I kept hearing about La Marina and how it was such a new hot spot, so decided to get some friends together for a pre 4th of July night out. Â After reading the reviews on here I really wasnt expecting much and I have to say, the reviews are generous.
We got there early at about 5pm for happy hour, which apparently didnt exist when we got there. Â They wouldnt honor the happy hour pricing that was on their website. Â The view is definitely nice, I will say that, but other than that I really wouldnt go back. Â The waitressess didnt know anything about the cocktail menu, barely knew where the bathrooms were, and seemed all in all very lazy to me. On the plus side, the drinks were NOT watered down.
Our dinner reservations were at 8p and we were seated promptly which was good. Â We ordered from the pre fixe menu. Â The food was mediocre at best. Â We appetizers served family style.... bland. Ceasar salad was brought out with full slices of anchovies, not chopped up tiny as is traditional ceasar dressing, it made the salad taste extremely fishy so no one ate it. Â Our group was 8 and it was unanimous that he food was bland. Â Service was ok, couldve been better, couldve been worse. Â At one point the waiter told us he had to go pee and thats why we wouldnt see him for a few minutes. Â REALLY? Â That was just a little TMI. Â I hope he washed his hands. Â Dessert was also brought out family style and the Tres Leches was the best one, but thats really not saying much. Â Tres Leches is a very moist/wet cake made with 3 milks, its suppose to be wet, yet it was served as a muffin... a DRY muffin.
I'm glad I tried it, but other than the view I see NO reason why this place has all the hype. Â I wouldnt go back.
So... were it not for the gorgeous venue, and great view, I probably would give this place two stars. I really, really, really wanted to love it. My boyfriend and I went to have an early dinner (around 5:30), and the place was mostly empty at that hour. We were told that we had to sit at the bar if we wanted to order food. We were disappointed, as we had hoped to enjoy the view from the open air seating area (we were also ordering cocktails, but were told that that area was for cocktail service only, and not food.) Why would a restaurant's policy treat a customer that wants to purchase more than just cocktails less attentively than someone wandering in for just a drink? Backwards. The food itself was mediocre. We had a chicken caesar salad (chicken was *way* overcooked and leathery, and calamari (which was ok), both ordered by the bartender. After our food came out, no one approached us to see if things were satisfactory, or to ask if we'd like to order another cocktail. I understand that this place has become more of a nightclub scene, which is kind of a shame. For a place with such an upscale vibe, the service and food were pretty terrible. I hope that some changes are made. We'd go back for a drink and to enjoy the view, but never again to eat.
Review Source:I call it "faux chic." Â The setting is simply gorgeous on a warm summer night. Â Unfortunately, that's the one thing La Marina DIDN'T have anything to do with. Â The food is overpriced and just not very good. Â The outdoor music is too loud to carry on any semblance of a conversation. Â The drinks are unmemorable. Â I won't ever go back which is too bad because the view down the Hudson at night really is wonderful.
Review Source:Ok so this a 2 part review and the 3 stars is for the 2nd portion.
THE BAD - Â lets start with restaurant, which I will say right off the bat, SKIP IT!
While the scenery is beautiful and seems like the perfect setting to celebrate a birthday or take a first date the service and food will disappoint.
The food is sooooo overrated! We were seated and put our orders in within 15 minutes of being seated and did not see a waitress or food for an hour and 20 minutes. Then when the food arrived 3 of our orders were wrong. (I will say that the best items on the menu were the chicken Lollipops and the calamari.)
Our waitress was not helpful at all and after asking to speak with a manager several times we finally spoke to someone who was accommodating and explained to us the problem and comped 3 of the meals that were wrong. Needless to say, when you have a major back-up in your kitchen, management and staff should be communicating to its guests so you don't end up with a restaurant full of hungry, aggravated, unhappy people.

THE GOOD - The scenery is BEAUTIFUL! From the restaurant decor and design to the outside lounge, bar, and sand area your surroundings are sure to please.
The drinks are great, I had two Uptowns which was a Patron, with muddled lime, simple syrup and splash and cranberry and it was basically Patron on the rocks, which is my kind of drink :)
The DJ was ok, played your basic mixed set.
