$5 wine flights? No complaints there at all -- except if it takes an hour to get your order because there are no tasting glasses available. I felt a little improvisation was in order there for the sake of customer service. I've been to this restaurant before on various busy nights and the service can be called hit or miss at best. As for food, the steak nachos, orange shrimp, and burgers are pretty tasty.

Last night I ordered the baked cheese appetizer and seriously considered sending it back. The menu decscribed it as Camembert cheese that could be served with either roasted mushrooms or grilled fruit and honey. I chose the latter and what arrived to my table was a block of cheese, that while yummy, had an almost undectable amount of honey and 4 paper thin slices of badly burned pears.

A few upgrades in service and this place could be a great spot to grab some afterwork drinks with friends.

One of the few dining venues open until 11 p.m. on a Friday in the area.  We came in at 9:45 and were seated by a teenage-appearing host (felt like I was at Applebees) who then forgot to tell our server that we had arrived.  One server noted our presence, but I guess she forgot too.  Waited a solid 10 minutes for anyone to take our wine order and then just left.  The minute we stood up to leave, the host darted to our table to clean up our places (hmmm).  I did look over the menu.  No vegan option, lousy pescetarian options, no vegan pescetarian options, no dairy-free meat options, one option for a  gluten-free pizza crust and I guess that brings them into the 21st century.  Nothing new since the last time I visited (over a month ago) and nothing exciting just to go with wine.  Lackluster service, atmosphere and menu.

A work related function yesterday was my first experience at Lubo's.  The food was pretty good and the by the glass wine selection was pretty decent, which it should be since the entire concept of the business is geared around wine.

I ended up choosing the daily lunch special which was a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado and lump crab meat.  I was intrigued by the unusual combination but it worked quite well together.  Color me impressed.

What was not impressive was the amount of time it took for the food the come out of the kitchen.  We were a group of fifteen so I can understand a slight delay but it took well over an hour for our food to come out after we ordered.  Unacceptable and judging by the trend in Yelp reviews, this is a fairly regular occurrence.  Not good.

Also, never sit upstairs when it is screeching hot outside.  They have a number of sky lights in the ceiling and the sunlight just overwhelms the meager AC.  All of us were sweating uncomfortably during the long wait for our food.  Just don't do it.

    Everything here is amazing.

They have great specials during the weeknight & the atmosphere is great. They also have cool servers.

Great burgers, yummy pasta, and the steak nachos are a must. Ooohh & a great brunch/lunch on the weekends!

The gorgonzola and steak nachos are the bomb. Great service. Delicious mussels with toasted French bread and the wines are excellent.

Great beer selection, great wine selection and the food is just super.  I am hard to impress, as you can tell by a few of my review's...this stylish place is really good.  They have wine tastings and a great staff.  We have been back here numerous times and never disappointed.  It can get pricey and if you like imported beer and wine you will be impressed.

This was my first time here, we sat outside on the nice large porch(we forgot that ALL the smokers would be out here too).  The food was pretty good, the spicy fried shrimp was good but the glaze was a little too sweet.  The steamer bowl was very good lots of clams, mussels and shrimp in a wonderful broth.  The service was quick and friendly.

We have been coming here since it opened. We love the food, wine and atmosphere. We really love the Wednesday special - 2 pasta dishes and a bottle of wine for $34.99. Excellent value.

Bad and SLOW service. The food is decent. Don't bother coming with a large group. It will literally take hours and orders will be messed up. Even with two people in an empty restaurant it took 45 min for a sandwich.

Quick and easy. I came in to pick up a bottle of wine on the way to a party. I tell the lady why I'm there and was handed a menu of wines. Not knowing what I was reading I chose something that wasn't the cheapest thing but far from being expensive. You get an 18% discount on buying wine on the go. What a nice surprise!

I did use their top floor room for a marketing event one evening back in my Ameriprise days. It was too long ago to write a review that I feel can be of substance (probably because I got super lit that night). It's pretty up there and comfortably holds 30 people. It has a great feel as the sun sets into the evening. It sure made me look good in front of my clients/prospects.

    From what I remember...highly recommended.

Long time customer here - probably 2 times per month over the past 2 years.  While the service has seldom been quick, the servers were generally attentive.  Went for brunch a few Sundays back and the service was as bad as anywhere I've ever eaten.  Sat for 10 minutes before getting water and menus.  There were 4 tables including us and two people at the bar.  One table was paying their bill and leaving.

20 minutes later, no drinks, no sign of the server, and no one to take our order.  We gave up and left.

