Oh yeah! Â I'm talking about 'the fish market' at Kona Jack's. Â Where in Indiana can you go and trust that the seafood was swimming the day before. I do here! Â The reviews that speak of over priced in the restaurant, maybe so. Â -- try buying your own and preparing it in your own home. Â Call and ask what came in that morning.
There are a couple of places that I think you can trust the fish monger's dates on seafood in the city and there are many that you can't. Â -just do the research!
FISH MARKET REVIEW: I don't know where else you can get fish like this in Indianapolis. We've purchased a whole snapper twice for our Christmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes. The prices aren't cheap, but I'd say they are reasonable for getting this quality of seafood in the Midwest. This past Christmas we also ordered a pound of sushi grade tuna. It was delicious.
There are a lot of options, and you can call ahead for a special order. We picked up on Christmas eve morning and the line was just about to the door, so it was good peace of mind to have the order in ahead of time.
A group of us went there for dinner as it was fairly close to our hotel. Â I ordered the fish and chips and it was fabulous! Â Actually, the best I've had! I could only eat half my plate, so much food for the price! 5 or 6 pieces, (couldn't remember due to liquor consumption prior, but nice thick cuts of north atlantic cod, with just the right amt of batter, not overbearing and hot. Â Great hot steak fries and plenty of em. Â Wish I had this kind of fish and chips in our area. Â New England clam chowder was excellent as well. Â sampled some sushi rolls, but wasn't as impressed but I wasn't expecting that in a seafood, Hawaiian, and sushi place to be top shelf.
Definitely would go back if I come back to this area!
Hubby and I checked this restaurant for dinner since we're new to the area and it was advertised on our hotel's Indy infomercial. I love seafood and sushi so I thought this should be good. The minute you walk in, you're reminded of some tiki bar or luau wannabe in Hawaii. We had our toddler with us and we were seated immediately. The host did not even offer a high chair.
Once seated at the sushi bar area, we waited for a good five minutes until our server came and asked for drinks. She did not offer a high chair again even of I specifically requested this via the opentable's reservation system. So, I politely asked for one.
I ordered the 4 course Northside special since they're participating in a restaurant week of some sort. They ran out of oysters  so I opted for the cocktail shrimp. It was good but nothing special. Next course was a clam chowder, and it was a big gross. Then we were offered the rosemary bread. It was hot when serves but as soon as it became cool, say after 15 minutes, it became stale and hard to eat. Then my main entree was two kinds of fish and some fried shrimp with a side of rice pilaf. They were all disgusting I barely even touched it. My server asked us if we want it boxed and I refused. She didn't ask if everything is ok an assumed for my dessert course. Now the chocolate brownie cake was gross as well.
My hubby had three kinds of their specialty sushi. The presentation was sub par. All in one plate and pretty much right next to each other. What more is that they put too much rice on the sushi. I recall having the Mexican roll and the Hoosier
Roll. They were both gross. I don't remember the third roll but then again...it's forgettable.
As for service, our server was fake. It was interesting too compare how she was very warm and friendly to the table seating right next to us but to my family...it was different. It's very short, didnt really follow up on our meal, just bad service...
I wasn't expecting this since the hotel's informercial was boasting this as an Indy institution with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Yet again, I had to remind myself that it's an informercial after all.
I started out waiting for five minutes for the server jut to bring me my water. Â I ordered it with lemon but she forgot it. Â I knew I would get a lemon with my oysters so I let it slide. Â The oysters had several bits of shell in them. Â They were not loosened from the shell. Â There was no liquid in the shells. Â They tasted good but not up to the standards of this restaurant.
For the entree, I ordered the fried scallops. Â They were very good but a little watery. Â I ordered the potato salad instead of the steak fries. Â You could tell the potato salad was homemade. Â The only problem was the server charged me an up-charge for the potato salad. Â After I pointed it out, she fixed the bill.
I wanted to use my credit card to pay for the meal but the server never came by to take it. Â She waited on other people around me, read off the specials, and brought drinks but she never came near my table to pick up my credit card. Â Luckily, I had some cash and was able to leave that on the table.
I really like this restaurant. Â I have eaten here in the past and will eat here again, just with a different server.
