GREAT record store with an excellent selection of VINYL. I saw a TV ad (imagine that!) for another local record store which reminded me to hunt down some vinyl whilst in Greenville. My first thought was of course "do not go to the one you saw on TV, Dexter." So I walked down this Greenville ave till I saw some likely knucklehead with a beard and said "yo dude where's a good vinyl record store in town" and the dude says "yeah go straight to 2 West Stone Ave bro" and there i was and lo and behold a REAL DEAL record store with a REAL DEAL dude named Gene at the helm, so I walked out with like a benjamin worth of cool records to take back to L.A.. I get in the car having scored this kickazz Dennis Coffey record and I put on my best internet radio station outta Paris, France called Soulful Bits, rokin dat thru my Android shizzle and unbelievably the SAME RARE DENNIS COFFEY RECORD is playin' on the station at that very frikin moment... Now that MEANS SOMETHING. Yeah thas it... End of story. Don't front.

    Hey whatsup?

Horizon is da kewlest! Both my bigs can get all their music here, and pretendl like they are still young and hip. Biggish Big can get his opera and Judy Garland, and Dr. Meesie can dig through the trash and treasures bin for early 90s jammy jamz. Plus they can get hillbilly music for my sister.

    Thank you I know.

What a great funky old-school records store!

We always like to visit when we're in town because they not only sell vinyl, DVDs and CDs, but they buy as well. Plus, it's easy to wander in from the attached restaurant (The Bohemian deserves its own review).

The selection is small, but pretty varied and better organized than most old-school records stores. It's like they actually want you to find what you're looking for here! African rhythm, Happy Hardcore, good old Rock'n'Roll - they got it.

They even have a 'classical' room with sound-proof windows so opera fans / brahms fans can have their own space to chill. Too bad most of the recordings in the classical room are older or more 'standard'. They really should think about beefing up that area with some new releases if they're going to devote a whole room to it.

gene is and has been the man in greenville!  the store's got lots of new and used cds/lps/dvds.  i usually shop the indie rock stuff, but lots of jazz, electronic, blues and classical.  the most extensive acoustic american (old time/folk/bluegrass...) selection that i'm aware of.  definitely a greenville institution and worthy of a drop in.

Truly one of the last of its kind.  A classic record store.  The employees are all knowledgeable and they have a lot of records that are important in our Appalachian music, as well as funk/soul/rock/jazz, and the only classical selection in town.

They also put on a lot of live shows, so make sure you check out their site when coming in.  Yeah!

I worked here when they first moved their location to Stone Ave. I was totally awkward, but felt like the coolest kid in high school with a job at "the record shop." It was here that I discovered musicians from Frank Zappa to Christian McBride and Yesterday's New Quintet.

They also have great relations with artists coming through Greenville, so they have special events with musicians in-store.

For me, it's the last stand of true record shops in Greenville. The staff are hand-picked for their vast knowledge of music. It's one of those things that is undervalued now with our kind of "grab and go" lifestyle when it comes to the arts.

I feel, as well, that the experience here is a little bit less "music snob-ish" than that at Earshot. It's a cozy, friendly atmosphere - a true family business. It's not just a store - but more of an active outpost for the music community.

Hint: troll around a bit for used CDs. Also, ask one of the people in-store about suggestions. Perfect for those who are trying to discover music that is new to them, or trying to find a unique gift for someone.

Another fine independently owned record/cd store in Greenville.  Smaller and less variety compared to EARSHOT but HORIZON has other features that make it a great store - great collection of jazz, bluegrass, "real" country, jam bands and classical music.  They also have a decent collection of used CDs and new and used vinyl as well.  Very easy going staff and well informed.
