We stopped in for a Sunday brunch, our first visit. Â The Build-Your-Own-Bloody-Mary got our attention. Â How nice to have a Bloody prepared just the way you want- delicious! Â The buffet had two or three sushi choices, salmon, and a made to order omelet. Â Our server Christian was courteous, prompt, and efficient. Â Can't wait to visit again!
Review Source:My son and I went to In The Raw Sushi for dinner this evening....we chose to sit at the sushi bar. We were promptly greeted by the server......then after that, promptness went out the window. He took forever to come around for anything. The miso soup was lukewarm, the rice was ok. We shared a combo sushi plate.....everything was ok. It took a while to get the bill and I needed change. I was owed $19 and some change and he brought me $11 even. Maybe he thought he would be nice and take his tip out for me. Not cool. I tipped the chef working in front of us...he was friendly.
Review Source:This place was always a favorite during high school. Since I was home for the holidays, I figured I better stop buy with some friends. I was so disappointed. It was the worst service I've ever had. We waited for over 45 minutes in that miniscule waiting area they have which means all of us are crowded over the tables by the door. If I were those customers, I'd be mad. The hostess was completely overwhelmed. There were multiple tables open, but no one was being seated so I asked her. They call you if you're on the waiting list. CALL YOU. If you aren't there in that little area, then your table should be given up. Needless to say, we finally got seated then the hostess called us to say our table was ready after we had already ordered drinks. ITR needs to get it together.
Review Source:Confused as to why people call this a Hipster joint. Trendy? yes. Hipster? not a chance. This place is douche city. Soul patches and mini-skirts abound. But that's Brookside for you. Having said that, the service was fast even though they were getting slammed. I was immediately seated and served at 7:30 on a Saturday. The sushi was just as good if not better than Yoko Zuna, where I usually go.
Review Source:Came here for a project and the client recommended this as the best in the city. After eating, I have never been more appreciative of NYC! The ambiance was nice, there was outdoor seating and there was someone playing music on the guitar. Had the tako salad, and some rolls. i.e. Id Roll, Oh my Goodness roll, some veggie rolls, spicy scallop, new york roll etc.
It may be unfair that I am comparing this establishment to what I am spoiled with in NYC but for the price, this was probably one of the more expensive place I've eaten here at Tulsa but I must say I've had better at St Marks 50% off sushi. The rice was soft, the fish wasn't all that fresh and all I tasted was spicy sauce. The focus seemed to be on spicy and not necessary on the freshness of the fish.
I left yearning for my hometown.
Always top of the list of my foodfest in t-town!
Must have is the Tako salad...yummy octopus, calamari, cucumber, bamboo shoots, in a spicy ponzu sauce. I cannot find this concoction of greatness anywhere else in the country...I always try what I think will be this salad at all my sushi stops but have found like they have here unless you buy it frozen at bodeans. The candy, bok, And id are among a few of my fav rolls. The filet with wasabi mash potato's is outstanding...oh the irony.
Seriously better sushi here than in south florida...floridians never believe me. When you got nothing else better to do great food creations is the result in cities like this!
Sushi in Tulsa? Â I admit, I was hesitant, especially when I saw that most of the staff were not Japanese. Â The nigiri was fresh and tasty. Â The edamame was good. Â The beer selection and saki was good. Â The specialty rolls were plentiful and good. Â The service was great. Â The atmosphere was a bit hip. Â I would definitely come back.
Review Source:My flirtini was tasty, but so not worth nine bucks. However, the bar atmosphere was pretty fun while we waited to be seated. We sat down next to two middle aged gents who were pretty entertaining. One guy saw the other guy's brother walking toward the restaurant through the window and told us not to scoot over for him, no matter what he said. Apparently all three of these guys are regulars because the bar maid poured the poor guy a vodka on the rocks with a side of. Cranberry juice in a sake glass while he was in the bathroom. The guy awkwardly stood between us and his "friends" for a while before we were called to our table. The whole scenario was quite amusing.
The fish lacked flavor and the rainbow roll looked tired. The presentation of the rolls was sub-par.
The crab cakes were tasty, but how can you go wrong with a breaded and fried crab patty accompanied by a four sweet and salty sauces?
I really would like to give this place 2 or 3 stars since i really like their ITR salad. Â The thing is if you aren't in the right demographic the waitstaff will overlook you. Â Three experiences at this particular ITR ...all bad and for mediocre sushi. Â If you must try In The Raw go to the other one across town where the staff is decent. Â Otherwise go a few blocks down and get some Fuji. Â And just remember.. You are eating sushi in Tulsa so don't expect a whole lot no matter where you go.
