Back in my heyday I thought I was a karaoke star. I have since grown older, wiser, and perhaps more aware of what my own voice sounds like. It ain't pretty, folks. I'm trying to come up with a comparable image, but I'm stumped. Anyway, I have avoided participating in karaoke for quite some time. I have been to several NOLA venues that offer it but I have just stood back in the crowd watching. Then I went to Kajun's for the first time. I don't know if this was a good thing, but I am so comfortable here I don't give a shit what my voice sounds like. Note to self:  Africa by Toto is a much harder song than you think so no more of that Kilimanjaro bullshit. But if I want to sing Barbie Girl or something by Cake (when the voice is really hurting), then I'm going to rock that out. They have a great 2 for 1 drink check-in deal with Yelp, friendly bartenders and patrons. This is a great way to spend a night with your friends in the St. Claude and now that they also have the pop-up restaurant Borachho attached, you don't have to hit Rally's for food! Warning: It can get pretty smokey in here if you hate that kind of thing.

Good karaoke joint and there's even a back area for you to get away from the renditions of songs that you'd rather not hear.

There's quite a crowd though so if you're going to sing, be ready for a real audience.

I didn't get a chance to karaoke (what's wrong with me?!) but I have to say that if I lived in New Orleans this would probably be my karaoke spot.  They have a pretty extensive catalog.

Kajun's is a dive bar so don't expect fancy.  It has low ceilings, dark interior and a glowing neon light in the front window.

Of course you have a fine selection of New Orleans beers to choose from, and they are CHEAP.  I loved sitting at the bar.  The food is pretty good for bar food and affordable (note:  order from the man with the iPad walking around the room).

I've been back to Kajun's a few times since my last review and I've decided to bump them up a star!

Kajun's is a neat little place and now they don't cut off the karaoke. I actually got to sing and get the full experience! They probably have any song you could think of. Just go to the computer, enter your song and name and you are all set! I like that they have the list of singers on screen so you know how long you have until your turn and the people running the whole operation couldn't be nicer.

When I came here last I was just drinking water, and I really liked that they have two canteens filled with ice water so that you can just help yourself. I think more bars should do this because I'm sure that bartenders do get tired of people asking for water. It takes up their time when they could be getting other patrons real drinks.

My bar tender sucked and that just messed  up my first drink. After that I left to another bar. Sorry, but hire competent bar tenders because that blond woman was horrible.

After checking-in for the Mod about St. Claude Pub Crawl at Kajun's Pub, our group decided to leave and explore the area since karaoke hadn't started yet.  Three galleries, an antique store and 5 blocks later we decided our high was going downhill so we made our way back to Kajun's Pub.

Kajun's pub has to be the coolest spot in the St. Claude area. With REALLY good food (not your average pub food), cheap drinks, heavy pours and karaoke what more could you want on a Saturday night? We should have never left!

Thanks to another table of Yelpers we got to try some of the sausages offered by Borracho located in Kajun's. There was a Borracho bratwurst, Chicago dog and Sonoran dog. Each sausage was topped with onions, peppers and even a pineapple-chilli relish. Many raved about the wings but we were a bit too full to order anything further.

Drinks were super cheap and pours were heavy. Make sure to check-in with Yelp if you want to take advantage of the BOGO offer. I think our round of 6 fireballs and a Bud only came up to $15! The bartenders and servers seemed busy but that didn't affect their service.

Lastly the karaoke was very organized. There is a pretty good list of songs available and it's easy to scan through. My fiancée got to the window pretty early so he was 4th in line and then our friends shortly after. If your looking for a more local spot away from the chaos of the French Quarter and want to karaoke I would check this place out. And make sure to come on an empty stomach because you will want to try the sausage!

Good Sausage Deal For Sausage Fest Pub Crawl

    SITREP

I got to hang out here with friends recently as we began a pub crawl on this particular Saturday night.  While here, we enjoyed some drink deals and a 3 course meal featuring very delicious sausages.

    DRINK CHECK IN SPECIAL

To begin with, when checking into Kajun's, there was a nice 2-4-1 digital coupon I was able to redeem.  Whether or mixed drinks or two beers, it was a great deal.

