I haven't been here in some time, but I felt the urge to write a review anyway.
Back when I used to be dropped from the night shift early (around 11pm/12 am), I would sometimes swing by here on the way home. It's as genuine as Mexican food as you can get; makes me feel ashamed that I used to go to the Taco Bell close by. I had no idea this place was open so late until I saw a bunch of cars out in front and all the lights were on.
Because of the late hours, there is a security guard at the door. But he doesn't bother me; if anything, I'm comforted that the employer gives a hoot about safety in the area.
My staple has been the chicken burrito meal. It's not bursting with flavor, but it tastes homemade and is very filling. Oftentimes I just eat half and save the other for later. The horchata is very good, but it disturbed me a little when I watched it being ladled out of a dirty white industrial bucket stored in the fridge.
I can literally see this place from my house. Â Now that I say that out loud, I wonder why I don't go more often!!
They have really, really good food for prices that aren't ridiculous. Â This ain't your normal taco bell, here, people. Â Honestly, it's probably cheaper than TB, but I digress.
My friend picked this up for us one night on her way over. Â She said it took FOR.EV.ER to get the food, and it wasn't that busy. Â That's a double-edged sword. Â Because on the one hand, if you're just there on your lunch break for a quick meal, it might not be as quick as you need it to be. Â However, it's easy to see how freshly the food is prepared--I would rather have that than something that isn't as fresh and sloppily put together.
I ordered a taco salad and a torta with the breaded steak. Â The torta was ok--it served its purpose, but I really enjoyed the taco salad. Â Everything was so fresh and well done. Â The shell that it came in was really great--it was flaky but not greasy and it held all of the ingredients in well.
I also tasted my friend's chicken taco, and it was SO good. Â The chicken was even better than you would expect. Â It was like pulled chicken. Â YUM!
I will definitely be back over and over :)
Nothing better than finding a decent and cheap Mexican joint.
Food is incredibly cheap, but its nothing gourmet. Â Dishes are simple, but everything is authentic. Â Loved my Pork Taco dinner, and my husband enjoyed his Chorizo Burrito.
We didn't eat inside the restaurant, and just opted to take it home, we waited probably 5 minutes and everything was super fresh. Â We were also asked what kind of salsa we would like to take home, nice perk there.
I come here for one main reason, I work close by. The food is ok at best to me. I've had better. I do enjoy the tacos the most. The prices are fair.
It can get loud at night, and I've noticed that there is a security guard there now. I know after the bars start to close a lot of people rush here. Your best bet is catch them before dinner time, the food is better then.
I must if went on a bad day because everything about the tacos were tasteless. It seemed like the tortillas were taken out of the packaging and not warmed. The steak was so bland. I remember having tacos here a year ago and was blowen away. The service however was so good. Wish the food could of been the same. But I will give them another chance.
Review Source:I have been trying to find a great late night taco spot, and I have finally discovered Los Burritos Tapatios.
Saturday night craving. Stopped in around 11PM and it was getting crowded, which is a good sign. I had the taco special with grilled steak (cilantro & onions), the fiance had the chicken burrito, and I ordered a chicken tamale.
Da*m my taco dinner was delicious. They had a great amount of meat that I split the 2 taco's into 4. Everything about the meal was delicious. Chicken tamale, nothing to rave about.
My fiance was not in love with his burrito. He said the chicken was dry.
I love this place so much that we went again the following night. My fiance had the grilled steak taco dinner and was hooked. I of coursed ordered it as well.
The service was slow, but good food takes time! The inside was very nice and clean. The crowd of people was diverse.
Ive tried the other mexican joints around the area, but this is the best priced and tasting! I am considering going there again today...would 3 days in one week be too much? I think not!
I decided to visit this place one night after shopping. So I ordered a chimichanga. I know I hate people calling this Mexican food but chimichangas are pretty good. Any way when I got it, I saw that it was an oily mess. That means they didn't fry at the right temp. And the worse part is that it was cut into four pieces, then centred around rice, so the rice got oily too. Horrible plating and obviously horrible frying. Adios Burritos Tapatios.
And they use the name of my favourite hot sauce. That's not right.
Los Burritos Tapatios in Streamwood is a restaurant in the small chain of Los Burritos Tapatios family of eateries around Chicagoland. This particular Los Burritos is fairly small with a few tables to eat at, but that seems to be a more popular place late at night and with customers carrying out orders.