Gave the place another try for dinner last week.  The food is still tasty, but the wait staff service has declined a lot in the last year.  Sad because this place was a favorite previously.

I have yet to have a bad experience at Lubo.  I've been coming here sporadically for years and always find something new on the menu. Tonight, I tried the goat cheese wrapped in prosciutto. WOW!!!! It had cloves of roasted garlic on the plate that were bathing in EVOO and a bed of fresh basil.  It was a symphony of flavors that I spread on top of my fresh warm (crisp on the outside soft on the inside) bread and ahhhhh....mmmmm....absolutely pleasurable, scrumptious, and oh soooo satisfying.  I'd order this dish over the nachos any day.

The atmosphere is really nice.  We had a reservation for 9 and were seated immediately.  Cheese selections were delicious.  The menu looked terrific overall, very well-thought out.

Service was slow.  Wine tasted like it came out of a box.  Grapes on the cheese plate were moldy.  My pizza had a significant amount of ash on half of it, and I was unable to eat that half.  Server never asked us how our food was or if we wanted desert, just suddenly showed up with our checks.  My check was adjusted for the food, but I was almost charged for 2 glasses of wine when I only had one.  They had a mandatory 20% tip, way too high for the crappy service we received.

My friends were not overly impressed with their meals either, other than the cheese selections.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Williamsburg and had a super lunch.  Huge salads and portions.  This must be a fun place for dinner with wine pairings or fleets.  Great selection of wines and gourmet food that they will customize into gift baskets.  Would stop again if traveling through the area.

Nachos are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!  Perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine with a girlfriend or go out on a romantic date, and the patio is very relaxing during the spring and summer especially with a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio!!

I have to say, you can't go wrong with Lubo. They have delicious food, and have been extremely willing to accommodate my dietary limitations. You need to have some time though, because they aren't quick. It's a nice atmosphere, and they typically play great music.

They have a very nice wine and beer list and I ordered a wrap for lunch which was very delicious.  The portions were huge for the price.  But like many other patrons have stated their service is very slow.

I will continue to go there I just hope they take notice to their slow staff and make the much needed adjustments to make this a 5 star establishment everytime!!

Good food, good environment, friendly staff. Mel is awesome, and it's not over crowded. I do wish they had a more extensive beer list. Wine selection is decent but a little pricey. Home made chocolate truffles are also very good.

They have good specials for brunch, wine tasting on Tuesdays and an excellent selection of beer.
Their service is lackluster at best, they are slow and inattentive.

The normal menu has some gems, the nachos are fantastic, and the specials I have had definitely impressed me.  Twice I have had omelets here that would rate 5 stars.  However, every trip to Lubo has been a serious investment of time.  We were literally the only two customers in the restaurant, sat at the bar and I had to refill my own water glass because our server was nowhere to be found.

The speed at which they operate is frustratingly slow and my main critique of an otherwise promising establishment.

After a LONG time of LOVING Lubos, we went for a recent visit last night and were tragically disappointed.  An absolute favorite "go to" place to have dinner for me has turned into an establishment that I doubt I will return to I am VERY sorry to say.

Our server - not the usually girls we see - was friendly but not very attentive.  When refilling our water she touched the pitcher to our glasses - a real "no no" on hygiene and speaks toward cleanliness (or lack of) in my book.

Our food took FOREVER to get to us.  Not typical for this place, so we didn't complain.  Our appetizer did not taste as good as it normally does and quite frankly, I've had better burgers at "the Robin" and "Five Guys" .  They were overcooked and dry.

The inside of the restaurant just was overall not very clean.  My water glass was spotty, our appetizer plate was dirty and had to be returned, the walls next to our table were in dire need of a wipe down.  I hate to be picky - however I do expect a place I eat to appear clean and the food to be enjoyable.

In the end we had a $60 evening for two that was a wipe out and I don't care to repeat it.

My favorite resturaunt in Virginia Beach. The atmosphere is swanky yet casual, classy yet unpretentious.  The food puts a gourmet twist on everyday dishes ie gorgonzola Mac and cheese or portabella pizzas (miniature pizzas made on a huge portabella mushroom).  My favorite has to be their burgers. It's a toss up between theirs and cobalt grille for best burger in Hampton Roads.  There's always an array of beers from obscure microbrews and quality imports you can't typically find anywhere in the area. I was really stoked when they brought on breakfast / brunch. Great omelets and really good coffee.

The food and wine were fantastic, but way, Way, WAY, WAAAAAAY overpriced!

