This is a pretty neat looking bar.  It's my favorite bar to just hang out and have some drinks just because of the atmosphere.  You can see the place for yourself on their three webcams (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fhogsbreathkeywest.com%2Findex.php%2Fhog-cam-stage-cam%2F%25E2%2580%258E&s=0a7a63b00c2ccfa1bb8fd0b9dd7ab77cb44ae532dd537127509205f14e52d1b2" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://hogsbreathkeywest…</a>).  Their buffalo wings are some of the best I've ever had.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in Key West...
This place was fine. I had the Hogfish, which was their special of the night. Â It was my first time eating hogfish and it was great! Â Sitting on a sticky table, drinking a beer, eating some fish. It was good and fine although there are just too many places to eat in Key West that I wouldn't go back to this one.
Review Source:My husband and I always make a stop at Hog's Breath when we visit Key West since its a tradition but sadly it seems to be more and more touristy as the years go by. Â They also took away our favorite menu item...the chili potato skins :(
Drinks- try a the key lime pie mixed drink. the hog's breath version tastes most like a liquid key lime pie to me
Food- if you are just here for a snack then get the nachos but they are really more of a 2 person size (not 4 like we tried)
Kenny Chesney has also been known to do impromptu shows here. Theres videos on YouTube of him playing there if you want to check it out!
*** one more thing! ***
Don't forget side outside by the camera and call all of your friends back home and tell them to go on the hogsbreath website so they can see you on camera enjoying your key west vacation while they are stuck somewhere else on a computer :)
We were told it was a place we needed to try out while in Key West. I do not recommend it at all, what a waste. Ordered an appetizer and it came with a long curly black hair. Then to top it off my husband asked for another margarita and watched the extremely unfriendly bartender use the same glass which my husband had licked the salt off the rim and put it in the same communal salt dish which meant it was contaminated with everyone's saliva who had ordered anything with salt on the rim. And the bartender didn't understand what the issue was and continued to use the same contaminated salt. Disgusting.
Review Source:Great snacks, lively bar, and a live band. It is the perfect place to kick back and relax after a long day of doing nothing on the beach. This is the ideal destination for adults in search of the ideal spring break experience. Don't forget to pick up a souvenir cup, it's a great conversation starter back in your stuffy old New England office, believe me.
Review Source:Nothing wrong with it, nothing overall outstanding. Nice place to eat for lunch or to have a drink at. Food was tasty, service was good. The atmosphere was nice, but for those of you who don't like smoke, be warned you may run into it. I had the pulled pork. Very well done. Exited the restaurant through the shop and they have plenty of cool shirts. I just never buy that kind of stuff.
Review Source:Let's just say, I really needed a good beer and perhaps was in the mood for a little something to remind me of Milwaukee. I dig the crowd, all over the place. Obviously touristy. Â Leaned a little older. I loved that the bartender had his 6 year old sitting at the bar drinking apple juice and playing Rock em Sock em Robots. That's called bonding time. He knew his beer (The bartender not the 6 year old) and they had a couple on tap out of Hawaii. I was satisfied. Was definitely my favorite of all the touristy landmark joints in town. Make sure you sit at the bar, there are some fabulous Hawaiian shirted regulars.
Review Source:Service was very bad here. Â When I bought this to the attention of the assistant manager he started taking it personally and said he provides very good service and all of the reviews reflect his service. Â Read the other reviews for yourself and determine what you think of the service. Â He started screaming at me and making a scene at his own business, very unprofessional.
I brought to his attention also that I was watching tv and the bar tender came over and changed it. Â I told him I wanted to watch what was on, there were 3 other tvs with sports playing and he changed it anyway.
When I brought this to the attention of the assistant manager he said "well, they are not supposed to have it on anything other than sports and this is not your living room and who are you to tell me that I do not care about customer service, you don't know me". Â Well, I thought I was the customer I told him and if you give good customer service you are having a hard time showing it. Â
This assistant manager has no clue what customer service is all about and thinks that the business revolves around him and his business and not really serving the customer. Â I would definitely STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, you will not like it and it is not worth it!!!! Â I would give it 0 starts if it let me
This place is really quite bad. Â The shrimp po boy was made with the tiniest of shrimp and breaded enough to make it look like a small shrimp, then fried for hours. Â Terrible. Â The cole'slaw tasted old, the home made potato chips were good and so was the dill pickle. Â Maybe they weren't that great, but compared to the shrimp it was wonderful. Â My daughter had the calypso salad, expensive and meatless. Â The meatless part is great since she is vegan. Â My husband's fish sandwich was awful as well. Â The bar was hopping, and I guess we should have realized that you would have to be drunk to enjoy such bad food. The wait staff was more impressed with the idiot woman who had 26 oyster shots.
