We went here yesterday afternoon hoping for a quick drink and just to hang out with an old friend. My husband, our friend and I walked in about 2:30PM. We sat outside because it was really nice. We were unsure if we needed to order drinks at the bar or if a server would come to us. A lady walked out and asked what we wanted. I asked for a beer list and food menu. "Ugh well we don't have beer list but I can bring you a food menu." She was so awkward when she was talking to me. So then I asked her what she had on draft and it took her a second to tell us all they had. We placed our orders and waited. She brought over the menus then our beers came out shortly after. I told her we would need a second to look over the menu and so she said she would be right back.
I was starting to starve and and afternoon beverage wasn't helping my appetite. If anything it was beginning to make me hangry. We were pretty much done with our first round when she came out to see if we wanted to order food. "Um no thanks. We're actually done can you just bring our check." She stood there for a second awkward again and confused left and then came back with our check. My husband took the check and then she just stood there waiting...um hello can we take a second to even glance at the check? He gave her his card and she closed it out.
I hear people rave about this place and saw all the positive reviews. I don't know if it was because it was a Monday afternoon but I don't care what time I go to a bar if you're open I expect some decent service. Don't make me feel bad for being there and don't make me have to guide or steer you in the direction of the service I deserve. Â Who knows if I'll ever go back. I honestly am not a fan of that side of San Antonio anyway. I just happen to be there visiting some friends and we decided we wanted a quick drink. Honestly I would say it was a big FAIL.
St. Patty's Week Irish Tour
Oh Kennedy's you're so far from my house. Sunday funday is ruled largely by their karaoke scene here. Which from the performers, these guys are die-hard regulars who I might see on the Voice one day. Â From what I've been told the owner of this bar owns Longshotz and Conroy's. The bar was slammed pack, the bartenders up to their necks in the weeds. As usual, regulars were served first and you had about a 5-10 minute wait. It happens. Now before the smoking ban this is a "quaint" bar which would mean it would look like the firefighter's training tower by the end of the night. Now they have 1 1/2 patios, a side large patio and a table in the front of the bar. I don't know if that's for patrons or for the bouncer to chill-lax at.
Come here to be entertained by the singers, be prepared to wait for your drinks.... also, only Guinness on tap. This makes the second "Irish" bar that I've been to with only one Irish born beer on tap.
Walked in for a quick bite and catch one of the football games here. It was not crowded on MNF. I noticed a blown up picture of the Steelers stadium on the wall. SAY WHAT?! Another Steeler fan bar! I ran into a fan and he told me a group of them come here to watch the game all decked out in black and yellow. There are some characters that come through here and very entertaining to over hear some conversations. There's leather couches in the bar too, to make you feel like your in a living room lol. Besides that service was nice and friendly. Not much on the menu, but your typical bar food, the chicken strips was pretty good.
Review Source:Thank goodness San Antonio is now in favor of the smoking ban. This place used to be a solid smoke cloud, but now it's more enjoyable-- I can actually see who is singing/yelling karaoke, instead of just hearing them.
I went to Kennedy's for halloween 2010 and most recently, a Saturday night. Â Halloween was fun! I loved their costume and karaoke contest. When I went on a Saturday, I paid more attention to the atmosphere, bar tenders, people, etc... I liked everything about it and would recommend this bar to anyone visiting or anyone who hasn't been here before.
Really? Â
As close as you can get to a real Irish pub in San Antonio?
If you're gonna call yourself an Irish pub shouldn't you have more than just Guinness on tap? Â Hell, Hill's and Dale's is a self proclaimed biker bar and they have about 10 drafts from the UK. Â
Shiner, Blue Moon, Stella, Dos XX and Bud Light does not an Irish Pub make. Â
True, it is a neighborhood hang out and the neighbors seemed a little bit on edge, perhaps because they can no longer smoke in there, who knows. Â
The Sunday NFL chalkboard drink specials for the day were; Bull Blasters and Star-fuckers. Â
Irish Pub? Â Really? Â
Time to Mapquest The Lion and Rose.
I've been to Kennedy's on several Sunday nights.  I can say that I've always had a great time there.  Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and there's a nice mix of all sorts of people (young, not-so-young, hip, not-so-hip and everything in  between).  Sundays are karaoke nights and there are some pretty good singers (who appear to be regulars).  There's also Buzztime trivia (which I just love to play!) and nightly happy hour specials.  You can't go wrong with the laid-back vibe here...we'll be back!
Review Source:Went there for the first time last night. Pretty cool place. Not sure if they are trying to be a british pub or what. I feel like they have a bit of an identity crisis. Still a pretty cool place that I will be back to. Very smoky, but I can handle it since I will probably be smoking a cigar next time. Cool place.
