Back in my heyday I thought I was a karaoke star. I have since grown older, wiser, and perhaps more aware of what my own voice sounds like. It ain't pretty, folks. I'm trying to come up with a comparable image, but I'm stumped. Anyway, I have avoided participating in karaoke for quite some time. I have been to several NOLA venues that offer it but I have just stood back in the crowd watching. Then I went to Kajun's for the first time. I don't know if this was a good thing, but I am so comfortable here I don't give a shit what my voice sounds like. Note to self: Â Africa by Toto is a much harder song than you think so no more of that Kilimanjaro bullshit. But if I want to sing Barbie Girl or something by Cake (when the voice is really hurting), then I'm going to rock that out. They have a great 2 for 1 drink check-in deal with Yelp, friendly bartenders and patrons. This is a great way to spend a night with your friends in the St. Claude and now that they also have the pop-up restaurant Borachho attached, you don't have to hit Rally's for food! Warning: It can get pretty smokey in here if you hate that kind of thing.
Review Source:I didn't get a chance to karaoke (what's wrong with me?!) but I have to say that if I lived in New Orleans this would probably be my karaoke spot. Â They have a pretty extensive catalog. Â
Kajun's is a dive bar so don't expect fancy. Â It has low ceilings, dark interior and a glowing neon light in the front window.
Of course you have a fine selection of New Orleans beers to choose from, and they are CHEAP. Â I loved sitting at the bar. Â The food is pretty good for bar food and affordable (note: Â order from the man with the iPad walking around the room).
