Only got to have a couple beers but the staff seemed friendly enough. The greater thing was the Saturday night entertainment. It was a kid from nyc sort of playing a guitar and doing interactive crowd comedy. He was entertaining but hated the red sox (not his fault he is from ny and wants to have jeters babies). Prices were not too bad, $4 $5 beers. Attractive girls with jello shots walking around.
Review Source:Biggest surprise by far...the great craft beer selection! Â Key West tends to be a tropical drink or cheap beer sort of focus so it was cool to walk into a bar that had a wall full of legit craft beer choices (as opposed to the Sam Adams and Yuengling craft beer claims of other places). Â That being said the beers are a little pricier than some of your other drink options along Duval so try to find some BOGO drink coupons like we did so the cost evens out.
We visited at an off time of day before the bars were really filling up and bar is actually pretty big but smoking is allowed and theres not a lot of air flow to the outside world so i imagine it could get pretty stuffy if we were there later at night.
The live music was really enjoyable as far as thing singing goes but the guy playing was a little bit raunchy and dirty once he started talking so that was a bit of a deterrant.
Overall Irish Kevin's earned just a 3 star from me because of the smoking and the unnecessarily crude performer but I honestly waivered between a 3 and 4 because of the great craft beer selection. Â I'd visit again but its not my favorite.
We stopped in here with a group of friends, and right off the bat I knew it wasn't my kind of place. The live music was ridiculously loud, the crowd was even louder and they stopped selling bar food after something like 8pm.
We didn't stay too long, as the others soon felt the same way I did. If you like to touch elbows with the random stranger next to you while drinking a beer and listening to live music then maybe you'll appreciate this place more than I did, but if you want a bit of munchies while having a good time enjoying the company of friends then go elsewhere.
Very limited food selection, but people go there to drink, not eat. Â I, personally, found the entertainment in poor taste and not funny, but the inebriated clientele seemed to be enjoying it. Â The concierge at our hotel recommended it, but we didn't stay long. Â The band and food at Sloppy Joe's were much better. Â You CAN be funny without bullying people!
Review Source:This was by far my favorite place in the Keys!
Rowdy, loud, fun, and was quite the show with the one man band (JMH) who was insulting everyone in sight. It was great, we stayed here the longest out of all 10 places we stopped in.
I will return, bartender was quick on the draw and heavy handed!!!
These 4 starts are all for NY Pauly. He was such a fun performer and had us singing the entire time!
Drinks are expensive, Â $7 for an Angry Orchard apple cider (but on draft). They had self serve popcorn, freshly made (yum).
We will most likely be back on our trip, but to experience the singers, not really to get drunk ;)
This is my favorite night time bar in Key West....by far. Â
Do NOT go here if you are easily embarrassed, thin skinned or a jerk. Â This is a place for people who want to have a great time & who understand that it's JUST A JOKE & entertainment when the guy on stage calls you mean names or teases you about how you look. Â It's funny...you will laugh when he does it to someone else...so lighten up.
The drinks are strong & the service is pretty quick. Â Yes....it's crowded...because they do a great job. Â If you dont want a crowd....then go to some crappy bar somewhere else.
The entertainment is very good.....witty, sarcastic & mean spirited. Â All go well with a fun crowd where the alcohol is flowing freely.
It's always a good mix of people there...your sides will hurt from laughing & I guarantee you will see and/or hear something there for the 1st time in your life.
Dont be afraid...go w/ a great attitude & a plan for a ride home...and you will have an awesome time
I had some "concierge dollars" to use here because in my old job I used to hand out Irish Kevin's cards to guests of ours. We aren't big loud bar drinkers very often so thought we could get a couple of sandwiches for lunch (to go). It was a nightmare. The waitress was rude to my boyfriend and I (separately) and really made the process more complicated and irritating than it needed to be. Tried to send us next door to get our food since apparently they make the food there anyway (at the Lazy Gecko); I understand what she was doing, but it came off like she didn't want to go to the trouble of helping us. Won't be going back there. We realized it's a bar; not known for it's dining, but if the service was this bad, I'm sorry I ever sent our guests there.
Review Source:I dig this place. Â We went in on a Saturday Night. Â This is an early crowd, as it seems to clear out by about 1 for the more action oriented places. Â This night in particular was a guitarist and drummer playing 80's-90's music. Â They were fun, just not get you raging kind of fun. Â The bar service was quick enough, as it ought to be for $9 for a low call (Smirnoff). Â Cocktail waitress was also friendly and attentive.
Review Source:Came here cause I wanted a jagerbomb. Place was crowded with people pushing all over. As I mentioned, all I wanted was a jagerbomb. So why is it that when I order it, they mix the jager and the red bull in a small cup? It's called a jager BOMB. Yes, you're supposed to drop it! That's the best part.