I really wish they would put some speakers on the patio though.
You know that song "I love this bar" by Toby Kieth? As obnoxious as he is, that song is perfect for Kennedys. Its Cheers mixed in with the most diverse crowd in town. Always a good time. The bartenders have been there for a while so they know everyone and what everyone drinks. Never a dull moment. Karaoke is awesome on Sundays, American Idolish I would say, everyone wants to be a star. The live music on Saturdays is the best in town. Every week there is a new band and they always rock! Good times!!!!
Review Source:This is a great laid back bar that's perfect for a big group or individual debauchery. Â Bartenders are all friendly and the drink prices are moderate. Â Bathrooms are clean & it has a small patio area in the back right of the place you can hang out in if you are an introvert.
The place is smoker friendly, so accept the fact that you will smell like an ashtray by the end of the night...but it's a bar, so deal with it. Â The location is pretty good since you are within a 3 minute drive to at least 4 other bars in close proximity.
Sunday night is karaoke night if you feel like making a fool of yourself....it's actually pretty entertaining and most people are pretty lit up by the time karaoke kicks off.
Pretty good bar with good clientele.
I absolutely love Kennedy's...it's just so comfortable and quaint. The patrons are usually quite nice and considerate, considering it's a bar and people are drinking. We always end up chatting it up and having a good time with strangers. The crowd is not snotty and is usually a good mix of ages/types.
Friday nights are $2 Dos XX, I think (maaaybe $2.50?). They have a few pool tables, which are usually always taken. A few dart boards. A sunken couch area with a small stage - I've seen karaoke (hilarious!), a live band, and even a gambling table set up there.
Nice bar staff who get to you as quickly as they can!
If you're looking for a comfy neighborhood-style pub, decently priced, and smoky, your search has come to an end.
My only gripe with Kennedy's is that it's smoky, other than that, the place is a simple bar with typical forms of bar entertainment: a jukebox, billiards, darts, an arcade game or two, and karaoke or poker depending on the night of the week. They also bring live bands in every now and again.
It boasts a good mix of people, and surprisingly a lot of regulars. You'll find them at the bar for the most part, keeping the bartender company in between drink orders.
There's a small patio outside, but nothing to write home about in San Antonio.
All in all, it's your local neighborhood hole-in-the-wall. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Kennedy's is a pretty cool place. It's kind of the neighborhood hangout, mostly regulars who seem to know each other.
I like that they have a room with pool tables and darts, a room with comfy couches and a sweet little patio so you can pick your poison at whatever comfort level you wish! Some nights you can choose your favorite jukebox tunes, other nights they'll bring in live music or a DJ. Â
It seems like each time I visit I bump into someone I know or someone I haven't seen in forever, which is always fun. Â The staff is pretty friendly - even when dealing with overindulging patrons on a late weeknight. Â
I seem to make it here after a night that started somewhere else. Â By the end of the night, the bar is usually packed and so thick with smoke you can't see far ahead of you so I would recommend the patio if you aren't interested in secondhand inhalation. Â The downside to that is (as Rhiannon noted before me) there's no music out there. Â That doesn't apply, however, Â on a live music night because you can still hear what's playing inside.
I love Kennedy's. Â There is a really good mix of people in there even though it is a pretty traditional Irish pub (about as close as it gets for San Antonio, TX that is, and yes I've been to Ireland). Â You have younger and older peeps, workers, college students, silver foxes and cougars, white, black, yellow, brown, red, green and purple people. Â Everyone has a good time and is old enough to all get along. Â Haven't seen any fights ever. Â Have seen some folks that were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasted though. Â
Ok drinks. Â Better atmosphere because I like a dive that has a little class to it. Â Good loud music when it gets late. Â Food is ehh, pretty good I guess (get drunk and it won't matter). Â I just always have fun in Kennedy's and the folks and bar staff and bar goers are all good people. Â
Lots of TV's for sports. Â They have pinball i think, pool, and darts, and a card table.
Also have an outdoors area. Â
Good fun Irish times.
Yay Kennedy's!
I've had many a good time here. I like really laid back places with the least amount of fake, snobby people. If that's your cup of tea also, Kennedy's is your place!
I love any place with a jukebox... just give me a wad of singles and a cold beer and I'm in heaven!
It gets kinda crowded and cramped and kinda smokey inside... but what good bar doesn't?? I actually prefer to sit outside, but there aren't any speakers outside (Kennedy's--- this would take you from a 4 to a 5!!!). They have live music sometimes, which is cool, and some poker deal that I don't really pay attention to-- I rather blow my money on music and booze.
It's always happy hour for me at Kennedy's.