The ppl were beautiful and whatever your choice of dress you will fit in just fine.
Overall I will come back for the bar and dancing but the restaurant was a big Fail tha I will prob never give another chance
I'm a fan so far, I was skeptical after reading all the reviews, but I have to say that I had a good impression.
I came here with some friends on a Wednesday right on time for the happy hour. $5 beer-wine
The food was okay nothing really special, the service was good.
Â
Amazing view and nice atmosphere.
I'll deff come back.
The Voice.
It's a nice view, but a total rip off. $8 for 12 oz of Pacifico? Not even a whole pint? Not even served in a glass?
I did the math and each 12 oz beer costs them $0.92 (if you get the keg at retail price from BevMo, but I'm sure they get a wholesale discount). Sorry, but for mediocre service of a plastic-cup of beer in Inwood? That mark up is ridiculous, even for Manhattan. The crowd wasn't particularly gorgeous, the service wasn't especially friendly, and there were two competing stereosystems, which created an odd and uneasy ambiance. Nothing to justify the hefty price point except a view of the polluted Hudson and a bunch of scantily clad Latin women in heels, if you're into that. We left after the first beer.
maybe it's cool as a "club" at night but I doubt it. Not my scene, anyway. (we were there Sat at 4 pm)
Not sure. Want to give it 2 1/2 stars.. Been hearing about this place for a month now wanted to check it out on a Saturday late afternoon/ sunset for my upcoming bday party.. Pros- the view is spectacular right on the Hudson so you get an amazing view of the GW bridge the Palisades gorgeous
Food is ok... And was expecting prices to be much higher... I know it's Washington Heights but you are still in Manhattan and you are paying for the view.
Our waiter was nice honest and attentive although he was very rushed over worked, they obviously were understaffed.
Major major major CONS-
The music was electronic  trance music on a loop... OMG worst music ever and it didn't stop it continued on and on.
The Crowd which by the way did not seem like they were into electronic trance music
Crowd was mostly 18-21 years old going to a beach party they had .. It was like a really ghetto bad version of a Vegas day pool party.
And the bathroom looked like a circus....
When we first got there I had explained I was there to see the place because I had booked a table for the following Saturday. Â As we were leaving I stopped at the hostess desk to ask if the music was that bad all the time... The manager guy who was not too nice said he couldn't tell me about the music for next week then asked what happened I didn't like the music playing... Of course I told him how awful it was.
The hostess came back and I wanted to ask about bringing my cake which she said was a charge of $3 per person... And then couldn't even find my reservation for next week. Â Â Needless to say my whole bday venue is changing as we speak.
Poor management!  Bouncers were asses! Telling us to move as we are leaving just looking around  after spending money.
A 3-star bar with a 5-star location. So I'll average it out to 4 stars.
My boyfriend and I went hiking around Inwood Hill Park (after years of living in Washington Heights, neither of us had been - worth it!) and were sweaty messes by the time we emerged onto Dyckman Street.
So you can imagine what a delightful mirage La Marina appeared to be to us. An endlessly sprawling series of decks cantilevered out over the Hudson River with sweeping views of the Pallisades and the GWB. Spectacular.
BUT...
It took way too long for the bartender to look at us, considering there were maybe 6 people in the bar at the time. And after the wait, it cost us $20 for a beer and a margarita. I'm sorry, it this SoHo? What gives with the prices? And mid-afternoon on a slow day, no less!
My beer was great, though. Perfectly cold on such a hot day. But my boyfriend's margarita was undrinkable. It was at least 50% straight tequila, and not a high-quality one either. He kept watering it down, but it was to no avail. We ended up leaving more than half the drink behind when we left.
And on our way out, we noticed that the bar was filling up with a lot of less-than-savory types in skimpy outfits. Checking their InstaGram paper trail tells me La Marina turns into an Uptown Nightclub toward sunset. Not my speed or my scene.
It is what it is! Go midday and avoid the crowds - the view is worth it.
I've heard so much about La Marina so I decided to give it a chance for my birthday. It was the worse decision I made. This place is definitely OVER RATED. It took us a hour to be seated. Understandable for a popular establishment. Â We were seated in another area until our dinner table was ready. We were told appetizers and drinks can be order here. Upon trying to order what we were told (appetizers/drinks) Â we were told by staff that we cannot sit there and they do not provide anything in that area due to it not even being a sitting area.
