Great menu.  I chose fish tacos.  The fish was a little bland and could use some lemon and cilantro.  I will be back to try more off the menu.

The food was good but our waiter was a bit slow with the service. I ordered the fish tacos and they came with a good amount of tilapia.

While my husband and I are frequent customers, today I experienced a problem that I constantly have with La Caretta.  It bothered me so much that I felt it was necessary to finally give them a review. The problem with La Caretta is CONSISTENCY! There is none.  I ordered a quesadilla to go and the quality and consistency was awful, and you can tell that the consistency issues stem from laziness of the cooking staff.  My quesadilla had almost no cheese inside, therefore there was nothing for the steak and veggies to stick to and the filling was falling out all over the place.  My quesadilla was also only grilled on one side (normally they flip it and grill both sides), therefore the bottom of my quesadilla was flimsy and falling away from the top tortilla, causing even more filling to fall out all over the place. It was hardly grilled on the side that appeared to have been grilled.  My husband ordered the Tacos de Barbacoa and he was given the Tacos al Pastor.  Usually the guacamole is tremendous, today it was under seasoned and bland.  It is lack of attention to little details that kills this place sometimes. It is very frustrating because when they get it right, the food is awesome.  I have not been to the mexican restraunt La Mesa that is across the street from La Caretta in almost a year because we prefer La Caretta more, but now I know I will start going back to La Mesa becuase these types of issues are becoming more and more frequent. We went on lunch time too and there was only two other couples in there, so it was not due to being busy. A few months ago I would have easily rated a 5/5.  Consistency and quality is gone now.

I have been here several times with the the most recent time being last week. I ordered chicken echiladas and my mom ordered seafood enchiladas. The waiter was rude and quick to get us in and out. The seafood (baby shrimp and fake crabmwat) was bad. The crabmeat had a fishy taste it. The best part were the chips and salasa and they werent even that great. This place is not like it used to be. No wonder it was almost empty when we went. I wont go back...at least for a very long time.

Quick service, tasty salsa. Good eating at decent price.

Based on Brian H.'s review, the wife and I decided to check this place out.  Business was light on a Sunday night so we were seated immediately.  The chips and salsa were excellent.  The chips were warm and fresh and the salsa tasted homemade and authentic.  I ordered the tacos al pastor.  The pork was tender and marinated well and the pineapple chunks really made the dish.  The wife ordered the seafood enchiladas.  Although it was tasty, it was heavy on imitation crab and light on shrimp.

I asked for some jalapenos and received three grilled jalapeno peppers.  They were great.  However, I was a bit surprised that they charged us $2 for the peppers as they weren't on the menu and the waiter did not inform me we would be charged.  Oh well, now I know.

Anyway, I'll be back if I have a craving for Mexican food.

We have yet to find a Mexican restaurant nearby that we love.  We had high hopes for this place, but it hasn't been consistent on the quality.
A couple of months ago we went there.  I ordered the chimichanga.  While it did not resemble anything frozen, it wasn't anything to rave about either.  The inside was filler - beans and rice.  The sauce was odd...  It tasted like chicken bouillon.  I would definitely recommend against that plate to everyone.
Other than that, the service is decent, the price is cheapish, and the chips and salsa are good.  I would recommend La Fonda in KC, MO or a long haul to Carlos O'Kelly's in Lawrence before coming here though.

Ate here recently on a Friday evening. Hostess was cheerful and friendly and we were quickly sat. I wish I could say the same about our server. Unfriendly, slow and no where to be seen. Our food was decent  and portions are large. Chips and salsa are good too. Our steak on our fajitas did not have much flavor . If you in the area try La Mesa about a mile north they have better food and service in my opinion.

By far the best Mexican food in town.  This restraunt is very well priced and has some of the best service in town.  I recommend this restraunt to anyone looking for good food, nice atmosphere and good pricing.

We visited La Carreta on a hot Saturday afternoon after having heard many good things about it's sister location in Gardner. It didn't disappoint. What a great surprise to find delicious Mexican food in Lansing ... in a strip mall.

Then interior of La Carreta is simple, bright and very clean. The decor is appropriate, but not over the top "Mexican restaurant." The chips are fresh and served with a very tasty mild salsa. We had heard that, if you ask, they had a hot salsa as well. If you like spice, you should definitely ask for it. They have several beers on tap plus a large variety of mixed drinks and specialty margaritas.

The food at La Carreta was very good, on par with anything I've had anywhere on SW Blvd. in KC. Everything was fresh and prepared well. The pork tacos de barbacoa I had hit the spot and went well with my cold schooner of Dos Equis Amber.

All in all, a great experience with well done food and drinks. If you're in the Lansing area, La Carreta with worth the stop.

Yum! I am glad we drove more or less out of our way to try La Carreta. It was worth it.  If you aren't looking for it you may miss it.  It is behind Burger King, Popeyes and Arby's.

Ok...the drinks and food. They have Dos Equis Amber on tap...heck yeah! The schooner size is reasonably priced $4.75.  The salsa (mild) had a lot of flavor and for mild was exceptionally tasty. I asked if they had a hotter salsa.  They do and it delivered!  It was full of flavored heat.

I order the Tampiqueña which is skirt steak grilled with onions and peppers, served with beans and rice. The version is a little different from what I have had before at another restaurant.  I was impressed with the quality of the steak (fork tender) and the amazing smoky chipotle seasoning.  The portion was huge and I had plenty to take home.

The restaurant is bright and warm with friendly, attentive servers. I commented about the cleanliness of the restaurant itself and the restrooms are too.

La Carreta is definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to in a long time.  I am in the area about once a month or so and I will be back.

First time there... besides the car show going on in the parking lot, the experience was fantastic!  Food good... chips & salsa awesome!  We live in the Piper area and have been waiting for a mexican food restaurant in the Legends area... I guess that's never going to happy... so we drove to Lansing... GREAT CHOICE!  YUMMY-O We'll be back.

Great cheese dip. It has spinach in it and is perfectly seasoned. I had a burrito, enchilada, taco combo platter. The taco meat that was used was very spicy... not my favorite. Of course spicy is usually a good thing for most people when they consider Mexican cuisine. So I can see this place doing well. Decor was okay, staff was friendly...did notice a bit of a language barrier with my waiter and the person that brought the salsa/chips...but nothing major. Staff was friendly. Restaurant seemed clean.