Review Source:I know this is another one of those Key West experiences you should have but I can't say I highly recommend.
I went with a friend because I had heard a lot of good things about Hog's Breath Saloon but honestly it just wasn't for me.
This doesn't necessarily make it a no-go but it's not my cup of tea. Slightly older crowd (45+) and more on the "rough" side - certainly more of your biker style bar.
For those of you who are into that type of atmosphere then this place might just be for you. Service and drinks were good. Just not for me.
Hog's Breath is Better than No Breath at All.
Great bar. Always have good live music, and it's nice to be able to call those not fortunate enough to be in Key West and have them log on to the webcam to see you living it up. Note that the gift shop closes far earlier than the bar, so if coming here for an obligatory coozie or T-shirt, make sure you do it while wandering the streets of Key West during the day.
I thought this place was going to be really touristy and had low expectations. But Hog's Breath surprised me with a great meal!
The atmosphere is typical Key West. Bar, indoor and outdoor seating, plus live bands playing. No fuss decor. The bathrooms could be a lot better though...eck!
For appetizers we ordered conch fritters and onion rings. Both were good...nothing exceptional, but good.
For my entree I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was excellent. The pork was tender and the sauce was flavorful. Great homemade chips as well. I tried a bite of my boyfriend's burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had!
Prices aren't too terrible either...hard to find cheap places in Key West so the prices here are pretty average compared to others. Give it a try!
Wandered over for drinks a few times on our long weekend in Key West. Â Didn't try the food.
A 'bar bar' that's super laid back. Â The type of place when I ordered a bourbon the bartender seemed enthused, even saying 'that's what I'm talking about.' Â So bring your drinking hat. Â Other times was a little hard to get the bartender's attention as they seemed to wander around.
Small plastic cups but not bad prices so it was all good. Â Some decent live music and some less decent live music.
Overall, a pretty fun place that I enjoyed going to on several visits.
Seafood sampler
Conch fritters are really just bland hush puppies until you add the green sauce
The fish nuggets are great, fresh and have a nice lite batter.
The smoked fish dip is the best, especially with the green sauce
The shrimp were okay, nothing special
4 stars for the green sauce, fish dip and Fish nuggets
As far as Saloons go, this is a solid 3.
Beer selection is decent, not good, not bad. Plenty of liquor and tropical drinks to choose from though, which is great. Â They have a separate eating area, bar and oyster bar.
This is the kind of place you would want to go on a regular day. Â Great place to get a bite, nothing fancy, just good food. Â Great place to have a bevvy and strike up some conversation with your neighbor. Â If I lived in Key West, this would probably be a local hang-out for me, at least during the day time. Â It gets quite crowded and popular at night. Â If that's your scene, then you should be here.
If Hog's Breath attempts to be the dive bar that everyone loves, even non-dive bar people, then I suppose it achieves its goal. But if Hog's Breath wants to look like the dive bar that everyone loves but actually provide good service and delicious food, then it fails.
I've been here many times during Key West visits, but this review is based on my most recent trip, involving frequent stops here. If you are just stopping by the bar and grabbing a drink, your service should be fine. The beer selection is not the best I have seen, but at least it's not just Miller and Bud Light.
I don't recommend dining here. After being seated by the hostess in the bar area, it took more than 15 minutes to see a server. If I'm waiting 15 minutes in the misty rain to order food, I at least need a drink, but alas, a drink I did not have.
It took a while to receive our draft beer order, and even longer to have the opportunity to order food. The Asian salad was decent-- if you're looking for something healthy on Duval St. this salad is a pretty good option. The establishment boasts the best conch fritters in Key West, as they all do, but sadly these were the worst I have had. I don't recall any conch in the massive amount of breading. (If you want great conch fritters, visit the conch stand in Mallory Square- real conch, very fried, but very little breading-- a real treat.)
Based on the poor service and limited draft selection, I would only recommend stopping in for a drink during a Duval Crawl. Any time I've done that I have no problem, since I'm fetching my own drinks and not sitting or eating. But that's it.
Beer, wings, live music and just off Duval street. What's not to like?
The Hogs Breath has a great covered outdoor seating area centered around a large bar and small stage. Stop by in the afternoon for a beverage and some pretty decent bar food.
Try the Sunset Ale, a very nice local brew. The hog legs are sort of a  Fred Flinstone sized rib.  Very tasty with a nice spicy bbq sauce. Â
The crowd is pretty diverse; bikers, college students, near homeless people and retirees. Everyone seems to get along just fine.
Service is friendly and efficient. Â Gotta love a server that calls senior citizens "dude"!
Kick back, grab a brew, watch the peopl and listen to the band.... It sure beats working!
We really enjoyed hanging out at Hog's Breath Saloon. Â It's a casual, laid back bar that opens up into the outside. Â They feature a solid schedule of live music - lots of rock, blues, etc.
