I came to K&T because I've heard so many good things about the bahn mi sandwiches here.

It's a real hole-in-the-wall that you might miss if you blink.   So don't blink.

The inside is in a word - nondescript.   Very basic deli counter and a few dingy tables and chairs.   But you come here for the food, not the decor.   The basic pork banh mi was excellent.   Very fresh vegetables and flavorful pork.   The bread was toasted perfectly and provided just the right amount of crunch.

Next time I will try their pho as staring at the pictures on the wall while waiting for my banh mi made me salivate.

Dropped by while looking for a new go to place for pho. Their pho was tasty, I wanted to try something else but their menu is confusing and the person attending me behind the counter was too busy to tend to my questions.

Would I return? Sure.. but not on the regular.

Back again for the Pho Bo.  Best I've had in Indy.  Or anywhere?  Well, I haven't graced Vietnam with my presence so I have no room to judge.  Service is great if it's not busy.  Why do I enjoy being the only white person in a restaurant?  Cause it's fun!

Give it a try.  They open at 9:30 am on most days...pho for breakfast y'all???

My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Indianapolis, in part because it's quick and inexpensive.

Very small, only a half dozen tables.

Have had six or more different pho, all were delicious; I expected "rice paddy crab" to be crab, not crab dumpling things, but I don't know enough to know if that's standard.

Smoothie flavors include avocado, durian, soursop.

The only real complaint is that the parking lot is, like the restaurant, small, and it's really only accessible when going southbound (or when you get really, really lucky and can take what may be an illegal left turn into the lot if headed north).

I have only been here in Indy for a little over a month. Moving from California I started to miss all the awesome food that I enjoyed at home. Banh bao and banh mi were a few of it!!! Banh bao was freaken delicious and the banh mi isn't far behind comparing it to the authentic sandwiches I get back home in california. I just finished eating them both and am already craving for more!!!

True to their name, this place is definitely a deli.  Ordered banh mi thit (vietnamese grilled sandwich), everything was made right in front of you - fresh and fast.  Still hungry, I ordered pho tai.  Like I said before, this place is true to its name - K&T DELI.  The pho tai were unflavored even when adding hoisin sauce & thai basil leaves into the pho broth mixture.  Friendly services by the cooks.  Flat screen tv hung in the corner, so you can catch a glimpse of Spongebob or some sort of Disney shows in the background - depending on the time of the day.  Vietnamese sandwiches are great & cheap for students or workers during lunch break.  Definitely must come back again.

My experience here was good, but I wish the menu was a little (okay, a lot) more clear. I had no idea what the difference was between any of the bowls of pho were or how much they cost. I also had no way of knowing what all was on the sandwiches.   Previous reviewers have mentioned that the staff speaks some English, but this was not my experience with the lady who was working when I was there.

That said, I really liked the pork belly bahn mi.  It's the number 4 on the menu, I believe. I  thought the bread was amazing and the ingredients tasted very fresh.   The strawberry smoothie was good but I was not into the bubbles. No big though, next time I will just order without them.  I saw someone get the avocado smoothie and it looked to die for.  Definitely trying that next time.

I will be back when it's not 100 degrees out to try the pho, and I would like to try the bahn mi no.1 if I can ever find out what the hell is on it. I also have read talk of fresh spring rolls on here but didn't see them on the menu. Do I just have to inquire about them or what? Kinda hard to do with such a language barrier between us.

Yummy!  The deli is small, clean and welcoming. The staff speaks both Vietnamese & English and are welcoming and friendly. The ingredients seemed fresher than many other similar places. The sandwiches are made with crusty baguettes & freshly-chopped veggies. We had the thit nuong which was quite flavorful. My mom had banh cuon, which was handmade. We were too full for smoothies, but they're made to order with fresh fruit & you can add boba (tapioca pearls). We will def be back to try more dishes!

Amazingly tasty Bahn Mi.  The bread is really good french bread, the fixins are tasty, and the pork in the #1 sandwich rocks.  All for $3.50.  The fresh spring roll was also really good.

I have been here 3 times this week...I love it! Vietnamese sandwiches are amazing and this is the only place in town I know of to purchase them! However the best thing I think is the five spice packed fried rice...

