I grew up eating Ken's Belgian Waffles whenever we could whine our way into going out on the weekend for breakfast. Fifteen years later, I'm still doing the same exact thing! There are very few places I would rather go than Ken's for breakfast because I know they're consistent, they've been around probably as long as I've been alive, and it's not expensive. What's not to like?
If you're ever unsure about what to get, here's your simplified menu (in order of greatness):
Short stack of blueberry pancakes (The BEST pancakes!)
Western Omelette
Belgian Waffle with strawberries on top
Biscuits and gravy with a side of corned beef hash
And if you're in for a fatty treat, Â you have to get the homemade cinnamon roll with butter!
One & Done for me.
5 star  rating  on the jubilant greeting upon entering, and endless refills on Java.
But the $6.25 price for the basic 2 X 4 Â is crazy
& the only substitution for  American fries or toast is tomatoes
No Muffin
No Hotcakes
Nothing.....I know I know, who am I Â to request a substitution.
Had the Eggs Benedict here today and the Hollandaise sauce was obviously home made and to die for. The pork sausage are bigger than the usual store type and melt in your mouth delicious. The service is outstanding, couldn't ask for more, waitress stopped to ask us how things are and if we needed anything about 6 times during our meal. Ken is walking around talking to everyone and even handing out free samples of sausage and sweet rolls to those waiting for a seat...now thats the way to do it!
The place got full and emptied and got full again....sure sign of a good place...nuff said!
We went for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was full, usually a good sign. The food was ok, the breakfast sausage was so so. Pricey for what you get. The omelet was great - much better than the coney island places. The toast was also good. I'll go back again to try another meal, but really it was not exceptional and pretty average.
Review Source:If you love bacon, the buck stops here.
This place is unreal.
Definitely a greasy spoon....and the BEST ONE IN TOWN.
Hands down.
What is their secret to the bacon???!!!! It's SUPER THICK and makes your mouth water....and an order of bacon with breakfast always leaves me with about 3 ginormous pieces coming home for an afternoon snack.... PORTIONS ARE HUGE!
The service is ridiculous too. This restaurant is like a FINE OILED MACHINE....the staff works perfectly together and they CRANK everything out so fast....and it's always perfect! I have NEVER ONCE had an order incorrect, or had to look around for a waitress to pour more coffee (someone stops by literally every minute or two to top you off)....
I highly suggest if you are looking for a killer breakfast - or even lunch! - TRY THIS PLACE!!!! You won't regret it!
If you come on a weekend, be prepared to wait a bit since there are no reservations..... but no worries - you won't wait long - service is lightening fast....
Oh - and they used to be cash only. Now they accept Visa and MC.
I am reluctant to give a five star, but a 4.5 would be on the money. Â Ken's is a local staple. Â There are no better traditional omlettes in the area. Â The servings are enormous but don't rely on their enormity to get the job done, they taste incredible too! Â And, its nice to see a place where the owner is stil walking around greeting patrons and making sure the place is as it should be. Â If you're within fifteen miles of this place, get there for a good breakfast. Â Its the best.