We did not eat there, but they did have a raw bar that looked yummy. Â The drinks were typical well drinks - they were quite strong.
But the atmosphere is cool - lots of locals and tourists just enjoying the music. Â We saw the most fabulous band, the Shane Dwight Band. Â The lead artist, Shane Dwight, was an awesome guitarist and we really enjoyed the show.
Make it a must stop on your next trip to Key West!
I have been to this well known dive bar on a few occasions, mainly for drinking, but most recently for a quick lunch. I would come back, but would limit my order to only drinks, and choose to dine elsewhere. I am not saying the pulled pork sandwich I had was bad, it's just that throughout my meal I was hounded by adolescent chickens pecking at my feet and eating scraps off the floor.
Besides my thoughts of unsanitary chickens bounding through the dining area ( I mean, where do they crap?), it was also kind of disturbing to imagine that the scraps the chickens were eating off the floor were in fact chicken meat and that the chickens were cannibalizing themselves. A little to much to worry about when having an easy lunch..... That was a turn off for me.
The pulled pork sandwich was adequate as was the tangy BBQ sauce served with it. This is a fun place to drink outdoors and revel in the laid back Key West style, but for me, eating here again is doubtful.
This place is super famous, and I see people wearing the T-shirts all the time, so we decided to check it out. I wasn't that impressed.
It's OK, but just OK. The food is mediocre and the portions are small. It's better off just being a drinking establishment. The bar outside is fun, beachy, and very Key West. A little too touristy though for my tastes, and the crowd was a little too middle aged. (Think fanny packs and sunburns)
It's still a must for visitors, and I'm glad I finally made it here.
One of the more famous places in Key West.
Just like many of the establishments in this area, live music can always be heard coming out of the Hog's Breath. Â Now in my opinion there's nothing better than sitting outside and listening to live covers of jimmy buffet (sometimes good and sometimes not so good depending who's playing) while enjoying good drink with great friends. Â This is exactly what you'll find here. Â The food, well it's bar food (we had a few of the selections and nothing really stuck out) so I didn't expect it to be that great. Â Just stick to drinks and live music and you'll be just fine.
I was able to carry on a conversation without having to yell or speak directly into the ear of the person I was talking with, but at the same time I could still sit there and hear the music just fine if we weren't conversing. Â Now, it may have been where we were sitting but there was a great balance between the conversation and the music something of which I am rarely able to find.
The next really great thing about this place is that they have web cams everywhere. Â We lucked out and managed to meet two complete strangers who invited us to join them at this table where one of the web cams overlooked. Â The whole time we sat there people in the bar kept coming over to us asking if we would wave at their friends friends.
I don't know what it is, but there something about being able to enjoy a great drink in the great key west weather while waving to some poor sap (probably in some snow or rain covered state like Michigan, Minnesota, or up state new york) that just seems to make everything taste a little better.
I won't lie writing this made me look up the website and open the web cam link. Â I definitely wish I was there and not here (in NJ) as it has ironically began pouring rain outside...
I admit a major soft spot for the Hog's Breath. Â I've had some great times there, I've had some good (and underrated) food, I've seen some great and accessible entertainers, and I've staggered away more than a few times.
The Hog's Breath is one of the few places on Duval that locals will hang out...which speaks volumes since locals avoid Duval like the plague. Â There's always live entertainment, and it's almost always someone talented with a fair amount of original music in their repetoire. Â In fact, the Hog's Breath has created their own label, if you can call it that, to help out many of the acts that play there regularly. Â So regularly that one or more of them is there every time we come here (which is often). Â In fact, I think we're going on vacation next year with Clint Bullard, The Carter Brothers and Cooter & Red next year.
The raw bar (complete with webcam so people back home can watch you eat) has fresh mollusks. Â The fish dip (served anywhere: at the bar, in the restaurant area) is friggin' phenomenal. Â And I've always had great bar service.
The Gal and I have been here enough to get the "local's discount," even though we're not local, although that might have been accentuated when we stayed through Hurricane Dennis. Â No matter; it's that friendly and that laid-back. Â Don't show up with the Midwestern Uniform (baseball cap, t-shirt & sneakers) or with a purse if you're a woman, and you'll be amazed at how quickly you can strike up conversations with everyone around you and blend in.
Trust me: this is one place you'd rather blend in than stick out.
Typical Key West bar.
The food isn't great, but the drinks are. Make sure you sit inside during the summer. We were here on the most humid day of the summer and even the roosters that roam around the island were seeking shelter from the sun in this place. It was kind of fun until my chicken sandwich arrived. Then it was just weird to watch them walk around.
This place is a must for tourist. It's touristy without being annoying. Grab a cold beer and hang out. It's all there is to do in Key West.