I was looking for FRESH seafood in Indy for an anniversary dinner. I did not want to drive downtown to Oceaniare and had heard of and seen Kona Jacks over the years and thought since they had a seafood store as well it had to be a good bet. Boy was I wrong ! First the decor, I was expecting more of a fine dinning experience not Long John Silvers on steroid's. We were seated quickly and next to a very nice large fish tank, this was the highlight of our evening. Our waitress was very nice and seemed to care, but also did not seem to be familiar with the fish specials and had to be asked to explain them. Our appetizers arrived quickly, my wife had oysters and I had calamari. My wife enjoyed her oysters and I thought the calamari was good and the portions were fair. The waitress seemed to want to rush us into ordering so after getting a rather confusing explanation of the fish specials we had decided to have the surf and turf. Our main reason for coming was to get fresh lobster and a good steak.
Well guess what, they had NO LOBSTER ! 7:00 on a Saturday night, on a BIG weekend in Indy and the waitress has to apologize for forgetting to mention that they had no lobster. Now I could understand if it was 10 or 11 at night or perhaps there was an issue with the lobster themselves. No, it appears that they allowed a walk in client on the seafood store side to buy ALL the lobster they had ! That's right someone made the GENIUS decision to sell all they had to someone off the street. I have worked in and run a restaurant and was at a complete lose for words as to how you could sell all of any product and leave your restaurant with NONE ! So we decided to go with our second option of steak and crab legs.
This is were it gets odd, you see we had the same thing the night before at OUTBACK. We thought that we would certainly get more or a better product at a SEAFOOD restaurant. Well, truth be told what we got was a bill that was $100 MORE and the food was not worth the price. The steak was a better cut, but had almost no flavor. The crab was cut open so we did not have to crack it open but it was two small legs. We did each get a cup of soup to go with our dinners but that did not make it better.I had a bland white rice as my side and my wife had a couscous that was lacking any real flavor.
Overall it was a disappointment and we will not return. Your money is better spent at Oceanaire downtown for seafood or give Outback a try, at least they charge a fair price.
Amazingly fresh seafood for this area of the midwest. Â Prices are moderate and service is good. We had fried oysters as an entree and found the to be very mild. Â Also the poached salmon was cooked perfectly. They even altered their menu to grill shrimp for us instead of frying. We will be returning.
Review Source:Kona Jack's is average. The menu is extensive and there are a lot of quality fish items, but the taste is just your average run of the mill. It is sort of "Americanized", so if you are looking for an authentic sushi experience look elsewhere. Portions, staff, and atmosphere are nice, but nothing out of this world. Still, after several visits, it is an enjoyable place to eat.
Service: 8/10
Atmosphere: 6/10
Food: 7/10
Ate here for the first time last Thursday night.  At first look, I wasn't expecting much.  I've never been a big fan of  restaurants located in shopping plaza's.  Upon entering, I was even more leery.  At 6:15 pm on a week night it wasn't crowded at all and we were seated right away.  I ordered the Crunchy Grouper.  The house salad that comes with the meal wasn't anything special so I figured I was in for an average meal.  Then came the main course.  Wow.  What a surprise.  Everything on the plate was great.  The fish was cooked perfectly and the breading was nicely done.  The green beans were very tender and fresh and the potato's were incredible. Â
So, while I'd give the place low stars for appearance and starter salad, the main dish more than made up for the poor start.
We don't make it up to the north side very often, but because I had a coupon and needed an excuse to visit The Container Store, we made the trek all the way from the south side. The food was good, as was the service, but it was a bit pricey for what we got. Â If we're going to splurge on a really nice meal out, I'm not sure this will make the cut.
Review Source:We had the occasion to visit Kona Jack's on Saturday night as part of Pre Prom festivities (as chaperones, of course). Â There were eight of us and some very strong, dare I say, foodies in our group, so expectations were high. Â Our server was very attentive and even went out of his way to take our picture after the meal, which was a nice touch. Â
As fo the meal itself, my wife and I sampled the Maryland crab cakes, which were very light and had a very nice balanced tasted. Â We also had the shrimp coctail, with a very subtle cocktail sauce. Â
I ordered the Sesame Seared Ono, which I had never tried before and found it to be light and flaky. Â The oyster sauce added a unique flavor, too. Â I had a few bites of my wife's paella, which was a special that evening. Â It had a little bit of a kick, but not enough to overpower. Â
The decor is quite fun and we had a nice time enjoying the many aquariums placed throughout the dining room. Â
All in all, I would recommend Kona Jack for a nice dinner out.
Â
I will say that we had two guests visiting from France and they were impressed with both the food and the service! Â That, in my mind, is a pretty darn good endorsement!
If something is tempura/fried, please say so in your menu. We aren't all trying to gain the hoosier hundred.
