Really should be 2 1/2 stars. We live in HB & have gone here a handful of times. Always nothing to rave about but no compelling reason not to go back. We took our family when they were here from out of town, so there were 8 of us. The service was fine, it was the kitchen that messed every order up except 1. It was all brought to the waitresses attention. She felt bad & embarrassed. Not sure why she works there. My opinion is that the management just doesn't care. Food quality is a 6 out of 10, servers are an 8 out of 10, kitchen gets a 1 out of 10. Now I have a compelling reason not to return. Sorry Luggattis.
Review Source:Would not recommend it.
We went late at night on a weekday so we weren't suprosed that the place was empty. In fact we enjoyed having the whole back patio to ourselves. The service wasn't great but they were nice at least. The reason they get 2 stars is for the lack of flavor and small portion sizes.
I got chicken parmesan which was good but it tasted like I made it at home, and I'm no chef. My boyfriend got the lasagna. It was bland, no spices or seasonings and only 6 bites! I make a way better lasagna at home and for $16 the portion size was ridiculously small.
The food is average and the service is o.k. They try to be "hip" by blaring alternative music, even though most of the patrons are  over 60. I live downtown so it's a convenient place for us, but our most recent experience was very unpleasant. Our waitress was condescending and unfriendly. We told her it was our anniversary and her reply was "oh"... After ordering 2 15$ glasses of wine and receiving our 80$ bill,
She said" oh...happy valentines day or I mean anniversary or whatever" .
I really want to like this place. My suggestion is revamp the menu, turn down the bar atmosphere, and create a more romantic, Italian vibe. It's like they took what could be a quaint Italian restaurant, and crammed it into a sports bar...
Update....I wrote this review 3 months ago and didn't submit it... We have eaten there 7 times..( like I said earlier, we live a few blocks away) ..we ate there last Friday, and it was no better. We will NOT be eating there again. Â Blehhhhhhh
I am really shocked at the negative reviews of Luggatti's, because when I went, it was literally one of the best overall dining experiences I have had in a long time! Â My parents, who complain about most of the "nicer" places I take them to, were even incredibly complimentary about Luggatti's!
Went there for a late dinner and started with the spinach artichoke dip. Â This appetizer was the perfect size for the three of us and we all really enjoyed it. Â The tortilla chips were crisp and fresh tasting and the dip had cheesy, but was not consumed by cheese; you could still really taste the spinach and artichoke.
I ordered the ahi sandwich and it was out of this world. Â I order ahi pretty frequently at many restaurants who specialize in seafood and hands down, the ahi at Luggatti's beat them. Â It was only about $11, had a huge piece of ahi, a soft, freshly baked roll and was served with a massive amount of their delicious seasoned fries...cannot be beat!
My dad got the Big Porker and it was massive! Â The burger was cooked well, just like he likes it, and was smothered in delicious toppings. Â He told me it was one of the best burger's he has ever had. Â If you like really bountiful burgers, that's the one to get!
Finally, my mom got the cowboy burger, and it was so big, she could only finish half. Â The bacon was high quality and not fatty or greasy at all, which she really liked. Â I took a bite and the sharp cheddar cheese was the perfect accent to cut through all of the meat on this burger. Â Definitely the one to get if you want a more simple burger, but with a great range of flavor.
The service was fantastic, our waitress was very personable and her recommendations were great! Â We were able to sit on the patio and enjoy the nice weather, while watching the NBA Playoff's on their TV's. Â If we had asked to be seated inside, there was a Blues band just about to start. Â
Great dining experience and great food! Â Highly recommended if you're in the area and looking for a great bite! Â Another plus, was that it was about 9pm on a Saturday night and it wasn't full of drunk idiots like many other places in the area :)
Horrible. That's all you need to know, but I'll tell you why.
We went on Mother's Day. I guess we should have walked right out after seeing how empty it was inside when all of the other restaurants were packed but we figured we would give it a try.
We ordered from there $5 drink specials for mother's day. My drink tasted like they used POPOV in it or some other very cheap watery vodka. I guess that's what you can expect for $5 but hey they put it on special. My dad decided to order another one of his drinks, but with a top shelf vodka in it this time. It was $18 for the new drink!!!! And it tasted only a step above the first drink, definitely did not taste like top shelf. Maybe they used Barton's that time.
Service was alright. We asked for waters to wash down our horrible mixed drinks. She walked by us about 15 times before she finally brought us waters 20 minutes later. I don't know how you mess up water, I don't know if the glasses were dirty and they didn't rinse all the soap off of them or what, but the water tasted like it had chemicals in it. And it wasn't just one of the waters, all six of our waters tasted bad.
I got the cob salad. The blue cheese dressing was an off-white, almost yellow color...gross. I only ate about a quarter of the salad because it was just not good. Especially for $13. None of us enjoyed the food and we didn't eat much.
Our bill was well over $100 for a large pizza (which tasted like a frozen pizza that they just threw in the oven for a few minutes.), 3 entree salads, a burger, and 3 mixed drinks (2 of which were $5 specials). Over $100?! I would pay that at a good restaurant, but this place was only worth about $10 honestly. If that. Will never return, and will make sure people steer clear of here.
Go to the Pizza Lounge on Main Street by Sushi on Fire and across from El Ranchito. MUCH better drinks, craft beers, and HUGE personal pizzas for cheap.
This is really a 3.5 star place, but I'm feeling generous (and currently polishing off the leftovers), so I'll round up to 4. We started off with the spinach and artichoke dip, which we really enjoyed. Despite containing loads of cheese and cream, it was not heavy. Be forewarned that it's pretty garlicky, which we like, but you may not. The best part might be the homemade tortilla chips, which were a pleasant surprise (we expected the ones from the bag) and quite addictive.
