Just came here based on a recommendation while on vacation. I'm particular about my Italian food. I had the Zuppa di Pesce. Its one of my new favorite Italian dishes! Seafood lovers dream. Excellent broth with a deep flavor and light texture.   I also met the owner and chef Giancarlo. Great guy, he definitely takes pride in his work. Thanks Giancarlo for a great experience.   -Joseph

To start with, we ordered some Calamari ($11). It was good, but nothing special. The bread that everyone receives was excellent! Slices of Italian bread and these garlic knots that were garlicky and buttery and delicious.

Entrees, however, seemed to be luck of the draw. A friend had Ravioli all' Aragosta ($24) which he really enjoyed, I had a bite and you could really taste the lobster. Myself, I had the Penne Rosa ($16) which was OK. Huge portion, but I wasn't a big fan of the sauce it came with. I thought it was salty, but wasn't nearly as bad as another friend's Linguini del Mare ($19) which was wayyyy too salty. Disappointing because all the dishes looked good.

Didn't hear much either way for the Spaghetti ai Gamberi ($19) and Lasagna della Mamma ($15).

On the plus side, the waitresses seemed quite nice, bringing more bread for use in the Ravioli's sauce. It's a family, home-y kind of atmosphere, which was nice.

There was a mistake where they tried to charge us $15 for the Calamari ($30 total). The explanation was that the waitress thought it was the special they had sometimes (they didn't have it that night). Whatever, benefit of the doubt, just another reminder to always check the receipt.

Three stars for the roulette of pricey entree experiences but awesome bread. You might have better luck.

Good family owned spot where most diners are returning regulars.  Don't forget to BYOB!  Caesar salad was Delish-freshly shaved cheese (Reggiano?).  Lasagne alla Mama was excellent (just like Mama made!).  Pollo alla Portobello was a very generous portion and well prepared with melted muzarell, served with silky mashed potatoes and broccoli.  The whole wheat margherita pizza was large and made with fresh cheese.  It was thin and crispy just like in Italia.  Get there early before all the regulars crowd in.  Reasonable prices and friendly family service.

Solid BYO Italian restaurant right outside of Atlantic City.

Service was fantastic, you feel like part of the family eating here. The food was on point, fresh, perfect serving portions, and priced appropriately (maybe even a little too expensive for the casual beach town).

Mussels in red sauce special - sauce was fantastic, soaked it up over three rounds of bread, and slurped the rest with a spoon like it was soup. The mussels themselves though were SO small. Tiny. Fresh - but miniature.

Fruitti de Mare was definitely a hit - the seafood was fresh. Again small mussels. I think it's difficult to get this dish cooked to perfection because the seafood continues to cook in the broth - so the lobster was overcooked to my standards. Again with this sauce though - OUT OF THIS WORLD. Side pasta on the side was simple, yet great with the dish.

Arugula salad was good - good portion side, fresh cheese, not too much dressing.

5 stars for Brigantine, 4 stars for the real world.

My fiance's mom took us here on our last night down the shore, and it was a great change of pace from the otherwise largely mediocre food on the island. I'm a gluten-free (not by choice!) vegetarian, and I struggled my way through vacation on a diet of hash browns and salads.

Imagine how relieved I was to see that L'Aragosta has GLUTEN-FREE PASTA oh my god are you serious I can actually eat something I think I could cry. My future mother-in-law is a regular, so the whole staff knew her and chatted with us a bit. Our waiter Sam was a young man who was very friendly, but gave us plenty of space. Thumbs up.

I ordered the arugula salad and GF pasta with vodka sauce, and both were quite good. The salad actually had fresh ingredients, and while it wasn't a particularly creative or interesting salad, it had plenty of flavor and went down easy. The arugula wasn't bitter at all, just peppery. The pasta was great, too. It's pretty hard to go wrong with pink sauce, but this was an especially fine example.

I was too lost in my own I'm-on-Brigantine-and-eating-real-food moment to pay much attention to what my fiance and his mom were eating, but I know she loves their food enough to come back quite often.