Los Burritos Tapatios has a diverse menu of Mexican dishes, these includes Burritos, Taco's, Torta's and even breakfast dishes such as Huevos con chorizo.
As far as the food I receive, it's always excellent, giant and flavorful burritos with soft cheese, and nicely grilled meat, bean dip and lettuce. Tortas with a mountain of flavor not only in the cheese, meat, and lettuce, but in the bread as well. I recommend trying the chicken variations of their primary entrees as the chicken is delicious.
If you go in to sit down and eat, chips and salsa are provided. The quality of both the chips and the salsa are excellent and are a perfect compliment to their primary food items.
The food at this particular Los Burritos Tapatios is slightly different than what's been found at the Glen Ellyn location which I've reviewed previously. The salsa is a little hotter, the way the meat is prepared seems a little different leaving it with a slightly different texture. It is however every bit as good as the previously reviewed Glen Ellyn location.
For breakfast, lunch or dinner this is a great place to stop.
After seeing all the raving reviews for this place, I had to check it out. My rating is 4 stars but I really want to give it 3.75 stars because it doesn't quite hit the 4 for me. What puts it over the top though is it's a cheaper Mexican place that goes beyond what other Mexican places offer in the area.
PROs
- Good value for the food. The giant burritos are about the same as Chipotle size and only cost $6.06 including tax.
- The grilled steak giant burrito is a great fusion of flavors. My first bite into it brought a smile to my face, reminding me of all the awesome California Mexican food I've had in my life. However, the taste doesn't really grow on you. It stays the same throughout.
- The free chips are for dine-in only but is a great sign that it's authentic.
- They're fairly fast. The next time I order, I will do it by phone, though it only took them 5 minutes to get the food out. It's not "fast food" but it's speedy in how they make it.
- The menu is simple, easy to understand.
- The service is fast, and they are very accommodating if you want to sit, dine in, or just take your order to go.
CONs
- The taste isn't the best I've had. It was good but not excellent. The burrito had a 60% meat to 20% rice/beans to 20% cheese ratio. I'd prefer it balance out with a little less meat. But being my first time, I'll try asking for that next time.
- The place is very clean, but does have that odor of cleaners around. I'd prefer not to smell that but at least it's clean :)
Overall, it's definitely worth the shot that everyone's raving about! Try it!
Restaurant Review
muy sabroso! I don't speak a lot of spanish but I can say that the food was delicious. I didn't have high expectation for this small restaurant that I have driven by at least a 1000 times since I have lived in the suburbs. When you enter, you are greeted by a large menu over the order counter that has many tasty mexican specials from burritos to tortas to enchiladas. There are also  the more complete dinners. I ended up ordering a "giant" steak burrito and chips/salsa. The burrito itself by no means is giant, more like "average size smaller than chiptole", but the beef is perfectly seasoned and tender. This made my taste buds dance! I was expecting to pay 2.xx for my chips and salsa, but I didn't realize that if you eat in, the chips are free. For 6 dollars, this was a worthwhile quick mexican meal. FYI just as "Edward M." said you can sit down and wait for the waiter to come up with the menu as well.
Pro- fresh ingredients, flavorful steak burrito, free chips/salsa for dine-in orders, friendly service (they didn't even cheat me out of 2 dollars when I ordered the chips
Con- "giant" burrito really is a medium size burrito, check out my picture if you don't believe me
Hidden deal- check out the lunch specials torta, fries, and drink for 6 dollars
Checked out this place on a recommendation of a friend (from Cali so you know he knows gooood burritos!). The hubby and I swung by for a quick bite- it was a really pleasant surprise. The staff is very nice and friendly. The crowd is definitely a mix but the food is authentic and consistently tastes fantastic. I had tacos, the hubs had a dinner platter with steak on our first visit. Overall a good experience resulting in us as returning customers and since then, we've tried other things on the menu. Consistently good experiences!
Review Source:I'd been hearing about this place for a while and have been a fan of Los Comales for a long time. Â I finally got to check this place out.
We ordered at the counter, apparently you could have just sat down and waited for a waiter. Â My bad.
I ordered a Chorizo Giant Burrito and Horchata (rice water sweetened with cinnamon). Â We also got chips and salsa at the table for free, they charge if you take it out.
The Giant burrito was not that giant, def not even as big as Chipotle or Los Comales but the flavors were amazing! Â There was just something overwhelmingly good about how the burrito was cooked and put together. Â It's not too expensive at 5.45. Â I would order it again.
