Came here yesterday afternoon for a quick drink with my friend and her boyfriend. It was busy, but not so busy that you couldn't walk/move/breathe. They have beer and wine, which is fine by me! The atmosphere was very chill, they had some games on and it was your typical pub. I was told their food is really good, too, so I'll have to come back for that. This is definitely a good place to come if you want to have a drink and watch the game without the craziness of the average PB bar!
Review Source:I came here to have beer while my partner ate. I enjoy little bars like this! It was a little tricky to get to from where we live. Lot's of little turns.
I really really enjoyed the service from the bartender. She was really good and on top of her stuff. I did not have to ask for a water or anything. She would see that my partners coke was low and came over without being asked a got him a refill. We felt horrible because the way the set up was you paid for your food separate from the bar area. I had already tipped her for my beer and we both had no cash. We really wanted to tip her extra because she was soooo goood! My partner asked if he could just add a charge to his card for her tip and she said "no don't worry about it just get me the next time you guys are in."
I did not try the food. I am rating this place purely off the beer (Idiot IPA) which was awesome and mostly the customer service!
I will definitely be back to try the food and to pay our debt to a great bartender! :)
Oh and to update this review once again!
Was meeting up with some friends in PB and we chose to start our night here. We chose Lattitudes because it has a ton of street parking surrounding it (probably because it is a few blocks north of the craziness of Garnet) and it is usually full but not crowded. Â It had a fun, kitschy, local pub type feel and had a lot of regulars (yes, you can tell) but was also inviting & friendly.......in fact when my part of the group entered we were greeted with smiles, and someone was telling a joke and backed it up so we could be included........We ordered drinks and the beer drinkers loved the brew and the wine drinkers had a surprisingly large selection of wines to choose from....and....as a bonus.....the pours were very generous and priced low.
My new fav place to meetup with friends!!
I would give this a 5 star but..........they are limited to beer and wine only...no mixed drinks so......a solid 4 !
BIG OL RACISTS!!!!!!!!!!! Â
these people kept a tab for my friend whose last name is Fukushima. Â When he got the tab back on the piece of paper from the bartender it was for 14.95, named "Chink". Â The bartender, then half denied it and admitted to it as we left. I made this rating so everyone would see how bad they are.
NEVER GO HERE!!!!!!
david
I can't help but really enjoy this place.
It's dark, it's dank.
Long haired, middle aged men and tie-die shirts. Beer and Wine only.
Dart board in back.
Also, there whole philly-style sandwich thing is so fricken bomb. Like, scary deliciously, dangerously good.
Yup, this place I like.
Went there last night for drinks and it was pretty empty.
Happy hour did last until 9pm so the drinks were cheap. Ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and it was completely full to the brim. We also got a pitcher of beermosas and it was pretty cheap.
The food here is good too. The philly sheese steak tots are awesome paired with a beer. That is a must order if you come here.
They accept credit cards now and you do not need cash like other bars in the area.
This is a locals bar. We walked in and all the old guys were at the bar shootin the breeze and watching the Yankees game highlights.
Good bar to go to for a low key sports outing. Place was a little dark and they recently removed the pool table it looks like but I do want to check out their trivia night and see what it is all about.
Great breakfast food. It's a different kind of place in that you have to go pick your food up at the window but it really is great food!
It's a non-liquor bar which makes it ideal for Sunday morning football viewing but it is a Redskins bar so if you are cheering for another team you should probably pick another bar.
Wow, I sure have done a 180 on my opinion of Alex's Brown Bag.
Â
I posted a review of the now closed downtown a few months ago and I now know why I had such a poor experience. Â I went there the week they were closing and the employees there were not thrilled and thus a lackluster performance and representation of what Alexs' truly is.
Upon suggestion from a friend, they said to try them again at the new site. Â Today I had the opportunity to do just that and damn happy that I did!
The bar is nice and cozy, seemed like it would be very interactive and warm. Â They even had a shuffle board game there! Â This is a definite plus for east coasters - it's not a "real" shuffleboard game but still fun!
I ordered  a basic Philly hesitantly, and was pleasantly surprised to hear Howard on the radio in the kitchen.  The man taking my order had that pleasant east coast demeanor - to the point, and on top of your order, no nonsense...  I call it east coast charm!  I then heard the wonderful sounds of steak being chopped and the sizzle of the grill!
Then it came out, the cheese steak was delivered to me while steaming and I was amazed. Â This was 100% different than what I was presented with at the old location. Â It is important to note that the guys did not know that I was the person who posted the poor review of the old site.
The bun had a light toasting on the outside and was very soft on the inside, the meat to bun ratio was about the best I have seen in San Diego, meaning I did not feel that they were being stingy with the meat. Â It was good, no... very good, umm... no... Â it was freakin' Philly Fanatic Fantastic!
