We decided to stroll through Capitola. We purchased a cupcake around the corner, and my g/f wanted to sample wines to go with it. She had seen It's Wine Tyme as we drove in to town, so she was heart set on going (I wasn't really, but I, of course, gave in).
Long story short, the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. There is even a little table with a mini fireplace near the back (I probably should have kept that a secret for my next visit - oh well).
The people (both staff and locals) are friendly.
We sat down for our sampling, and the woman who was helping us brought us 3 different wines to try. The sample sizes were essentially what I would consider a flute (only we hadn't even paid for anything yet). When we did finally order a glass, it was huge. Definitely not a stingy portion.
Plus, all the prices were reasonable!
Bottom line, I'm not even a huge wine person, and I loved the place.
My husband and I happened upon this cute tasting room in downtown Capitola, and were so glad we did. Â It's pretty small so seating is limited, but if you do get a seat, then you will enjoy your time here. Â
They have really reasonable wine flights - so both my husband and I got a wine flight. Â What's great is you can customize it (you don't necessarily have to order the exact wine flights that are listed on the menu). Â We met one of the owners, who also served our wine to us. Â She asked a few questions to find out what types of palettes we had, and she hit the wines right on. Â I'm a very picky wine drinker, and I liked all but one of the wines she poured in my wine flight. Â If we weren't on a budget, I would have bought more than one bottle from what we tasted. Â We would definitely come back. Â Great atmosphere, good service, fabulous wines and great prices. Â
Oh, you can also order food - they have a deal going on with the next door cafe, so you can order a burger or a plate of cheese and crackers. Â We got half a plate of cheese and crackers and it was a surprisingly generous serving. Â We'll definitely be back.
It's TINA Tyme! That's what this  fabulous spot should really be called!!
If you are at all familiar with the Capitola village, then you know how quaint this little place is. Within the last ten years, buildings have changed multiple times or lay vacant.
One of the newest additions to the town, late last year, Tina has done it right. She is/was a fabulous host. From my initial contact, via e-mail, with her to stepping foot into her little wine bar, all interactions were above and beyond.
She knew we had 10 girls coming to celebrate a bachelorette party. She let us do what we wanted with her bar tables and chairs. There was only one other customer, so her attention was basically all on us, which we loved :)
Her selection of California varietals is huge. I love her attention to detail and her ability to provide tasty wines from all over the Golden State. She puts a lot of thought behind her selections and offerings, you go girl!
So, an average taste (I believe) is 3 tastes for $12, use the Yelp app - it's a BOGO!! But, she was so awesome, we didn't even need that. She discounted our rate and poured way more tastings than 3. Granted, I'm sure she won't always offer this service to everyone - but she made sure the start of our wine tasting bachelorette extravaganza started off correctly!!
She even walked us to her competitor for our next tasting time! That's legit and proves how genuine she is. We also ran into her at dinner in Soquel and she bought a drink for the bride!
It's ALWAYS Â Wine Tyme in my book :)
Just fell in love with the whole wine tasting experience, so we'll go to wine tasting rooms on a whim. Was walking by here on our visit to Capitola and said STOP lets go!
This place is really small and the only room they had was at the bar. There was a couple with a dog strumming a guitar in the corner, pretty chill set up.
Service wasn't the best, the lady with the short blonde hair, isn't the owner. At first she seemed bothered by us, I guess our summer flip flop attire wasn't to be desired as we were wine tasting but we didn't drive up here just for that. After we chatted with her for a little bit she seemed more at ease, attentive and friendly.
The wines we sampled were pretty intense, there was a cabernet that I think had cayenne or jalepeno or something. I think it was called In Your Face. Definatley was!
This definately is a cute place if your in the Village and you want wine.
