Took my nephews there for dinner on a Saturday night.  We had reservations at 6pm and showed up a little early.  We were seated right away, no problems.  The staff was friendly and helpful without being hovering or overbearing.  Our hibachi chef was very  nice and did a good job of entertaining us.
Our food tasted great and there was plenty of it!  You definitely feel like you get your money's worth here.  I had the filet with the mushroom appetizer and fried rice.  One nephew got shrimp with the chicken liver appetizer and the other got the NY Strip with the shrimp appetizer.  My husband had the NY Strip and mushrooms.  We all loved our dishes.
The cost of dinner is a bit out of our normal price range, so we won't be visitng Kazan very often.  However, it's a nice place to have a special, fun meal.

Went for Christmas dinner with our small family, 6 total including 2 small kids. Food is great and the service is good too.. we had one sushi roll, NY volcano roll it was awesome spicy and sweet at the same time. The only things that  made me not give them 5 stars, I didn't think there was enough of a show, since we had little ones it would have been nice for them to be entertained. We sat with some (regulars like daily) and i think the chef felt he didn't need to do all the tricks. My boys did love the food, i think it was the most they ever ate EVER. Also there was a up charge for fried rice and it wasn't told to us or shown on the menu so that was a bit of a show.. we love this place and go often as date night.

I stopped on a fluke and now can't wait to go back.  I had 3 different rolls and some miso soup and was so happy.  I'm a huge tuna fan and their spicy tuna was delicious.  Plus I enjoyed the tuna lovers roll!

My only issue is that I didn't order the Irish Roll but that is on my list for next time.

Are there fancier places?  Probably.  But I was impressed with the sushi, the sushi chef and my service so that will get me back in the door.

Good job.  I wish I would have brought some home!  :)

Another great sushi joint on the north side! My mom and I frequent this place because it's right between where we both live. Easy to meet up for a some sushi madness! We usually sit at the bar and order the same thing: green tea, miso soup, salad, and some rolls. My typical fancy is the unagi roll and some spicy tuna, and my mom digs anything with crab in it. We always leave happy and full, and here's why:

    - Awesome bar server - Same dude. Always cool. Not a lingerer. Bonus.
    - Freshness - Seriously, the rolls here are always fresh and full. I've never felt like I got robbed on the roll size. And I love, love, love their miso soup as well as the ginger dressing on the house salad. Delic!
    - Affordable - Really decent prices for rolls, pretty standard stuff.
    - Relaxed atmosphere - We're usually the only ones at the bar, or in the restaurant, but we like it. Kind of a divvy-feel, dim lighting inside, nothing fancy. I appreciate that.
    - Grand finale - I'm easily amused, so when we get the culinary-sliced orange, cut into fourths and stuck with a toothpick to eat, I feel like a 5-year-old who just got a balloon. It's like a free dessert, and it cleanses the palate ever so nicely!

They make my tummy happy every time, and that's good enough for me. So, if you're around 86th and Township Line, looking to score some rolls real quick, come check out the bar for some sweet sushi action!

Prices were good, Food was ok, service was a little slow.

    I prefer Ginza on W. 38th Street.

Recently went to this hibachi/sushi place when visiting the in-laws, and I wasn't expecting much from the decor on the outside. However, I was pleasantly surprised once we got to the food.

Collectively, the four of us ordered the hibachi lobster, steak, scallops and chicken. All of us were very happy with our orders, although my wife claims that the vegetables were even better than the scallops she ordered. We also shared a couple of sushi rolls and nigiri platters, all were excellent and very fresh. To top it off, the service was very friendly, food came out very fast, the wait staff was great, all in all a very pleasant dinner.

Although, whats with that one TV in the back? Looks like its from 1998!

Seems like everyone has a sushi restaurant review today...so here is a brief review of Kazan.

I had carry out, therefore, atmosphere and service can not be commented on.  Its all about the rolls.

The standout was their Volcano.  It was nothing fancy....more like a working mans Volcano Roll....so don't expect flames.  I realize there is no sushi joint that offers carryout flaming rolls.

My only gripe was one of the veggie rolls was cut so thin that it crumbled easily.

Good solid stuff....nothing fancy.  Works for me!

Just got a whim to eat late on a Wednesday night. 9:15. Where to go? Was on the NW side near the Pyramids and dodged into a strip mall to see what, if anything, was open. Saw Kazan. Went "Shazzam!"

