This is probably my favorite smokey, old man bar after Lilian's.
Chill, unpretentious with good drink specials and friendly bartenders that know how to pour.
They have awesome trivia night that's not too hip or obscure as the other ones around town tend to be.
The food is consistently phenomenal. Their burgers are a must try. Seriously, this isn't bar food; its some dank gourmet stuff. Their alligator and spicy shrimp appetizers are pretty on par too.
I like this bar because it attracts all ages and all crowds. Definitely worth a visit.
Loosey's is so incredibly small compared to its predecessor, Market Street Pub! Hopefully that gives it a little more charm and makes it a bit more of a neighborhood hangout, but it certainly crippled it as a venue in my eyes. The stage sits on a level about 3-4 ft below the main bar area so views are hard to come by. The bar is an L shape with not a terrible amount of seating, but enough. There is also a little room filled with 3-4 pinball machines that seem to be pretty popular. I'm not sure what kind of club this is on your average night, so its mission could make it better or worse.
Review Source:The karaoke here is so god awful that it makes it AWESOME!!! Â I'll go just to laugh at how bad the people performing are and it usually the same 5 people each time. Â I haven't eaten here so I can't rate the food but it always look good when it comes out.
They have a great bar and run solid drink specials. Â They have a large select of craft beer and if you check in on Yelp you can get a 3-4oz sample free to make sure to take advantage of that.
The only downfall of this place is when they have bands come in and charge a cover. Â This place instantly becomes a 2-star rating when that happens so I stay far away.
If you haven't been here before make sure to check it out and come back for a drink on the weekend.
Loosey's is a great time. The owner Dan is a great guy and knows his beer. He bartends a lot :)
The food is quite yummy. Their fries sprinkled truffle oil are soo good with the Chokolat they have on tap. (if you like stouts and fries, that is.) Their wings are pretty good too.Their salads are also delicious and quite big. They only carry american brews (tons of microbrews), which I think is really cool. USA! USA! Right? :)
As with most bars, they've got tons of TVs and its a nice laid back place to watch the game. They also have dart boards, if you're into that, along with pool tables and pinball machines. They also have karaoke on saturday nights with a great dj who sings pretty well himself and handles the drunk karaoke'rs pretty well. (DO THIS at least once while you're in Gainesville!)
Loosey's went into the space long occupied by Market Street Pub and while the Pub was much-loved, Loosey's is a very fun bar and also a quality restaurant. Too many bars that claim to also be restaurants really have only added a burger or two to their menus as an afterthought but are less than serious about running a proper restaurant--not Loosey's. The house salad with grilled shrimp I had was of the best quality and a decently-sized portion at that. They also have the standard burgers but some innovations like a truffle oil-laced fries and asian pot stickers. It's apparent they want their food to be good without going into the full gastro-pub territory with a massive menu but instead kept it simple yet interesting and I appreciate that.
Their beer selection is apparently limited to American brews (no Stella!) and there is an emphasis on good Bourbons too with Bulleit being apparently the sponsored house Bourbon featured in their drinks on the menu--not a bad choice on Loosey's part, at all. I didn't get the much-touted Bloody Mary but should have--I will next time! They were also doing trivia--which apparently is their Monday night thing--but I was more interested in just having dinner and talking with my friends.
All in all, a low-key, fun, kind of bar but with the bonus of serving decent food. Downtown certainly needed something of this stripe so I'm glad to see Loosey's taking the lead.
Loosey's was a great spot to watch performances at Fest 10.
I never had the Bloody Mary that everyone else is speaking of solely because I don't drink them but the tribute glasses they gave out that weekend were awesome.
There is a patio outside to hang out at if being inside isn't your thing.
Get a Bloody Mary.
Get a Bloody Mary.
Get a Bloody Mary*.
They make them so good here, it's ridiculous. While I didn't eat, the plates coming to the tables around us looked good. I was more focused on a liquid breakfast. I'm sure you know how that goes.
The vibe in here is super laid back, which is exactly what I want while consuming a good bloody. That and a wall full of dart boards. Awesome.
*Now if only saying that three times in a dark room would conjure one up...
In much the same way my dog associates her food dish with some wild eating action, I associate Loosey's with bad ass Bloody Mary. Perhaps the best Bloody Mary I've ever had, outside of the Cruz Room in Portland, Oregon. This place makes a hell of a Bloody Mary. I think I crave Bloody Mary's more now than ever having returned from a weekend of pure tomato and vodka bliss.
Loosey's is a pretty cool and extremely comfortable bar. Definitely a place to recoup after a hangover or work on installing a new one. The outdoor veranda seating is limited but awesome. God I miss warm weather.
All the food that went by me looked incredibly delicious and the menus showed reasonable prices.
The only thing that feels a little odd about this bar is the layout. It's on multi-levels and sectioned off. There's a pool table and ample seating around it back by the bar. The bar area is raised about a foot or two from the rest of the bar and there's some tables and what not up there. Then there's a "stage" area, I guess "performance" area would make more sense. It's at floor level. To the left of that is another pool table with more bench seating and a high wall built up around it.
The result of all this, when seeing a show, is obstructed views like whoa. If you're there to see a band, get there early and secure a spot where vision isn't mostly or totally impaired. Once the music has started, even walking around will be rough due to the congestion the fixtures create. On any old night, though, I suppose the sections kind of make the place feel more intimate as if it's only you and your friends in the "entire" place.
Without a doubt Loosey's was my favorite bar in town that weekend.
Damn, now I want another Bloody Mary.
Loosey's still feels, looks, and smells like Marketplace used to, but this is such a  nice change from the old.  As others have said the burgers and wings are awesome....maybe one of the better burgers in all of Gainesville.  The beer selection does seem to be evolving from the goo to the better.  You can play darts or pool and that's a lot of fun and the servers certainly know their stuff.  Look at their website for the daily specials...some of them are awesome and well worth an early trip to the bar.
Review Source:Wow, what a change from Market Street. Been twice now, both early evening. This is a local kind of place, but even as a new customer, we were treated great by the owner behind behind the bar.
Beer selection is evolving and moving towards all domestic mircobrews. The owner seems to take pride in finding great beer and knows his stuff. If you are set on drinking Guinness, this is not your place, but if you want to try something new that will rock your world, this is your place!
The biggest surprise is the food. So far we have tried the wings, a burger, onion rings, and the pulled pork sandwich. All have been fantastic and the wings are the best in town.
Loosey' is non-smoking (but has outside smoking if you want to light up), and has darts, pool, and apparently has karaoke on the weekends.
My only complaint is the wine list is not very strong, but with a full bar and great beer, that really isn't a problem.
Check this place out for great food and beer in a friendly local place.
I wasn't too impressed the first time I went here, which was right after they opened. It looked like Market Street, but with a fresh coat of paint and lighting from an insane asylum (from what I've seen in the movies). Their beer selection wasn't that great either - nothing exciting.
Well, based on my last visit a few weeks ago, A LOT has changed. They had a much better selection of drafts and the lighting looked better :)
We had some fish and chips - which was okay, but I think there was some confusion in the kitchen - causing some of our food to be recooked while the other waited (i.e., the fries were a lil mushy). Not the biggest deal in the world. They had some other interesting looking items on the menu as well.
I'll definitely be back!
