*the short: Â The Food was better than most "Chinese food" in the area. The Service could have been better.
**Please do not interpret this review as rant. I have done my best to describe my experience from the good to the bad.
SERVICE:
If you like SPICY food (like Sichuan style food is supposed to be) make sure to be VERY VERY VERY clear that you want it spicy. I asked for a spicy dish (with a spicy symbol next to it, plus she told me it would be spicy)  to be extra spicy but they made it very sweet. It tasted like sugar sauce. To be honest, I couldn't eat much of it. The lady made the hard sale about how what they gave me was "really good" and wasn't to interested in correcting it. She gave me a spiel about how it was "supposed to taste that way" and implied I ordered the wrong dish and how next time to order "xxxxx dish". I was shocked. When I asked (politely) to correct it and add some spice to the dish I could see the disappointment on her face though, she did politely. It still wasn't spicy but it at least had some type of flavor to it. After I had them correct the dish the staff was ignoring my table. I had to go to the front counter to get their attention. It seems that if you like spicy then you have to ask them in Chinese as I should have done. Just ask "  " .
From what i see in the review it seems that people rate the service as of good quality. I can see that. They're sweet, smiling, give you the thumbs up, and ask " is everything thing is ok" and they are also good about refilling the water. Though, when the food is not ok the service turns sour pretty quick. They will try to convince you that the food IS good. Haha. Just wow.
FOOD
Compared to other "Chinese food" in the local area it is pretty good. No doubts about that.  Assuming I never had an issue at this restaurant I would recommend it a 4 star (for this area) as it seems as if they have food that is slightly closer to a Chinese taste than most local places.
Anyway, if you read this and have or will eat here. Let me know about your experience!
It's hard, these days, to find a restaurant that's authentic Chinese and not Americanized. Â If you're looking for the fried and greasy fare that most restaurants (particularly buffets) serve under the guise of Chinese food, you're not going to find it here. Â The food is light and flavorful, and the portions are a great size for the price. Â We've always had friendly (if a bit slow) service when we go, and leave very happy with what we were served.
My only complaint is a lack-luster takeout menu, compared to the sit-down one, but even in takeout we're generally happy with what we've been served. Â Definitely a favorite!
We love coming to Jimmy's. He an his wife are always there to take your order. They and the staff are very friendly...Jimmy knows us personally!....food has always been good and hot. The menu is very large, and they will be happy to recommend popular dishes( make sure to try the Szechwan dumplings and string bean with pancake). Food is averagely priced but it is fair for the quality. It can get crowded on weekend evenings. Last I checked, they're closed on mondays.
Review Source:Based on the ratings I wanted to try the place out. I came on a Saturday for an early lunch. I was the only customer for a while. The style and ambience of the place was great. It reminded me of a Chinese restaurant my parents would take me to as a child. In the days before the great buffet explosion. Tasteful and ethnic. Although its tucked away in a corner of a strip mall you quickly forget that upon entering. I ordered the empress chicken with crab Rangoon and egg drop soup. The soup was great. It tasted and looked like it had been prepared, not poured from a can. 2 small dishes of sauce were provided. One duck and one mustard. The elevator styled "heart of gold" that played was a little odd I thought. :) The crab Rangoon and chicken were both LIGHTLY fried and tasted fresh and very full of flavor. The sauce on the chicken was very simply amazing. Spice level was as requested. This was the 1st meat dish I've had in a LONG time. This place is most DEFINITELY worth a stop!
Review Source:In a city where most of the "Chinese Restaurants" are now gi-normous, all-you-can-eat buffets with generic food that is similar at every buffet, it is nice to find a Chinese restaurant that isn't a buffet.
The food is really good and the service is great. Â I highly recommend the dumplings and the green beans. Â I don't think there is anything that I wouldn't recommend because everything I have tried has been wonderful. Â My friends and I preferred to go at lunch time and while it seems busy, we've never had to wait for a table. Â It is one of the top Chinese restaurants I prefer. Â The prices are fairly reasonable, if you go at lunch time you can have lunch under $10 and if you go at dinner and order family style, I think when you divide the cost per person for the amount of food, it is a pretty good deal.
