I was introduced to Jimmy's by my non-Yelper friend Alison. Â I must say, for a lounge, it is not bad.
Jimmy's is a more upscale bar than anything in Downtown Akron. Â Needless to say, they are a little bit pricier than everything else, yet have a better selection. Â For instance, imports reigned supreme over domestics, and wine and well drinks reigned supreme over beer. Â The bartenders are awesome and friendly, so you can at least strike up a conversation with them.
The clientele is far less fratty than at Lux or Paolo's (thank God). Â It's also more refined than at 69 Taps. Â In other words, you're more likely to get yuppies, but nothing is likely under 23 or over 40. This isn't a hipster bar, though; it's just upscale. Â There is a front patio, as well as a back door that exits out onto Paul Williams St.
Jimmy's, for a small Downtown Akron lounge, is pretty sweet.
A night of bar hopping lead us to Jimmy's after a stop at 69 Taps. With a couple drinks in my already I am usually a bit more loving to a drinking establishment.
My first impression was cozy with the looks of a more regular crowd. The seating was pretty nice although not the most comfortable. A dim light environment that had a off duty cop, 2 girl friends and a couple who looked like they were on their first date. Everyone seemed to also be having a good time so that is always a plus. Our order was taken quickly but overall the menu is kind of boring. It has enough but beer wise I would like to see more. The martini menu was nice and I think that is what they aim to be, more of a martini place though they do say wine too. The wine list was lacking. I think if they carried more I'd come back for a glass.
Pros: Great service, stiff drink, decent price.
Cons: the music played here is awful. It's a mix of everything that is played entirely too loud for this small bar. It's the reason in the end we decided to leave.
I might be back to grab a drink and try their food.