I left very dissapointed.
Irish Kevin's is, by far, my favorite bar in Key West. Â Actually, no, it's not. Â
It's my favorite bar in the world.
It's impossible to not have a great time at Irish Kevin's. Â The key here is the entertainment- it cannot be beat. Â The entertainers (especially NY Pauly) really get the crowd involved in the performance. Â This isn't one of those bars where the act goes on stage, does their set while looking like they are bored out of their minds, just waiting for their break to go backstage and pound shots. Â The entertainers at Irish Kevin's seem to love what they do, and I like that. Â A lot.
Now, just as a disclaimer: Â this is not, i repeat NOT, a place to bring small children, your sweet old granny, your conservative Irish Catholic in-laws, or pretty much anyone who is easily offended. Â
Bring your rowdiest friends, get rip-roaring drunk, and have a blast. Â You haven't been to Key West until you've been to Irish Kevin's.
I think Irish Kevin's became super popular after the Real World filmed here because every time I went after the shows aired, the place was even more crowded than usual. Â But even before the Real World had come to town, Irish Kevin's was a fun bar. Â With cheap drinks and awesome live shows, they're definitely a stop to make on Duvall Street.
Review Source:Great entertainers, usually guy on a guitar, who gets the crowd really going. Raunchy, not for kids. Good drinks, reasonable. NO FOOD served which disappointed me; last time a few years ago they had a great plate of nachos. Last time  my wife and I spent almost 5 hours here having a ball on an otherwise rainy Saturday Key West afternoon. Dean the guy behind the bar is great. This place is a typical key west dive but oh so much fun. Has never let me down. A few doors from Sloppy Joes.
Review Source:Our usual 2nd stop while on Duval.
Love it here.
We like to head towards the back where there is a little bit of more open seating, near the bathrooms and it's less crowded. The music is always great and especially the crowd interaction. I guarantee you will sing at the top of your lungs at some point during the night, drunk or not. Of course, more drinking + more singing. Just sayin'
My next Key West visit can't come soon enough.
And yes, I will be doing lots of ...singing.
After biking around Key West it's nice to get in from the humidity and enjoy a nice cold beer on Duval! This is where I was first introduced to Dogfish Head.....that beer kicks ass! They have a good selection of beers on tap and of course liqueur too. Food is okay...they do have fresh popcorn if you have the munchies.
The bands are great and personable. They get the whole bar going :)
It's a great place to cool off and plan your next move. You can also sit next to the entrance if you wanna people watch while enjoying the a/c.
What a fun place.... when you or people walk past this place the entertainment/ guitar person has everyone yell out.... COME ON IN......when you do go in... be sure to say your from New York or New Jersey....no matter where your from.... You will find out why I tell you to do that... it is in all good fun... if you don't have fun here take the next plane out of Key West....
ohhh tell them Roryblane sent you.......
Walking down Duvall street, this place is hard to miss..your good-ol irish bar. They was a bachelorette party going on...the bachelorette seemed to be up on her feet when we entered, which was a surprise. Bartenders are quick to serve and drinks are fairly cheap (beer for $5).
all in all, good place to drink and enjoy to some good music. Crowd is fairly spring-break folks.
Gotta give it five stars, after all, we went there THREE times during our one week stay!! Â
NY Pauly was hilarious. Â He graced the stage twice while we were there, kept the crowd laughing, engaged, and chugging Guiness. Â Yes, I was one of the "chicks" that was welcomed on stage...I proudly chugged mine in 4.69 seconds without spilling!
Irish drinking songs, fast service, all in all, the perfect vacation bar. Â We were here both day and night, definitely not for kids, but great for a laugh, a shot, and a fun time. Â
They also have a webcam and online schedule...
It's a "have-to" in Key West night life! If you get there early enough you can grab a table and set up shop for the night. It will be crowded but worth it.
The stage act (usually a hilarious guy with a guitar) is always entertaining, includes Guinness chugging, horrible karaoke, and many random contests. I've been there many times and it ALWAYS delivers a raunchy, funny encounter. Just a casual and fun bar!
Beth's Tip: Not a family joint once it gets dark ;)
It's just not the same. The problem is, I'm a bit biased. I used to watch Irish Kevin perform at the bar up the street back in the mid 90s. I was excited to watch him perform at his own bar once he opened it up. His acts used to make me laugh so hard that my stomach would hurt more than my hangover the next day. I hadn't been back in about 10 years, and was sad to find out that he sold the bar and moved back to Ireland.
Whoever the guy that they had performing on a Tuesday night was horrible, so we just left. Such a shame.
