much meat in here!" Â The andouille was very spicy in a good way.
* Homemade bratwurst and sauerkraut - very yummy! Â Definitely have it with the house mustard (more of a grain mustard)!
Next time, we will have to try the desserts :)
If you're a seasoned traveller, the Hobnob will be very average to you. But given the circumstances and the "limited" breakfast options, Hobnob Corner isn't too bad. They have great hot chocolate, and the portions are generous and a real treat on a cold fall morning in Brown County. They seat fairly quickly, it's always nice and warm and cozy. I really enjoy the pancakes, the french toast, the hash browns. It's all pretty good. Stop here at least once during your visit to Brown County.
Review Source:Everyone raved about Hobnob and it was okay. Â We had breakfast. Â The coffee was excellent and I enjoyed the hash brown omelet with veggies. Â Mom had a less than impressive omelet. Â The wheat bread was good - nice and grainy and it was baked on site. Â
WARNING! Â The benches for the booths are the most uncomfortable things I have sat on in a long time. Â Opt for a table.
It has been several years since I have been to Hobnob.  I had the Hill Country  Breakfast, for under $7, I got: (4) large pieces of bacon, (4) pieces of toast, (2) eggs over-easy, (1) gigantic biscuit with sausage gravy.  It was pretty good and definitely filling.  Since it is the off-season, I was able to park right out front.
Review Source:This is my go-to every time I come to Nashville. Â I always order the Rube Martin with fries and a Green River. Â If they have it, get the potato soup and the rolls they make are amazing! Â My favorites are the pumpkin (seasonal) and the rye. Â It's such a quaint place and it oozes history. Â Feels like you are in someone's dining room eating good, home cooked, comfort food. Â The waiting area is tight when busy, but well worth the wait... Even when the line starts coming out of the door down the stairs and along the sidewalk.
Review Source:This is a friendly, homey restaurant with excellent service and delicious, fresh food. Â The servers are friendly and helpful and the food is fresh and tasty. Â Don't forget to ask about their soup of the day. Â Their chili is excellent but seriously, when they say hot, they mean HOT! Â The lunch menu is more casual and country; the dinner menu turns more upscale, but everything is well-prepared and well worth it.
Review Source:I went to Hobnob Corner because there was a power outage at the lodge I stayed at while on a hiking trip in Brown County. No lodge breakfast buffet able to be made so out to town we went.
Nothing out of the ordinary as far as some over easy eggs and bacon were concerned. Bacon was crisp, eggs were fine. One thing that was a little different was the onion dill toast. It was really good and they bake it in the shop!
Friendly service and reasonable prices from what I remember. Good coffee as well.
The Hobb Nobb might be my favorite restaurant.  I go out of my way to go  to Nashville to eat there 3-5 times a year.  The best thing on the menu has to be the tuna melt.  I've been going to this restaurant every year for 20 years and I have gotten nothing but the tuna melt the past 3 years.  They are known for their fresh-baked cookies and quiche as well.  The steak fries are pretty good too.  To top it all off, the servers are incredibly friendly.  I know at least a couple have been there for over a decade and they love talking to all the customers.  The one negative thing I can think of is that they don't serve beer.  Otherwise, if you're looking for a place to dine in Nashville, Hobb Nobb Corner is your destination.
Review Source:My wife and I had lunch at Hobnob Corner. She had a tuna melt and I had a rueben sandwich. My wife's tuna melt was tasty. My rueben was good, the sauerkraut was especially tasty.
We had a freshly baked chocolate chip cooked which was outstanding!
We didn't have one but the strawberry shortcake looked insanely wonderful!
We just ate there for lunch and it was great. They have a very creative cook and menu. They have the regulars, but specials dishes for whats in season. Great black bean soup and vegetarian dishes. Its not cheap, but considering the quality, reasonable. The have a kids menu which is nice. The inside is nice and very vintage and cool with worn wood floors and such. The have homemade breads and cookies. Its worth the try... its our second time there.
Review Source:Hobknob harbors a lot of locals that seem to know each other here in Nashville, IN.
The service was the best part of our experience here. Â We had a long blonde haired sweetheart that was very sweet - and also apologetic when my brother simply didn't like his onion soup.
The Hobknob makes their onion soup a bit differently, with yellow cheddar cheese, rather than white, and chicken stock, rather than beef. Â
My mums, brother and I all ordered the special sandwich of the day: a battered cod fillet with red onion, lettuce and tartar sauce on the side. Â
It wasn't the large beer battered cod we were hoping for  - rather it was a flat, fillet that was most definitely frozen.  It was not minced, thankfully and actually tasted great when eaten as the sandwich. Â
The vegetables of the day : broccoli rabe, carrots and green beans went nicely with the sandwich, rather than the other choice of fries. Â
For dessert, we all opted for the family recipe : Strawberry shortcake.
This is a huge mound of nutmeg spiced sweet bread, fresh strawberries, strawberry cream and large fluffs of whipped cream.
I bet the regulars make THIS a regular. Â
It was good.
I wouldn't eat here again, simply because it feel a bit short of what we were expecting, and I don't plan on being in any other Nashville aside of the one in Tennessee, anytime soon.