The best place for a glass of wine in Capitola - Tina (the owner) always has the best recommendations. Last week on a hot, sunny day, I had a glass of Fragolino - which is a sparkling wine that tasted like a glass of fresh strawberries - it was fantastic. And as if that wasn't enough, Tina brought over a small bowl of sliced strawberries to float inside. Great, personable service - never rushed - always good times!
Review Source:Nice atmosphere and selection of wine. Owner/pourer very knowledgeable of wines carried. Minimal beer selection for the non-wine drinker too. Also offered water to us which was a very nice touch.
Only open for three or four months but is off to a great start. So check it out! Â
We will definitely be back.
3/31/12
Absolutely the worst wine bar I have ever experienced... and I used to work for E&J Gallo.
The pours of wine for a $12 tasting were just enough for ONE SIP! There was no way in all 3 wines could I really "taste" the wine with that small of a pour. Plus everyone ordered a red tasting and all of us received white wine glasses. Not acceptable. How can you call yourself a wine bar? I mean I could have gone back home and done a better tasting for my friends at my house for free!
The topper of it all.. and what still makes me writhe with frustration is the HORRIBLE SERVICE! I really hope the women with short blonde hair is not the owner because she definitely acted like she should be working the night shift of a hole in the wall bar around the corner, not at a wine bar. When she asked for water she basically threw 3 water bottles on the table and WALKED AWAY! NO questions as to whether bottled water was ok or comment about how much it cost. Then of course, even though we only opened and drank one of the bottle, she charged us for all 3!
If I could picket against this place I would... they just opened and I hope they close soon! The "new wine bar on the block" crowd will only last for so long!!!
Hooray for stumbling upon this new treasure in the lovely village. Tina was so friendly and proud to be serving primarily local vintages, arts/crafts, and brews. Stop on by Thursdays 5-7 for pouring parties from various wineries and live music Friday/Saturday nights. So glad to have this place around with such a welcoming atmosphere and friendly owner and staff. Cheers!
Review Source:I went to It's Wine Tyme for the first time on 12/30 and then again on 1/7/12 and it is a wonderful place. Great atmosphere, nice owner, great staff and very comfortable. Good wines and beers for those of you that don't enjoy wine.
Art done by local artists is also on display and for sale and I have been fortunate enough to have a piece on lay-away that I saw.
Thumbs way up for Wine Tyme and for Capitola Village.
What a gem to find in Capitola! Â
While on a "girl's get-away" from the Sacramento area, my friend and I happened upon this lovely wine bar on our way back to our car. Instantly taken by the atmosphere, we were greeted by one of the wine hosts with his warm smile and welcome. The place had just the vibe and sophistication we were craving.
We met the owner - and she was wonderful and accommodating to several of our questions about some specific varietals.
We needed to freshen up back at our hotel, and assured them both we would be back shortly - and we were! Â What a treat to sit at the front bar looking out (it's fun to people watch) and a surprise that yet a third wine server approached us with a snack and a fun personality.
The owner circulated over to us once again and made superb recommendations for a Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay. Both were scrumptious.
Many thanks to this hospitable staff, and we will be back soon to enjoy the variety of wines and the cozy, chic space they have created!
One beautiful December day, a friend and I were strolling around Capitola Village when we came across a very new, very bright wine bar. Â Being 3 p.m. and having nothing better to do, we decided to come in and have a glass. Â Or what ended up being 6.
For someone who has spent a lot of time in Capitola over the years, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this place was very new, but moving along very well.
There are a few tall tables, plus a bar to sit at, but if you sneak in the back you can relax on the couch next to the "fireplace."
They have a decent wine selection with some well-known labels (such as Rombauer), but I would have liked to see more local wines. Â As someone who is now a tourist, I'd like to be able to taste and take back local wines to Virginia.
I also would have liked some sort of electronic purchasing system- the handwritten receipt, reviewed when tipsy, didn't enlighten me as to how much I spent on what, which as we know is VERY important.
Grabbing a glass of wine here is definitely a must- I look forward to seeing it thrive.
