Wanting to try a midwestern steakhouse while in town, I ended up here. Â The meal was OK but not worth going out of one's way for. On the surf-and-turf plate, the prime rib was adequate but not well-marbled, and even though the menu gives specific descriptions of what grades of cooking (rare to well done) mean, they still managed to overcook it.
The shrimp that came with it were terrible: small, undercooked, bland.
My family of 4 ate here on a Friday night; 2 were happy, 2 were not. First, my own story. I guess it's what I deserved for ordering seafood in a steak place, but the oysters in the oysters rockefeller appetizer were not cooked, and were salty and sandy. The server asked me why I didn't finish, but she had been so nice, I didn't want to tell her how awful it was. I also had the gulf shrimp as an entree, and was unimpressed. Only the red potoatoes on the plate were worth eating. Now the family - My son had the filet tips, which he ordered medium, but they were brought well done. We didn't send it back because he hadn't had an appetizer and was just starving! My daughter was happy with the chicken she ordered. She also loved the apple sauce., My husband loved the special, the Cowboy Steak. It was large and well cooked, not over done. I have been to this restaurant twice before and always ordered the steak and onion rings with my girlfriends, so it was really heart-breaking that Kelsey's seafood was not up to the level of their meat dishes, but I was on a diet and wanted to eat something less than 500 calories a serving! Glad however that I didn't order the lobster which was a big-ticket meal if that's the quality (and skill!) of their seafood chef. I was worried that the raw oysters were going to make me sick... but luckily, they did not.