Review Source:When you've spent practically your entire life in Houston and have been spoiled by all the good food to be had there, In the Raw just doesn't cut it. Everyone kept telling me this place is the best when I first moved here, so finally I decided to give it a try. In short, I really feel like this is one of those places you go to see and be seen, and not where you go to get great food. See, I can deal with mediocre sushi when it's cheap, but it's so not worth it here. In fact, I only gave it two stars because our waiter was really friendly and attentive.
Review Source:Best sushi of your life? Â Probably not. Â Best sushi and ambiance you can get for a really reasonable (most rolls under $10) price? Â Definitely.
The atmosphere is hip, trendy, and modern with fun, friendly staff. Â Service was quick and helpful on the late Saturday night I went with my girlfriends. Â Really reasonable cocktails as well, so if you're faced with a wait, don't fret - just head to the bar and settle in. Â Granted, the bar area is quite small, so be ready to rub elbows with your neighbors.
The blue crab dip app was pretty tasty and comes with slices of pita bread for dipping. Â Of the 8 rolls at our table, none of them were necessarily Earth-shattering, but all were good enough for all of us to clean our plates. Â Several of our roll selections included the Some Like it Hot, Dunwell, New York, Candy, and the Restless Ribbon. Â All great choices. Â Some Like it Hot isn't quite as flaming hot as we were expecting, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Definitely far better than I was expecting from a Tulsa sushi joint (that sounds bad, but who really expects great sushi in the midst of oil derricks and tumbleweed - seriously).
The Sushi is good and the rolls are very good. Â In The Raw is popular for good reason. Â My issue is with the service. Â I believe In the Raw is suffering from overpopularity. Â On two occasions recently we have arrived before 6PM and have seen numerous empty tables. Â The tables are reserved and it is unlikely you will be seated soon. Â Arrive before 6PM on Thurs-Sat. Â Edamame, Green Mussels, and the expensive rolls are good. Â Some of the lower priced rolls are pretty pedestrian.
Review Source:I love this place! And I'm from Cali and had some damn great suchi before. The service is hit or miss but usually quite good. The rolls and the blackened tuna are awesome! I always great some tasty Miso Soup and hot Saki. Go to either the Brookside location if you want a social scene or the one On the Hill if you want to sit outside and chat while looking at a beautiful view of Tulsa.
Review Source:I liked the décor. The waitstaff and chefs were very nice and fast.  That said...that I think is the only thing keeping this from getting a 1.
The fish was not tasty. It wasn't that it had gone bad, it just hadn't survived the freezing and unfreezing process well and had no flavor.
The roll I ordered was seriously over priced for the quality. The salad came unmixed, very odd for a Kani salad. The shrimp in it was...mediocre.
All in all I felt I spent a bunch of money on pretty mediocre food. Not fun.
Also odd, my sushi chef was a young American woman who looked like she was in her 20s maybe. Â Not that Americans can't make sushi, just odd.

Note of bias:
I am from the East coast. Â I am used to much fresher fish and a different style.
That said, I had sushi in Colorado, and it was fantastic.
I give this place 2 stars only because I have lived and visited places that have better sushi. Based off the reviews the people of Tulsa simply have nothing to compare it to other than what is already in the town.
It seems as though this is in a trendy area of Tulsa. I wish that we would have been able to to enjoy their outdoor patio but our hostess found it acceptable to sit 5 people at a table meant for 4. If you've ever ordered sushi rolls and enjoy the experience of sharing plates you can understand how this would have been uncomfortable. Wait...if you have ever e restaraunt and had a plate in front of you then you can imagine how uncomfortable this must have been.
When I first glanced at the menu I was quite disappointed in the variety of ingredients in the different rolls. It seemed as though they all had the same: cream cheese, cucumber and avacado. These are good ingredients but not in every roll.
I was quite disappointed in the fact that we ordered 6 different kind of sushi rolls and they were all rolled in the exacty same size as if off a machine in the back room. I expect this from our local HEB grocery store but not a SUSHI restaurant. There seems to be ZERO creativity.
The smoked salmon sushi was simply edible. It appeared as though it was cut using a dull blade from the civil war. I didn't dare order the sashimi simply based off the appearance of the fish in the display and that it was severly over priced.
We had several waitresses that tended to us which made it difficult to keep our drinks full.
I didn't have the intention of discounting this place so badly but seriously...I can get the same quality at the grocery store. I expected more from an establishment in which their main entree is sushi. It seems as though an investor bought into an idea and a frat boy is trying to gain an edge in a market in which he has only dined but not learned. Raw fish is one thing and having the creativity to pair it with other ingredients is the other. This place has neither.
