This morning, my Husby and I went to Little Anita's for a late breakfast. My Husby is a breakfast burrito lover, so we felt we had to check them out! I ordered the rancheros skillet and my Husby ordered the chorizo skillet. They were both delicious! The service was prompt and anything we needed was readily available. My only disappointment was that I had ordered my eggs over-medium and they were over-easy. It is the one thing in good I don't tolerate well and resulted in my husband finishing my plate. I don't feel this should detract from their rating and would definitely eat there again, only emphasize the doneness of my eggs.

Also, they didn't serve my plate with a tortilla that says to be included in the description. They do only give you on tortilla per plate which I feel is not enough, so you have to get a side order of them.

Tried this place yesterday based on yelp recommendations near where our dog's vet appointment was. So glad we found this little gem.. Very authentic. I had the breakfast burrito with chorizo, potatoes, egg and smothered with green chili. The green chili was delicious! Not a ton of room for seating, but other than that, a great find!

Ok sometimes I go through what I call ethnic food phases.  Sometimes I just crave Mexican, Thai, Chinese or Italian.  This has been the week for Mexican for me.  It started with breakfast here.  Big portions, spicy chorizo and flavorful salsas.  I ate bfast here and wasn't hungry till sometime in the afternoon.  They're nice friendly people.  this is quick no nonsense New Mexican food.  Although I didn't get lunch or dinner here I noticed they come with Sopapillas with and thats always a plus for me!

YUM!  Some of the best Chile rellenos I've had in CO. And for under $9 the combo platter with rice, beans and sopapillas is a great deal and  ends up being two meals. I definitely plan to return soon!

For $5 and some change, one can get a pretty sizeable breakfast burrito with veggie green chile on the inside AND outside with two free freshly made sopapillas.  You really can't beat it and for that reason, Little Anita's will be working itself into my lunchtime rotation more often.

There was a period of time when their veggie green chile was not technically vegetarian (made with beef broth) but it has since been resolved (or I'll pretend it has, 'cause it's just so good).

It's a place where you walk in and order and then sit down.  Since I was just picking up, I awkwardly stood there (fortunately not for long) so next time I'd probably call in my order before leaving work.  The restaurant is small and busy.  They have a sizeable amount of decent sounding New Mexican options (with a decent amount of veggie options) but my one true love is the breakfast burrito.

Such good food. New Mexican, done quick and well. I actually sometimes crave the shredded beef. Great sopapillas. The only negative to this location is its size. The seating area is small and crowded, so if you're going for lunch, go early.

New Mexico cusine is one of my favorites and I wish this place would take a little more pride in the food they serve.  It's good, but it could be great.

Great Mexican breakfast at excellent prices.

The chorizo and eggs was excellent and packed with tons of flavor.  The green chile was fantastic with just the right amount of spiciness and so good on top of the eggs.  It was also erved with a tasty flour tortilla, and after I finished I was extremely happy.

The service was quick and the prices are really cheap, Little Anita's is pretty great.

    First time visit.

Salsa is spicy but good. Queso worth skipping, but based on what came with the food, the guac is worth getting.

I had the nachos with shredded beef. The beef was very good. They use real cheese on their nachos and it was a bit crispy on the edges--yum.

My husband had a combination platter and liked everything. I thought the rice was very good as well.

They serve complimentary sopapillas, which was kind of cool.

Nice hole in the wall on Colorado for authentic, not overly greasy Mexican food.

    Yum.

Good breakfast burritos.  Good green chile.  Great prices.

Does not beat satiagos, but its different.  More restaurant-ish than Santiagos, somehow.  Santigos is a pick up burritos place.  This place is fine to go in and sit down and have a cheap breakfast with a coke.

I love it that its in my neighborhood, and its cheap and good.

When visiting the west, Mexican is a must eat. The New England region has "okay" Mexican but we don't go out of our way to get it there.

Our hosts brought us to Little Anita's for a late dinner last Saturday after skiing.
The place was empty except for maybe 2 or 3 employees-- I think this is mostly a lunch place. They gave us some chips and salsa (real salsa, and super hot to my taste). We ordered some margaritas and each of us ordered a combination plate. I ordered the #7 combination plate:

A small beef burrito, pork tamale, and a cheese enchilada, topped with cheddar cheese and red or green chile. ($10.50)- see picture.

I picked the green chile and oh-my-lord- my eyelids were sweating. A very filling, huge meal for un poco dinero.