I have been to wine bars in cities all over the country. I love them. It is a great way to unwind, relax and maybe find a new favorite wine. Lubo was no exception. The food was great and original, and the wine selection was quite extensive.

I found the staff to be less than helpful. My sister asked repeatedly for a recommendation of a sweet red. I understand that a sweet red is not as common as the dryer varities, but this was a Wine Room. The server seemed to have no idea what my sister was asking for, and in the end suggested a Riesling.

It was a fine experience for a wine room, but not nearly as good or as knowledgeable as others I have been to.

I have been to Lubo several times and want to like this place badly, from the wood fired grill to the wine list to the cute decor, but time after time, I have been disappointed! On my most recent trip, we ordered the nachos (won best of Hampton roads in 09 I think). They are good but not by any means, the best of Hampton roads IMO. They include blue cheese, balsamic drizzle, zucchini, eggplant and steak. The combo is a bit odd (never would have thought of putting zucchini or eggplant in nachos) but these nachos are an ok dish to munch on, and do pair well with a big bold red. Per the waitresses recommendation we ordered the prosciutto-goat cheese app. The portion was laughably small for the price and came floating in a pool of oil (not evoo, canola?). No one at the table liked this dish and I found the idea of cheese and ham floating in oil to be more than a bit off putting. Next, my friend and I shared a Cesar salad. The dressing that coated the lettuce was VERY sparse and thick. We decided to order more dressing to see if this would help the overall flavor of the salad and were shocked when we were brought out something more akin to mayonnaise or sour cream. The dressing was not only solid but also flavorless. Where were the anchovy, lemon, olive oil, and parm? The salad was a big miss, the house salad w the balsamic vinaigrette was good but nothing special.  Next came a strip steak w a worchester cream w mushrooms, asparagus and blue cheese mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was good, creamy and hot, this dish was a keeper, 3 spears of asparagus were included on the dish as was the strip. We ordered our steak medium rare; it came medium well and tough, completely killing the steak for me. The extra special touch was the plastic pink stick that was included in my steak, proof that the steak was not cooked correctly. The sauce was good but had began to separate by the time we got the steak (prob sitting under the heat lamp for a while.) I did let the waitress know that the meat was VERY overcooked. I didn't send the steak back because I felt bad because the waitress seemed very annoyed that we weren't happy with the steak and asked me if I was sure I really wanted to send it back. I kept the steak but made a mental note to never return to Lubo.  As a group, we decided this would be our last trip to Lubo since most of the food we have had previously has been a disappointment. All in all, the wine was good, the mac and cheese was good, the steak was tough and awful, the cream sauce was decent as were the nachos. I will not be back to Lubo as this was my 3rd visit and 3rd disappointment. If you do decide to try Lubo, I'd recommend sticking w the pizzas and anything that doesn't take a lot of precision from the kitchen.

We tried this restaurant thanks to their Wednesday night special of $35 for 2 dinners + bottle of wine (from a reduced menu).  Perhaps not the best to judge the whole place by, but if they want to attract you back to buy full priced dinners, I'd expect a better showing.  Nothing was 'bad', just very typical.  We had a white pizza and shrimp carbonara and shared.  Not all the shrimp were deveined (particularly the big one on top) which was a bit off-putting.  There was little flavor beyond the cream sauce, whereas the pizza had no flavor other than garlic.  The wine was enjoyable (a Chianti) but it was chosen not because we wanted it, but because we weren't interested in any of the others on offer.  I would probably give it one more shot again on $35 night - because it is a good deal and a nice little evening out.

Being from out of town (and by the name), I was expecting a local winery's tasting room. Turned out to be an upscale wine bar. Wine was pricey, but everything we had was good. We also had one of the cheese boards and a yummy goat cheese appetizer. If I lived in the area I'd definitely be back for dinner (the menu looked awesome), but I'd probably skip the flight and order a bottle of wine instead.

I cannot believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! I've been here around 10 times, and each time, I really enjoyed myself. It's a great place to go on a date or for girls night out. Lubo always has great events going on, and pretty good happy hour specials, so check their website. Their wine list is extensive, and it's always changing. You should definitely try a flight just to taste as many wines as possible. I know they are supposed to have "award winning nachos," but I think Mahi Mah's can give them a run for their money. The food is good enough, but I don't really go to Lubo for their food. The upstairs in Lubo has couches and pillows, which creates a nice environment. They have a patio, as well, that opens in the summer. The wait staff is really helpful. They know their wine and can make recommendations based on your preferences. Bottom line: A place that should not be missed.

I frequent this place to work on projects and books and they have always been gracious hosts.  Great wine and my wife loves their little chocolate truffles.  One are to improve, some lighter fare on the menu, but this is Virginia...

