Margi and i stopped here on a Saturday afternoon to look at the Orioles game and have a couple microbrews. i'm not sure what some of the other reviewers were looking for but i found it to be a little bit of a dive but that is meant as a compliment. no chain setup, a cozy little bar with some character. i wasnt there to seek out haute cuisine, i was there to watch the game, drink a couple of microbrews, and eat some pub grub. check check check on all three. we shared nachos with chili and i liked the cheese covering and hiding the nachos below. Margi got buffalo chicken wrap and had one word for it, delicious. i had the blackened chicken sandwich, which was just OK. the blackening seasoning was a little off, but i am nit picking. the OC fries, two thumbs up.
Review Source:I've read other reviews and come to he conclusion that those who didn't like hop heads, were looking for something other than a great selection of beers and knowledgable staff. I found it to be a refreshing change from the same overdone chains and trendy wannabes. A comfortable place, with a great selection of food as well. What's not to love? If you are looking for a trendy crowd, or some sort if hip decor, you should go somewhere else
Review Source:Groupon Purchase, fyi.
First thought as I gazed upon this place?
Is this a strip joint? Why are there no windows? If there are chicks dancing on poles or giving out lap dances, we're leaving.
Turns out, it's just a crappy, horribly designed 'restaurant/bar'.
The inside is just as bad. Poor layout, cheap furniture. Think tall round patio tables, rickety chairs, all squeezed together with pillars obstructing your view of the TVs in the bar area. I will say, there's one giant TV against the back wall. That was nice, although they probably should have invested the multiple grands into decor and better everything else.
Start of rant ***For those of you that think decor doesn't matter: I don't know how many people pass this place and say "Wow, that place looks great! Let's go there!" Just because you're located off of Route 40 doesn't mean you have to look like a truck stop. You should be attracting customers with your initial appearance. And then keep them coming back due to the quality of the service/food- no matter how casual it is)*** End of rant.
The service was slow. 2 people working the bar/serving. Took about 25 minutes for someone to ask for our drinks. Another 15 to get them. 30+ to finally order our food. 30+ to get our check. Needless to say, we missed our movie.
Throughout that waiting, we were overlooked, ignored, impatiently scolded ("WAIT"), and dismissed. I was infuriated. I got out of my seat, tracked the rude guy down, told him I wanted an order of drinks and that we've been waiting too long for someone to ask. It was quite clear that I was pissed off and didn't like being dissed, especially when I'm paying for it. The guy was in tune to my fury, but never apologized. Only acted nonchalant and carried on with his lack of tact.
Hell hath no fury like an angered redheaded woman. That's what I always say...
Anyways, this place is a POS.
Bad service, sub par food, lacking decor, and an overall trashy and uninviting atmosphere.
Won't be back here again!
An uncomfortable bar, with terrible service and adequate food.
On a Friday night with little to do me and my girlfriend took advantage of a Groupon that had been sitting unused for months. We arrived at Hop Heads located in an unattractive cheap building located on Pulaski Highway.
The interior was uncomfortable and small packed with cheap cafe tables on a tile floor. We sat at a table and awkwardly waited for a server to approach. Much of our entire meal was spent waiting for servers.
After we ordered our food arrived an hour later incorrectly prepared. We ordered the cheese steak and burger. Burger was standard but tasty, the cheese steak was very good but I have had better.
The worst part of the evening was trying to flag down a waiter for a second beer, when we finally got one staff person's attention he angrily scowled "WAIT." Â He than coninued ignoring us until we tracked him down to request another drink.
I will not be returning.
I went the Groupon route a couple of times now. A little divey looking on the outside. Not too scary though sandwiched between and old Motel/Appartments and a diner on the corner. Once inside though the place is a clean, open neighborhood bar. The staff has always been friendly. The beer selection couldn't be better. The bartenders are very knowledgable and are able to steer me in the right direction, whether I am looking for a hoppy beer or a malty one, they have always had some great ideas. Had burgers and fries. The burer was moist, cooked to order and the portion was good. The fries were hot and excellent. I don't get out as much as I'd like but when I'm in the area and  want a good burger this will be my spot.
Review Source:Totally agree with last three reviewers on numerous points-- looks pretty dive-ish from the outside, has surprisingly good food, and a very strong beer selection (both draughts and bottles) for a suburban joint, especially on the generally beer-poor east side! Â We alsp went the Groupon route since we were meeting my nephew for lunch and it's hard to pass on two sandwiches and four quality beers for an amazing fifteen bucks!!! Â All three of us enjoyed our food, all of which came with good quality fries and a nice, crisp, sour pickle: a cheeseburger for the wifey, buffalo chicken wrap for the nephew, and half a cheesesteak for me. Â The small staff (it's a pretty small place) is laid back yet helpful and friendly, and the place appears to have a good number of special events and happenings on a regular basis. Â They're having a firkin night during Baltimore Beer Week, and I hope to make it there for that. Â Hopheads is a veritable oasis of good beer in a general desert that is eastern Baltimore County (hey, I grew up and have lived the vast majority of my 47 years on Earth between Essex, Middle River, and Perry Hall-White Marsh), and I hope it gets enough business in the long-term to keep going in an area where a lot of businesses don't last too long. Â And yes, they do have the watered-down domestic stuff for those of you who don't do craft/micro brews!!!
Review Source:I bought the Groupon after my friends went here with their Groupon and told me how much they enjoyed it. Â I was still hesitant based on the location/outside. Â We took some friends with us and we all enjoyed it. Â Great beer selection. Â Very helpful/nice staff. Â We had burgers and fries. All were good. Â Lots of TV's. Â A nice place for a casual night out or to watch the game.
Review Source:Bought a Groupon to Hopheads Alehouse. Â Little nervous at first looking at the outside....boy were we shocked! Â Hopheads has a totally awesome selection of microbrews, fully stocked bar and seriously friendly staff working for them! Â The two young gals that took care of us checked on us periodically without making us feel like we had to be ordering in order to occupy the space we were using. Â We ordered food and were very pleased. Â Check was very reasonable...definitely will return! Â Well worth the trip to enjoy the very cold beers that were on hand! :)