We were approached by  a young lady whom basically told us for a price she  can have us seated immediately.  We paid her and she delivered.  We were seated immediately. Â
It took is o er a hour and 20 min after ordering to actually receive our food. Half of my party left and went to other restaurants to eat. It was a complete mess. We had to ask for water because they didn't even suggest it.
Now we are all over it and ready to go. The check had 6 different things that were added that were not order and had items ordered but were not delivered. Â All but two ppl paid with cash. Our waitress came back and said both credit cards were declined. One being mine. Impossible, funds were definitely in my account. So someone gives her credit card to cover the fee and behold it declines also. This being the third card declined, now we realize that it has to be their system or something.
Anyway, we spoke to the manager voiced our complaints and adviced them we were NEVER recommend or return.
I gave it 2 stars for the location. Its def a hood spot. If you've never been anywhere really nice in your life you'd think this place is great...blahhhhhh NEVER AGAIN!
I've been hearing good things about La Marina for a couple months now. Â I stopped by a couple weeks ago but couldn't even get into the place (it was right after the Puerto Rican day parade). Â
Hubby and I decided to go on a nice, warm night with my sis and her fiancée.  The place was still packed but at least we got in.  If you are not a fan of latin music, then this is not the place for you.  Also, if you don't like crowds, again, this is not the place for you.  There was literally no where to sit on the outdoor deck.  We had to bribe a busboy with 20 dollars to find us a table.  They have a restaurant indoors, but the charm of this place is obviously the outdoor venue.  We decided to grab a drink at the outdoor bar while we waited to jack a seat.
We ordered 3 Long Island Iced Teas and I almost crapped myself when the bartender said $42...SHEESH! Â I will say this tho, the drinks are VERY strong. Â I was feeling very nice after the first drink and by the end of the night when I had 3, I was slurring my words...LOL.
We decided to try out the restaurant and the food is good.  Not great, good.  I had the black cod entrée which I enjoyed although the veggies were garlicky and sweet...kinda odd combo.  The other 3 members of the party had the La Marina burger and said it was good. Â
I will say this... there is a lot of attractive people here!! If you are single looking to mingle then definitely stop by. Â I'm 100% into my man but I even had to admit that I have never been to a venue with so much people were the majority were very attractive...male and female! Â They were having a beach party in the "club" section of La Marina that night. Â After our dinner we walked over, thinking we would continue the night dancing to some latin music. Â However, when the bouncer said it was $30 for guys and $20 for girls to get in we decided to go elsewhere. Â It didn't seem worth it and I can't remember the last time I payed (especially that much) to get in a club. Â Maybe next time though!
All in all, I had a great time at La Marina and will probably be back a couple times before the cold weather hits again.
i was not sure what to expect. I've been hearing mixed reviews about the place. I went on a Saturday night for dinner and drink and overall it was ok. I would like to come after work for some drinks and the view. Otherwise, the food menu is limited and bland. I would not come for food. The staff is attentive, friendly and helpful but the actual delivery of the food is very slow. I think the place has great potential with improved management and food time turnaround. The front of the restaurant area is also not that appealing with people standing in what seems like a parking lot just standing around with plastic cups. Inside the seating area is very pretty and open.
Review Source:I've been here many times and every time the service is terrible. People who work here are very rude and only willing to give you attention if you're spending tons of money (meaning hundreds of dollars on a bottle of liquor or more). Go for the views, not the food or service. One star is only because the views are beautiful.
Review Source:This establishment is apalling and treats people with inhuman standards. After my girlfriends were trying to enjoy our best friends bachlorette party and spending $700 on a table they forced them out of the club for refusing to buy three more bottles (after the liquor purchased was not even finished because it had only been two hours). After the manager refused to accomadte or allow them any more time they were then beaten, punched, kicked and then thrown on the street. They were 4 little 100 lb girls and had to be rushed to the ER. They were with no men and they did not become physical at any point. They were brutally beaten and verbally haraseed for already meetign the bottle requirement and just wanting to finish what they had already paid for. They were only granted two hours to drink until they were forced to spend more money or leave. Physical abuse by three 250 lb bouncers for 4 100 lbs females is beyond the scope of reason. I want everyone to understand what type of people run this establishment and poor disgraceful behavior they exhibit. Do not plan any joyious occasion here unless you want it to end in legitement tears of blood. your partys are much better spent at places like bagatelle, 235th or the gansavort.