I really hope the people of Tulsa realize that there is better sushi out there and if I had the means, I would prove to them that there is.
love it, but it is kind of loud on the weekends and a little boujie
food: both eclectric and traditional rolls. Â fish tacos are also delicious
vibe: Â cool crowd, young and old, dress to impress
decor: Â modern but still very cozy, beautiful paintings all over the place
would go back on a chill night!
I hadn't been to In the Raw before, but since it was my fiance's birthday we decided to give it a shot. Actually we had tried to come here once before but there was a sign saying they were closed for a private party, and there were only like 4 people inside. Anyways, so we had called earlier to try and make a reservation and whoever answered said, "Don't worry about it, you'll be fine." We get their at 6:30 and the hostess informs us that there will be about a 15 minute wait. We kindly let her know what the gentleman on the phone tells us, and she says "We only take reservations for 6." There were four of us in our party. Whatever.
While we are waiting, we see a table for four in the bar open up. We let the hostess know that we wouldn't mind sitting at that table. So she and the other hostess talk it over. Then one of them says, "Well, we can seat you at that table, but we have a reservation for 8:00." It was 6:40.
Here's where I got irked.... First they tell us they only take reservations for parties of 6, this table is definitely for no more than 4 people. Secondly, it's 6:40! Surely you are not planning on leaving this table without customers for an hour and twenty minutes until this important guest arrives for this particular table!
Anyways, they let us sit at this table after we had to assure them that we would be out by 8PM. The server that we had was friendly and attentive. The sushi was pretty good for Tulsa, but just average when you are comparing it to more seaside states. Â I enjoyed the salmon sashimi.
Bottom line: I may give it a second chance, but not anytime soon.
Who wanted sushi? Â I did. Â What's up now? Â But wait, I've never been to Tulsa? Â Holy craptastic batman! Â Good thing a friend recommended In the Raw to me.
While the whole get-up is designed to be a scene, so what? Â Sushi (in the States) has been a steadily growing trend and since people seem to want to look cool eating it, restaurant owners have been happy to cater to this (and subsequently charge accordingly). Â All that said the dining area was comfortable with a cozy bar, adequate seating, and a surprisingly quaint patio. Â Neat.
The food was not the best sushi ever but there were some good options. Â The nirvana roll was good as was the sashimi (albacore and mackerel), all of which I recommend. Â It was perturbing that they were out of the sea urchin though. Â The volcano roll was not top quality as in my opinion the scallops were overcooked and the 'sauce' was like a thick mayonnaise.
All in all, I would give four stars if it weren't for the lackadaisical service. Â However, if/when my journeys lead me through Tulsa again, I will give In the Raw another shot... or just be sure to take more than one shot...
So, I finally was dragged here by my hipster friend because Wasabi is closed for renovations, and Fuji closes an hour earlier than ITR. Â It was definitely an experience.
First of all, this place is off-the-charts trendy, and filled with all kinds of frightening people. Â There were more orange tans, minidresses, soul patches, and douche hair styles than I could count. Â In short, I felt like I was across the street at Jewel, which is not a pleasant feeling.
The wait was long, so we ordered vodka martinis, and paid $17 for two. Â Wow, ITR, thank you for giving me the first reason to raise an eyebrow. Â
The food was also...not impressive. Â I am a sushi minimalist, and do not want my sushi to be as calorie-laden as a burger and fries, so I stick to tuna, yellowtail, and salmon maki, usually with some mixed roll that is the house specialty or something. Â This time, due to $17 martinis, we went for the much cheaper california roll. Â It was probably the best of the four. Â In the others, all the fish were tasteless, with the yellowtail being the least mediocre and the salmon being the most.
My hipster friend who dragged us here had dynamite shrimp, which is actually a really good appetizer, but is not sushi. Â This is the only thing I was impressed by, food-wise.
Lastly, our waiter was great. Â He was super attentive, friendly, and never forgot any of our requests. Â This was the other good thing about ITR.
Overall though, we blew tons of cash on mediocre sushi, vodka and water, and some fairly bland seaweed salad.
It's unlikely that we'll return here unless every other sushi place in Tulsa tanks.
Clean. Creative. Flavorful. Eclectic. ITR has everything I look for in a sushi bar. While this local sushi joint doesn't give me the same level of presentation and atmosphere as Nobu or Morimoto, I always get fine service and very fresh sushi. The chefs are quite creative and they offer numerous original combinations. The "Some Like It Hot" roll is a favorite of mine. Certainly my favorite sushi bar in Oklahoma.
Review Source:The reviews here have captured it pretty well. Â Good sushi but pricey. Â Great ITR salad to split with someone as an appetizer. Â Scene-y place to either seek out or feel superior to Tulsa's "beautiful and trendy" who come there. Â What I can't believe is that no one has mentioned the 6151 roll yet!