I could taste the peppers, onions and marinade, not overbearing but instead like a medley of flavors as it should be - you could taste the steak! Â The cheese was there as a compliment and not an overbearing factor of the product, meaning it was another part of the medley and not an overzealous soloist. Â I finished the whole damn thing with joy and a tug in my heart to visit Norristown and Roxborough sometime in the near future. Â It is simply that good. Â
Fresh, simple and real... as in AUTHINTIC!
I have written reviews of several other cheese steak places here in San Diego and I do admit that I enjoy the ones that I enjoy. Â They do a good job and I will not hesitate to eat at their establishments in the future.
Now, with that said, if I am asked where one can get a true Philadelphia Cheese Steak in San Diego, hands down, "See Jim at Alexs' Brown Bag located inside Latitude 32 off of Cass Street in PB!!!" will be my final answer! Â See you soon!
Cozy little locals hangout...I used to come more when I lived a block away. Â Beer and wine only, cash only....and one pool table. Â It is small, usually full. Â And these reasons keep a lot of people away. Â Fine by me.... Â
They used to make a hell of hot dog. Â I heard Alex's Brown Bag closed down in Bankers Hill and is setting up shop here. Â That's reason enough for phillysteak lovers. Â
Its not really a dive. Â Its mellow, it doesnt smell, and in my opinion for a good dive, there have to be some regular drunks that sit around. Â Well, maybe there are a few of those, but without liquor, it just qualifies as a locals pub for me.
I liked this place. Small little bar off the path of the majority of PBers. The bar is put into two sections, the bar area as one and the food area as another. They are technically separate to each other so you have to pay separate. The bar only takes cash while the food portion takes card and cash.
I really liked the decor in this place and liked the environment. I like that they have plenty of good beers to choose from as well. They have a good priced happy hour on their beer as well. The food was pretty good. I gave this place 3 stars (which is a perfectly good rating as far as I'm concerned) because of the un-actknowledgment of the bartender when we first got there. There was only a hand full of people and my girlfriend and I sat at a table right behind the actual bar. First time we had ever been here and were looking for food and some beer. The bartender didn't say Hi as we walked in but did look at us. We sat there waiting for a server for 5 minutes before I got fed up and walked up to the bar. The whole time the bartender girl was just standing there talking to a couple guys at the bar. Once I walk up there, I ask if there is a waitress and she now tells me no. Which she coulda let us know considering we were within talking distance of her the whole time and kept looking at her (she saw us because periodically through her conversation she would look at us). Then I order beer and she doesn't tell me until after I order and she pours the beer that they only except cash. I'm just guessing that's something you should prolly have on a sign and tell people up front.
All in all, it wasn't really a huge deal, just a little irritating and its something that could have been a total abnormality. I don't know. But I would go back to this place because it was good and was comfortable.
I met Will and his wife at the 311 & Sublime show in Chula Vista. Â They are a super nice couple anyway they mentioned my friend and I should come down to their bar in PB. Â It's beer and wine, very chill local people. Â Will bar tends, runs a great spot and has stories that'll blow your mind. Â I had the best time in there meeting the locals and enjoying some SD micro brews. Â Also they just renovated the kitchen and Will has this guy Jim in there now who is subletting the kitchen, they make a seriously authentic Philly Cheese steak Thanks Jim! I recommend this bar and the Philly Cheese to anyone! Â You are lucky to be in the presence of such great people like Will and crew. Â Apparently the trivia night does pop off in there this will be the first and last place I hit on every trip to SD.
Review Source:This is wonderful beer and wine bar that caters to a bit of an older but awesome crowd. There are plenty of good local and out-of-area microbrews on tap and in bottle for reasonable prices.
Bartender Willy was amazingly helpful and friendly. Met some good, laid back people.
I did hear (on July 24, 2011) the kitchen is coming back in a month or so.
The bar is cash only. There is an ATM on-site. There is also one pool table.
Local dive bars don't get better than this. If you don't like this place, then you are just a pretentious douche. If you are lucky, a small possum will come in for a drink.
Willy demoted the kitchen and is now serving only pizza and hotdogs. Â Let me tell ya! He makes one hell of a hot dog! In PB, the thing that helps businesses survive are good heart to heart talks. He's the man ! He knows his beers too. Â I like the ambience. It's an older local crowd.
Thanks Willy! You got a great biz!!!!
They accept cash only. Lots of English people hang out here, was fun chatting with them. Saw a cute little yellow convertible with steering wheel on right side.
My friend ordered the BLT and the bread was beyond toasted. I had a fried fish taco, was a little burned, needed more white sauce. We were freezing and looking forward to the little faux fireplace but it was barely warm. Pitcher of Stella was the best thing by far! :)
Happy hour, everyday from 11am-6pm: $1 domestic, and $2 microbrews. Thursday night continues from 6-7pm, same prices as HH. I didnt get any food here, but I was sampling their tator tots, which was pretty good. The food menu looked decent too.