Bahn mi for $3.50, a variety of pho, interesting smoothies & drinks. Not much on atmosphere, but hey - it's a deli - they aren't advertising a restaurant experience. Food is delicious and a good value. Another great destination in the Lafayette Square ethnic food district.

On the way to Florida for Spring Break and pulled over for tire trouble and gas. Saw K&T Deli and took a chance. The family ordered 3 bowls of combination Pho and smoothies. It is better than the Pho places in the Northern Chicago suburbs. Kids liked it a lot! That's always a good indicator.
Folks were friendly and were very nice to the kids while we were leaving. Great soup after 4 hours of driving... 15 more to go!
Now we have a good place to stop on future road trips to Florida. -CK

What are you?  A restaurant, a deli, a carryout place? I am just not sure what they are trying to be here. There are  a couple of tables and chairs that are scattered around. It was in the upper 90's outside when we went and I think it was even hotter inside the restaurant. They had one fan on that was blowing towards the front door not circulating any air whatsoever. The Large TV was on blaring some type of Asian Drama or something.

No one hated their meal, but honestly there is better Viet food up and down that street for the same price or lower. And the menu is a little confusing, some things are on the menu and some are not, so unless you can speak Vietnamese you pretty much have to stick to what you see on the big board. The Smoothies are good though.

I just dont know how long they can stay open with so many other better Vietnamese restaurants in the area, try it for yourself though!!

    Stop, stop, stop . . .

. . . whatever you are doing and go here now.

Finally! A decent . . . dare I say it . . . good place to get banh mi. I ordered the #1, 6, and 8.  The Viet french bread is excellent; super crusty on the outside and airy on the inside.  I was a little wary because I didn't see them toast my sandwich (I don't think they did), but I knew why when I bit into my bread.  Bread crust flew everywhere.  If  I had a cat, it would have lost both of its eyes.

The sandwich experience was great.  The meat was tasty, the pickled veggies were crunchy, the cilantro sprig was fresh, and the jalapeños were spicy, although I wish it was a spear instead of the slices.  I blame you tender, midwest palates. The sauce was different than what I am used to, but good different. It went well with the sandwiches.  And, it might have been me, but is there a different sauce for each sandwich?  The size of the sandwich is a little smaller than what you would normally get in Houston or California.  If you are a big eater get two, or one and an order of spring rolls. (Also good).

As an added bonus, they have the best bubble milk tea in the Indy area, including Bloomington.  The milk tea Vietnamese style, very strong with a super sweet counterpoint.  I prefer larger tapioca balls, but they did a really good job of making their smaller ones very chewy and bouncy.  Also, they don't do any of that weird stuff that other milk tea makers in Indy do.  C'mon guys, its pearls, milk tea, ice, and seal.  (Shake if you want). Thats it! I was going to make a list of places to get milk tea in Indy, but just go here.

They offer additional items.  They also had Viet noodle dishes which I will try next.  They also have stuff for non-adventurous people so you can bring "those" friends. As Marie Antoinette said, "Let them eat a ham sandwich."  I'm 120% sure that is the quote.

I usually go to place at least 3 times before making a decision, end even then I don't bother if other people have already posted reviews I agree with, but I had to make an exception here. I couldn't decide between a 4.9 rating or a 5.

Please K&T deli, be consistent. Please Indy, do not let this place go out of business.

P.S.  I just googled the place next door.  HAHA!  What is it? Hint: It fulfills one of the other vital needs of life besides food.

Consider the Vietnamese. What's the first thing that comes to mind? There's a very good chance that because of their willingness to welcome us to their dinner table that they've changed your perception entirely. There was a time where "war torn nation that helped catapult America into two decades (if not more) of unrest," was the leading charge and definition of Vietnam. We're moving further and further away from that era. We're moving to a place where when we here "Vietnamese" the first thoughts that *bubble* to the top are on food: from pho to bubble tea to banh mi to those hard-working, kind smiles we find when we enter a Vietnamese store front.

The spirit of Vietnamese business owners have finally -- over the past handful of years -- really shined in Indy. I found my kinship with their craft sandies -- the banh mi -- by traveling on a budget in America. Downtown San Francisco, fringes of San Jose and San Bernadino to Denver to Indy... there was always somewhere to eat a remarkable sandwich for $4 or less. And now with K&T there is a place to eat $3.50 banh mi -- and there's an entire sandwich board of them: 10 choices (including a vegetarian option).

