I can't believe this place was 3/4 empty at 10:00 on a Saturday night (though granted the most exciting sports thing on right now is a college softball game in its 13th inning). It was a great atmosphere (including other patrons) and really fantastic live music, far superior to what I have encountered anywhere else in the area.
The food was good, burgers and fries were great; beer selection is solid, prices are decent, and all in all I think my friends and I just found our new bar.
I moved across town about 6 months ago and so I last night I remember why this is one of my favorite taverns. Â The new owners, that aren't really new anymore have added different beers, drinks and specials to the menu. They now have trivia, live music on weekends, and even pool tables on the patio. Â We had a large group come in and the server did a great job keeping up with our orders. Â I really enjoyed my burger without a bun and side salad and many people and the wings and they are fantastic.
My only complaint is my first beer tasted funny, not sure if the tap hit the glass or the glass wasn't cleaned or dried properly. Â I must say I hope I make it back again soon.
Good pickles! Â
Jax special - These folks know burgers! Â The beef is quality and the goat cheese was a perfect match. Â Slammin burger!!
Veggie Pita Pizza - Pretty good for a veggie pizza, tasty thin crust with fresh ingredients.
Service is okay, could have been better but it was a little buisy.
Don't get me wrong, I like Jax's food and drink selection. They have almost any beer you could think of and many of them on draft. What I don't like are the low ceilings that do not absorb any sound so when you eat & drink inside, it's so loud most of the time that you can't hear yourself talk. I don't like that they allow dogs outside where you can also eat. I don't think it's even legal yet to have dogs at Unincorporated Seminole County food establishments. Anyway, I would rather see dogs  then all the people I see with babies there!
Review Source:Nfl ticket broken. They blame direct tv. But bar dwn the street has it just fine. Â Lame. Â Again barred for being too much of a fan. Â Jax management, the spanish guy and the fat dude at the door, are the worst. Â I hope this place closes down sometime soon. Â This is a "family establishment" Â and ruins the fan experience for any football game. unless you are cheering against an underdog. Â This is the 3rd season in a row I have seen people escorted out for cheering on their team. Â How can you call yourself a "sports bar"?... Â worst bar in lake mary by far.
Review Source:Jax definitely has its ups and downs:
Positives: free pickles, half price wing special on Monday nights, EXCELLENT burgers, gigantic beer selection, friendly wait staff. I live within walking distance!
Negatives: You sometimes have to ask several times for the pickle jar, some items a bit higher priced than should be, parking can be an issue when they are busy, hard to find a table during Sunday NFL games.
Excellent draft beer selection coupled with a great menu of consistently well-prepared food. The beer selection is the second best in Lake Mary, after World of Beer, but WOB doesn't serve food. Very homey and inviting atmosphere inside, and a relaxing deck by the pond to boot.
The spicy ketchup is great, particularly on the Legend Burger. Several dishes incorporate prosciutto, a nice touch. I'd also recommend the pizzas, which are the crispy variety that I prefer. And I'm from Chicago - I'm telling you, I've had the deep dishes people talk about and thin crust is better. A couple of small tips: people talk about the free pickles, but I've been to Jax about a dozen times and have gotten the pickles just once. Don't be surprised if they don't show. Also, the wing sauce is about average, so I'd go with a burger, pizza, or deli sandwich instead.
I used to love Jax when it first came about as the hybrid quaint neighborhood bar infused with good food and a great beer selection. Â This is when it was all about building positive repor with potential life long customers, things have changed which is probably why rumors are circulating thats it for sale. Â
The last time we went up there EVERYTHING had changed. Â I believe that when competition arrises in similar geographic locations the waters sailed are no longer "Blue". Â This is where marketing, advertising and promotions plays a heavy hand in the fortune (or mis") in the repeated consistant business. Â There have been many businesses that have been in this space and Jax has enjoyed 4 good years of success but with The Tilted Kilt, Friendly Confines, and that whole "Viagra Square" of bars maybe its time to change the model or turn in the towel.
Its often difficult to control employees and people as a whole but the grass roots marketing campaign that was used to bring people in at the beginning appears to fledging and coming apart at the seams. Â They should extend the deck to the water and maybe offer a party on the lake atmosphere...
Pretty solid fare and excellent beer selection. Waitress was a hard working doll. Attentive and welcoming offering free beer samples.
We tried a few pizza's. Cracker thin crust and delicious, but not like a typical pizza. Wing were standard but hotest flavor will leave spice freaks wanting more. Â
All in all a solid place and if you are not from the area it's a nice change from chain restaurants. Sit outside! Out door dining always a plus.