Again...$1 brews...$2 microbrews....this has to be one of the rarest bars in SD that can give you this kinda of a deal..and it's not in the bad part of PB either. It's a bit off from the rest of the bars in PB, which is a good thing actually. No crazy dudes here and there is parking available too.
So I enjoyed my Racer 5, and played trivia with a co-worker here on a Thursday night for a couple of hours. The trivia is fun...its for everyone with random topics too. Dog friendly too. A regular with his dog that normally just hangs out at the entrance that can do dog tricks for a biscuit. Pretty cool stuff. Nice music, one pool table. Plenty of tv's. Pinball machine, ATM and a jukebox.
Cash only here. "No bar tabs, no exceptions, dont ask."
I've tried to go here twice, and both times it was a miserable experience.
Bartenders ignored me both times, second time crazy guy standing out front harassed my friend and me repeatedly.
Entering this bar feels like walking into a loud party where everyone knows each other and you don't know anyone.
Maybe good for regulars, but it's hard to break your way in.
Start with the positive: the frings. Â That was a huge basket of fried tasty. Â The fountain Diet Coke, though, tasted like ass. Â I don't think that was actually Diet Coke. Â Maybe Diet Rite? Â Diet Fanta? Â
The burgers were disappointing mainly because they dissolved into unmanageable piles before either of us could finish ours. Â Mine went first because I ordered the double, so the implosion happened twice as fast. Â The patties themselves, while huge, didn't have a lot of flavor.
It was annoying to have to walk up to the food counter to order food, then to the bar separately to get a beverage. Â I don't need to be waited on, but how about only requiring one stop?
I wouldn't say that I wouldn't go back, because some of the other food being carried to other diners looked pretty good. Â I'll go for a beer or a water for my beverage, though.
Used to make this a regular stop for dinner and a beer. But we stopped going because the food quality had seriously dropped off. Â
Surprise Surprise. Â It seems as if the kitchen is under new management. Â The food this time was excellent. Â Very good Hamburger and a very nice spinach salad. Â Thank you for getting the kitchen back on track.
I haven't been here in a while because... well, I thought the food was falling off a bit since opening the kitchen.
Well, I was back and they had a new menu and things were on point for sure. Â I stayed with my typical fish tacos which seemed smaller than they used to be at the beginning, but way better than they were six months ago. Â
The new menu has a slew of burger and dog combos too, so I'm eager to go back.
On the beer front, they have Racer 5 now, as well as Fat Tire's IPA which I can't recall the name of.
On Mondays and Tuesdays, draft beer is $3, which is a-ok by me!
Stoked again on this place.
I only entered this establishment once, but I left with an overall feeling that this is a place I could visit daily, if I didn't already have so many other regular hang out spots. Â
Sights and tastes witnessed in my brief stay
- Amazing deal on a pint and cheese steak combo
- Older mature woman falling over herself and the rest of the bar helping her and joking around as if this happens all the time at 6pm.
- No pretentious behavior in a relatively full bar (I thought I wasn't in PB for a bit)
I will come back soon because it is so close, but this place is definitely a regulars type of bar. Â
This is not your typical PB bar which could be good or bad depending no your intentions.
Chill Place. I love beer and a lax place to hang, and this place has all that.
It's small that is all about sports and nautical culture. It's not at all "clubby" (they don't even serve liquor) so if you're growing with a group, you might want to take that into consideration. However, if you want to go somewhere that is kind of down to earth, that's just a little-ways north of the sh*t-storm" going on every night South on Garnett, than go to Latitude 32.
Also, there's a young crowd there, but it's not geared for the young club crowd AT ALL, so don't go here to pick up chicks either...unless you want an old cougar that likes beer. Put it this way... You're more likely to find a pirate or a local Rugby team at this place than hot skanks in short dresses from Forever 21.
In short; this place is a really chill and authentic bar. Great of you want beer, sports, and not damn Lil Wayne music
With money on the mind, those (like me) who want to save a few dollars on dinner while enjoying some brew might enjoy their $5.00 dinner plate, available Monday-Friday! The entrees change depending on the day, but I gotta say I love Meatloaf Mondays. Served with a nice sampling of veggies and a huge mound of mashers, you definitely won't leave hungry.
It's hard to beat a good plate of comfort food with a beer after a long Monday.
3.5 stars, really. Â 4 on a good day. Â Let me preface this by saying Latitudes is truly my neighborhood bar and as such I spend waaay too much time there and may be biased. Â But here goes:
(+) Fish tacos! Â $5! Â Huge and packed with fish, cabbage, fresh pico de gallo and white sauce on double-stacked corn tortillas. Â Ask for the Hawaiian hot sauce Wao Nahele - they keep it in the back. Â It's hot, sweet with almost a soy undertone... Â Sometimes the tacos have too many onions but usually they're spot-on.
