Great pizza, great prices, great location. The dining room is a little drab, but it works. When I'm alone I will generally order a slice or a whole pizza when I'm with a couple of friends. Never got too exotic with topings, but their basics are very good, one of the only places in West Lafayette I'll eat Pizza. Breadsticks are a bit salty for my taste.
Review Source:So, Hot Box called us when they saw on their records that our pizza was quite late. Â Apparently they've got the veggies under control, but we learned that the tootsie rolls are a signature of theirs. Â Really? Â Still odd. Â Pizza was better the second time, and delivered much more quickly. Â Other thought - what's with the slogans on the side of the box? Â My 15 year old thought "Taste what's in my box" was hysterical but couldn't find words to explain to the 9 year old why it was funny. Â About 20 years ago I might have thought that was hysterical, too, but now, it's just one more thing I have to "deal with."
Review Source:Only receives a 5 because this is the only pizza I will eat in the Lafayette area. Â
First off, pizza recommendation- Alfredo sauce (though it also works with normal marinara sauce), pinnacle and spicy pepperoni.
Their dough is surprisingly good, so if you don't like their pizza try out their breadsticks.
I'm not crazy about the atmosphere but what really gets me for a place that attempts to look hip and trendy is their lack of recycling. When you order a drink you get a fairly large hard plastic cup. If you don't want to take it home it just goes in the trash. When I brought this up I was told that there at many uses for the cup in my home like keeping paintbrushes or pens etc... I'm sorry I'm not interested in a collection of hotbox cups and they should really start recycling.
Way better than Mad Mushroom in my opinion... So far this is one of the best pizzas I have tried not only in the area but in my life.... The crust is great as well as the sauces and toppings.... Be aware that once that you start eating the pizza or cheese sticks you might not be able to stop :-) I ordered the cheese sticks and the Big Al's Fredo and both of them were very tasty and fresh.
Review Source:Atmosphere is fun, but that's about all it has going for it.
Pizza is terrible and COMPLETELY overpriced. The crust is just plain awful. I would rather pay less money for better pizza from a chain pizza place, or pay the same amount of money for much better pizza at the plethora of pizza places in the area (Bruno's, Toppers, Puccini's, BoilerMarket, etc)
A little overpriced for pizza on a college campus, but the atmosphere and specialty pizza almost makes up for it. When walking into HotBox, there is an alternative feel to the building and the workers, which makes going in comfortable and accepting. As I said before, the pizza is a little pricey depending on what you get, but there specialty pizzas are pizzas that you can't find anywhere else on campus. Their chicken alfredo pizza and their pesto artichoke pizza are wonderful. If you are going for a simple pepperoni, sausage, or cheese, there are better (and cheaper) places on campus to get them. However, their breadsticks are amazing. I am an avid fan on their breadsticks and I find myself getting them quite often. Some might think they are too salty, but I think they're perfect. HotBox cheese sauce is probably the best dipping cheese I've ever had. If I were able to buy cans of it, I definitely would. And I'll stick by that no matter who thinks differently.
Review Source:Walked into this place and didn't hear any punk music playing at all, it was all alterinative music. No biggie would have been nice to hear some Authority Zero, Dead Milkmen, the Clash or something.
The girl at the cash registior was very helpful and made sure I got the best deal possible We got a large cheese bread and a large pepperoni and sausage pizza along with some pizza sause and cheese sauce the cheese sauce was a jalp. cheese sauce that was good, the cheese bread was decent but the pizza was amazing! The crust was so good! I hardly ever eat the crust of my pizza because most of it taste like cardboard, but this crust was on a level by it's self (the old school crust) the pep was good and the sausage was extremley good, I could see myself getting addictied to this place, I think I'm already hooked, great little pizza parlor.
Everyone can make pizza.... so high quality, fresh ingredients and exotic ingredients usually make a place stand out. It doesn't seem like this place can beat your average Domino's or Papa John's. It's not cheap either.
Don't get me wrong, it's not bad. But I can't say it's much better than your national chain.
This is a great place to eat a pizza. Â It has an punk feel, from the tatooed and friendly staff to the background music. Â
The menu is pretty creative- several types of sauce instead of just plain tomato, and you can get a whole wheat crust which tastes great and makes you feel healthier in some small way. Â The Big 10 Bargain is a pretty good deal for two people, especially over the summer.
Oh, and the breadsticks! Â Sometimes I just stop in to buy a sack of breadsticks- they are very garlic-y, very salty, and very delicious. Â The cheese and marinara sauces are both great for them.
my overall favorite pizza place!! Â this place was great because the staff was friendly and fun and the food was great. Â i could only find one problem with this place which is that it does not open until 11 am (it does however stay open really late though). Â overall, an awesome pizza place which i would recommend for groups of college students, high schoolers and young adults.
Review Source:Hot Box pizza is great. Besides the array of choices for pizzas these friendly folks put up with a lot of crazy people on bicycles, me being one of them. Critical Mass- a monthly ride involving usually 50+ people on bicycles, meets here. Cars will honk as they see you on the curb, pizza in one hand, straddling your bicycle.
The pineapple pizza is my absolute favorite, and they even deliver quickly to all of the dorms on campus. Always a plus - especially when it's snowing and you're craving pizza.
Prices are good too :)
After a LONG drive to Purdue we were looking for a place that was open for lunch at 3PM. Â After being turned away from 3 restaurants, we spotted Hot Box. Â We were starving and short on time, so we thought- why not? Â
Wow! Â This pizza was thin and crispy (although you can also get the thicker hand tossed) with tasty sauce and just the right amount of cheese. Â The veggie toppings were fresh and they used sweet Spanish onions- nice touch.
If you find yourself in the area- do yourself a favor and stop in and try a pizza!