Wonderful, extensive, varied and impressive selection of beers and ciders. To me, that alone gets it 3 stars, then I'll give it a fourth one for all the fun times I've had here as well as the friendly and accommodating staff. The menu is very interesting - there seems to be a lot of stuff on it that you just can't get at other places you'd go to for lunch/dinner and a beer. (Though it does have the word "Deli" in its name, so that makes sense.) I've had the burgers, fish & chips, wings, nachos and pizzas here and all were good. Many times I visited here, though, I went simply for the beer/cider selection, which is unparalleled in the Lake Mary/Longwood area.
There are a lot of TVs both in- and outside, which makes this an ideal spot during football season. My father and some friends and I were regulars here for Giants games a few years back, though we now make Mugshots in Altamonte Springs our home since we found out that that's where a Giants gathering convenes. However, when the Giants play on a Sun./Mon. night & the gang isn't getting together at Mugshots, my father and a few friends and I are usually here. It seems they even upgraded to a few really good TVs (inside and just to the right of the entrance) - we watched a game here maybe in late Sept./early Oct. and were really impressed with the TV we were watching our game on. Looked good!
It's okay to bring your kids here, too - a few of my friends have children & have brought theirs here to watch the Giants games. They may hear the occasional expletive, though this isn't a rowdy place and people don't get carried away with any regularity ... though it has happened before. (I've even been guilty of it myself, though it was during isolated incidents - to be specific, the Giants' playoff wins vs. the Cowboys and Packers on their way to the Super Bowl a few years ago.)
I prefer this Jax to the one on Edgewater Dr., though I've only been to the latter maybe 3-4 times ... which I really can't explain, since I live less than 5 minutes from it!
Overall, this is a cool place with a menu that should have something for everyone and a beer/cider selection that should have you coming back several times to try everything that sounds interesting. Highly recommended!
Our group of friends love to get together about once a month and visit Jax for drinks, dinner, or both.
They're menu is robust and somewhat eclectic providing customers with choices of pizzas, sandwiches, wings, and more!
One of the main reasons we frequent Jax is for their large selection of draught beer with nearly any style you could want tapped and ready. Combined with a full bar, they have something for everyone, including outside seating which is great for Oct. - April dinning.
Finally, the restaurant is quite large and we've never had to wait for a table. There are televisions throughout the entire place, so catching your favorite sporting event/game is always possible.
Jax 5th Avenue Deli and Ale House in Lake Mary is definitely fun for friends and family. Parking can be challenging, but that would be the only fault I could find.
I'd heard about Jax for some time and had both positive and negative views. Â We were out and about and decided to give their draft list a go.
This location is in an older building that originally housed a German/Swiss themed place. Â The guy spent a fortune on wood and beams to make it look like an old lodge. Â Naturally it failed miserably in scorching Florida. Â It went through a few other concepts before Jax moved in and it appears they're doing well. Â The downside is it feels a bit cavernous. Â Huge bar though.
We found a place at the bar and perused the beer list. Â It's huge and I think they have over 40 drafts. Â We had pretty quick service and soon we both had cold drinks in front of us. Â Lots and lots of tv's are scattered around the place so I guess you could call it a sports bar. Â The crowd was very young and I assume local. Â We looked over the menu which is dominated by sandwiches and each made a selection. Â I ordered the wings, my wife the cajun chicken pita pizza.
Now for the food section. Â The pita pizza came out fresh and crispy and easily worth the price charged. Â The wings were a bad disappointment. Â They were supposed to be the hottest flavor but weren't much hotter than black pepper. Â They were also barely warm and tough. Â The bartender by now was busier and it took some time for her to notice I wasn't eating them. Â In the meantime I grazed off the pizza. Â Once she noticed she was extremely apologetic and ordered me my own pita pizza which again came out perfectly. Â
It was late now and time to go and the bartender surprised us by comping our last round of drinks to make up for her delay. Â We didn't think she was that slow but it was a very welcome gesture. Â As we were getting up a couple had their burgers delivered and I have to say they looked awesome. Â Next time I'll try a burger or one of the other pita pizzas.
All in all a nice visit. Â The wings were bad but the staff fixed it quickly and the other food made up for that shortcoming. Â It is a little loud in there but I imagine on game day that makes for a great sports bar atmosphere. Â We'll definitely be back.
Jax is just a great friendly place! Â Have to admit that I've wanted to hit the Lake Mary location, but have only gone to the Edgewater one. Â There is a history to this location, but I'll get to that shortly.
Like I said, Jax is always a friendly place to go to. Â I have never been disappointed with the food, which I consider a very reasonable value for what you get. Â On top of that, I love - did I say LOVE - the beer collection that they have - both in bottle & on tap!! Â There are a couple, but very few places in the area that offer so many different varieties & even less that offer it with great food to boot.