Review Source:La Marina holds true to its Yelp 3 star rating - I often find myself disagreeing with Yelp reviewers and their ratings, but in cases like this, I completely agree. And here's why:
The Spot/View:
+++ Unparalled views north and south of the Hudson, NJ and the GW bridge. These views are extremely rare and really cannot be beaten...this place is really ALL about the views.
+ They are doing the Shore Club / Old School Club BED kinda theme on a fake beach area they've built for drinks / bottle svc at nights etc. Looks kinda' cool but kinda' cheesy at the same time.
Cocktails:
+ We ordered a pitcher of their red sangria which they gave us a taste of first, and although it tasted "Really strong", it was quite good for restaurant sangria. It was served in glasses with fresh fruit on the bottom (berries), nice touch.
The Food:
+ & -. $14. Zucchini and vegetable fritatta. It was 2 rather small-ish triangles which were very hearty with eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini, and onions. I've had better fritatta before but it certainly wasn't the worst. It just lacked overall flavor, the eggs were REALLY done and in fact it was a bit firmer than I'd expect. Slightly softer would've been a bit better to my liking. The salad was good as was the dressing, and the home fries on the plate were quite good as well.
The Service:
+ & -. Our server was a really nice, very funny, but quirky guy. Totally honest about the place, what they serve, do well, don't do well etc, but it was slow and the place just isn't managed well. I think with some proper management, they can kick things up a notch or 2 and it would really take this place to 3.5 stars.
Other:
- Valet parking is nice but they charge you $10 per car!
+ The area isn't the greatest around the restaurant and is going through a major gentrification...
- ************NO AMEX CARDS***********
In Summary?
The service needs to be kicked up a notch, the food needs to be kicked up 3/4 of a notch and this could be a 4 star Yelp joint. Until then, I'll only return for evening cocktails with the amazing views!

A-FREAKIN-MAZING!!
My sister and I went as a thank you to me for babysitting her daughter, and what a thank you it was!! Â First of all, the place makes you feel like you're on vacation, which is pretty badass, but then you have the KILLER views! Â Everything from the lighting to the music to the design of the buildings is amazing. Â We sat and had a drink (delicious BTW) and waited for our table, and we got to enjoy the romantic sunset. Â All around us was amazing energy from customers drinking, laughing, and smoking hookahs. Â
Once we were seated, we got an amazing table with a perfect view of the GW Bridge. Â We also got to enjoy boats going by, and trains strolling through to their next stop. Â It was the most interesting atmosphere I've ever seen. Â
The food was good too. Â It was presented beautifully, and was tasty... my niece LOVED the left overs! ;)
Can't wait to go back to NYC and come enjoy another sunset!
I've never been to la marina, but I live nearby and my commute takes me right by it (on the greenway and through dyckman). there is a nytimes article that captures perfectly what i see every weekend.
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2013%2F06%2F19%2Fnyregion%2Fa-place-to-be-seen-and-heard-in-upper-manhattan.html&s=000cfeca214c2bcb0285317df7b00163e20ffd601fbcba21b614ed6ef03b6e5c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.nytimes.com/2…</a>
on weekends, the traffic around there is crazy. it's so bad that the nypd block certain streets and corral drivers through other streets to manage the situation. if you're planning on going, park somewhere else and walk. better yet, take the subway or bike.
for me, a place like this would be nice if it were busy but peaceful. however, if you're into massive places like this and willingly put up with the detriments that come with such a place (based on my assumptions only), by all means give it a shot.