    A FIXED MEAL OFFER

I also took advantage of a Sausage festival meal plan that offered a few courses for about $25, including the tax & tip.  The meal included:

    (1) chips with a creamy cheese;
    (2)  a semi-crispy chicken liver dish; and,
    (3)  Three (3) different sausage creations, including one bacon-wrapped sausage, and a bratwurst-sauerkraut creation that came with a giant basket of French Fries.

It was all pretty good, though I think I ate one sausage too many this particular evening.  ;)

    THE LOWDOWN

I had a good time and probably would hit this deal up again since it was very filling.

    4/5 I AM SINGING.

I AM SINGING. I AM BEING LOUD.

i love it. love love love it. and that check in offer for a BOGO? love that too. combined with a heavy pour, i was hitting notes that only dogs could hear. it was music in my own damn head. there is some real talent and community going on here folks, and the song choices are true gems. just give in, start tapping that foot, bobbing your head, singing along...softly. like an embarrassed whisper.

then louder. and louder. and with the throng of a thousand drunk angels, give into it. melt into melody (or tonedeafness) and let it be.

there is no shame. only superstardom.

Apparently if you get a kitchen all of your drink prices skyrocket, at least that's the idea at Kajun's. Service is always poor and the new food dishes are a waste of money.

I wouldn't waste my time here with so many other great bars across the street and in the area. At least I don't plan on going back here again.

Great place to just get drunk and sing updated karaoke. I went for a party. Not my crowd typically. There was no AC and not a place to walk. Bartenders could only make basic drinks. :/ still fun! And I was so surprised that they have a kitchen. And their food samples were awesome!!! I think that was the best part.

It was a muggy spring evening and headed to a pal's birthday shindig. My mind was riddled with questions: "Why here? It's so far from home?! Oh, good Lord, parking down there...." All my anxiety was quelled upon crossing the threshold of this divine, karaoke-fueled, smoke-filled hellhole.

Low ceilings, poor ventilation and chain-smokers will not help you save your throat the morning after. Somehow, it won't stop you or your friends from serenading or screeching guilty pleasures. A great selection of booze, even-keeled staff, daily specials and even a Yelp deal adds to the enjoyment.

They don't know how to do crowds.
One night the place was too full for people to sit at the bar. So with all this extra space, and no trouble reaching the bar, people line up along the bar waiting to be served.the bartender quickly glances away so as not to make eye contact. The new bar back kept saying hang in there she'll see you. It turns out a dozen people got poor service because they went to the open bar. (Who knows how many more). The bartender only served from the service center (most bars use that for guaranteed service when too many people are seated at the bar for anyone to walk up.)
The thing is here having more than three people in line makes the bathrooms, the back half off the bar and adjoining station unusable. The owner/manager was made aware, and didn't care. I took three other people with me when I left, and tell people to avoid the place. who knows what the other 8 people I personally saw with the same issue (several of which I talked to or overheard complaining about it to there friends) did or are still saying. (I write this after 8 weeks. Still no response or resolution. Hopefully this helps others)

Kajun's is a strange yet wonderful karaoke bar. There is always a random mix of gutterpunks, yuppie kids, middle-aged black people, gay couples, and foreigners. The booze and beer pitchers are cheap, the karaoke is always entertaining, and people are (for the most part) super friendly.

Every time I want to sing "Creep" by Radiohead the karaoke MC is all like, "I just sang that 20 minutes ago pick something else" and I'm like, "No! I want to do my best Thom Yorke with a lazy eye impression" and finally she relents and lets me sing. The bartenders are nice. The bathrooms are clean. There is a vending machine in the back that sells cigs and Zapps. What else can I say? Go check it out and get your sing on.

    Okie Dokie Karaoke!

On our first full day in NOLA, a friend was celebrating his birthday, and he wanted his partay to take place at Kajun's Pub for some serious karaoke action.  All in all, not a bad experience.

Kajun's is located in the Marigny, just east of Treme, so the departure from the French Quarter was a welcomed transition.  However, that didn't mean Kajun's didn't have its crowd.  Upon arrival, we barely made it through the door and ended up standing in front of it.  This also affected our chances for some karaoke action, having to wait quite some time for a turn.

