Yes, I'm giving this place a 4 star. Â Bare in mind, after all, this is a local Chinese restaurant. Â Based on that category, it easily should get 4 stars. Â The food is very consistent. Â It's fresh, and CLEAN [important]. Â The only down side, at times, the staff aren't that friendly, but after all, it is a local chinese restaurant. Â
hmmm...to think of it, i don't recall ever being in a "friendly" local chinese joint.
Pretty good lunch specials for $5.50 that include fried rice and soup.
I had the beef lo mein which was yummy, had good flavor and the noodles were a great consistency. The rice was good as well.
Do NOT get the wonton soup, it is beyond terrible. It is like a wet napkin in tepid dish water.
I had the sweet and sour soup which was much much better.
Tip: They have a buy 5 get 1 lunch special free card by the counter.
This is by far the best chinese restaurant in the area. Â For comparison, I really like Ruby Palace and Hunan Gourmet. Â JP is a takeout chinese type of etablishment, yet the food is much better. The boneless spare ribs are my absolute favorite dish and have little to no fat on them. Â Actually, this is the main reasoning for my high rating. Â They use the best quality meats for certain. Â I love the sauce in their pan fried dumplings, which come crispy. Â The bill is never more than $25 for two people and I am always satisfied with the dishes I get (although, I almost always get the boneless spare ribs now).
People are attentive, friendly, and clean. Â When wanting cheap chinese food, this is the best in monmouth county ( some people think first wok in Keyport is better... but I have to disagree)
PLEASE DON'T EAT HERE!! Â I had eaten at J & P for the past 2 years, until today...when I crunched down on some sort of beetle or weevil - Â when I decided to eat the shrimp & broccoli that I didn't eat the other day! Â The food tasted good - until I got that unwelcomed addition, but I prefer cleanliness before taste! Â My family & I will never eat there again!
