We went there on Wednesday night since we saw that the special that night was half off all the "world beer club" beers. Â
From outside, the bar looks like it's a first floor of a 2 story house. Â It's also set as a neighborhood bar with a small parking lot in the back. Â After entering from the front door, it takes some time for you eyes to adjust to the dim lighting. Â For a Wednesday night, the place looked packed. Â After we sat down, we happily proceeded to order the "world beers club" beers only to find out that you must have been a member by the day before to qualify. Â This was really a bummer and that is why I am giving the place 3 stars. Â Nowhere on the website or the Facebook page does it talk about that requirement. Â I understand the reason whey this rule is in place but there is no reason for them not to declare it on their website. Â We then just decided to suck it up and pay full price for the beers. Â The beers were served quickly and were delicious.
If you are looking for a neighborhood bar with good beer list then this is a good place. Â Don't bring your first date here as the place has that dingy kind of a feeling. Â On the plus side, the popcorn is free, so, go ahead, bring your first date here.
Amazing!!
I love the comfortable feel, the friendly staff and the wonderful drinks. I grew up in Grand Rapids and have gone to Logan's Alley for 8 years. Â I've celebrated my birthday, enjoyed dinner with friends and of course St. Patty's Day at this amazing pub. There's always something to do whether you'd like to play music on the jukebox, try out the pool table or compete in darts and don't forget the live music on the weekends. Â I moved out of state a few months ago and this is the one place I wish I could take with me.
Being in the same family as Graydon's Crossing and Derby Station, the food is good, unique, and locally-sourced for the most part. Logan's focuses on bar-type food as its distinction from the other properties. I have eaten there a few times and everything has been very good. I am a fan of Graydon's food and it has a lot of similarities. The specials always look excellent and you have to try the onion rings (same for all 3 restaurants) at least once. They also honor coupons that you can redeem from Grand Rapids recycling reward points, so that's a plus. Not sure if having a BOGO coupon affects my perception of the food that much, but it sure doesn't hurt it.
Beer selection is ample. It rotates constantly, so what you want off of the list may not necessarily be on tap at that very moment. I believe they have fewer taps than Graydon's but they have a big bottle selection.
Service has been hit-or-miss with me. It seems basically that they are understaffed, as every time I have gone, my server seems overly busy. As to be expected, some servers can cope better than others with that. Sometimes the bartenders are the servers as well, which seems sort of inefficient. it's hard to flag down your server when he is busy behind the bar. However a few servers I have had were helpful in beer selection, as it should be.
Be aware that it can get loud/ rowdy in there.
I shouldn't base my review on one staff member, but...we just did not have a good time. Our server was more concerned about being noticed  and having fun with the other staff than serving her customers. Everytime we wanted a drink we had to flag her down, never did she stop by and ask how we were doing. Yet she had time to flirt and laugh a lot. I think the other staff members knew and helped where they could.
The beer was good and the prices were good as well. I'll go back and avoid her next time.
I'd never thought I'd say this.... but this bar makes me wish I lived in Grand Rapids. Or that I could just transport it to Chicago. Â It's got great MI brews on draft and while I just had the soup, the menu looked ambitious. Oh and did I mention free popcorn? that is for sure the way to a girls heart. Can't wait to get back out this way.
Review Source:What can I say about one of my favorite spots in MI, love this place. You always find a great selection of MI craft beers on tap and in bottle, Happy hour is 7AM to 11 AM!! thank goodness my phone has tethering so I can " have a few offsite meetings"
Tim the bartender is great at offering advice on new beer. If you don't know what you like just talk to him, he will defiantly help you out
Food is why i rated this a 4. I'm in love with there bacon cheese tots, i just wished they were layered. I'm a cheese head so seeing 1/3 of my tots with no cheese on it was against my religion of cheese. I will say that the chef's are willing to experiment for you. Blackened fish is the way straight to my heart, and in taco form is darn near angelic. Its not on the menu, but fish tacos are. After asking the chef if i could get mine blackened i was a little worked that to him i meant burnt, but he came through. Very Very tasty fish, but it needed a different sauce from your run of the mill fish tacos.
Seating is nice and there is always someone to talk to. Outside patio is lovely, weather permitting. Parking is easy and quick access to a major highway is always a plus. If your Looking for a great place to try out the top 30 of MI best craft beer, this is your place!
Logan's has a great beer selection, pretty much anything you can hope for. Some of the international beers end up being bad and not tasting like they should simply because they probably don't have a huge turnaround rate since they do have such a large selection.
The food is just normal pub food, the tater tots are perfect for snacking on during the night. Â Understandably, some of the beer can get pricey, but most of it is pretty normal. The atmosphere seems to have changed a bit in the past year or so, for the worse, but I can't quite put my finger on how. Â Service is good, there are definitely a couple of stand outs, Jen especially.
Huge Beer selection, great prices. I drink liquor and they make excellent drinks and have quite a large selection. The staff there is always fun and easy to get along with. Great people.
Food is pretty good too :)
Not much parking when it's busy and the place isn't very large. Get there early and grab a table. It also gets pretty smokey in there later at night so if you can't handle that you may want to try another place.
This is so hard to review. Â Here's why:
Beer Selection 5* - easy, it's serious, world class and extensive.
Service 4* - but I'd give Jennifer 5*
Outdoor Seating 4* but 1* for indoor smoking
Food was generally crappy and 2* feels generous
Sadly, the food is the missing link. Â Sure the tater tots are great. Â I was told the wings were sub-par, and they were. Â Burger wasn't as good as we were led to believe. Â Salad wasn't good. Â Pizza was on 1/2 price special, and it's hard to complain about $5 bacon pizza. Â The chicken parm sandwich looked like the real winner - and was freaking huge.
Really, I'd say go for the beer. Â Relax on the patio. Â Eat some tots. Â And when you get really hungry go to Grand Coney across the way. Â If you did that, it would clearly be a 4* experience. Â
Maybe even 5* depending on the weather and the company.