My "roll" was nothing but the taste of fried breading covered in mayo and eel sauce, nothing like the fresh fish/shell fish advertised in the menu (that I was expecting).
There are much better places in the area.
Consistently fresh fish and very generous portions at fair prices. The servers take good care of us and are nice to deal with. They take reservations for both lunch and dinner which is a must. I usually have the walleye or grouper, but I've sampled most of their choices and have not been disappointed !
Review Source:I've gone to Kona Jacks a few times. Â It is a bit too pricey for me to eat there often. Â But when I do go, it is always a treat. Â Their seafood is fantastic. Â On my most recent visit I went with my mother and a family friend. Â We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer. Â I've tried calamari from other restaurants and didn't care for it because it was very chewy. Â But I tried this calamari and instantly loved it. Â There was nothing chewy about it, it was just delicious.
The salads that came with our meals were large and fresh. Â For the entree, I ordered the bugs and pasta, which is cajun style pasta with crawfish. Â It was great. Â My mother ordered the fish and chips, which was remarkably fresh. Â (It tastes so much better than the frozen version you get at many pubs.) Â Our friend ordered the fish taco, which is actually a burrito. Â They were travelling on the next morning, so I got to eat all of the leftovers. Â I can personally attest that they were all very tasty, even when reheated.
Our server was very good and kept us well stocked on drinks. Â When I mentioned it was our friend's birthday, she brought her a free piece of lemon cake. Â
I'm not sure why some of the other Yelp reviewers were disappointed with Kona Jacks. Â Perhaps their service is inconsistent. Â As I said, I don't go there often. Â It is true that the prices are a bit high, but that is to be expected when a restaurant serves all fresh fish. Â And there are reasonable options--I believe the fish taco was around $10-$12. Â I thought I would add my positive experience to the list of reviews to give people another perspective. Â I hope you have as good of an experience as I've had!
My mother recommended Kona Jack's after gushing about the fried oyster Po' Boy she had. Â Since I'm new to Indy, I'm open to trying the restaurant scene. Â And I love Sushi. Â So we went Saturday 6/18 for an early dinner.
The decor was cute and appropriate, with ceiling-covered fish nets, huge glowing fish tanks, and the usual Tiki bar accessories. Â Something different than a bland seafood restaurant. Â I'm glad we didn't eat at Daddy's since it's more meat-focused.
Mom couldn't decide what she wanted from the vast menu selections but settled on her Oyster Po' Boy, which was a substantial tender roll cut in half with 4 fat, crispy oysters. Â They had that wonderful briney taste of fresh oysters.
I had the Dragon roll sushi and 2 Unagi sushi, which are eel broiled and sauced with soy and honey. Â Yum! Â My feet were doing the "happy dance".
We each had a cup of the seafood gumbo. Â It was thick, delicious and FILLED with shrimp, fish, andouille sausage and veggies. Â The base tasted like snapper soup. Â Another yum!!
Our server was friendly and attentive. Â She noted the specials and also explained that all the fish they serve are described in the menu.
After dinner, we checked out the selections of fresh seafood in their market. Â So many enticing options. Â The sea scallops were huge - the size of golf balls. Â The lobster tails were $45/lb, or you get about 5. Â My favorite fish is Chilean Sea Bass but at $26/lb. we passed. Â Crab cakes were large - the size of your palm - and $10/each.
We had to have some seafood gumbo to take home and bought a quart for $12. Â However, when we got home we discovered the fishmonger has mistakenly given us New England Clam Chowder. Â We had faith it would also be delicious and it was! Â Another thick, creamy base with spoonfuls of seafood and nice chunks of potato. Â More seafood than potato. Â
Another winner with that soup.
As an aside, I am from the East Coast, where fresh seafood is readily available. Â In spite of living in a "land-locked state", and being a little hesitant about eating seafood in Indy, I was impressed with Kona Jack's.
I would NEVER say Red "Slobster" has anything over KJ's (one reviewer preferred it).
For what we ate, the prices were appropriate. Â Â I can't wait to go back!
Food = 3 (it has been much better)
Price = 2 (very overpriced)
Experience = 3 (avg. service)
I've eaten here many times over the years. Â It's usually pretty good... but, somethings changed. Â The food is very average, but the worst part is the pain I felt when I saw the bill. Â $2.50 for a green tea... hot water and a tea bag.. I had to make it myself??? Â My lunch of a small salad, 7 small shrimp and a green tea = $22.00! Â Â Â Â Way out of line.
was hoping this would be the place for true Seafood quality at a FAIR price.