I'm on the fence about how Kajun's runs its karaoke.  Part of me likes the digital screen that allows you to surf the catalog, but there's only one screen.  It faces out into the crowd, so everyone around you can see what the selection is.  Someone like me who enjoys being sneaky and picking something selfishly or with silly intentions was pensive when choosing my song.  I felt like the whole world was watching me type in bands and browsing the server.  Ultimately, I chose a little Elvis Costello and killed it.  Naturally.

However, the process seemed fair enough.  The computer went in order of submission, but that meant people could repeat before new patrons got a chance to get up there.  I probably waited over an hour to get through and watched a few people come up again before I got my chance.  I will say that the karaoke dj kept the line moving, and people were getting up there just as soon as people were getting done.  Nice work!

The bar didn't wow me, but the company was good.  I would probably come back when I return to NOLA.

My uptown self hasn't traversed the Marigny or even the Quarter nearly as much as I would like. However, some fellow classmates and I were stressed out-- we needed that release that only one activity in the world can fully satisfy! KARAOKE! And of course Kajun's Pub was the place to go.

They have a fancy gadget (computer) where you type-in your song selection and then you can see where you are on the waiting list (on the TV)-- IS THIS THE FUTURE?? Amazing. The people there were prettay serious about their singing, too-- no novices, here folks. Though you will get cheered on if you step up and try it! The drinks are cheap, the people are friendly, so as far as karaoke dives go, I think this is the place for me!

This is a fantastic, divey karaoke bar!  I know, I know.  What could be better than a divey karaoke bar, right?  I mean, right?  If you're not with me on this, well, maybe Kajun's isn't your kind of place, but if you are with me on this, Kajun's is a smokey little slice of heaven.

So, now let me ask you this to further make sure Kajun's a good fit for you, k?  Are you male or female?  Black or white or something else? Closer to 21 or closer to 81?  Gay or straight or something else?

Perfect!!!  You'll fit right in here.  No joke.  Kajun's, more than any other bar I have ever been to in my life (that's aplenty, folkses), is for Everyone.  Everyone who can tolerate smokey karaoke and dive splendor.  It turns out, that group comprises a huge cross-section of this great city.  And the diversity of Kajun's clientele makes for such a damn fun time, even my Republican friend enjoyed it!

Bonus = Yelp check-in gets you a free drink after you buy your first one.  Now c'mon.  Perfection, right?  *nods knowingly*

I love kajuns! Sundays are the best free live blues with greats like lil.Freddy King and Lightning Lee from 4  to 9 pm followed by karaoke. A great place to watch Saints games too(free jello shot with any saint touchdown) What I really love about kajuns is its diverity, the place if filled with blacks, whites, asians, hispanic ,young, old, rich, poor, gay, straight or transgender and Ive never seen a fight. My only bad comment is that they just changed there jello shot receipe and they are really gross now hopefully you will go back the old ones.

Shut up and listen everyone. This is my favorite bar in the world. It has everything anyone who loves to drink could possibly want. Firstly it never closes so you can do your walk of shame, back past the bar you disgraced yourself in a few hours before and wave to the bar tender who served you those last few jello shots that sent you into trashbag oblivion, letting them know that you're still alive and will probably be back the next night, or however long it takes for the shame to wash off.
Secondly the drinks are cheap, dirt cheap. A bottle of cider is only $4. Spirits are $3.
Thirdly karaoke. Not only do they have the best selection of songs I've ever seen, and the easiest to use system that you can link into from your smart phone, but these are karaoke people. No one judges. Everyone joins in on the fun. Sure, it gets a little weird about 3am but hey, it's not a bad weird.
The best thing about this bar is how entirely comfortable I felt being there. At no stage did anyone annoy me, at no stage did I feel like I was being judged (not even by some questionable early morning karaoke track choices, such a supportive crowd). This was a bar full of my kind of people, karaoke trash bags and I knew, that no matter how messy I got, I was never going to be the messiest there. If you like fun, then Kajun's is for you!

Kajun's is a fun and interesting place.