This roll to me is the epitome and peak of Tulsa-style sushi. Â Intimidatingly listed as "market price", it has 800 ingredients in it, served warm, with a piece of cooked lobster meat on top of each piece of the roll, doused in a creamy chili sauce to the point where it is unrecognizable as sushi in any other city. Â Yet, what else could you call it but sushi? Â In practice this is about $25 per order. Â Get one and split it with 2 or 4 people. Â It is absolutely delicious and everyone should get it once--or every time they are on the expense account.
Yeah, yeah. Everyone loves ITR. You aren't cool unless you love ITR. Here's the thing- the sushi is fantastic. Like best-in-town good. AND (as if you need more than good food to go out and eat) the patrons are the most hilarious to watch. If you love sitting back and voyeur-ing there is no better place in town. There is always a parade of 20-30 somethings, all gussied up for their big night on Brookside. A lot of sequins, on both girls and guys, a lot of Affliction (see: muscled up dudes boasting a massive amount of gel and pomade) and a lot of flirting. It's freaking awesome.
Review Source:The sushi was definitely not fresh, the tuna and yellow tail sashimi was kind of dry. This place was surprisingly busy. Â I believe people come here because of the scene. It has "hipster" type atmosphere. The chefs are hot looking women, I would definitely come here for them. Â I don't recommend coming here for the sushi though. Â Im sure there are much better places to eat "good" sushi in Tulsa.
Review Source:Used to be my favorite sushi restaurant in Tulsa. Â But I agree with Christine M. that the service has gotten slower and snottier. Â And yes, this is Tulsa sushi. Â That said, there are some really good rolls especially if you know to order off menu. Â The tuna tataki salad is delicious and if you are not in a sushi mood then the fish tacos are pretty darn yummy but nothing compared to NCT in San Fran--then again, this ain't San Fran!
Review Source:I mean, I do think that I should clarify - this is Tulsa sushi. Â Not real sushi - Tulsa sushi. Â What does that mean? Â Crab cake, fried everything/anything, slathered cream cheese/mayo sauce, etc in most of the rolls. Â And don't get me wrong... it's tasty. Â As long as you expect it to be non-traditional Tulsa sushi. Â
I think it's gone downhill. Â It's always loud, people are rude and service is slow. Â Frankly, I think it's Tsunami downtown is much better.
In town on business, someone else was buying - what could be better? Â My photos of the ID roll I ordered are VERY YELLOW due to the yellow curtains in the window of the corner where we were sitting.
The dinner napkins were purple, but looked brown in the yellow light.
I thought the waitress was exceptionally helpful, and very pleasant. Â I found all the sushi to be very good, but I am still partial to Amura's back in Orlando.
This was a nice place, and business was beginning to pick up around 8pm. Â Also a plus - it's right across the street from Shades of Brown Coffee & Art!
Since moving To CA, I have had dreams about In the Raw. Â I've yet to find a sushi place here that has the variety and TASTE of this place. Â I prefer Tiger Eye and 6121. Â The 6121 is not on the menu, but it is INCREDIBLE! Â
The atmosphere is a little Californian...which is another thing I like. Â
The parking is terrible, but you can't have everything, right?
I also like their edamame and their chocolate dessert (I forget the name, but is some kind of choco cake....)
Wish we had something like this in CA...
When I lived here, I would do anything to get me some Tulsa sushi...at In the Raw. Â But now that I live in California, this place is just okay.
There are cheap sushi places in LA that are better than In the Raw. Â So I give it three stars for being one of the best in Tulsa.
Menu recommendations: Â Id Roll: yumminess with crabcake in the middle, topped I think with seared Tuna. Â The Dunwell roll is nice, and candy roll is pretty good. Â I do love the Ginger Salad. Â I think it is call the ITR salad. Â I wish I rememebered, I did work here once. Â
:)
One of my top 5 restaurants in the world!!! Â This was the first place that i ever had sushi so it is very dear to my heart... Â It is right along brookside in the "heart" of the that part of town... the atmosphere is trendy and defiantly not something you would normally find in Tulsa... Â Most times there is a wait but it is worth it...
Any sushi place can cut a piece of tuna and call it sushi... the good places are able to combine random flavors to make rolls that are to die for... ITR does a wonderful job at this... On the menu you will find a lot of rolls that you have not had before... one of my favorites is the ID roll... this had their signature fried crab cake in the middle with peppered tuna on the top amongst other things... beyond the menu there are still other rolls that you have to ask your server about... the best and most unique roll is called the chimichanga roll... they hate making it and very few people still know how to make it... but if you can talk them into it I recommend it...
In closing... ITR is a place to see and be seen.... the food is excellent and they have some great drinks... the staff is very friendly and family like... I am craving it right now...