With its spartan setting of scattered tables, Viet action movies on TV running roughshod on your ears, a deli counter and a simple menu of what you need -- banh mi and vietnamese coffee -- I feel right at home.
And then... they have a full Viet menu, including pho. Then, I look over and they have American staples... of sub sandwiches and fried okra.

Don't let those bizarrely placed choices steer you away from the classic french roll of pork pate, jalapenos, carrots, onions cilantro and *insert meat of choice.* For me, pork belly is where the journey begins (and ends).

The warmness of that pork belly. The warmness of an exchange of what yelper Benjamin H would call: "I give them money, they give me [insert smile-inducing item]." The warmness of the thought that here I am in our -- Indy's -- "Little U.N." ordering banh mi. The warmness of a peaceful marketplace. The warmness of how vital this exchange is to us as a community, as a culture. The warmness has me all warm & fuzzy & bright-eyed & in love with this city. Something's going on here. (This is that moment just after the bridge in a song where the bar raises; or that moment in the movie where everything comes together and the music crescendos. So turn it up). This is a remarkable redefining of how we look at a culture once burdened with the past. For the future, the Vietnamese Community, the City of Indianapolis, you have unleashed a new sense of peace via the banh mi. With that there is only one thing to do... let's have another banh mi, Bon ami.

Decent Vietnamese-style sandwiches, but very slow service.  Came in the other day to order the sandwiches to-go.  It took at least twenty minutes to get four simple sandwiches (from ordering to payment).

I would recommend #1-the special and #9-meatball.  The bread toasted is absolutely delicious.  I was bit disappointed we received a tiny bag of veggie sans sliced cucumbers, which are a must for banh mi.  Maybe it's because I eat a lot, but I find a person would need two sandwiches to be satisfied.

Don't get the fruit smoothies, they're bland and the bubbles are too soft/mushy.

At least there's a Vietnamese deli in Indy now.

I called to see if they had a website or could fax me the menu and the answer was no to all of the above.  I drove down there to check it out.  Almost everything on the menu looked good so I ordered the Roast Beef with Blue Cheese on cibbatta bread, breaded zuchinni, hush puppies and an Avacado smoothie.  The portion of meat was small on the sandwich and I expected melted blue cheese crumbles, instead I got a packet of blue cheese dressing squirted on it.  They were out of hush puppies, the zuchinni was  bought at a store and tasted freezer burnt.  The smoothie and service was really good though.  I also ordered a meatball sub to go for a co-worker and was informed that they were out of provalone so she had to have an italian meatball sub with swiss.  Not to mention that the meatballs were cold and came out of a bucket.  I am sorry but I would not venture back unless it was for one of the Avacado smoothies or freshly made tea that they let me sample.  Once again, very nice people but the food was sub-par at best.

Oh My Gosh! This Vietnamese deli is so good! And if you have a family member that isn't into ethnic food there are also standard deli sandwiches.
I had a pennywort drink which reminds me of wheatgrass, but much yummier and refreshing. We also had a seafood soup with rice noodles, light yet very filling.
All of it is very affordable, subs for $3.50, tacos, breakfast food; like eggs and oatmeal as well. You would really be missing out though if you skip over the entree menu.
I will be back again....and again.

Recently opened Vietnamese spot to deliver more choices of Vietnamese cuisine on top of the popular King Wok & Saigon in the Indianapolis metro area. Location is fairly close to Saigon & King Wok near the cross walk of 38th street & Lafayette Rd. The place is named "deli" but they do serve pho and other rice dishes similar to typical Vietnamese restaurant. In addition to typical dishes, they also have the Vietnamese sandwiches, boba, and some creative drinks.

We ordered summer spring roll, #1 of Vietnamese sandwich, #10 of Pho in the menu, #30 of pho in the menu. Among 6 friends, all of us liked the pho a lot as it has great flavors in the broth and a lot ingredients. #10 has a bit of sour taste (kind of like Tum Yum soup) and sweetness on top of the beef broth. Summer spring roll has great smoky flavors with the bacon inside. #1 of Vietnamese sandwich is definitely recommend since not many places in Indy serves Vietnamese sandwich. Boba is recommend as well!