; chose Sesame Ono, over the Walleye; Â who knows if it could have been better? couldn't have been any worse. Â Salty, dry not properly prepared, overseasoned, to compensate for lack of freshness and disgusting price? Perhaps. Wouldn't recommend TO ANYONE. Â Certainly not any true travelers that understand freshness. Â Nothing HAWAIIN about Kona Jacks. Â I agree with the previous posters as well;
Crissy  - Mar 27, 2009 Terrible, would not go back! - for wannabe sushi -The people don't have a clue what real sushi tastes like. WORST and most expensive. our sushi rolls tasted like canned tuna - it was the best roll on the menu. If you want to eat sushi H20 in Broad Ripple, or Tegry Bistro on 86th street. ~~~~~~Rick  - Mar 12, 2009 Disappointed we did not have a good experience. Our waiter -unknowledgeable. shrimp and fish were not special...especially for$$$.
Came here today before heading over to the Children's Museum. Â I was very excited about a fish market and sushi bar.....however, i forgot that we were in Indianapolis.....there aren't any oceans nearby. Â We were a party of 6 -- 3 adults, 2 kids and an infant. Â The kids ordered off of the kids menu -- grilled cheese sandwiches ( amongst a selection of fish and chips, chicken fingers, and a burger -- all at $7 a pop which includes a drink). Â The sandwich was really generous with ginormous fries...they could have easily split a plate between the two of them (the kids are 5 and 3 yrs old). Â I just fed my infant son some fish off of my plate and i subbed in rice pilaf for an extra $1.50. Â I ordered Jack's Po Boy ($10) which was fried catfish with sauteed onions on a hoagie roll.... It was nothing spectacular. Â The pilaf was super salty.... I was glad that i brought some babyfood for my son. Â The other two in the party ordered the po boy with fries (SUPER SALTY) and the other ordered a rainbow roll...($13) The roll was covered in uni sauce (which shouldn't be on a rainbow roll) and it totally obliterated the taste of the fish.... But still...nothing spectacular. Â Our waiter was inattentive at best. Â Didn't tell us anything about the specials (normally not a big deal, but he said them to everyone around us after he took our orders). Â Never refilled our water glasses or coffee mugs...we had to wave him down several times because the kids wanted ketchup for their fries. Â We weren't bad diners...the kids were quiet and we were polite.... Â He just wasn't doing his job well. Â I would give Red Lobster a better rating because at least they're friendly and they have a changing table in their restrooms.
Review Source:One of my favorite 'want to go out, not sure what i'm in the mood for, maybe it will hit me while i'm driving', fallback standbys.
There are 3 sections to Jacks-- Apres bar in the back, Kona (seafood), and Daddy's (predominently meat/steak)-- there is some flexibility in ordering from a different kitchen but it's not super encouraged. I much prefer Apres and Kona over Daddy's. in that, if it's steak you're after, there are better places in town for that. They used to offer all-you-can-eat ribs on Saturdays though so that's quite nice...
Regular live music schedule in Apres, usually starting around 8-9. decent local talent, they mix it up pretty well. they keep the schedule current on the website.
Good & friendly bartenders, esp after they get to know you. the staff is good about advising on what's better on the menu that day. Avoid soups and pastas which tend to just taste greasy for some reason or another. Â Another side note on the waitstaff-- the men are generally more competent than the women. I don't know why and obviously my own opinion garnered from over the past 5 years.
Apres: recommend chicken parm sandwich, turkey reuben, traditional have-it-your-way burger, steak tips w mushrooms & rice. fries are steak fries. You can also get the sushi menu back there if you ask nicely.
Kona: sit up at the sushi bar-- you get better stuff interacting with the sushi guys. I'm a big fan of their appetizers-- black & blue ahi tuna, blackened scallops, kona roll, rainbow roll, hana salad. their crab is real crab- not the imitation stuff. Rolls are a way better deal than the sashimi or nigiri. They have pretty inventive rolls of the day. love their plum sauce.
Kona's fish quality has never disappointed, and you can order anything any way you like-- i.e. don't have to go with what's written on the menu. they will try their best. Â All entrees come with dinner salad, bread, and side of choice. always more than enough food, very reasonably priced. There really is no reason for Red Lobster to exist with places like Kona Jacks around.
Generally serve a more mature regular Northside crowd-- i.e. 35-60 age range, you will of course see some cougars as well as 'bored' gentlemen...