This place has good food, seasonal menu and friendly staff. Â Most of food is made in house, breads, rolls, buns etc. Â Nice decor and feeling as if your back in the 1800's
They have a big wine list as this area has alot of small, local wineries.
Wife had Spinach salad. Â Nothing out of ordinary but alot of stuff w/freshly cut vegetables. Â I had breaded tenderloin, really good.
If you are going to spend the weekend than stop here. Â
Im a sucker for local stuff and that's what you will get.
In this small town your food options are limited, but this place served an ok breakfast. Friendly staff and quick service helped, but the food was just ok. I would say the omelet was a bit greasy for my taste. Biscuits and gravy could have been less sausage and more country gravy tasting. It wasn't bad but I would try the few other places the locals recommend before returning.
Review Source:a  below average eating venture.  boring food, and poor service.  5 people standing around and my family had to wait more than 10 minutes to get any type of ackknowledgement after we were seated.  food basic dining fair and there has to be something better in this quaint town.  reuben, tuna melts, and tendorloin sandwiches were our selections, and we will not be back
Review Source:The food was decent, the place was reasonably busy. Â For a small town restaurant I was pleased to see that there were several vegetarian options. Â The prices seemed a little steep to me. Â I had an option to get the "small" or "large" sandwich. Â I got the large, which was basically two open faced sandwiches instead of one. Â A small would have sufficed. Â Sandwiches don't come with sides.
I wish I could have graded this place 2.5 stars for the rude waitress. Â She took my order quickly but she disappeared and didn't bring my drink until she brought my food. Â I'd come in half an hour before closing, been sat and received my food quickly and ate in good time. Â I finished my meal right before 9 and was given a box and the check. Â The waitress checked in FOUR TIMES in the next few minutes and hustled me right out of the store.
The last time she came over to "check up on" me I laughed and smiled and said, "I get it, I get it, you want me to get the heck out. Can I just finish my glass of wine?" Â She made a sour face, huffed and stormed off around the corner at full speed.
I've worked food service, I understand that you don't want someone to linger for a half hour after you close. Â I don't think it's unreasonable though, to let someone stay two minutes after closing so that she can finish her glass of wine. Â I chugged the rest of my glass and passed several tables of happy, chatting people as I left the restaurant. Â I guess they weren't in her section!
Went here for lunch on a very hot day in Nashville. My wife and I escaped the heat and found this corner restaurant. I figured with a name like Hobnob you couldn't really go wrong.
This is a nice, simple restaurant which is good for lunch. I ordered a Rube Martin with fries. It was very good, and they gave me a ton of steak fries. The thousand island dressing was also very good.
My wife had their Hobnob Onion Soup which was loaded with cheese. She loved it, and said that it was her favorite onion soup she has ever had. It did look loaded with cheese!
We both got home made cherry cokes which were delicious on a hot day.
The service was good, and the building was neat. It is over 110 years old. The price was a little high, but it is a tourist area, so not surprising.
They also have local wines for great prices.
I would recommend it.
My favorite place to eat in Nashville.
I disagree with most of the other yelpers their menu is not traditional. Curry Chicken salad is not what you would expect on the average hoosier small town menu.
My favorite is the quiche and french onion soup. The best french onion I've ever had, try it and try to figure out what makes it so different than all other recipes. The answer is rather simple, if you can figure it out. There's always a line out the door at noon on the weekends, so try it at odd hours if you can, but it is well worth the wait. Â Lunch is the tourist crowd, while breakfast & supper are locally supported.
Also they do carry wine from the local Brown Co. vineyards.
Wonderful "home style" comfort food in an old warm lived in building within the heart of charming and whimsical Nashville. This place has amazing holiday vibes ALL year round, I imagine soft snow falling out its wise timeless windows as pipping hot food and smiles are served inside.
Stick with the Pot Roast Sandwich, French Onion Soup and Iced Tea. FYI their French Onion Soup makes my top ten list!
The Hobnob Corner sits right off of 135. The building is about 110 years old. However if you ask any native where to eat they'll tell you 'Hobnob" It's no mystery why. It's got good food for Applebee's type prices! However, I wouldn't suggest hitting this place in the summer. Well atleast Mid july - Mid September. Â Airflow doesn't exactly happen here. But if you want, by all means go for it!
I know i do.
This is a popular lunch destination in Nashville, even in the off-season. Â It is located in one of the oldest buildings in the commercial center of town, and feels authentically broken in. Â The floors are ancient wood, held together here and there with small steel plates. Â (Unfortunately, the restaurant would not be a good choice for the disabled - the entrance involves a couple of steps, and the very uneven floor would present a challenge to navigation.)
The traditional American menu is mostly sandwiches, salads, pastas, and a few entrees like meatloaf or steak. Â Although it doesn't really compare to the sandwich served at the (sadly, now closed) Gnaw Bone Gas and Food, the tenderloin sandwich at the Hobnob is certainly worth a try. Â The pork will be about twice the diameter of the bun. Â The French fries are thick cut. Â A codfish sandwich special was made from what was obviously frozen fish of dubiously symmetrical geometry. Â
Our service was fine and the prices are reasonable.