After a recent elite event, several of us headed here for the after party. While it isn't in an area I normally frequent, I had a great time and hope to come back.

Kajun's has an extensive karaoke song selection. While I was there, I unfortunately didn't drink enough to wow the crowd with my rendition of Lil Wayne's "Go DJ'. Lucky for me, I did get to hear many different types of songs, sung in many different ways, some that I didn't even know were possible. Like most karaoke themed bars, some of the singers were downright awful, but others bordered on professional singers. Regardless of who was singing, it was always fun.

Despite the moderate crowd when we went, service was friendly and prompt. I can definitely see myself returning the next time I am in the area.

That would have been the end of my review and it would have been just a three star A-OK. But then in preparation for my review, I looked on their website.

Apparently Kajun's has an internet connected jukebox where you can pay for, and play songs from your phone. Holy hell Kajun's! That is awesome. You just made my day with that bit of knowledge. Then I noticed they also use an app where I can view and pay my tab via my phone. Amazing. They definitely deserve an extra star for utilizing technology in such a cool way.

Maybe 11pm was too early to enjoy awful karaoke... maybe it was my lungs quickly filling with smoke... maybe it was the not-so-friendly bartender. I don't know, but Kajun's just wasn't my cup of tea. It could also be the location, which is nowhere near where I would normally go, but was meeting up with some friends.

Anyway, I love that they have a Yelp check in special (and this earned them the 3rd star). It's a little hole in the wall and a good place to stop in if you're in the area. However, not worth the trip if you aren't nearby, as there are about 100 bars in the city with the same atmosphere. Nothing special, but nothing horrible either.

Just an update regarding the only complaint in my first review of Kajuns: the smoke. They've since installed a couple of smoke eaters that have made the air extremely breathable for people who, like me, have sensitivities to cigarette smoke. I previously would get headaches because of the smoke if I stayed at Kajuns too long, as I am wont to do, but now I can hardly notice that people are smoking while I'm sitting inside the bar! (When I leave, it's a different story as my clothes still smell like smoke, but that's a compromise I am willing to make.) Just goes to show you how dedicated the Kajuns staff is to improving the experiences of their customers. Thank you Kajuns!

My review was a little out-dated and i got the Review of the Day the other day...so i thought i'd update it.

They got rid of the 3 sizes of beer (it was a little stupid from a service industry person's POV) and the prices have been adjusted for inflation but they still have cheap-ass beer.  For maximum cost-effectiveness i'd recommend the pitcher.

i've since ventured out into their mixed drinks a little...and those are damn cheap too.  Some of them were even surprisingly cheap (Firefly sweet tea is $4!)...and they got a pretty damn good selection too!

They have food now...which i somehow haven't eaten yet but it all looks damn good.

Their karaoke system doesn't let you browse your history anymore...which is annoying for me but it does make me search for new stuff...and it's still a better system than most places have...plus the sound and wireless mics are awesome.

i really love a good cross-section of staff and regulars...and i've partied down here enough that i've honestly started to wonder if i'm pissing them off...but i'm pretty sure i haven't because they're THAT cool (and being an "annoying customer" is totally relative.)

Honestly...it's the best karaoke bar in town and if you have even a passing interest in karaoke and you haven't been yet you really need to remedy that.

    ...just be warned:  pace yourself.

as for asking others to buy me drinks, they were a douche trying to get his friend to quit his final semester before his bachelor's at tulane to road manage his band. after siding with his friend, telling him to pursue his degree, i saw a dumbass and said. "that was a consulting fee. i normally charge a thousand dollars but tonight you may buy me a drink."

tell me if you got that on "tape."

    It's fun up in here!

A night here will include any of the following:

-karaoke (not my thing, but it's fun to watch your friends get up there and rock it)
    -drinks, cheap 'n strong
-running into your neighbors from way across town (testament to a bar's greatness- getting people away from the bars in their own hood)
-friendly greetings from the regulars sitting at the bar. They may have seen it all, but they do make you feel like you're special walking in there. I judge a good bar by its regulars.