At the end of the meal, they brought us these hollow pastries (like fried dough) and some honey to put on top. I wish I could remember what they were called, but I believe they were complimentary. They were a light, perfect ending to a delicious meal.

We were the only customers in there, it seemed, so we had our server's attention and he was very kind.

Little Anita's has by far the best Green Chili in Denver! You can purchase it by the quart or pint and it's a great addition to any meal you cook at home.

They also serve up great breakfast burritos and sopapillas! It a very casual atmosphere and small space, but the food makes up for the lack of ambiance. Yum!

Not certain how but I have an enchilada to pick with this place. I am uncertain how fellow yelpers can rate this place any higher than 2 stars. I expected so much more from a "dive" with such authentic staff and menu. We had the enchilada and the tacos and they were mediocre at best. The guacamole was "off" and the food tasted just average.
The green chile was the best part of the dish but overall it did little to spark up the overall taste qualities. The lack of A/C on a hot day and dirty tables did not help either.
Maybe we missed the sparks that others saw or we were there on an "off" day but the overall experience was mediocre enough that I will not think about this place in the near future.

Good Mexican and delicious green chili. I wouldn't bother with the red, not because its bad but because the green is so much better.

Their breakfast burritos are great. Good clean eggs, chili and cheese. They are something you can have in the morning and not feel gross about all day.

Don't just drive past, make the effort and go in. You wont be disappointed.

I went here once on a whim. It is really close by and I haven't found much for Mexican food around me besides Santiagos

I went here pretty late. I actually wasn't sure if they were still open, but they were!

I don't know if this is a regular menu item, but on there specials they had fajitas. As a big guy with a big appetite and a love for the most basic of Mexican food, I went for it.

Everything was delicious. Not better or not worse than you could have anywhere else. Everything tasted awesome. Sopapilla at the end was equally awesome, except in my case, no honey anywhere.

I should try to frequent this place more often.

On a side note, I saw many people coming in and ordering things to go. May have to try this option soon, as the dining room is small. Seems like a good little niche though.

While out running errands on Saturday afternoon, I found myself craving some Mexican food.  We were already driving south down Colorado Boulevard, and though I was aware of a couple of chain restaurants along the stretch of road, I was hoping to find something more unique and authentic.  That was when my wife found Little Anita's New Mexican on her phone, and after checking the reviews we decided to give it a try.  At the time I wasn't aware that the location was just one of a dozen locations in Denver and Albuquerque.  We arrived at the small restaurant contained in a strip mall and quickly found a table that would be agreeable with our newborn son.  I stayed back with him while my wife went to the counter to order.

It was hard to see the menu from our table, but I agreed that she could pick out a combination plate that I would enjoy.  She decided on the #4 combo which had a chile relleno along and two cheese enchiladas served with rice and beans as well as green chile on top of it all.  My wife ordered the chicken stuffed sopapilla, also smothered with green chile and served with rice and beans.  I started with the enchiladas which were tightly rolled corn tortillas with some tasty cheese inside.  Immediately I could tell that the star of this meal would be the green chile, which was delicious!  Moving on to the chile relleno, which I found to be too thick with batter and not to my liking.  My wife's stuffed sopapilla was also very good.  So two great items out of three wasn't too bad.  I would just skip the relleno in the future.

To top it all off, each meal comes with a sopapilla and honey for dessert.  Though they are no more than fried dough, they were very tasty, especially when filled with honey.  Overall I was very pleased to have discovered this fine little New Mexican restaurant.  Apparently I'm not the only fan though, as there was actually a line for tables halfway through our visit.  One couple's food was even ready before they had a table open to sit at.

I went here hearing that it was a good breakfast place...it was not.  They may have good breakfast food but anytime I have to wait in line to order my breakfast food, I'm not happy.

Instead, I went with their lunch specials that were about $5.  I was actually glad with the food that I did get and the portion size.  The green sauce was awesome and something I've never really had before at a Mexican joint.

The atmosphere is rather lame so just come in for a quick bite and then leave.  Not really a dinner or a date place but a good place for a simple and tasty meal.

I think I've eaten here at least once a week for a year.  Despite this, I haven't tried much of the menu due to my love for their burritos.  Little Anita's definitively has some of the best breakfast burritos in Denver, hands down.  Their steak or chicken burritos, smothered in their amazing green chili, are also delicious.