The $10 cover to the sandy lounge/dance space was well spent. It separated the meat-market local crowd of the restaurant area from the relaxed, low-key and diverse crowd. The DJ was ok, very eclectic mix of music (even played some Bollywood) and the live conga performance was thoroughly enjoyable, very earthy. A bunch of us split the cost of a $245 bottle of vodka and it allowed us the use of a bed for our group to be comfortable instead of standing all night. There was only one bartender so threes was a bit of a wait for those who ordered drinks ($12 vodka drinks). Â Not sure of I'll return but it was worth trying once. Go with a group! Oh, and don't wear fancy shoes, as this area was all on sand. Have fun dancing in the sand!
Review Source:Absolutely gorgeous atmosphere. Â Everyone was friendly. Â But the service was sooo slow. Â I guess it is understandable because they get so busy.
The bartenders were stunningly beautiful too. Â
I wish I could remember what the food tasted like. Â I drank a lot. Â I guess the food didnt leave much of an impression.
They have ruined the entire neighborhood. Â No more parking my car near my home - must now pay to put it in a garage - and they have doubled the price. Â Valet parking attendants take patrons cars and place them on public streets. Â Huge crowds al night long and very LOUD music have destroyed our peace. Â Garbage covers the street in the mornings. Â Used condoms abound! Â Broken glass, urine and even feces in between parked cars. Â THROBBING drums and bass - all night long ... a lot of scaring looking shady types - this so called family restaurant is nothing but a loud rap-centric Latino nightclub meat market. Â Our neighborhood has been ruined. Â Old-timers wish they could leave. Â My wife and I will be gone in 3-4 months - we've had it. Â We will miss our Hudson River view and convenient location. Â We cannot live with this anymore. Â It is, seriously, the worst possible thing they could have done to this peaceful area. Â Ruined it.
Review Source:Pros: View, friendly staff, tasty bread and great mussels. Â Enjoyed the calamari too.
Cons: Â S l o w. Â So slow. Â The drinks took forever to get. Â The food took forever to get. Â The check took forever to get. Â And it was a Wednesday evening and wasn't busy.
Music a bit too loud- and we were outside!
I will go back, though.
This is actually going to be a Two-part review...due to the fact that I didn't get the FULL La Marina experience being that I actually did not have any drinks here, didn't eat nor did I party. Just came here off a whim on a nice Saturday in which I didn't have anything to do.
Been hearing about the hype of La Marina for a little over a year now. Gotta say it is a very beautiful spot. So far what I liked the most about it is the view that you get of the Hudson River and Fort Lee, New Jersey. Those view are not the only nice ones though...the women that come here...HOLY SHIT! Not that it should be any surprise considering that Washington Heights/Dyckman/Inwood/West Harlem/further up in the Bronx has probably the most beautiful women in New York City but yeah you will see all that here at La Marina and then some. Also if it is a nice day like it was the day I came...you will be MORE than pleased at the attire of what these ladies wear while here.
On the other side of the token though with the guys that come here....ehhh...I mean I really don't judge guys too much on what they wear cause I really don't give a shit considering I love bad b*****s, that's my F'N problem, but a lot of the guys that come here...well they look like they just came out to go to the corner bodega or the laundromat. I mean, listen yeah you can come to La Marina casual, laid back looking but it is a very nice spot...at least ATTEMPT to look the part. I mean myself when I went had on some nice khakis, short sleeve button down some nice threaded going out sneakers. A good portion of the guys that I saw that were here had on sweat shorts, tank tops when they shouldn't of had been wearing them at all due to body type, dirty fitteds and snap backs, I mean c'mon. Act like you KNOW you are going to be looked at while you're out.
Besides that, I can't really comment too much else about La Marina due to me not having any drinks there (yet) and I didn't go into the club part which was charging $100 CASH at the checkpoint...wasn't about that life that day considering that I don't know who exactly was performing but will do that one of these days.
Another thing that only leaves La Marina at a 3 star for right now is that they do not allow you to bring in hand sanitizer which I found offensive considering, listen I like to take care of my hands and not deal with germs. It's a dirty world out there and I take hand sanitizer EVERY where I go so that did get me upset when I was not allowed to bring that in. Also if you decide to come to La Marina via vehicle, I advise you COME EARLY....let me emphasize that GET THERE EARLYYYYYYY!!!!!!! Â More so if you are coming on a weekend, NICE weekend and when there is a performance going on because parking alone in that area really sucks. You will be turned back and will have to find parking blocks away. You are better off coming here via cab or for all of you who consider yourself "elitist or entitled" public transportation. They have valet parking here if you do manage to get here early enough but its so congested after a certain time to even get to parking that it may not even be worth it.
