I'll preface this by saying my wife and I frequent the Llywelyn's in the CWE and have always enjoyed it. We live in Ellisville and were excited to hear we were going to get "our own" Llywelyn's.
We've been there three times and here's the recap:
FIRST VISIT: Despite there being 7-10 tables open we waited 45 minutes for a table. They explained the wait was due to being short staffed in the kitchen. I ordered the Lamb Stew in a bread bowl and though the stew was good there was no bread bowl. Only, a few pieces of pita bread. The waitress said they were out of bread bowls but she could get me more pita. I said she should have let me known they were out of bread bowls when I ordered and she said "yeah, I guess so". I also got the lamb burger sliders and they were terrific. After being seated it took 20 minutes to get our appetizers.
SECOND VISIT: Went with a group of ten and as before waited for 45 minutes despite there being numerous open tables in the main dining area. Same explanation that they were short on kitchen help. I suggested the lamb stew to a friend and he asked the waitress if they had bread bowls. She said they did and proceeded to bring it in a regular bowl with some pita slices. We asked to speak with the manager. Didn't get his name but he was a bald guy with a surly attitude. He told us their gross receipts were much higher than expected and cannot anticipate how many bread bowls they need. Gross receipts? What am I, his accountant? He gave my friend an extra small bowl of the lamb stew, scowled and walked away. After we ordered it took 30 minutes to get any food to our table.
THIRD (FINAL?) VISIT: Went with another couple at 5:30 on Sunday. As before, numerous tables in the main area open and a 30 minute wait to be seated. The food was OK but the waiter was snotty and put out whenever we asked for a refill on our teas or another beer. Â
Being a fan of Llywelyn's Pub in the CWE, I really want this location to succeed, however so far two of our three waiters have been rude, the General Manager seems disinterested and the food have been inconsistent, at best. Unless, Llywelyn's ownership gets a "boots on the ground" presence there to turn things around, they will not succeed.
Wow What a huge disappointment. Besides trying to set a reservation since last night to be seated 45 minutes after arriving to waiting two hours to get our food. Food was not good. Wasn't hot and just overall a bad idea to eat there. Very disappointing because we've had such good experiences at the one downtown. Bad food, bad service long wait = not returning.
Review Source:EXTREMELY EXTREMELY LOUD! Â plan on texting your table mates to be able to communicate with them! Â First visit to a Llywelyn's and had a super snotty waiter. Â He took all our plates away before we were done eating and gave snide answers to our questions. Â Really really disappointing. Â Forty five minute wait to get seated and an hour to get our food.
Review Source:I was between a 3-4 star for this place, but because I came on opening weekend and that's always crazy for the staff, I'll give them a four. Â This pub is a welcomed addition to Wildwood because there are very limited casual places to eat around here unless you stick to the same places that have been around forever (Fraileys, Mulligans, etc..) so I was really excited to see that finally someone put in a well known chain restaurant in this area! Â We had a large party who came around 5 p.m. on a Friday and the place was already jam packed. Â Luckily we got a table right away. Â The layout was nice, there was plenty of space for tables and a large bar area in the front with plenty of seating and large TV's if you wanted to watch the game. Â Our waitress was very nice but she did forget to put in an appetizer order for us, but again, it was opening weekend and the place was nuts, so I get it. Â They were nice enough to still give it to us after our meals were delivered and not charge us, which was much appreciated. Â We tried a lot of everything over the course of the night. Â Started off with the 'dragon wings' which we loved, the spinach artichoke dip which tasted much better and creamier than your run of the mill bar spin-dip and lastly the calamari appetizer which was the forgotten app, but honestly it was just ok. Â It was tossed in a spicy buffalo sauce and just had too much going on for me, I would think just the fried calamari by itself with a great sauce on the side would be better for most people's taste. Â They have a great happy hour until 6 p.m. which included beer, house wine and well drinks. Â For dinner we had pot pie (which I didn't try but I heard it was very good), burgers, white bean chili and black bean veggie burger. Â Everything was good but I would have to say the black bean burger was mediocre. Â It was almost all bean tasting without the flavor of the veggies mixed in, so it was very mushy. Â Not bad, but I just think less beans, more veggies in the mix and everyone else who tried it agreed. Â Everyone who worked there seemed very nice and we will definitely be back. Â This place should have no problem doing well in Wildwood.