I usually call my orders in ahead, but the staff has always been very prompt and courteous.

Also, a sopapilla with every order.  Yes!

FINALLY REAL REAL REAL NEW MEXICAN GREEN AND RED CHILE!!!!!!! I moved here from New Mexico in August and as time went on I became desperate for some green chile. Unfortunately all of the green chile in this state is some strage stew-like sauce made with pork every time.
One day driving down Colorado Blvd. I look over and there it was, Little Anita's; I stopped immediately.  Really amazing New Mexican style cuisine for cheap! I will continue to go here as long as I live in Colorado!

I went here over the weekend for breakfast burritos.  Generally my husband and I eat at Santiago's but decided to try something different and so this is my take on Little Anita's.

Anita's gets a star for being able to pick your breakfast meat.  I like that I can have whatever meat I want any day I want.

They also get a star for their green chili- Only one star, though, because it is not spicy and if you want to get extra spicy you get red salsa instead and they never told me that when I ordered.

One star for there being no line at 9am on a Sunday.

They lose stars for the following reasons- That was the greasiest burrito I have ever eaten- Having grease run down my hand and arm is not my favorite way to start my day.  Also, I found the people that worked there to be rather unfriendly.  Finally, the burritos are EXPENSIVE- $8 for two burritos is crazy, and they were not large at all.

Final word on it- It's not that Santiago's is better than Little Anita's or vice versa, they are just different styles of food and restaurant.  My preference will be for Santiago's but I won't bash anyone for liking or loving Little Anita's.

I've frequented Little Anita and her little haven for quite a few years and every time I go back I wonder why I don't eat there more. Probably because I wouldn't be able to yelp as much. Yeah, that's the reason.

Anyway, the reason for my review now is the calabacitas, and the vegetarian quesadillas, which I had not tried until recently trying to eat less meat. Of course in the summer when I'm trying to get rid of zucchini and squash I make my own calabacitas and can get sick of the dish, but in the cold month of January Little Anitas' calabacitas eliminated my winter blues in one fell swoop. The veggies weren't mushy or watery, which can easily happen when dealing with zucchini as a main ingredient. There wasn't so much spice as to cover the flavor of the veggies but enough to warm me up.  Not too greasy, not too cheesy, just perfect. Just like I make at home. Now THAT is not something that can easily be said by most restaurants.

Of course I will always pay tribute to my favorites here: the chile rellenos, the green chile, and the sopapillas. But enough other people wrote about those. So if you haven't ever tried vegetarian new-mexican, try out some calabacitas at Little Anitas, and you can thank me later!

I was born and raised in Los Angeles so maybe I'm a bit harsh here but this place is for the kind of people who don't know what true Mexican cuisine should taste like, hell maybe even smell like.  But for this guy here who grew up with Hispanic friends who's mothers created works of art in the kitchen, I should have known better.
I ordered chicken enchilada's...the chicken was cut in dry cubes, the cheese was predominately oil based so the plate was a orange sea of grease, cheap supermarket tortillas and pace picante sauce nightmare.  AND they didn't have HORCHATA!  I should have walked out but when hunger calls a man of 6 feet and 205 lbs it doesn't summons subtly.
Go to Taco Bell...at least you know what you're getting.

I have eaten here twice over the past weekend - first time I tried the stuffed sopapilla with carne adovado and the green chili at the recommendation of the women at the counter.  Very tasty, I didn't get the sides (beans & rice) since this was my first time I wasn't sure how big the meal was going to be and I didn't want to go back to work stuffed.  Just the sopapilla was plenty for a quick lunch.

The next time I tried the breakfast burrito with green chili and sausage.  I really liked the breakfast burrito and can see it as being a craving food when I am in the area.  Plus the prices are very appealing.  I definitely plan on going back to try to chili relleno - my all time favorite Mexican dish.

Yes, it is a simple little "hole in the strip mall" but what it lacks in size and atmosphere it makes up for with the real deal New Mexican cuisine.  I grew up eating Little Anita's home style New Mexican cooking in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.  Eating here takes me home.  The food is so different than the typical Colo/Mex you find most places in Denver.

Really, I've never had anything I didn't like here but the standards for me are the chile rellenos smothered with their wonderfully flavorful green chile and the carne adovado burrito.  The carne is simmered low and slow in a deep red chile sauce and it's so tender.  Dinners come with some of the best sopapillas in town.  So, the food is 5 star in my book but the lack of a comfortable environment and the counter service model loses a star.  I usually just get the food to go and enjoy it with a good homemade margarita.