Friendly people and tasty food! Not mindblowingly good or anything, but the best you'll find on Brigantine.

Love this local italian place on the island.  Owned and operated by true italians!  Our waitress was the owner and she was adorable.  I knew I'd love the place before I even tried anything!!!!

Have been here a few times and would recommend any of their fresh pizzas, especially the margherita and the garlic shrimp scampi one (I forget the name of it).  Their pasta was delicious, especially the lasagna which I never tend to get out at restaurants, but I did based on a recommendation.

It's BYOB which is nice as well. I just love the location, the people and the food. I will be coming here as much as I can!

It's a BYO in peaceful Brigantine, close to A.C. but with a totally different vibe.  Service is on the slow side, but the food is quite good and worth the wait.  Where do you have to be, anyway?  You're already at the shore, so relax.

After you open your own wine, that is.  For some reason they give you a corkscrew here rather than doing it for you.  Eat their wonderful bread while waiting for your server to take your order.

Lasagna alla Mama is excellent and reliable.  I've had it many times.  But more often than not I order one of the night's specials, usually the fresh fish of the day with interesting sauces and veggies.  It's a family style place where the Phillies game is on the TV but you can't hear it because everyone is enjoying their wine and their conversation.  You will too.

This is yet another weird place to eat in the ocean of weirdness that is the Jersey Shore.

For my maiden flight into this small eatery on the Brigantine circle, I was flying solo (she left muttering something about "her husband") - no worry. Sometimes I LIKE it that way.

Apparently, the staff at L'aragosta do not feel the same, for when I entered, I felt a breeze of "you solo eaters are not welcome here." Yes, a weird, uneasy feeling.

I enter and pass by a young guy with thick jet black hair who would make a perfect Calogero if they were planning a remake of "A Bronx Tale" (why not - they've remade everything else, and not well, I might add). After getting a look from him, I walk up to the older gentlemen holding menus with a 60s Cesar Romero mustache (he's the old Joker from Batman - there, I just saved you the trouble of looking it up)  and THICK combed back snow white hair.

    I walk in.

    (Pause).

"Can i help you?" he asked, while looking at me as if I had a cup in my hand selling pencils.

    "Yes. Table for one?"

    (Pause)

He said nothing and just walked away. Should I follow?

I'm glad I did, because he dumped me in the front breezeway and just dropped the menu on the table and walked away. Nice, warm, and welcoming. I've had a better reception at Arby's.

Now, the waitress comes up - VERY sweet lady just off the boat from Italy. She rattles off the specials with so much charm I almost asked her to repeat them - but I didn't. I order my coke and a glass of water and off she goes.

I look around - all of the occupied tables have bread. Bread, bread, bread.

She brings me my Coke - "are you ready to order?"

Yes - I will have the lasanga.

"It's good" she assured me and then walked away.

A few minutes later she walked back. No bread.

Where the hell is my bread? Great, another bread Nazi. There's a lady at the table next to me who hasn't even touched hers and she has more than enough to go around at the Last Supper. Where's my bread?

The waitress walks by - I stop her. "May I have some bread?"

Her reaction could only be described as one I could imagine her having if I said, "Your daughter has a great ass. Is she single? Yes? Molto Bene!!"

She exits and re-appears with a basket containing ONE slice of Italian bread. What am I, five?

I scarf THAT down in short order and she walks back - "May I have some more bread, please?"

NOW she gives me a look as if she had just caught her daughter giving me the "Brigantine Salute."

Basket returns - this time, a garlic roll accompanied the bastard orphan slice of Italian bread.

    Wow.

Finally, the dinner came, and it was very, very good, served on a plate and NOT in a red hot "baking tray" that reduces the lasanga to a soupy hell. THIS was a tasty slice of homemade lasanga. Excellent.

Because it was a cheesy mess I couldn't tell how good their homemade marinara was, but I'm thinking it could have used a little kick. Just a little poke in the groin.

I was finished, she asked if I wanted dessert, I said no, she dropped off the check, I slid in my credit card, she picked it up, she came back, dropped it down, and that was it. No thank you, no "how was everything" nothing - wham, bam, get the f&%k out of my restaurant.