Other than that if you want to come here with a group of people or a nice date then La Marina is definitely the way to go especially on a very nice day in Washington Heights.
Great location !!!!! But seems to me like the restaurant had to identity yet ... The food wasn't great and the drinks were mediocre ..... Â The host lost our reservation and even though the restaurant was EMPTY , the host declined our request to sit in a four top because it was RESERVED but nobody was there !!! I really wanted to love this place but they need to work on their customer service skills...
Review Source:Great find! We wanted to get away with out taking a flight and an hour and 2 trains later we ended up in paradise. Being originally from Miami I felt right at home. The location is surrounded by water and over looking the Henry Hudson bridge. I was a fan of the mojito which is tough being a Miami girl and big critic. Jeffrey at the bar is a delight, very warm and welcoming. Francisco the manager made our experience complete by accommodating us in the lounge to hear the Cuban band up close and personal. I felt like the concert was just for us. Would recommend to anyone looking for an escape from the typical new York scene. Cant wait to go back!
Review Source:Great location. Â Beautiful scenery. Â Good place to catch live entertainment.
Don't go with a large party for dinner - even if you've made reservations. Â Even though they force a party of 12 or more to dine from a prix fix menu, it will still take hours before your entre arrives. Â There's no way you should wait 2 hours for dinner and then wait another half hour while the staff tries to find the manager so that you can have a face of authority to complain to. Â
And to look at our table, you would have never known we hadn't completed our meal yet. Â The table remained littered with empty glasses and appetizer plates, with no service to clear the table and/or offer refills of water and drinks. Â Have the table was never offered a drink to begin with.
For all the wait - the food was disappointing. Â The steaks were not cooked to the requested temperature and the salmon was just plain salmon. Â The dessert was bland, smelling of uncovered refrigeration and tasting of super market purchase. Â And there was no inquiry as to why so many portions of dinner were left behind. Â The results weren't anything you couldn't find plated better, tasting better and served within a reasonable time frame elsewhere. Â We left before coffee/tea orders were taken - even though that was part of the prix fix as well. Â Everyone had lost their patience long before.
I'm trying very hard not to blame it on the servers. Â We could see, from our more than stationary position, they were struggling to keep up with workload. Â There appears to be a lack of organization and direction from management. Â Our server was very nice and apologetic, to both our table and the other large party she was straddled with. Â It was obvious there was nothing she could do on her own to improve or take charge of the situation. Â Management was not there to support her in a way which coudl have made her job easier as well as left the diners with a pleasant experience.
I'll may try it again - but not with a group of friends and family looking to celebrate anything important or enjoy a meal. Â Perhaps just a drink or too while I enjoy the Hudson views.
Really should give it 2.5 stars.the reviews on this place are pretty spot on
It's all about the spectacular views & ambiance which can only b matched by a few places in the city ( I.e.The River cafe) if you know uptown then you know you'll see some of the most beautiful ladies around . Other than that service was average at best, food overpriced & nothing special, menu VERY limited( they had Mac n cheese as an entree! Lol) music was way 2 loud place was overcrowded ( security had a hard time ) not great 4 families/kids . All in all I'm glad this place exist but it is what it is. Place you go 2 once with ur boys or a ladies night out.
Beautiful setting and the food is great. The only problem is that we left a cash tip and for some reason, our card was charged double for the tip. Â This is very deceiving and although we had a very nice dining experience, and that the wait staff and employees were very courteous, the extra tip business left us questioning as to whether or not we would come back to dine here again.
Review Source:This place is highly overrated and overpriced imo. A waste of a pristine location. I was here for dinner because i was house sitting nearby in Van Cortland Park. The food does not live up to expectations. We literally waited 15 mind for anyone to come to out table once seated even though there were at least 5 waiters in the place and only about 5 other tables seated.
Review Source:Love this place!