This is some good Mexican. I am a fan of the relleno - I generally get it every time I eat Mexican. I love green chili and Little Anita did not disappoint. You have a choice of green or red and I recommend trying them both (not at the same time)!
The queso dip was a bit strange. I have had a lot of different queso's but this was just odd. Orange (curious as to what kind of cheese this was), but with bits of chili (not the sliced, long strips). It was good, just odd.

The space is small. The prices are very reasonable. It's not a full service restaurant, so don't get your hopes, up but the staff is friendly and smiley, like I like. My people. Friendly and Smiley go a long way in my book.
The service was also speedy, even though there was a line and it was packed. Surprising, in a good way.
    Two thumbs up L.A.

New Mexican doesn't really get any better than Little Anita's. This very small gem arrived in Denver from Albaquerque NM several years ago and the quality of the food remains high although sadly the prices keep going up. Be warned that this is not the place for a long chatty lunch with your best friend or business associate as the seating is limited and there is usually someone (like me) leering at you in hopes that you'll give up your seat before the food arrives.

My red chili is very smooth, and flavorful but I prefer the green as it is packed full of delicious Hatch chilies and is spiced perfectly. The chicken enchiladas are stacked versus rolled and include lots of chunky chicken and just the appropriate amount of cheese (not doused in cheese like most tex-mex places). I also like the carne adovada burrito (with red) - very spicy and great. My husband loves the simple bowl of green chili which comes with chunks of pork and refried beans accompanied with warm tortillas. It's the best deal on the menu.

They also have a killer breakfast burrito which I've been known to pick up early on a Sunday morning - when there are lots of seats available.

Each meal comes with a fresh, hot sopapilla - the perfect accent to they spicy meal.

Little Anita's staff is always friendly and capable.

If you enjoy "New Mexican" style, you'll enjoy Little Anita's - just don't plan on lingering.

I order the same thing every time I go there - a chicken burrito smothered in green chile.  I'm telling you, the green chile is the best that I have ever had.  No joke.

I can't rate the other menu items because I haven't had any other menu items that stick out as being very bad or very good.  The sopaipilla are good too, but you have to eat them right away ( I'm sure this is a known Mexican food fact).

The main drawback to Little Anita's is the size.  The place is a hole in the wall.  If you eat there you basically have to look at the people standing in line against the wall who are waiting to order (or waiting for you).  The seating is not first-come-first-serve, but rather "get to the open table before they do" so you have to be quick as a cat and pretty bold if the place is packed and you want a seat.

Updating my review because this is a solid 5 star place in my book.

I haven't had much off the menu. I stick to the same few things-
Chicken Enchilada Plate (sometimes I get the blue corn, YUMMY and worth the extra $1)
Sopapilla burger, with extra green chile
    Sopapillas galore with honey!
Chips and Salsa (too bad it's not free)

I haven't tried anything else here, and I like it that way. I'm open to trying more off their menu as I bet everything else is just as good, but I like what I like. I will say it again: THIS IS THE BEST GREEN CHILE IN DENVER.

Also, the restaurant is very small - so I suggest takeout.

I think the trick to this place is to order the combination plates.  While the breakfast burritos and the other stuff here are great, I think the combination plates are what really make this place way above average.

My 2 favorites are the New Mexican Combination Plate and the #5 which is a steak combination plate, and I'm not even sure if it's on the menu all the time.  But it is on their web site and they know exactly what I'm talking about when I order it.  So try it.  But be aware these are not exactly light meals.

My mother is from New Mexico and we would spend every summer there growing up.  Needless to say I love New Mexican food, especially good green chile.  I have not actually tried too many things, but everything i had was delicious.

My first experience was tamales and they were not the best I've ever had but the sauce was delicious.

I really love their breakfast burritos.  They are simple and so good.  I either get the chorizo or bacon, potatoe burritos christmas style; red and green chile.  I have gotten their burritos for my husband and his coworkers and they all agreed  they were the best they'd had.

Give them a try, you will not be sorry.

I would prefer chips and salsa to start rather than the fried dough that comes with the meal.  I thought the selections were a bit overpriced, especially for a place where you need to order at a counter and get your own drink.

