Ever since I was a little girl, my parents have always chosen LongHorn as one of our regular restaurants. I tend to get the same thing, but I do always sample off everyone else's plate.
The decor to LongHorn is really as southern as it gets. There are animal heads on the wall and the servers all wear blue jeans. Â They greet you with a big southern smile, and sometimes they even have an accent. I almost feel like I am back in Mississippi.
If I was not so full after every meal I would probably go mud boggin' or something country like that. The steak does not ever need steak sause, because it is cooked to perfection, and the baked potato is to die for. It comes fully loaded, and thats just the way I like it. I would love to work there just to see the training that goes into a place like this. The staff is always smiling and the food is always great.
PS: They have a special going on, salad, steak, side and dessert for only 12.99!!!!
We lived off San Pablo in the mid to late 90's and would come here often for dinner. Â We now live in Illinois but were in town visiting family in the Mayo and came over for a late lunch. Â It was as great as I remembered (although the area has changed quite a bit). Â We had a party of about 14 and with no notice was seated immediately. Â I had the Rancher's Sirloin which was a six ounce sirloin covered with two slices of bacon and a fried egg on top. Â I had the loaded mashed potatoes which were good too.
My favorite steak here is the bone in ribeye. Â I regretted not ordering it but I enjoyed the sirloin (and saved a few bucks).
This is a story of making the ordinary, extraordinary. Â I'm sure many of you like certain chain establishments, but there are certain locations you like better than others. Â I think the starbucks at 3rd St and Atlantic Blvd is warmer and friendlier than the Starbucks on 3rd St in Jax Bch. Â
When I went to eat at Longhorn recently, I had an idea of what to expect already in my mind. Â When it came to the food, I was right. Â They have several beef options, with your typical sides. Mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, rice pilaf.... Â They also have seafood and chicken dishes, but nothing new to write home about.
The last time I went there, however, they did not have the prime rib due to some techincal difficulties in the kitchen. Â We were so famished at that point, we simply picked something else off the menu. Â The management there however, could not do enough, it seemed, to rectify the situation. Â Mind you, we were not upset at all. Â We understand these things happen. Â The waitress apologized profusely. Â The manager apologized and later checked up on everything. Â He took our appetizers off the bill and gave us his business card and then apologized again!
Not only was it kind, but a smart move on his part. Â The next time I am craving a decent steak, I'll go back because as far as Longhorn is concerned, it does make a difference which chain and location it is!