The Horchata was pretty good, though I was a bit leery as they pulled a ladle out and spooned it outta a HUGE bucket.  It did taste pretty good though.  I like the Los Comales Horchata better though.  BUt same size and same price I think for it, Large for  1.85.  I forget how much Los Comales charges.
The Chips and Salsa were good, fresh homemade chips and the salsa that comes standard, not in the bottles is the same quality as Los Comales. Â Very good flavor, nice pieces of onion in it, spicy and lasting :) Â
All in all, if you want a hole in the wall type place instead of the more restauranty setting of Los Comales, this is a great place to go. Â They are also open late til like 2 am most days and 4 am on Friday and Saturday. Â They also serve breakfast all day.
Spanish TV is on so that gives you an idea that the place is authentic, which it is.
As  a huge fan of Mexican food, I love this place. I have been to most Mexican restaurants in the area and this one is far and away the best. I always call in my to go orders to avoid the wait. And they are very accurate and quick with the order. I make this place a stop at least once a week.
Review Source:I'm a little wary of trying new places, but I am always on the search of the perfect steak burrito, and I think I may have found it here at Los Burritos Tapatios.
The steak is perfectly seasoned, and the burrito filling is well-balanced, not too much of one ingredient. Â I've eaten here at least twice a month in the last year and a half, and only once was I disappointed in the food.
Because my lunch break isn't long, I usually call in my order so that I don't have to wait for them to make it at the restaurant since it can take almost 10 minutes, which is ten minutes I could be savoring the food.
I've tried the steak burritos at a lot of places around, and this one is still the best.
Ironically, their burritos are NOT the best items on the menu. Â In order of wow factor are the steak tortas, steak tacos (onion and cilantro on corn tortillas), chips and salsa, bistec con rajas and chilequilas. Â OMG. Â I live six blocks away and go there frequently for steak tacos. Â They are relatively lean and divine! Â Prices are fantastic and they provide great service. Â I shamelessly promote this place to all friends. Â They have at least three other locations. Â One in glen ellyn and one in lombard?? Â Both on Roosevelt Rd.
Review Source:I cannot add too much to what already has been said but I will keep this simple...the best darn Mexican food that I have had in some time! Â I have been there three times since March and I wish I would have gone there tonight! Â I cannot say it is kid friendly unless the kid enjoys that food...
IF you like good fresh Mexican food, this is the place and the staff there are friendly and want to be helpful. Â Go soon!
I went here because of all the great reviews.
I ordered Tacos with onions and cilantro.
I drove 8 miles home and opened my order, and the tacos had lettuce, cheese and tomatos and some other stuff on it. Unedible for me.
If I make the drive again and they get my order right this time, I will re-review it.
Here in the land of a thousand Mexican joints it's easy to get lost in the mire of choices but for me, Los Burritos Tapatios has stolen the show. I'm not even 100% sure why, but nonetheless.
My choice is their chile relleno dinner. Two massive poblano peppers stuffed with cheese, deep fried and topped with a delicious tomato and onion sauce served with beans and rice. That and a large horchata make me a happy man. Plus, they're open so, so late. I've hit them up at some really weird hours and they're always there to serve me my favorite food. I might actually try something else from there someday but in the meantime, those peppers are awesome and so is this place.
Ay Caramba! Â
Living in Streamwood, you get your choice of authentic Mexican restaurants because of the large hispanic population. I had heard about this particular chain from a friend of mine a LONG LONG time ago, when my family first moved into the area.
After reading the Yelps, I had to try it. Â So, today was the day! Â The storefront is unassuming and a part of a small strip mall where a Giordano's also resides. Â When you go in, there is a counter and several booths and tables. Â On the walls, Mexican decorations such as wooden statuettes and even a large Aztec/Mayan wooden carving hangs high on the wall.
The selection of Mexican Foods ranged from your typical tacos and burritos to tortas and even menudo.
So, much to try, so much I can eat in one sitting....*sigh* I went straight for their burritos, but you're looking at a taco loving gal, so, I got an order of those as well. Since I was in for lunch, I got the GIANT BURRITO SPECIAL, which including a 20oz drink. Â I got the grilled steak, grilled chicken burritos, and ground beef tacos.
The service was prompt and friendly. I was in and out of there in no time! They asked if I wanted sauce and I said "Yes".  They gave me three sauces or rather salsas in varying degrees of  heat. Mild, Medium (Salsa Verde), and Hot (a picante style salsa with a kick!)