I was a bit put off by the tone I got at the register when I said I wanted to dine in the restaurant.  The cashier didn't bother to give me a cup for my fountain drink, nor did she point out where I could get them--it was like I had to be an employee for myself.  No one was that helpful, and trying to figure out where the line started was a bit ridiculous.

Probably the best green chile that I've had in Colorado!  It is SO fresh and flavorful.  Really yum.

That said, I wasn't impressed much with the rest of the food.  We got the queso to start (nothing more than Velveeta with some green chile mixed in), chips that were pretty stale, blue corn enchiladas, a burrito, and one other dish that I can't remember (obviously very memorable!).  It was fine-tasting, but nothing out of this world.  And, despite the fact that we ate in the restaurant, our food was served in to-go containers.  How wasteful!  It also cheapened the food - like we were somehow eating Mexican fast food from styrofoam and aluminum.  Not a fan.

I would come back for the Green Chile - but nothing else.

I always enjoy the food when I visit New Mexico, but until I ate at Little Anita's have never been able to find it anywhere else.  The blue corn plate is perfect as well as the carne asada sampler plate. I've tried both red and green chili and enjoyed them both. They even have breakfast dishes like huevos rancheros.

If you want New Mexican food in Denver, this is the place.

Have you ever stopped to think about what restaurant you've been to the most times in your life?  As a recovering vegetarian I can thankfully say that it's not fast food for me - I can't handle the stuff they call meat at most fast food places, so I just don't eat it.  I think the place I've been the most - let's be kind and just call it "dozens of times" - is Little Anita's.

And now I must admit I'm handing out a five-star review based on one dish: the breakfast burrito.  Eggs, potatoes, cheese and the most rockin' vegetarian green chile in the state, preferably extra green chile in fact.  It's hot enough to get the sinuses rolling, just the right size when you're really hungry, and here's the best part - they serve it all day.  You can order it hand-held and to go and be out the door in 3 minutes, or you can get it smothered in extra green chile and sit down to savor the moment.  Most days you get a free sopapilla and honey, too, just in case there's still some room for your sweet tooth.

One time I tried a tamale (tasted like corn bread, and they didn't even pretend to put it in a husk) and there was a burrito adventure that was unmemorable, so I've come to terms with the fact that I no longer need to stray.

    See you next week, Little Anita's . . .

    10APR2012

Another fine lunch. The 1/2-order of cheese nachos is a great bargain. Chips, refritos, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalapeños, olives. Hefty and tasty.

    09JAN2010

Excellent customer service at the regional level. I bought a jar of salsa and was charged sales tax. I decided not to try and educate the cashier about Denver sales tax rules. I did complain on the corporate website and the Regional Manager called me to ask: "where do you want the 28 cents sent". I laughed and we had a pleasant conversation. They no longer charge sales tax on the jars of salsa.

    15JAN2009

Still a fan. We ate lunch here (again) this afternoon. I had the best bargain not on the menu -- the bowl of green chili at $3.25. It is more than just chiles as it contains meat and beans. They recently removed it from the menu so you have to ask for it.
I also had the dessert sopapilla with enough honey to shove into a diabetic coma. Delicious.

    29MAY2008

This is the first Denver outpost of the Alberqueque family-owned chain.
We have been eating here at least once a month every since they opened years ago.

The good is New Mexican style. The taste is great and the prices are very reasonable.

This place has the best mexican food in Denver in my opinion. The special N.M. plate is where it's at. Nothing fancy here you just come in order your food and take a seat. The location off colorado blvd I always thought was the best but I also go to the one off yosemite and now I think they are just as good.

Little anitas also has some of the  best breakfast burritos around. Be sure to try them out for breakfast.

I mostly get the gut bomb known as the "Burrito Grande". I have got it so much in fact that the cooks laugh at me when I come in and start singing their gringo buys Burrito Grande song. It is quite hilarious. Basically it is a huge breakfast burrito smothered in green or red Chile.  People are amazed when I finish it in one sitting. Oh ya, and they have some other food that is good too lol. Try it out for lunch or breakfast.  If you are attempting to be healthy or watching your weight then it isn't probably the best choice. I don't think Little Anita is little anymore lol.

Anyway, it is a New Mexico fast food style restaurant.  I can't eat their much anymore for fear of becoming a look alike of a Mexican Buddha. And of course we all know the beans, beans the musical fruit song. But I still get the craving and go once a month to retrieve me a giant burrito.