(+) TJ Dog! Â What more can I say.
(-) Occasional territorial behavior by the pool-playing regulars. Â Be respectful, say hi to Willy and you'll be all good.
This is a decent local dive bar. Cash only. No hard liquor (maybe some potato vodka?). They've got decent breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. They'll also introduce seasonal entrees (ie. St. Patty's day corned beef and cabbage and Irish stew). Probably, their most noteworthy menu item is their JUNGLE WINGS and tater tots! The best in town, I think. Good hang-out to meet up with friends to watch a game and have a beer or pear cider.
Review Source:it's a locals bar. Â you want to be treated well, put in your time. Â if you are gonna cry about it, you can take your frat-tastic ass down to moondoggies or PB bar & grill with everyone else.
willie wants to serve you beer, or wine. Â ask him why no hard alcohol, he'll tell you and then you can stop complaining that it's "beer only". Â and the kitchen at latitude is awesome, brendan makes amazing food and has been expanding and improving the menu ever since the kitchen opened.
and just because there are regulars that know each other, i've never seen a "non-regular" treated any differently (it's generally not a good business plan to scare away potential future regulars).
I agree with "If you're not a regular you're not welcome"
I live around the corner, and am still not welcome.  My roommate and I walked in and sat down and the bartender came flying over to our table to ask for ID's.  After she checked them she left.  Didn't offer drinks, menus anything.  Turns out if you want service you have to squeeze in between greasy dudes at the  bartop and wait like 20 mins until they feel like helping you (that is when it's NOT busy)
On top of that you pay way too much for pretty much whatever drinks. Â Check out Froggy's on Turqoise, that's a great local hangout.
"If you're not a regular, you're not welcome".
Thats what should be hanging on the front door of this hole.
If you like hanging out with grumpy middle-aged men who dont have jobs, giving tips to rude bartenders for bad service, getting your ID grilled like its a fake, paying too much for watered down beer, last call at 11:30 and the Red Sox, then you'll LOVE this dump.
But I dont so f Latitude 32
Went to this place on a spur of the moment last night and I must say I LOVED IT. Â this is the best local yocal hole in the wall bar.
What I loved was the FOOD. Â BEST FRENCH DIP EVER. Â You heard that right...FRENCH DIP. Â NO JOKE AMAZING. Â
SO MUCH Food...GREAT price. Â
Everyone is super friendly...super nice.  Older and  younger.  Just a fantastic spot.  Plan to go back again and again and again!
Union Jack flags covered the ceiling above our hero's head as he kicked it at Latitude 32 (which is named after Pacific Beach's distance relative to the equator). Â Although it didn't exactly feel like a British pub, our hero had a grand old time here before they closed down way too early.
PROS:
- PBR on tap, pitchers for $8.25!
- Neighborhood pub vibe with a fresh from the beach crowd.
CONS:
- Beer only. Â No hard stuff.
- Cash only. Â ATM available at the back of the bar.
- Last call at 11:45 on a FRIDAY NIGHT?!?!? Â Are you serious?
I don't know why but I assumed that a place with the name "Latitude 32" would be one of those swanky, urban schmancy places. Â Boy, was I surprised when we rolled up to L32. Â It's kind of a hole in the wall, and easy to miss. Â As soon as we rolled up, the bartender came by to let us know the specials and the rundown after asking if we'd been there before. Â Oh, and to check our IDs...guess we are youngin's. Â They have two sizes for beer, naturally I got the big one, Molson. Â It was $4.75; not bad at all considering the size. Â
My friend ordered the chili cheese steak and scarfed it the eff down, along with some fries that were really hard not to steal. Â We just chilled for awhile, shootin' the shit. Â
The bathrooms are clean. Â I had fun admiring the decor all over the walls, and was especially glad to see an Aussie flag and an old ad for the champagne of beers, with the lady in the moon.
I've gone here a few times while doing laundry across the street. Â One night, I was starving, so I sucked it up and ordered a fish taco, which I assumed would suck. Â I was completely wrong. Â It was fantastic, and only $2 (I think it was a "special" that night, though). Â Good beer selection and one of those spots where you can sit by yourself and talk to the bartender as the fabric softener kicks in.
Review Source:"Lottadudes" is a good beer bar -- they have Ballast Point and they serve it in 20 oz. glasses that make it taste even better. Â You will not score any chicks here unless you brought them yourself, but sometimes you don't need that kind of aggravation. Â Comfortable, good bar snacks, good pool tables, and a nice upholstered bench thing by the window for observing any hot chicks on the smoking deck (sidewalk). Â A good place if you don't require a ton of deep flavor in your decor.