So, first I split the two burritos so my husband and I could sample both the grilled steak and the grilled chicken. Â I went for the Grilled Steak first and it definitely ain't your Momma's Chipotle type burrito. Â The taste was authentic and flavorful. Â The texture of the grilled steak reminded me of a philly cheesesteak. It was very yummy!
Now to taste the chicken, while also good, it lacked some flavor, nothing some salsa couldn't kick up a notch. :) Â I also tried out the ground beef tacos and it was about as yummy as the grilled steak burritos. Â The ground beef seasoning was nothing like I'd ever tasted in a Mexican taco, but it reminded me more of Indian spices rather than Mexican. It made the taco even more enjoyable and exotic.
Suffice to say, I did not finish all of my GIANT burrito, so, I ended up putting the chicken burrito half in the fridge for later consumption. Â Be sure to bring your appetite when you go to Los Burritos Tapatios because you will not be disappointed.
Overall, I would definitely come back to sample their more unconventional meats like the lengua (beef tongue) or even the non-meat chile relleno...chile rellenoito? :) Â
I like how they are open very late so, if I should get an attack of the munchies late at night. Â
Los Burritos Tapatios is there to satisfy my appetite for Mexican food.
Believe it or not, the best Mexican spot in all of Chicago is right here at Los Burritos Tapatios. This is considered Mexican fast food, but damn, the food is good. I would eat here any day over a $25/plate high end Mexican restaurant. They have a full menu with Cecina tacos and camarones a la diabla topping the list as the best menu items. This place is open late, making it right up my alley. You can tell that the food is fresh, never frozen and made with pride. They have this red "chipotle" like hot sauce that I have never seen before, but is great. The food is very inexpensive. This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time.
Review Source:ok so I have been craving Real Tacos since we left Seattle !! and any one that knows me 4 weeks is a long time with no tacos, but getting off at midnight has made it hard to get any
but my brother tells me there is a place near the house that is open late like 2 or 3 he thinks, so last night I took a drive by and Sun-Thurs its 2am and Fri-Sat 4am so we now have found a late night place for Tacos
so tonight I go by and get us some Tacos, 4 carne for my partner and 4 El Pastor (Spicy Pork) for me, then the girl asks me if I want Tomatoes =, Lettuce and cheese on them WTF ? I said hell no I want Mexican Tacos if I wanted American Tacos I would of gone to Taco Bell screw that crap
they asked me if I wanted hot or mild salsa and I said mild, I was expecting Salsa Verde but no I got this tomato juice that was mildly seasoned it was good but not what I am used to, also were the hell is the lime ? I had lime at home thank Jeebus and a jar of salsa Verde
now the Tacos were damn good the meat was seasoned just right and they were nice and hot, and full of meat they don't skimp on the servings here, just have to make sure you know what you are ordering and I will have to ask for lime next time, also need to ask if they have pickled jalapenos and radish to cool your mouth back off
My wife and I went there several weeks ago based on the reviews here. Â We were very happy with our visit here. Â We both Chimichangas. Â She had chicken and I had steak. Â Neither of us could finish it all. Â There were 2 chimichangas each with rice and beans. Â Chips and salsa while we were waiting were good.
We spent under $20 for both of us and we had enough leftovers for lunch the next day!
Los Burritos Tapatios has officially become my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Northwest suburbs! The food is excellent, the service is great, the & the prices are cheap.
I would recommend ordering the GIANT chicken burrito with cilantro & washing it down with an ice-cold Coca-Cola Hecho en Mexico (Mexican Coke). Best late-night food spot in the area! If you like Mexican food, be sure to give it a try; I'm sure that you won't be disappointed!
This place is awesome for a late night snack. Â We've only gone here after midnight. It's nice because it is a sit down place that's not fast food. It's decent mexican food for the price.
I've had the avocado tostadas there and the steak tacos. My hubby's had the shrimp fajitas and the breaded chicago (milanesa i think) and it's been good. One of my friends got the tongue tacos and although I'm not a fan, she loved it.
I always judge a place by their horchata too and theirs is very good.
I have to agree with the previous yelp reviewer. Â This place is cheap, the service is good and the employees are always friendly. Â It's clean and everything I've had there is good, the nachos are especially good and the portions are huge. Â I may be embellishing on how good this place is however, due to the trips I've made there @ 1,2,3 or so in the morning. Â Still, any place where I can get away with shoveling nachos in my face while shoeless is a-ok.
