I stopped by for a late lunch by myself & sat at the bar. Menu is standard bar food. I ordered the BLT & it came out within 5-10 minutes. Decent portion that came with waffle fries. I thought it was cool that some of the booths had their own TVs the size of an iPad. Service was friendly, wouldn't seek this place out though.

My honey and I stopped in around 3pm last week for a quick bite.  Place had 2 girls drinking at the bar and it is a dark confusing entry.  The main door is on the corner of the building and you walk into a stairwell.  There is a door for the Legends on the ground floor and a sign guiding people up to a different business too.  It just didn't flow well once inside either.  Strange to me.

The young waitress that seated us, handed us menus that were sticky with food and sauce....on every page.  I immediately wondered about the cleanliness of everything I couldn't see.  The waitress recommended the spinach dip which had nicely warmed pita style chips.  The dip was OK.  I decided to try the Legends Chicken sandwich and was pleasantly surprised.  The waffle fries were alright too.  My honey had the Kyle Burger and said it was good.

Our waitress said she had to pick up her child from school so another waitress would close us out.  They were nice, but I agree with the previous reviews that this did not seem to be a happening place nor worth the cost.

Place is pretty bad.  My first beer was flat/tasteless from the draft.  I sat outside and watched the football games.  Televisions were pretty good.  The bar had a bunch of flies around kind of gross.    The food was really bad and expensive.  Additionally, the service was poor.  The waitress first took the order wrong.  Finally we got our food.. I had steak sandwich.  It was a strip put on a bun.  Quite horrible.  Fat all over the thing, and not tender at all.  I took the steak off the bun and just ate it plain.  The fries were decent as was the bread.  The salad dressing was gross.  I tried some raspberry vinaigrette.  It came to the table as some bright purple dressing, and tasted like fruit loops.  I will never return and don't reccomend anybody go.

The only thing I loved about this place was its Spicy Spinach dip! The kick in the spiciness definitely balanced out the creaminess of spinach dip.

But sadly, other than that... and the nice TVs for watching the Bruins game, everything else fell short and was only average.

This location is the best among all of the Des Moines locations. Its located directly under Liars Club and we have probably eaten here a dozen times. The bar is nice, the wait staff good and its in the heart of the court street action.

I swear some people have way to high of standards when going into some establishments.  I for one have been going to Legend's for years, and some of the problems listed below with both bad service and bad food have to be isolated occurrences or just proof in the theory that if you get good service nobody says anything but if you get bad service you tell the world about it.  Legend's is a local chain that bears resemblance to the Applebee's/Chili's variety.  It's a sports bar themed restaurant that serves decent food at decent prices.  The food isn't gourmet and isn't going to be shown on any Food Network specials any time soon but it's still good pub food.  They have a wide variety of sandwiches and burgers and a handful of full sized entrees.  The New Orleans chicken is a good stand by on the menu.  They have a pretty decent selection of beers on tap as well.  Trust me people, Legend's isn't that bad, and there are worse places in town that you could end up eating at.

Legends Restaurant slogan should be "legendary poor service mixed with forgettable food".

I have been to legends' 3 times.   Every time, the service has been terrible.  Every time, this restaurant seems disorganized and staffed by people that want to be anywhere but at work.

One waitress in particular has a messy rat's nest of dyed black and bleached blonde hair, which looks not only dirty but is disgusting.   I would have sent her home in a heartbeat if she was my employee and I am tempted to call the health department.

When you first walk in you wait for the hostess to acknowledge you, (5min) then she looks for a clean table. (5 min).  I have never seen a staff that moved so slow or took so long to clean a simple 4 top table.
Then you sit for 5-15 minutes for the wait staff.  They tell you they will be right with you and you wait another 15 minutes for a drink order and menus.  After another 15 minutes you see the wait staff again and place your order.  You have been in this place for over a half an hour and have not even placed your order.

The food is poor, honestly, I love food but it is barely above fast food standards.  We always have to wait for the check and then the wait staff tries to win us over with small talk at the last minute.

We over heard other tables also upset with the poor food and service.
The location is good, but the actual experience is terrible.  I hate this place.

Do yourself a favor and just go to Arby's, it will be better food and give you another hour added onto your life.

I have been here three times in the last year and all three times I hated this place.

I am just not a really big fan of Legends.  I've been here several times since it opened and it seems like whether it's with food or service, I've had some kind of problem every single time.

First of all, it's a great location for a sports bar - bottom floor of the 3rd and Court building, below all the other bars - and it's very convenient to everything that happens downtown.  It's one of the only places you can go if there are under-21s in your group, and they usually serve food pretty late at night (both are rarities in downtown).

The main problem is... the food.  Even just comparing it to an average sports bar standard, it's not good.  The last reviewer hit the nail right on the head when she said everything came from a freezer.  It all tastes like it came prepackaged right off the food service truck.  When you have the wonderful Des Moines farmer's market right outside your front door every week, you'd think you could manage to put out food that tastes, I don't know... fresh?

The second problem is service.  It is almost always terrible - many times we have ended up leaving our table to go order drinks at the bar. The servers are not friendly and often act like they just don't care. Now, I'd imagine that on Court Avenue they must get a lot of drunk, belligerent customers... but that's no reason to treat everyone like their presence is a personal affront.

The last time I came to Legends, I called a couple of days ahead and told them we'd be bringing in a big group (around 35 people) at 11pm.  No problem, they said.  Once we got there, they didn't have anywhere to put us, and couldn't even seat us until 11:30 when they had enough tables cleared.  To cap it all off, we had one server.  For 40 people.  I am not kidding.  It took 45 minutes to start getting the first checks, and there were so many errors that several checks had to be changed and re-run (how could there NOT be errors when you have one server taking care of 40 people)?  To say the least, I don't bring big groups here anymore - and I doubt I could ever give the food another shot either.

Pros: fun atmosphere, TV at table (first I've ever seen like that), free drink refills
Cons: food was awful and expensive

I ate the mahi mahi with rice pilaf and steamed veggies. Every bit of it came from a freezer, nothing fresh and it was $16. My friends had burgers though, and they smelled good. I sampled the waffle fries and they were delicious, like the Arby's curly fries.  As for service, the waiter was inattentive (it was busy though). Bonus: I ordered some cottage cheese to go, which he purposely didn't charge me for.

Conclusion: this is bar food, don't expect a lot. This is two stars because it is a sports bar; I wouldn't expect great fish anyway. There's better food nearby on Court Ave though.

Probably the best meal I've had the entire time I was in Des Moines.  The service was great (sat at the bar), they had a good local brew, and the burger was actually cooked Medium as ordered.  I've only been here once before, and it was just drinks.  At that time it was kind of busy, and we sat in the back room - hence the service sucked.  But today, a slow day, at the bar, everything was great.  Overall - your typical bar food, but tasty and at a pretty good price.
