For a long time, this has been one of my favorite restaurants in Springfield. I like their cashew chicken. The atmosphere is pleasant. So is the staff, and certainly didn't deserve the bird I flipped them as I stalked across the parking lot tonight. I hope they didn't see, but I expect they did, and, folks, I'm sorry. BUT I came prepared to sit and eat my cashew chicken and crab rangoon, and when I came in at 8:35 you told me that there was take-out service only because you closed at 9. Say what? The only place on the web where I could find your hours had told me that you're open until 9:30 on Sundays. I suspect the staff just decided that they wanted to go home and there weren't many people (except those who were standing there yakking with the help) so they'd just close early. Even if you changed your hours, you shouldn't stop serving customers in the dining room unless you do the some of the following: turn off the sky-sign, turn off the big neon "OPEN" sign, put a sign up that says "Drive-Thru Service Only" and turn it on at whatever time the dining room closes, and lock the door...instead of drawing people in off of the road, drawing them in from the parking lot, and then telling them they can't eat! Â Another thing: if your hours are posted anyplace around your entrance, they must be posted verrry discreetly, because I always have to ask, when I go in after a certain hour, "Are you getting ready to close?" I have never been rebuffed until tonight. Unfortunately, tonight I was really hungry and really tired; I'm moving, my house is a mess, and I wanted a pleasant little break. I ended up going to the Hong Kong Inn, even though I don't like their food as well, because they are open until 10 (11 on weeknights) and allowed me to come in and eat. Folks, this is not a rant. I have always liked you and want to give you your due, and want to give you some feedback that will help your business in the long run. Â That's why the long review. You're worth it! Sadly, having disgraced myself as a result of your playing fast and loose with the schedule, I will be too ashamed to visit you again. That's why the two stars. I'm so sorry--but I'm just one customer. Think things through from the customers' point of view and maybe you won't lose any more.
Review Source:Was one of the few Chinese restaurants recommended to us in the Springfield area, but honestly feel like we made the wrong choice by even trying this one first. Definitely don't go here if you are expecting to get authentic tasting Chinese food, its more of an American spin off at best. Fried rice is just ok. I had the general tsos, though the chicken itself was good, the sauce was horrible. Gf had the chicken lo mein and said it was just ok, but we both agreed the crab was bland and unsatisfying. So basically if you're ok with an American knockoff give it a try if you feel the need, but if you want real Chinese food, look elsewhere.
Review Source:My wife and I have eaten at Mimi's Hong Kong Inn for many years now, and it's one of our favorites. The portions are plentiful, the staff is friendly, the restaurant is always clean and bright, and the general chicken is to die for.
My wife always gets vegetarian meals, and she loves all of them. I really can't think of anything on the downside to post, so I won't!
Wonderful meals!
After all the reviews about the cashew chicken, I thought this would be amazing. Well it didn't quite hit that level for me. I actually thought it was okay and was bland but with a little salt and pepper it was pretty good. The crab rangoon was good and their sweet and sour sauce was great. The prices, portions and service are what pushed me to give 4 and not 3 stars. We got the cashew chicken for two that came with two portions each of chicken and fried rice and 6 crab rangoons all for under $10.
Review Source:This is really an incredible place to eat for the money. Â It is not the best Chinese food in the city but it may be the best Chinese food in the city for the money. Â That is why it is ALWAYS busy! Â Where else can you find a complete, great-tasting meal for $3- $5? Â Cashew Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Egg Rolls, Fried Rice and Hong Sui Chicken ( with vegetables)- all is delicious! Â Once you start going here it will become part of your staple. Â I have been going to this place for over 20 years ( recently moved from Glenstone to Sunshine but it is still the same place!)
Review Source:5 stars for the big cashew! Â I grew up on Springfield and still get all warm and fuzzy for Springfield-style cashew chicken (at least, since I rediscovered it last year). Â Hit up the drive-thru at Hong King in and enjoyed in no time! Â FYI, the lunch special for two (cashew, rice, and crab rangoon) is easily enough for 3-4 folks with reasonably demure appetites.
Review Source:This review is only for their famed Cashew Chicken - white meat. Â We went on a tour with family and found theirs to be 2nd. Â The meat was not as moist, the skin seemed to lose its crisp and fall off after being in the gravy, but it was still pretty tasty. Â First was Canton Inn and third was Chinese Chef.
Review Source:Best cashew chicken ever. When I was a kid, we would make the trip all the way up to Springfield to go to this place when it was in a strip mall next to the Cat & Fiddle Club. The Cat & Fiddle is long gone, and Hong Kong Inn moved to a much larger location with a drive through and everything. Excellent. Cheap. No need to bother with any of the other places. HKI's cashew chicken is just crispy enough to give you that satisfying crunch while still being drenched in enough gravy to make it a Springfield legend. Yum.
Review Source:I live not far from there(N. Glenstone restaurant) and only find the food ok, yes the portions are nice and so is the price but the food just isn't as good as other places I've tried, and I don't like their crab rangoon at all and I love crab rangoon...also the drive thru people can be really rude
Review Source:Their portions are generous, their food is pretty good and they're prices are great. I would've given them four stars but the sunshine and glenstone location has left out part of our order on multiple occasions. I've never had a problem with the n. glenstone restaurant, though. Hong Kong Inn is my favorite place for cashew or sweet and sour chicken.