A weird place. Do "tables for one" drive away business? Cesar Romero must think it did, which is why he treated me like a leper.

Dinner was excellent. The rest? Not so much. I would advise you to save your money for another Italian Restaurant in Margate or Atlantic City, since some of their dishes can hit the $30 mark (my lasanga was $15). At that price, could you just PRETEND to be glad I came into your restaurant?

I would definitely give this place a 4 based on the food, however the price was rather high. Had 2 entrees and 2 salads -- and was a bit surprised at the check for $80! My mother got the "special" salad and " special" fish, which the waitress never told a price on (shame on us for not asking) and that combined came to $43.  We could have easily gone somewhere else on the island  and also had drinks with dinner for less than this. Good service, good food, but will not return.

It took 20 minutes for someone to come to our table, and after dropping off the bottle opener (is this NJ standard at BYOs? You guys can't pump your own gas but you're expected to cork your own wine? What gives?) it took another 20 minutes to get menus, and another 20 to order. Luckily, the table of 6 behind us was having an interesting fight, so that provided a distraction from the terrible service. FYI, if you are going to air your dirty laundry in public, I am allowed to stare at you in delight. Just sayin'!

We came to find out there were only 2 people working at the restaurant that night, a young kid, who kept having to run out and make deliveries, and his mother, who spoke no English. It was a scene out of Monty Python, except my rampant, unanswered hunger wasn't so funny for boyfriend, whose face I threatened to eat if I wasn't provided with real sustenance.

Eventually, the food came, and it was pretty good. Boyfriend and I split the calamari salad, which was delicious, and I think boyfriend got some sort of slab of meat, as he is wont to do. The ravioli were okay, but the cream sauce the dish came in was close to the consistency of pudding, I'm assuming from having sat so long under the heat lamp waiting to brought my rumbling tummy.

The whole meal took us 2 hours from start to finish, and if I'm devoting that much time to eating, I want to have a gourmet feast. I didn't get that here. The young kid apologized to us profusely for the wait, which was kind of him.

Heads up, though: don't attempt to stop in for a quick meal the night before New Years Eve, because Brigantine is a ghost town. We should've known.

My fiancé and I stopped here for lunch on a Sunday. Atmosphere was nice, family oriented. The bread was great and so were both our meals. They were a little stingy with the fries and a little slow with refilling the drinks but the quality of the food more than made up for it. I would recommend them! :)

On the very few reviews, I went out on a limb and took a bunch of women from a weekend party to this restaurant.  We were all incredibly happy.  It was a BYO so it kept the costs down.  The pasta was homemade and the seafood was fresh.  The manager was so friendly and the service was great.  Everyone in my party was happy with their meal.  The only reason I did not give this five stars was because a few of the sauces were a bit bland.  We still ate every bit of our food!

Awesome!  The bread they give you is both regular bread and this interesting combination between a garlic knot and a bagel.  Very friendly cozy atmosphere.  I had the seafood on rice (not even going to try to spell out the Italian), and my company had tortellini.  Both were really good, but I much preferred the seafood.  It was a mixture of squid, mussels, shrimp, and clams.  Very interesting and plenty of different tastes to enjoy.  The Tortellini was good, but it kind of seemed like the sauce was one dimensional.  You could taste the cream, and then the cheese in the tortellini, but that's it.  Pricing, expect about $20 a plate, if you are just ordering an entre.  It's a BYO... gotta love that.  I'd happily go back there, but expect it to be busy in the summer.

I have eaten dinner in the restaurant once and ordered food to go twice.  I am going back for dinner tonight.  This restaurant is like stepping into your italian grandma's kitchen.  It is BYOB so grab a bottle down the street.  The prochutto wrapped salad had the most amazing vinaigrette.  The thin crust pizza with chicken and pesto AWESOME!  All of the pasta dishes are full of win.  The sandwiches are well thought out and taste great!  Perfect for a nice picnic on the beach.  We love brigantine and we love L'Aragosta.
