Woah, the last review for this place was more than 6 months ago. Met up with an old friend I haven't seen for a food 3 years on a Saturday night for some good ol
Korean soul food and some So-mek (Soju+Mekjoo or Beer in Korean)
Just to let outdated people know, this place is NO LONGER a Izakaya but has changed to MARU MAKCHANG restaurant that specializes mostly in Makchangs (Pig Intestines: both small and large) and anjus or Korean food normally consumed with alcohol. It's nothing fancy nor a place to take a family with kids for a dinner but more like a drinking establishment with a group of friends for some conversation and catching up. Staff seems really down to earth and the food was really good. Prices are alright, slightly inexpensive than Manhattan. We also got the Yukhoe (Korean Beef Tartare served with Egg Yolk and sliced Asian pear) which was really good and seasoned perfectly. Other food items on the menu if I can recall are the usual Scallion pancakes, Golbaengi Muchim, Budaejjigae, etc. Â
If you're looking for a place to meet up with a good old friend for a night out drinking, this might be the place for you. Downside might be that if you're NOT Korean, you might end of being the only non-Korean customer there as 99.99% were Koreans when I was there last night.
I have been here on numerous occasions and love it here. Â I have to agree that their menu isn't that big and there aren't many choices to choose from. Â Same goes with the sake choices. Â But i absolutely love the waitstaff here and love how it never gets too crowded on the weekends. Â It has a great intimate setting (preferably for two people) and their house sake is cheap and great! Â Again, the food isn't the best but it's pretty good for a local area!
