Please note that this review is for the restaurant/bar. Â Thank God I never stayed here...
This is the second time I came here. Â The first was just for a drink about a year ago and the staff was crabby as hell. Â Unfortunately, I thought I'd give them another chance when I was in town again this year. Â Apparently I'm a slow learner...
There was supposed to be a Gazebo Party that offered "beautiful vista views" and live music. The party was moved indoors since they felt it was too hot. OK, I can understand that. And it may as well have been indoors since there was no vista view anyway. Â It would have been nice to see a vista though, especially after walking up the 200 wooden stairs it takes to get to the bar from the street. (And no, I'm not exaggerating.)
To say this place is outdated is an understatement. Â The indoor carpeted stairs are so dirty and worn that they should be embarrassed. The decor is clearly at least 25 years old. Â I'm not saying it has to be super new but a coat of paint would do wonders.
The food they had at the buffet was all heat-n-serve type foods like ribs, sausage, fried stuff. We didn't eat there, just looked at everyone else's plates. Having a view of the kitchen from the bar and seeing every move, nothing was being made from scratch.
The only saving grace was that the bartender was seasoned and knew how to make a good drink. Otherwise I would've been pissed because this place knows they're a dump. All you have to do is look around and see that they're trying to milk whatever $ they can until it changes hands or something. At one time this place was great and you can feel the ghosts of past eras. It reminds me of the kind of situation where the grandfather made it great and the following generations are just living off the reputation.
They need a makeover, big time. And not just in decor....
Room was very spacious but cost us a fortune!!!! Â More than we've spent on rooms in Chicago or New York. Â Soap dispensers on the walls in even the jacuzzi and bathroom - tacky, tacky. Â No amenities at all!!!!! Â Not a bar of soap, not a small bottle of lotion or shampoo - nothing. Â Furniture was old and worn. Â The restaurant offered great selections and honestly, we were almost afraid to eat there because of what our room looked like, but the food was outstanding- a welcome surprise. Â The room also didn't look clean to us. Â Â However, it was located in the busy downtown area which made everything accessible to us. Â The place is old but for goodness sakes, at the prices they charge they should at least replace some of the furniture, give you dishes and utensils for the kitchen (they cost extra) - something!
