I've been going to Keith's for the last ten years, I haven't had a bad meal yet. Â Any of their seafood items are a winner. Â This week ate there twice, my favorite dish is the seared scallops with Thai chili sauce...it's a tad spicy but the flavor is outstanding!
A few negatives...
1. Â Tables are VERY tight and you feel like the peeps next to you can hear your conversation. Â
2. Â Waitresses: Â I like that waitresses or waiters check on you but these ladies really push the envelope. Â I'm not sure what their deal is , maybe they want to flip tables but I always feels rushed here. Â Very annoying and I feel like it's my grandma waiting on me...people skills are not their strengths for sure.
Other than those two items...go to Keith's if you're in the Whiting, IN area..you won't be disappointed!!
Keith's is definitely a hidden gem. Every item I've ever gotten is delicious (though some is crazy-full of garlic, so you may want to avoid the seafood pasta if you have a hot date afterwards). There aren't a lot of good lunch spots in SE Chicago and NW Indiana, so this spot definitely stands out. The service is great, and the open kitchen allows you to watch the sometimes exciting (saganaki) preparation. The food is wonderfully fresh and the wine selection is completely amazing (and cheap!). You definitely can't lose with Keith's
Review Source:We were very unsure of where we might grab a bite to eat before a show at The Venue at the Horseshoe Casino. Â Did a quick search on Yelp... Â and the dart landed on Keiths!! Â DO NOT let the older neighborhood bar look on the outside fool you, the food is awesome, service was speedy and delightful and if you get a night of the chef making desserts, you will be in for a treat!! Â (maybe not if you count the treadmill afterwards)
Entering through the front door to a slightly congested bar area, which then opens up slightly to a seating area.  It is small, so if you can make reservations, do it!  Your table is dressed with a small basket of mixed breads and  then fresh roasted garlic is delivered just after you are seated.  My girlfriend had the Tuna and I had the Rack of Lamb.  Both were awesome, served with veggies, potato and choice of salad or soup.  Desert was a dark chocolate cake with warm cognac cherries (I hope I described it right).  Either way, it was SOOO demolished, there was nothing left!!!
Everything was spot on and had enough time to make it to The Venue for a show! Â This will definitely be a return visit the next time we are in the area!
Whiting, Indiana is definitely not the hub of great food but word on the street is times are changing. Â A brewpub just opened and upscale Mexican restaurant is rumored to be next. Â Â Keith's is the old school standard though. Â Â I nearly expected a relish tray when I sat down, it has that kind of vibe. Â We started with the shrimp cocktail which was the best I had ever had! Â The homemade cocktail sauce was clear your sinuses good. Â Â The house salad was great, romaine lettuce, tomato and red onion in balsamic vinaigrette. Â The other 3 at the table settled on pastas which I tried and were all phenomenal especially the pasta puttanesca. Â I went with the filet which was monstrous sized as far as filets are concerned and was cooked to perfection, which for me typically means undercooked to perfection since I prefer rare, but they got it right on the money. Â Â The key lime pie was to die for! Â Â Can't wait to return
Review Source:What can I say besides "this is what a restaurant should be like"
Best food. Period.
Smoked Shrimp is spectacular.
Filet's are tender and huge and very tasty.
They always have interesting specials.
As soon as you walk in you can smell the goodness.
We have been here so many times, and we have NEVER had a bad meal.
The staff is friendly, nice, and go out of their way to make your dinner enjoyable for you.
Everyone we have ever gone with still raves about this place.
This is the place I would go to for my last meal. Â Its that good.
One of the best restaurants in the Region.
This place is awesome. They have kind of odd hours (lunch daily - dinner only on Friday and Saturday) but I've never had a problem getting a dinner reservation the day of.
We've been there 3 or 4 times and have never been disappointed. The drinks are wonderful, the apps are tasty and every entree we've had has been cooked perfectly.
The waitstaff is knowledgeable, fast, friendly and accommodating. This is usually a spot we go when we want a grown-up night out but one night we decided to take my 7 year old daughter. I was concerned because someone said this wasn't a good place for kids, but when we arrived she was greeted as warmly as we were. They don't have a children's menu, but they were quick to offer a half order of the entree she wanted and she loved that they treated her like a grown-up.
I would recommend Keith's to anyone looking for great meal when they are in NWI.