In short as a whole package I enjoy Konas much more than the big stalwarts-- Mitchells, Bonefish, Oceanaire, McCormicks. of course McCormicks has the best happy hour and Oceanaire offers an oyster bar and big ol' shellfish plater so you go for what you need/are looking for.
I've eaten at Kona Jack's a couple of times and to be honest, I wish I could give it a 2.5 stars. (Seriously, Yelp....where are the halves?!?!) Â It's not quite "Meh" and it's not quite "A-OK". Â I don't hate it, but I don't love it. Â Can you tell I'm having trouble finding my voice on this review? Â It's b/c the food was just not memorable. Â The pot stickers are good....nothing crazy good but something that I might order again. The fish taco was more like a fish burrito but was bland and unseasoned. Â It was HUGE too....not good huge, just inappropriately large. Â Unappealingly large, so I would not recommend that.
Unfortunately for me, this place does not hold a candle to it's neighbor, Daddy Jacks. Â I love that place, but this upscale neighbor is not really my style. Â
I may have to change my star rating to a 2 ....but I'm too lazy, so I'll keep it where it is.
Kona Jack's has been on my list for quite some time. Â I'm a huge fan of seafood and I was excited about this place. Â I've been to the fish market portion of Kona Jack's a few times, with each time picking up the freshest, tastiest, (and most expensive) fish I've ever purchased. Â It's worth the price for a special occasion meal.
Stepping in, I felt like I was entering a Disney ride with the kitschy ship atmosphere. Â The fish tanks were cool, with one at the end of our table which was fun to watch while we waited for our food.
We started with a few pieces of nigiri as an appetizer. Â The fish was amazingly fresh for this landlocked state. Â However, the rice was not prepared properly, it was overcooked and mushy and it lacked the vinegary rice seasoning that must go on sushi rice. Â That's like serving popcorn plain. Blech. Â I peeled the fish off the rice after the first bite and enjoyed some sashimi instead.
Both of our entrees were non-descript - my husband had the grouper and I had the ahi. Â I ordered the ahi rare. Â It came out with a thick coating of sesame seeds, which was way too overwhelming and that quantity of sesame seeds has a bad texture. Â (Think paste in mouth mixed with a little fish. Â Gross). Â As I scrapped off some of the seeds, I noticed that the bottom of the fish had not even touched a pan. Â Seared means seared on both sides. Â Someone got a little lazy, it seems like. Â The dipping sauces that came with the fish were also totally overwhelming for the fish. Â The $24 slab of fish was barely edible.
Our waitress was a bit standoffish at first but warmed up as the meal went on. Â She did tend to disappear for long jaunts but we eventually got what we needed as long as we were patient.
I'll only go back to Kona's to buy my fish and cook at home. Â This place is pricey and I'd rather keep trying other seafood places in town.
I had the sashimi combo, softshell crab roll, and another roll whose name I don't recall whose quality was just as unmemorable.
The softshell crab roll was way too salty. Note to management: Hold off on the salt as that's why you haev soy sauce on the dining tables.
The sashimi was average. It's difficult to mess up the preparation of sashimi unless the fish is not fresh.
I was there for a business dinner. If you want real sushi, go to Sakura or Ichiban. But both of those are less convenient for larger corporate events, which usually trade off food quality for "atmosphere".
Ordered the following: Â Cup of Seafood Gumbo, Salmon Sashimi, and Grilled Catfish.
Prices were reasonable: Â $2.50 for gumbo, $7 for salmon sashimi, $10 for the catfish.
The service was good until the end when I needed the bill. Even after I was presented with the bill, it took a while before the waitress returned for my AMEX.
The gumbo was pretty good, except I thought it was bit too tomatoey. But what do I know? Â I ain't a Cajun. Overall, tasted pretty good with large chunks of sausage and fish. And it's a bargain at $2.50.
I saw a bunch of white people and one black guy by the seafood/fish counter so I definitely was not going to order sushi. So I stayed safe and got an order of salmon sashimi. The salmon was definitely fresh and tasted great, but the portion was pretty tiny. It did some with small scoop of rice, and other small cuts of fresh veggie, but when I order sashimi, I care more about the fish then the accompaniments. Â
The catfish was grilled perfectly but tasted bland. I'd rather have things bland than salty since I can always add salt, but I wished it was seasoned at least a little bit. Â I wish there was also more blackened or charred taste to it. I'd say it was above average.
Overall, I wasn't disappointed since it was fairly affordable and it was super close to work.