The good thing about the karaoke is that there is no host (it's all done fair and square by computer). Seriously, there's nothing like an annoying karaoke fluffer. I don't want to see some professional singer up there hogging up every other song just to keep people there waiting and drinking. And I definitely don't need a snotty KJ. Not that they all are but once in San Fran a large group of us were banned from the karaoke list because of the KJ's control issues. Really, should karaoke be so ridden with rules and egos? I think not.

I may have left on the early side the last time I was there, but I have a strong feeling the place only gets more interesting as the night goes on.

I basically took up a residency here in my time in New Orleans - going for 3 out of my 5 nights here. Karaoke ev'ry night, and no pretense to go along with it. Any skill level of karaoke can go up here and be welcomed by the crowds. Any any sector of person too. Shout out to the regular oyster and charbroiled shells being shoved out the kitchen AKA garage next door.

Kajuns is now serving late night po-boys, wraps and salads, simple, cheap and yummy.  11pm till about 4am and all made fresh to your order.  They also have raw and charbroiled oysters late nights on Fri & Sat also 5pm on Sunday and Wed.
The po-boys are only $7, the wraps and salads are $6.  The amazing oysters fresh from the gulf are only $8 /dz raw and $10/dz charbroiled.

Of course everyone comes for the karaoke 7 nights a week starting at 9pm and ends when everyone is too drunk or tired to sing anymore, often daylight.  There are over 60,000 songs updated with the newest stuff every month.  It's all computerized for a quick and easy search for your favorites.  Wireless mics and a killer sound system make everyone sound great.

Beware of the jello shots!  They are only a dollar and will knock you on your butt!

Friendly staff, security and a safe neighborhood make this a safe place to hang out

Check out Joann, the owner, in print and music, including a new song called "Kajuns Pub" in "Nine Lives".

Yelp's own Andrea B wanted to have a UYE (unofficial yelp event) and this is where we ended up and we were treated (yes, treated, I say!) to our girl BELTING out Welcome to the Jungle.  Please do see the pic I posted, but really it doesn't do justice.

Best of all, there was a random drag queen bake sale going on & I scored an excellent apple pie.

No I wasn't brave enough to sing myself...maybe next time.

Being a native, St. Claude was the last place I expected to find such a great club, but it's an avenue that's turning around.  Seriously, a dragon (a real one not a costume) could walk into Kajun's and take turn on the stage and no one would bat an eye.

Minus 1 star for the billowing cigarette smoke.

YES.  What a great dive.  I went here two nights in a row this week because I had to have more.  After taking a break from brass across the street at the Hi-Ho (Stooges Brass Band plays every Thursday), my friend and I wandered to Kajun's to get a drink and sing a song.  We had heard they had karaoke.

The bar was pretty empty for midnight on a Thursday, but we each got a beer ($2 for a MHLife, $3.50 for a Red Stripe) and perused the karaoke song books.  Great selection.  We were surrounded by all types: gutter punks, hipsters, yuppies, old men, weave wearers, and some thugs.  An eclectic mix - and everyone getting along.

The next night, Friday, was much more crowded and still eclectic as ever.   I thoroughly enjoyed listening to all the singers, good and bad, and the bartenders and karaoke dude (didn't catch his name!) were cool.  Not grouchy.  Not too sweet.

There's a pool table, video poker, and very-good prices on beers.

Only negative is lots of cigarette smoke, and dirty bathrooms.  but it's a dive, people!  you need some nasty in your life!

I'd love to end every night at Kajun's if I could.  I might make it a tradition...

How do I begin to describe my love for Kajun's?

    1. Karaoke 7 nights a week. The people that run the karaoke are 100% awesome and the selection is pretty good. With the VERY mixed crowd of this place you get to see a pretty good show. After a few jell-o shots, just TRY to pry that mic out of my hand.Which leads me to #2.

    2. Jell-o shots. At a bar. They are $1. You can't go wrong.

    3. Pitchers of beer are $5.50. What kind of beer? I have no idea. But they're $5.50.

This place appeals to so many aspects of my personality, it's like it was made just for me. Thank you Kajun's. See you soon.