This place was talked up as THE place you had to go for chinese. Â It definately had that authentic feel, and Jimmy takes everyone's order. Â Had a tough time finding anything on the menu that wanted, and my guest and I were a bit underwhelmed with the food. Â Nothing bad, just not worth the hype.
Review Source:Amazing! Jimmy Jeng, and his lovely wife, are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. In addition to their accommodating demeanor, Szechwan, really is the best Chinese food I've ever consumed. And, trust me, I've eaten a few China dishes in my time.
Here are some of the creations that are worthy of 5 stars:
Pot Stickers (You will never find better pot stickers, anywhere!)
Honey Sesame Beef
Dragon Beef
Orange Shrimp
In addition to the amzing food, Jimmy offers a pretty damn good wine list too. Huge portions, reasonable prices, and quick, friendly service, will always guarantee a return visit when I'm visiting Evansville.
Alright, let me get straight to the point, my wife and i went for dinner to this place and tried the Szechwan dumpling for starters and it was extremely scrumptious. We then ordered for Szechwan style Shrimp Lo Mein which was good and this was not part of their menu. We also went a little wild and ordered the Bum Bum chicken which we then regretted.
This place is great for take outs rather than dining in.
I've been told by my in-laws that Jimmy Jeng's is the place to be for Chinese food. Mr. Jeng himself takes all the orders, serves you your wine, and makes sure the staff delivers your food.
I've also been told that the Szechwan dumplings are to-die-for. Well they were right! I've never seen dumplings swimming in some sort of spicy sauce that is just...indescribable. The sweet and sour soup tasted just right...not too spicy though. For main course I had the basil chicken hot pot - it was drenched in basil. The chicken was tender, the basil was prominent. Delicious. Same with the general tso's chicken.
And did I mention this place doesn't use MSG? I can really tell - the food doesn't taste like other Chinese places that use MSG. It really makes a difference.
This is the closest chinese restaurant to me which means this is where I get take-out. Â Forunately I got lucky since this place is way above average. Â A great selection of appetizers and their dishes are consistently delicious. Â Since I work nights I don't eat dinner here much, but if you get the chance I owuld reccomend, the service is very friendly.
Review Source:I had been wanting to check this place out because everyone I know who goes there loves it. Â Well the food was excellent, but the service was terrible. Â It did not take long to get seated and the dining room was about 1/2 full, but it took about 10 minutes to get acknowledgment from a server and even longer to get our water glasses filled. Â Our food took a very long time to come out, and after it did no one came by to ask how everything was or if we needed anything. Â They never brought silverware for my 3 year old daughter so we had to share a fork, and we never got refills of our soft drinks. Â Jimmy dropped the check off at our table without even asking if we enjoyed our food or if we wanted dessert or anything.
The food was good enough that I might order take out, but that's about it.
To keep this short and sweet: Jimmy Jeng's food is well worth your time and money. Even coming from Chicago, where good Chinese food isn't hard to find, I can't say enough about this place -- maybe because Jimmy was formerly a Chicago restaurateur!
The food is ALWAYS fresh, delicious, and well arranged/prepared. Try their Szechwan Dumplings -- they'll become your next favorite food. Jimmy himself is usually there, along with his wife. Feel free to ask them about their food, etc. -- they'll be happy to talk!
The order was in four dishes and a cup of rice. Â We started off with green beans with pancake. Â Ok stop there. Â My thought was the Chinese pancake bread that I thought I heard of, but appears I made it up. Â It was a thin tortilla with green beans that you would order in a normal Chinese restaurant. Â The server wraps four green bean pancakes and serves them to the table. Â Nice, right!? Â Anyway, it was different, and I like that. Â
We ordered General Tso's Chicken, Combination Chow Mein, and a shrimp dish, but I didn't have any of that.  I really enjoyed the GTC.  I kept eating it, even though I didn't order it.  I'd give four and a half  stars, but they don't allow a half.  Why not 5 stars?  You will never know!  -=o)  Just go, enjoy, and appreciate the wonderful customer service. Â
Psst...I really give them a 5-star, I'm just trying to piss people off.
This is the BEST Szechwan anywhere! The reviewer who said she had never had anything good here, has absolutely not tasted the dumplings! To die for! I haven't tried anything here that I haven't liked!
Also, at lunch time, they have meals that include the entree, choice of soup, eggroll, and crab rangoon. All for around $6 or $7! Best value around!