Haven't tried the sushi, so I can't comment there, but the seafood is very good. Â Prices are higher than average, but not outrageous. Â
last time the wife and I ate there the tab came to $100 for 4 drinks, appetizer, 2 main courses, and tip...Hmmm actually not bad at all.
My wife had stuffed shrimp, not bad, but not good. Grade C
I had the Chilean Sea Bass. Â The fish was tasty and cooked just right, but the sauce they served with it was a wee bit too much for delicate flavor of the fish. Â Grade B+
We shared the crab cakes for an appetizer and, well, you can't get any better in the Midwest. Â I mean moist, well seasoned, cooked just right. Â And the sauce, damn, it just doesn't get any better. Â My wife has declared her intention to order 2 crab cake appetizers next time we go there and make that her main meal, and I can't say that I blame her.
Grade A
Oh, and the drinks? Â She had a couple of Blue Hawaiians, Â I had a couple of Mojitos. Â Both were the best we've had in Indy. Â Grade A
The Decor... B+, would have done better except for the fact it's in a strip mall.
The best seafood I've had in Indy.
Kona Jack's - ah, it's like walking into a Jimmy Buffet song. Fishing nets and fish line the walls and ceilings, fish tanks galore and a unique mix of young diners and 50+ singles and couples who you can tell frequent the place (like my parents, who know names of the bartenders and waitstaff).
I only go here with my parents. It's a bit out of my price range and out of the way, but, when they declare seafood, I'm always game.
The seafood is fresh, and the staff is honest about what's in season, what's worth trying, and what isn't. We usually sit at the bar, where a nice bunch of guys take care of us and provide a welcoming environment. They also offer outdoor dining during warmer months, lining the strip mall sidewalk with tables.
The nice thing about the seafood is that you can order your food one of many ways - from diablo (spicy spicy spicy) to herb crusted, fried or pan seared (10 or so options). So if you're feeling healthy, great, and if you're feeling greasy, go for it. Portions are just right, and fresh veggies always come with, and a salad. Â They also have a nice seafood, steak and shellfish menu.
Yes, they have sushi. It's sushi made by non-Asian chefs, which always makes me question what the hell is going on. Sorry guys, but, it's like how an Elvis impersonator isn't as good as the real Elvis.
But, it's just "ok." I would advise one of the million other places for sushi, but, if you need a quick fix or an appetizer, you can live. I've had smoked salmon nigiri which was fresh and quite tasty, shrimp tempura which had two gross sauces and I've also tried their tempura with tempura sauce which tasted like alcohol, it wasn't too good. I haven't eaten other sushi menu items, but, I've seen them come out and the sizes weren't mind blowing. If you're a snob, you probably won't be impressed.
Booze wise their wine list is slowly getting updated. They've had a lot of the same choices for years, and it seems the owner doesn't really want to venture out much. They do serve half bottles, and people seem to really enjoy the martinis here (I see a lot get made at the bar!). They have a few mediocre beers on tap as well.
But yes, stick to the seafood menu, enjoy the great steaks at Daddy Jack's, and enjoy the tacky sea-faring decor and you'll enjoy yourself.
4 stars on the decor (love the salt water fish tanks). 1 star for the sushi. seriously, this has got to be the worst place to have sushi. the rolls were tiny and not even rolled properly. the rolls would just fall apart when you picked them up. and i was shocked at the price.. our bill for drinks (ice tea, coke), miso soup, and 4 rolls was $78.
from reading the other reviews it looks like we should have just stuck to the man seafood menu. but i think it will be a while before i even try kona jack's again (if ever). very disappointing.
Kona Jack's is about as good as it gets for seafood in Indy. Located on the northside on Meridian near 96th Street, Kona's has a great atmosphere and serves up delicious fresh seafood and sushi. There is a full bar, as well, and this is one of the nicer places in the area for a great meal, with an atmosphere that is relatively casual.
Sit at the bar and ask for Mike (tell him I sent you) and grub on some delicious food while you sip a beer or cocktail. Look for me to be up there sitting at the bar watching Monday Night Football this year. I don't usually have a regular spot outside of DJing, but I'm thinking about adding that to the calendar this season. Who wants to start an alt-MNF night at Kona Jack's?
There is always a shifting of the menu, depending on what's being caught, etc. Most eveyrything on the menu is great, so give something different a shot.
This is my favorite restaurant on the north side. It has a great atmosphere, excellent service, and even better seafood. I would recommend this place to anyone and I frequently do. Besides fresh seafood, they also have a sushi bar and a lounge called Daddy Jack's. In the summer, you can enjoy outdoor seating and they make great cocktails!