Now, to the location. Â I've been wanting to go here, because I really wanted to see what they did with the building. Â The woods for this place where imported from Switzerland by the owner of the original Swiss Inn, which was a really wonderful fine dining restaurant. Â There was just such beautiful detail, etc. Â
Will definitely be hitting the Lake Mary location more often, especially because it is so much more roomier than Edgewater, but you can't go wrong at either location.
Cider Heaven! Â This was actually the very first place I tried my first Woodchuck thanks to Kelley S. - dang that was 2 years ago and I still remember it =)
I went today to grab some lunch and I can't think of a better place to enjoy a cider at 11am when it is 65 and sunny out. Â Not to mention all the Magic swag glowing after that Lakers fight yesterday =)
I took back a woodchuck and a pulled bbq pork sandwich. YUM!!! (a little heavy on the sauce though... didn't really taste the yummo Pork) Comes with chips which was perfect as it wasn't too heavy. Perfect way to start my Monday afternoon. Â This place is a great spot to catch games with all the TVs around. Â They have inside, out front and out back seating which is awesome.
Totally a great spot to check out!
Great casual ambiance. Good place for a beer and a sandwich. with a ballgame. Service is quite slow, however. We enjoy sitting outdoors when the weather allows, as the inside can be quite noisy (you'll have to yell to be heard at your own table).
Love the wings and boneless tenders, every which way I've tried them. Don't visit if you don't have at least an hour or more to spend, as you'll be late getting out of there. We used to go quite often, but we've slowed down to every few months, because of the slow service.
I've been to the store on Edgewater and this is definitely the one that I prefer. The atmosphere is pretty cool, I like the lakeside patio option or the big front patio, as well as the indoor dining. There are lots of big screens so if there is more than one game on, it's easy to catch the team you are looking for! As you can imagine, it gets pretty loud sometimes so consider this when deciding on the type of dining experience you are in search of on a particular night. It's kid friendly and there are even some video games that the kids seem to enjoy in addition to the various televisions, at least one of which always seems to be dialed in to cartoon network!
I'm not a huge beer fan, in fact I don't care for it all but if you are, Jax has over 50 varieties on tap. I love that they serve cider, both on tap, and in the bottle, and in different flavors. I like the Woodchuck Raspberry and Pear. Mmmm. I also fell in love with the Framboise, a Belgium beer, yes a beer! It's AWESOME and that alone takes me back to Jax over and over!
The food is pretty good too. A large menu for a sports bar and a pretty good selection too. I've had the pizzas, burgers (chili burger), wings, Sorry Charlie (tuna melt), and I love the Salami & Cheese appetizer; it's big enough to feed the family. Yum.
All in all, I like Jax quite a bit. The prices aren't bad either, but if you order the large Framboise, a pint, be prepared when you get the bill, it's about $8.50, that was a big surprise the first time I went and ordered four. OUCH! lol Now, I have a Sprite and limit myself to one or two.
It's been a while since I went to Jax (8 months?) even though it's practically right in my backyard of where I work. Â The last time, I enjoyed the different beers they had, and the grouper on a big bed of spinach was delectable for a very reasonable price. Â I ventured back tonight with a group, and was disappointed to see my grouper dish no longer on the menu (at least I didn't see it). Â I noted how good the beer choices are, but how limiting their food menu was - not so much in terms of variety, but the level or quantity of food you might be looking for out of a dinner menu. Â I mean, it's great for lunch, but dinner should not be just wraps and sandwiches and salads. Â I settled on the salmon and caviar pizza. Â At $7, it was very reasonable, but the pizza is pretty tiny, and not what you might call a hungry-man's-dinner size. Â That's OK for the price, but it really should be billed more as an appetizer so that there are no false expectations that turn into disappointment. Â It tasted alright, but MAN, was it chock-ful of sodium. Â Perhaps the smoked salmon (salty) and caviar (VERY salty) pairing was not such a hot idea for anyone a heartbeat away from cardiac arrest (that'd be about 35% of the population). Â An idea might be to put a little more cheese (it had VERY little cheese) and a little less of caviar and salmon. Â Two other things were somewhat disappointing. Â One, the topsy-turvy kitchen. Â I arrived at least 10 min. after everyone at the big table of a dozen people had ordered, and I got my food a full 15 min. ahead of the next "flight" of meals that came out (which INCLUDED pizzas like my order), and another 10 min. ahead of the third and final flight. Â I felt bad, but it's really not in my control. Â Second, they seemed a bit understaffed. Â Here we are, first game of the World Series and the Magic's season-opening game (both on TV of course); while they're not full at 7:45 when I left, they were not staffed to handle the crowd. Â How many times did I have to flag down the wait staff for another beer? Â It's not THEIR fault, as the wait staff seemed pretty sharp in terms of keeping track of who's having what, food and drink. Â Does management not realize that they could be selling more drinks if they had the right number of waiters on?