One of my new faves!  I threw both a surprise party last fall and then a rehersal dinner at Lubo, and thoroughly enjoyed both nights. Their private room is in a loft and was a perfect setting for the party.  Everyone loved the food and our servers were friendly and gracious.  Can't wait to go back for dinner.

Definitely check out Lubo for wine tasting or dinner. It's a quiet establishment for savoring and enjoying the experience. Not overcrowded and loud like the more trendy wine bars in the area. It's a nice place to go and catch up with friends you haven't seen in a while.

Upstairs is very modern, with comfortable sofa seats at the dining tables. The upstairs area would be a sick place to rent out for a party or event. There's also outside seating on the patio downstairs. They've done a great job keeping it secluded and private from the other stores and the road.

The meals are good, but nothing too memorable. I prefer to snack and sip wine at Lubo. I've never made it out on a wine tasting night, but I'm sure that would be ideal. They have wine tastings for just $5.

Lovesit!!! I go here because it is usually not jam packed with people spilling drinks on you at every turn. Love their Friday happy hour specials you can relax upstairs or sit out on the patio on a good day. The decor is amazing...keeps me going there. Their award winning nachos are truly to die for and also the chicken (grilled) was pretty good too. I haven't tried their wine selections yet but they seem to have a variety of good wines. i like the chilled laid back atmosphere and it is a go to spot for Friday nights :) Their waiters/waitresses are friendly without being pushy (thats always nice ) :)...check it out sometime ...

I love LUBO!  First time we went was a rainy Friday night in November and it wasn't crowded.  Got the red Australian flight.  My boyfriend got a US flight I think.
The food is GREAT.  Try the award winning nacho's! YUMMM..and can fill 2 people.  Burgers are great, too.
The service is oustanding and obviously the wine list is great.
If it's your first time, tell them and you'll get a free piece of their amazing chocolate !!!!

We went to Lubo's after seeing a small blurb about it in Forbes magazine, of all places.  We started off with the artichoke dip which was very good.  They actually use fresh artichokes rather than canned and a lot of them.  There was more artichoke than there was cheese!

I had the Cahill porter and mushroom burger which was also very good.  It was slightly overcooked (ordered medium, came out medium well) and was just a touch on the dry side, but the flavor was excellent.  One thing that did bother me was referring to it as Porter, when in fact they were using Stout.  Guinness Stout as a matter of fact.  Yes, I know that stout and porter are very similar, but that would be like saying a Syrah and Petite Syrah are the same thing.  I guess that's what you get with oenophile's.

Anyway, my wife had the white pizza, which was also good.  It was a little soggy, but other than that had good flavors and was surprisingly balanced considering the many types of cheeses on it.

The beer selection was surprisingly good considering it's a wine bar and they had a few things on their beer list I hadn't come across before.  The wine list looked equally impressive, although I'm not much of a wine guy so I can't say for sure.

I'm SO glad I found this place. We went the first time on a Friday night, during their happy hour special and got the house cab for $4. Not bad. We sat upstairs, which has cozy couches and sunroom ambiance. Really pretty on moonlit nights or even when its raining.

So our waitress was really helpful, telling us about the different specials and flights available. I got the earthy reds flight and my bf got the fall whites flight. She mentioned their award-winning nachos to us, which we got and btwn the two of us were COMPLETELY full (and we can both really put it away). I was also elated to know they had Limoncello, which I like ordering as a digestif, and it was available in creative mixed drink option. YUM.

I was so impressed with it the first time, we came back again the next week and to my delight, our waitress remembered how I had asked about the availability of a stainless steel chardonnay and she said they had JUST got one in. I wish i could find it on the menu now, but it was THE BEST, stainless steel chardonnay I'd ever had. I got another glass of it, and my bf got the mojitorita (a hybrid of a mojito and margarita....very yummy, although light on the mint).

We then ordered the Lubo cheese board, with accompaniments, which was TO DIE for. I've had many a cheese board in my day, but this was insanely good. They had a really good jalepeno jelly that i dont think I will ever find again in my life. After that, we split the Bucheron Goat Burger and it was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth.

Oh and they also have a little wine store inside where you can buy bottles or glasses or cheese or WHATEVER. They also have patio seating :)

Lubo wine bar is definitely going to be my go-to when I move down here. Everything i eat and drink here blows me away. I really want to try one of their wine tastings on Tuesday nights ($5 for 5 tastes!) and go to one of their festivals. Finally a REAL wine bar in VB.