I went there this past weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. The food was great and it was very easy to eat there gluten free. In addition, although not marked on the menu, our waiter shared that the fish was WILD, meat GRASS FED or FREE RANGE! No wonder the steak was so scrumptious ! The best part, however, was how Jared (I think he must have been the manager) made sure that my birthday celebration was extra special by taking very good care of us. Ultimately its the staff that makes or breaks the place and I was definitely impressed by him!
I am excited to go back later this summer!
This is probably more 3.5 stars but I'll give them an up-vote for the incredible view especially. I really enjoyed this place. Four of us total went in on an almost-spring Sunday afternoon around 5:30 and enjoyed two bottles of wine (judge away) and some food. On an empty Sunday sitting outside, the service was great and our waitress was a total sweetheart. I can see the place being a disaster when crowded though - there are a lot of tiny tables crammed out there and since the deck is cut off from the restaurant pretty completely, it's not hard to imagine getting frustrated with slow and/or inattentive service.
For us though, we loved it. The yuca fries are amazing - we ate three orders before I made everyone stop because we could have kept ordering and eating them without realizing we were full. We also had the fried calamari, which was spicy and cooked perfectly. But again - it was very slow there at the time and we were the only ones outside ordering food. I can see it being a problem when busy.
My only complaint is that they included tip on the bill for 4 of us, so watch out for that. Otherwise, I'd definitely be back at an off time for drinks and as many orders of yuca fries as they can fit on my table.
The view is beyond compare. You feel like you are sitting on the water with the floor to ceiling windows. Great date or special event atmosphere. And nothing like it anywhere up in this neck of the woods. Worth the trip up here.
The reviews in the past that I read were less than great, however, they must have changed since last year because the service was top notch. Friendly and we were treated like queens, from the hostesses to the servers.
It seems they are going more upscale in the past, so dress to impress when you go.
The views alone get 5 Stars.
Drinks are solid and the bartenders are fast and attentive.
Mac and cheese was GOOD. Tuna Tartar was decent, have had way better in tons of different places.
Overall the ambiance made it a beautiful experience worth the prices we paid for everything. Â
We did, almost get overcharged for 2 drinks but they immediately recognized the error and corrected it right away. Â
The staff here is very nice.
Whoa...What's going on here? Why all these bad reviews? This place is awesome!!
It must have one of the best views of NYC restaurants and it's right on the water and the food and drinks are great. Yes, the prices could be a bit lower, but the way I see it, I'm paying extra for the view. And I'm perfectly ok with that. The place itself is super cool and modern.
My husband and I have probably been to La Marina about 6 times and always try to bring our friends and everyone is always very impressed. I'm really baffled by the reviews. Guess I've never sat at the bar so I'm not sure how are the bartenders. Â And we always go during the week to avoid the crowds.
I really have nothing bad to say. At least not today. Love this place. One of my favorites in NYC!
This place has so much potential, so it's such a SHAME that it's wasted on poor management and poorly trained staff. Unbeatable views up and down the Hudson, in a more secluded area away from the hustle and bustle of the city, a HUGE space with a cool indoor/outdoor feel.
But as soon as my friends and I arrived, the experience quickly spiraled downhill. The aforementioned HUGE space was nearly empty, but apparently all those empty seats were "reserved" for mysterious invisible diners. Our group had come without a reservation, so the hostess made us wait at the bar, where we ordered drinks. When our table was finally ready, our waitress made us close our tab instead of carrying it over for us. Then, the hostess led us to our table through the most inconvenient route possible, weaving through tables, chairs, and people. As for the food, it was, to put it nicely, forgettable. Our waiter was nice, but pretty incompetent. Sorry, but being nice doesn't cut it as a waiter, my friend.
All that being said, the view was incredible and may warrant a second visit - maybe just for drinks next time.
This place is so bad, it seriously is so super overrated, I think only reason anyone goes there is because they let you smoke hookah while eating. I even saw them take a Hookah after one group was done and just give it to another without cleaning since it was so busy, WTF, what if someone in the other party had something, that's how people end up with herpes, I swear.
I had to wait over an hour to be seated which made me think wow this place must be great but the food was so horrible and there was even bright red lipstick still on my cup, the waitress just said sorry and got me another cup, after that I said no sorry and just walked out of there. Bring some antibiotics if you're going to eat here!!!!