Kazan offers a sushi bar and hibachi tables. For hibachi, think Beni Hana. Ordered some sushi while sitting at the hibachi table and it was excellent. Ordered the hibachi steak and was very impressed. All the flavors, down to the fried rice, were excellent. The steak looked beautiful when the chef put it on the grill and tasted wonderful when it came off.

They offer the usual miso soup and ginger-dressinged salad which were fine. The choice of appetizers (shrimp, mushooms or chicken liver) made a nice addition to the meal. The fresh vegetables were tender and delish.

I can't say enough nice things about this place. The service was impeccable even for so late at night. I was treated royally and greatly appreciated it.

No gluten free menu, but I didn't really expect one. Soy sauce is typically made from fermenting soybeans and wheat and then distilling it, with the remaining gluten particles being degraded. Some gluten sensitive people can tolerate soy sauce while others cannot. For me, I take along my own gf soy sauce for use at the table and I don't worry so much about the sauce they use for cooking. I might have a headache the next day, but as long as my insides don't feel like I've been trying to digest broken glass, I'm thrilled!
Back to the review: Kazan has decent sushi, but the real treat is the hibachi. The chef's really know how to entertain! Between the flaming onion volcano (opa!) and the silly egg tricks, it is a fun time. I think all hibachi food tastes about the same, but the scallops I had had a nice texture.  Service was great- there was a bit of banter between our chef and his manager which was fun and we were happy that the hibachi show started without us having to wait for the sushi.

We went to Kazan the other night, and has a great dining experience. The waitstaff were friendly, and they seated us quickly.

Most of us had the Hibachi steak and shrimp - the chef cooked it in front of us and entertained us as well. Sushi and sake rounded out the dinner for several of us. The Japanese soda was a big hit with the kids - so much so the bottles came home with us.

We had a great evening, and would go back there again!

i hope their hibachi is better than their sushi. we were craving ocean sushi, but it was closed for a private party on new year's day. kazan is just down the street and i wanted check it out any way. everything seemed... well.. boring and watered down. my ice tea was almost clear.. so was my bf's coke. the miso soup watered down too. :( the sushi rolls were expensive, small and hardly had any taste. hmm.. maybe they watered down the soy sauce and wasabi.

next time we'll make the trek over to tomo if ocean world is closed.

2.5 stars. I ordered the hibachi steak with the shrimp appetizer. Service was good but it took the restaurant over 30 minutes to get to our table. Maybe they were short handed that night but we were waiting for quite awhile. I though the food was on the salty side and steak was overcooked. This could just be the Teppanyaki chef but usually when I eat at these places it is alot less salty. The fried rice had way too much soy sauce in it, the most I have ever seen and was slightly burnt. I do have to say that the Teppanyaki chef was entertaining. He did some of the better tricks I have seen. I don't think I would come back here to eat such high sodium content food.

Stopped in after a failed attempt to eat at Daruma...and was pleasently suprised by the sushi.
Had a few veg rolls, and miso soup...the rolls were fresh, and very tastey. I sat at the sushi bar (the only one there), so was able to speak with the sushi chef a bit. He was very nice, and seemed to take great care in making the rolls. The miso was good, a bit salty, but that is a usual issue sometimes.
A glass of house cab sav, anda  green tea rounded out my meal.
Found it to be very nice all in all, definetly not too expensive, granted I cannot speak for the hibachi side of the house.
I would recommend it if you're in the area...it seems there are some more trendy places for the young hipsters to go (H2O Shushi for example), but this place was good for sure.

Good sushi, and good hibachi. Little expensive, but the presentation makes up for it. Good alternative to Benihana and Mikado.

Decided to get some sushi take out today.  I was REAALLLYYY looking forward to the sushi and trying it from a sushi place I had never been to before.  Service was wonderful, restaurant was clean.  The only good things :-( . . .   I was there at 12:30 to pick up my sushi (ell roll, salmon roll and spicy tuna roll).  There was 2 people at the sushi bar and that was it.  =  ouch!  The sushi rolls were SO small (how small you ask?), they were the circumference of a nickle  AND  they all tasted the same.

I took my son here for lunch the other day and was impressed.  We ate at the sushi bar and enjoyed tuna and salmon rolls.  We received the food quick and well prepared.  The sushi chef obviously cares about the quality of his work.  The meat portions in the rolls were generous and the presentation was good.  I would recommend this place!

Follow up:  I ate here again (with my wife this time) and we really enjoyed the sushi again.  I would still recommend this place.