I had a very good ribeye steak sandwich ($14) cooked medium, and it was basically like a dinner at lunch time. Â My colleague had a half slab of ribs ($15) that fell off the bones and that he really enjoyed. Â It's a place with white table cloth service. Â Quality is very good here, but it's also priced for high quality. Â It can be a little slow at lunch time, as it's a popular upscale and business lunch location in Whiting. Â I meant to try the burger today, but deferred that for another visit.
Review Source:Yum veal saltimbocca! I have also had a delicious fish dish a awhile back as well. This is a diamond in the rough of Whiting Indiana. The waitresses are seasoned, however some lack the ability to describe the dishes besides saying it is delicious. They were right but it does help me pick between a couple items. I will be back!
Review Source:OH yes, I love this place. ....Yes I do love this place. No I not only love this place im in love with this place.
-There vintage pinup girl calenders
-the color of the walls,
-the servers that at first seem like cranky little old ladies but end up being really sweet and funny girls.
-i love everything about it. Â
I came here for a small bday celebration and i was so happy we did. We shared the calamari and the grill octupus and i really wish i would have just ordered it for myself it was delicouse i was still savoring the char grilledness from the octupus the next day. It was a special so its not available all the time. For dinner i had the salmon i ordered it cajun style, it honestly was the best salmon ive ever had. they must have just gotten a shipment or something because it was so fresh and perfectly cooked. I hate/love the fact that they have these select lunch and dinner hours. But it makes them more desiralbe. And im not sure if they make there deserts in house or not but the key lime pie is so light and tangy and GOOD!
Hello
Had to give this an extra star to MY liking.
I heard a Doctor owns this place. Â It is a Doctor that knows whats good for you. Â My Blackened Mahi Mahi was accompanied with roasted Potatoes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Carrot. Â All cooked perfect.
My Lemon Chicken Soup had real strips of chicken and tasted lemony , and homemade like it should.
They make great Martinis too, just like downtown. Â Or maybe I just really needed one. Â Â Â
If your in Whiting area try it it for lunch anytime or dinner on the weekends.
Very Cozy.
I live in California (Santa Cruz area) and was in the Chicago area tending to family business and ended up at Keith's on 6/19/10. Â My brother lives down the street in Whiting and has raved about Keith's for several years. Â He was right and I was blown away!!!
I'm not exaggerating when I say the best calamari I have ever had is the calamari at Keith's. Â I live on the coast in California and I found GREAT calamari in Indiana?! Â Go figure...but it was truly outstanding. Â The Diablo Shrimp (I think that was the name) appetizer and Pasta Cabonara entree that followed were also outstanding. Â Maybe that doesn't really say it. Â The food was TERRIFIC. Â The service was excellent and the entire experience was the highlight of my weekend in the Chicago area.
I had a chance to speak to owner Scott Keith and found out the restaurant is only open for dinners Friday and Saturday. Â My condolences to locals looking for a great dining experience Sunday through Thursday. Â If you're anywhere near this place when they are open, do not miss this chance to have a remarkable/memorable dining experience.
It's a shame this great restaurant is only open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. Â I have always been impressed with my meal at Keiths. Â This is by far the best restaurant in Whiting and possibly Northwest Indiana. Â There are always great specials - entrees and appetizers. Â I am not a big fan of ribs, but when I have a taste for it, Keiths has the best. Â Better than Memphis ribs. Â Service is top notch. Â They have a full bar and a nice wine selection. Â I suggest making a reservation because seating is limited.
Review Source:I love Keith's, we go here every 1-2 months when we feel like having a nice dinner but don't want to travel far. Â The menu is fairly small but they always have specials and I almost always order from the special menu. Â Their steaks and ribs are terrific, their fish selection is always perfectly cooked and I love their seafood pasta, a tomato based pasta filled with shrimp, crab claws and mussels. Â The last two times I've been there on a weekend, there has been a long wait, I think they are taking all the overflow from the recently closed Phil Smidt's. Â So get a reservation or you may be out of luck!
It's fairly expensive for NW Indiana but the quality is high and I always go home with leftovers.
I don't get out to NW Indiana much but when I do this place is going to have to be one of my stops. This is a small bistro and the kitchen is located right as you walk in the door. This is a small place but with a very comfortable atmosphere.  The service is friendly but I do feel that I was not attended to as well as I should have been.  The cuisine leans toward Itaialin and the Fetuccine Alfredo was done perfectly. The prices are are not cheap but they are fair for the portions that you recieve  This place is just down the street from Horseshoe Casino so be sure to stop by afterward.