I am not a fan of karaoke, so I usually show up in this place, way late, and the karaoke is over.  I have been there when its goin on, and everyone who participates, is having a blast, so much that its seven nights a week.  so if your not into it?  show up in the early wee hours, and you can have your juke, and drinks too.

my favorite bartender in this place, is Donna.  she always takes care of us.  The doormen, nice, and the clientele is a mix of pool, or karaoke.  Like I said, I'm not a fan of karaoke, so I'm lucky that I'm good at ignoring it.  I can ignore it, because most of the folks singing?  are pretty dang good, which lends to being in a juke atmospere.  I hate listening to someone kill a song.  makes me want to throw a beer on em, and since I haven't done this yet?  I guess that means the singers don't totally suck.

the neighborhood has a couple other spots nearby, the all ways, siberia, and the hi ho.  which means there's people out and about.  but I wouldn't park too far away, if your not familiar with your surroundings.  As long as your paying attention, you should be just fine.

    FINALLY!!!

I made it out to Kajun's! I had been wanting to check this place out forever.

I used to be really big into Karaoke. Not to toot my own horn, but I might be the best you've never seen!

Me and my friends would go at least once a week, sometimes twice. And then, my favorite karaoke place close... leaving me with a void in my heart where karaoke used to be.

Then... some friends told me about Kajun's.

I'm a fan of St. Claude. Some may be afraid of hanging out in that neighborhood. I think I actually put in another review that parking in the St. Claude area can be tricky. You park and you just have to hope your car will be there when you're ready to leave, but really it's not as bad as all that.

Kajun's is a nice place as far as dive's go. The bathrooms are clean, it's spacious and they have a wide bar selection. Smoking is allowed, but it doesn't seem too smoky.

But of the best part of Kajun's is the karaoke, of course! They have an extensive selection of music. I was in karaoke HEAVEN. I took my mom with me, which turned out to be a smart decision. She had men falling all over themselves to buy us drinks. One of them had no teeth, but his money spent just fine ;)

I would recommend this to anyone looking to have a good time singing karaoke. And don't forget to invite me! I GETS DOWN with the karaoke :)

So I finally had a chance to visit Kajun's. Anyone that know me, knows I'm not a big diver (dive bar person), but I actually enjoyed Kajun's! First off it was clean! Like I didn't think I would get some bacteria issue  from sitting down. It's very spacious area and pretty nice atmosphere. Good amounts of seats and cheap drinks, seems pretty cool to me. Good music; I actually sung along to the dj's selections, so thats huge so I enjoyed.

Karaoke: Yes they have an epic list of karaoke songs! They have just about everything! Anything you can think of they probably got it. I mean they have Prince's Darling Nikki, so apparently this place is the mecca of Karaoke Land! Do not sleep on this place.

    I definitely like Kajun's!

By the way; No parking issues, easy to park is extremely important to me.

Dive Dive! This is the jam when it comes to karaoke. Friday nights it gets packed with people waiting to get on the mic and sing their hearts out. Yes, it's divey. Yes, it's super hipster scenester. Yes, the pitchers of beer are $5.50, so eventually, you won't mind the hipster scene at all.
The karaoke selection is huge, so better sign up early, get a pitcher and start drinking. The fun has been known to go on til the early hours of the morning.
I've only been to karaoke night, but I hear that there is a Wii bowling night that is pretty popular too.

Kajun's is the place to be when you want $1 drafts.  On Tuesday nights from 7-10pm they have $2 pitchers and 25 cent drafts!  Out of control.  The kids and i usually round up, get there around nine and buy a bunch of pitchers and stiff cocktails and drink for a few hours. They also have $1 jello shots that will F* your S* up!

They often have bands playing like Zydepunks, My Graveyard Jaw, The Soul Project, and the likes of other New Orleans local bands.

Within twenty minutes of being there, your eyes start stinging from all the cigarette smoke and poor circulation.  Even if you're a smoker it really burns, but i guess it's worth it.  The jukebox has got good tunes playing most of the time when there aren't bands playing.

The bartenders are an interesting bunch.  Some not so friendly, but they definitely take care of you.  And that's what's important.

They do not take credit cards, but there is an ATM that dispenses $10s, which is pretty rad.  They also have gambling game machines and three of the touch-screen games including nudie photohunt! Oh yeah, and it's open 24 hours!