My favorite bar in Key West!!!!! Â
Their live entertainer, John Solinski, is awesome. Â We loved him so much that we went back to Irish Kevin's a second time. Â We kept tipping him $ (too many people kept trying to buy him shots...lol) and at the end of his show were able to talk to him for a few minutes and got t-shirts with his famous "that's bull$#*t" saying!
I got Irish Kevin's Green Alligator drink for the green souvenir cup. Â I can hold my liquor but the drink pretty strong. Â It also has a mixture of fruit juices - pineapple, orange, etc. that my tummy doesn't usually like. Â It took me awhile to drink it. Â The other drinks are well-made. Â I can't really talk about price because anything is cheaper than mixed drinks in Los Angeles...ugh.... Â
If you are looking for some laidback fun, definitely check out Irish Kevin's. Â I had a much better time there than the other bars. Â Sloppy Joe's is a little too drunken, loud, chaotic for me. Â Irish Kevin's is where it's at!!!!
Finally after hunting all day for a daiquiri...Irish Kevin's delivered. Â I mean, you think on a rum based island you'd be able to drink any rum drink the heart desires, but with the recent Mojito fad I had trouble locking down a simple lime daiquiri. Â
Until Irish Kevins that is. Â These boys know how to pour a fella a drink too...plenty of booze, fresh lime and simple syrup...easy! Â Why I couldn't find this place earlier in the morning I'll never know.
Seriously though, great atmosphere. Â They had some guy strumming on the guitar all night and he was hilarious! Â We haven't had so much fun in a long time and I dare say you couldn't find a better time on Key West, or anywhere in the world for that matter.
And although I don't work here, and they didn't pay me to write this...get your ass into Irish Kevin's ASAP and drink your face off!
Great entertainment and service.
We went to Irish Kevin 3 times because we liked it so much. If you get a chance to see John Solinski at Irish Kevins do it.
Great act, his songs are awesome and he is funny. He'll insult you the moment you come in the bar. A great time was had by all. This place is a party. Drink Drink Drink!
Want to have fun and get wasted, this is the place to be!!!! We went there twice on two different nights, two great singers, guitar players and more. They had a beer chugging contest, shots for those who missed the clapping parts on a certain songs....everyone singing with the singer on stage and dancing.
The service is pretty good, considering it's not many waitresses. You do have to be careful though, sometimes they try to keep your change. The first night the drinks were stronger the second we had to ask for second shots in our glass which were stronger then getting two separate cups so it really worked out.
I should take a star off just for the restrooms, two stalls were broken which only left two, and the floors were a bit wet, I think someone spilled something outside so it was dragged in with dirty shoes all night, that was not NICE! But it was so much fun I just can't take a star way, maybe It's more of a 4.5 =)
But after everything, We definitely will be going back the next time we are in the Keys.
This place was a blast! Great band and so much good beer!!! Very friendly staff, too. This is the place to go if you're interested in getting wasted and having a lot of fun interacting with the band.
I wish it was a little bigger or the layout was a little different, but hey, you can't have it all!
If you hear someone yelling at you across a PA system while you walk, stumble, or craw your way down duval street its coming from the band at this place. Â I like it. Â it ads to the flare of Key West. Â Its a hardcore party place. Â Not quite a "must" for the craw. Â But still somewhere you should see or hear once. Â The drinks are a bit pricey. Â but its a island folks. Â This is a great place to be social and let your inner party animal loose! Â My first night in KW I got in around 11pm. Â I walked down KW and could hear this place for blocks. Â Then I got near the place and was amazed to see a woman nearly passed out in front of the place while it was packed and everyone was drunk off their ass and partying hard. Â Its great for just that, and only that. Â Partying and drinking hard. Â Expect only that and you LOVE this place!
P.S. Right before I submit this review Yelp asks if they have parking and what kind...LMAO Â its key west. Â theres no damn parking except at the tow truck lot. Â And dont drive after you've been out in kew west no matter what time it is. Â Get a pink cab, or walk. Â Be a smart drunk and you'll live to drink another drink. Â Dont and you could end up in a VERY bad place!
This is the place to go if you are down with getting heckled by the guitar player, and are down to get just plain drunk. We had a great time, all 3 nights that we ended up here. We got to go on stage and sing, which was interesting, and awesome in so many ways.
The guys there are totally on the prowl, so be ready ladies.
My only issue with this place is that it was SOOOOO cold in there. The AC was on WAY too high. We had to walk in and right back out the 1st night we tried to go there. Bring a hoodie.
It's the place where bachelors go for 10 shots of irish whiskey and people hang out and scream and yell and listen to a dirty-mouthed guitar playing singer talk about things I've never heard of and need translation from the book of dirty boy talk.
It's fun where drinks are drinks and you relieve your wild college days over and over again. Â woo hoo