Review Source:Been a couple of times in groups of 5-15 always past 8PM. Â Lots of food choices but it's all "meh", not awful. Â Ambiance is OK; gets pretty loud sometimes cause of the acoustics and when there's a game going on. Â Turn up the game! Â Service is friendly which makes up for the slow.
Come for the beer. Â There's a large selection and lots on tap.
I was in the Lake Mary area with my girlfriend for a weekend and decided to give this place a shot. It's in a great location right next to a small lake. The wait staff was friendly and had some great recommendations. Their beer selection is awesome. As a beer lover myself, I was in heaven. They have a great selection of micro-brews and all kinds of Belgian beers.
They have an extensive menu with many great options. The menu was very descriptive so there were at least five different things I wanted to get. I had a sandwich and it was fantastic. My girlfriend had a wrap which was equally as good. You could tell the cook's took their time and didn't just slap it together.
Overall, it was a great dining experience. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes great food and beer. Cheers!
If you like cold beer and delicious food all served up with a friendly attitude, you will love this place. Â It is a magnet for beer lovers and legal fun times. Â The employees remember your name, and work to serve you non stop. Â Skip every other place in town, as the manager at this bar makes you feel right at home if you have an issue. Â
I've been coming to this bar since they have opened and I have never been disappointed. Â The beer selection is vast, and the food is excellent. Â I personally like their italian sandwich (ask to get it toasted), and I think their wings are phenomenal. Â
As a beer lover, there is no other place in Lake Mary that quenches my thirst for variety, and if you drink 100 different beers there (you can keep track with a printed list they give you), they will engrave your name in a mug and keep it behind the bar for you. Â I'm #2! Â
All in all, Jax Lake Mary is a great place to go any time of the day. I've never had a warm beer, burnt food, attitude, seen illegal drugs being sold, employees fighting, or had a bad experience with management. Â Try it out!
I've been to the Edgewater Jax a few times but recently stopped into this one for some take out at lunchtime. The food is solid at Jax with some interesting and different combinations of flavors.
The restaurant looks like a lodge inside with a high ceiling and carved wooden beams. It is fairly big, with a nice outdoor deck overlooking a pond and grassy area. Since it was lunch I couldn't sample the many beers they had on tap but they do have a huge selection. I'm looking forward to going back one evening and working through some of their brews!
I drove to the Lake Mary Jax specifically because they have a full kitchen that offers burgers and wings--the Edgewater Jax offers only sandwiches and flat bread pizzas. Â The Jax in Lake Mary has some very intriguing menu items, but my friend and I decided to order 20 wings, half BBQ and half mild. Â When the server brought the wings to the table, they didn't have any sauce on them at all, instead a small container of BBQ sauce and mild sauce were propped in the basket. Â The waitress explained that the cook refused to split the order with two different kinds of sauce, so she had him put the sauces on the side. Â Outraged, my friend and I wondered why the waitress didn't ask our preference before she brought out the food, or why the cook refused to split the order. Â When we sent the food back to the kitchen, the manager then explained that, when they are busy, it's just too time consuming for the line cook to split wing orders so their restaurant doesn't do it. Â I think I may possibly have understood that reasoning if there had been more than 10 people in the entire restaurant. Â But even then, if we had ordered 10 mild wings and another order of 10 BBQ wings, it would have taken the same amount of time. Â Because we were afraid that the cook would spit in our food, we refused to order something else. Â At that point, the shift manager called the general manager on his day off to get special permission to make our wings the way we wanted them, and when the food was delivered the shift manager gave us a stern warning that this was a special exception and we would not be able to get a split order of wings in the future. Â I give Jax props for wanting to make us happy, but seriously, what is wrong with that place? Â They made a rule that in no way improves the efficiency in the kitchen and they have to get special permission from a GM to make the cook do his job and make the customer happy. Â Seriously? Seriously! I have not been back since.
Review Source:Finally, a decent bar has come to Lake Mary. Â But wait, they actually serve really good food? Â Yes! Â A good burger, excellent wings, giant fresh salads. Â It was a little crowded at first, but now it is a little more sedate. Â At night, the parking lot is crowded till closing time.
Review Source:This is the newest Jax 5th Avenue location and it's pretty awesome despite the Lake Mary honkies. Â Their beer selection is awesome as expected. Â The bartender with the knee brace is fantastic!!! Â If he finds out that you're a lover of good beer, he'll hook you up with free samples of their newest beers. Â Got to love free booze.
