I went to this chain when it first showed up in Indy to try there "Philly Cheese Steak" and was unimpressed - I thought the sandwich was dry and had a very low amount of cheese.
I went back after all this time to try a different sandwich, this time the Steak and Cheddar. Â I had it on the "meal" for $8.25 + tax (it is amazing - almost every item on the menu is the same price). Â I had lettuce mayo and pickle slices on the sub. Â I found the meat tender, but lacking in meaty flavor and again slightly dry. Â There again was very little cheese, and what there was had little flavor. Â The fries were fine but thin cut. As a personal preference I prefer a thicker cut so they do not cool off as quickly.
The place was doing a fine business, so obviously plenty of people like their product, but I think there are a number of better sandwich options in town, so I will give this one a pass.
I've enjoyed Penn Station (East Coast Subs) for many years now and when the craving hit for a delicious lunch, I wandered over to the Pyramids for a cheesesteak sammitch and some of their outstanding fries. Â Â Advertisers throw around words like "hot" and "fresh" and "tasty" alot, but this place lives up to those choice marketing terms. Â The cheesesteak was a delicate blend of tastes - just the right balance of meat, provolone, mushrooms and a little mayo. Â As for the fries, they have been consistently great for years. Â And today was no exception. Â I recommend them with a little malt vinegar, if you are so inclined. Â
As for the service, it was a playful atmosphere and the team seemed to have a nice chemistry. Â There was some nice banter and they seemed very interested in making us feel at home in their restaurant. Â That's what I like to see in customer service. Â Greet me, make me feel comfortable and at least make it look like you are having fun. Â I've been there (at least several places like it) and I know it can be tough when you are tired or just not feeling it. Â But that's part of the theatrics of the whole thing. Â
This is a new location for Penn Station - I trust that it will be working well for them.