We ate the Calabria pizza, which was a white pizza with caramelized pear, spinach, onions, and fontina. Instead of the chicken and bacon, we got the roasted rosemary potatoes (which were a little undercooked and crunchy). Luggati's gets points for creativity; caramelized pear on a pizza is unexpected but actually pretty good.
We got our appetizer right away, but I echo the other yelpers who complain about the slow service. We waited for what seemed like forever for our pizza to arrive (which also might explain how we easily polished off all the tortilla chips).
Take note that there is live music on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9 pm, and it is very, very loud. We were sitting in the back of the restaurant, far away from the musicians, but we still had to yell at one another and could barely hear.
I used to love this place but it has since gone downhill. I don't know if the owners changed but the menu has definitely changed. It is mediocre Italian food at best. I can make better at home and it's cheaper. So why go out? I am so disappointed because I used to really like this place. If you want really good Italian and great service go to Roman Cucina.
Review Source:Having moved to HB several months ago, we are still trying to find our favorite local restaurants. We came here Sunday night on a whim and we really enjoyed it! The food and ambiance were great. We will most definitely be back! I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and my hubby ordered the lasagna....we both would order our entrees again. Visit Luggatti's, you will not be disappointed :)
Review Source:Luggatti's Italian Grill is a delightful establishment, the food and atmosphere are superb and on weekends you can experience raw, excellent live music. Â I recently visited on a Saturday night, had one of the best pizzas I can remember in years and was treated to the vocal stylings of a young lady named Dayna Lane that absolutely blew my mind. Â Luggatti's has brought back a vibe to Huntington Beach that has been missing since the Golden Bear! Â I would highly recommend Luggatti's to anyone with a taste for good Italian food, libations, and live music! Â I also had to pleasure of meeting the owners Christian and Susan Hamil, absolutely charming folks that genuinely care about their customers.
Review Source:I have never EVER not left a tip. Until today. Actually, that's a lie, I left my coins but that is a first.
I arrived here at 5:35 this evening, a Sunday. In the party there were 3 adults, 2 kids, and 1 toddler. We didn't get out of there until 7:30... I took my last bite at 7:25 so there was no lollygagging afterwards.
We are ordered and squared away within in 20 minutes (I think i'm being generous with that) with ordering our foods, we got all of our drinks.
They were nice to take the kid's order first and their food came out fairly promptly. They finished eating about 20 minutes after they got their food (their food took about 20 minutes) and I shit you not, they sat there for 40 minutes FORTY MINUTES until our food came!
FORTY!!!
They better have jumped in a boat and caught the lobster for my lobster ravioli and the mahi mahi in my friend's dish.
They better have a farm in the back, and killed the chicken for my friend's grilled chicken.
---The Food:
The lobster ravioli was completely inedible. It didn't even look like ravioli... It looked like they only had the middle of the ravioli and not the pasta around it. They also used some sort of lemony, citrus-y sauce that made the entire plate sour. SOUR. After waiting for my meal THAT long and for me to return it just shows how disgusting it was. I ended up ordering a kid's pizza that my son had ordered because that was actually very good!
The chicken in my friend's meal looked absolutely disgusting. It was a weird brown color and it was supposed to be grilled but it had NO grill marks! The inside was even a weird brown color...
---The Service:
The girl was nice but that doesn't equal good service. She only refilled my drink once, I had to ask every time I wanted more (my cup would be completely empty) and they didn't refill the waters until our check came.
The waitress would come by and apologize in the delay but the she would follow up with "is there anything else I can get you?" and all I wanted to say was, "just my food, you dumb bitch," (I'm cranky when I'm hungry D:) but I decided against it. When I did complain about the wait, she said she would ask a manager if he could do anything for us but he didn't come to our table, we weren't offered anything gratis and our bill was for the full price. Which, I know, I shouldn't expect it to have been lower or expect free stuff but I'm pretty certain this shows she didn't speak with the manager on our behalf.
All in all, I hate myself for suggesting this place.
Went back this past Sunday for dinner and it was all downhill... Service was slow.. although the waitress was nice (not attentive, just nice)... Ordered the pork quesadillas, prawns venice and chicken parmesan... I came back here because my last experience was good despite the bad reviews.. I can now agree with the reviewers and will not be coming back to waste my money..
Very disappointed that being an italian restaurant - they cannot serve good food... Our 2 entrees came out - before our appetizer and we didn't get any bread - we had to ask for it... the portions were soooo tiny, it was comparable to a tv dinner.. I wouldve been more happy with a michelinda greasy $1 fettecine....These plates aren't cheap either.. $16-19 a plate... that couldve been over $30 tv dinners I couldve purchased!!!! Â My prawns venice came out looking so disgusting - it looked like throw up - I don't understand how they even served it!! the angel hair pasta was all soggy and broken up, there were no strands in sight... I showed the waitress and she was even surprised how horrible it looked and took the plate back right away... my bf's parm was so lacking volume and had had more sauce than noodles or meat-- the chicken breast was so little it made mcdonalds 6 piece nuggets look like a supersized meal....The appetizer finally came out after almost 10 min of the meal... it was just okay... the green sauce on top of it was horrendous... finally my meal came back out it looked a bit better - only because they changed the noodles up... my meal was suppose to be angel hair - they replaced it with spaghetti... atleast it was better than the boxed angel hair.....so if you're looking for authentic - I wouldn't recommend this place.. Guess I was lucky the first time around because my experience then and now was like day and night... I left here disappointed and I will not be returning...
I came here on sunday for lunch, I had a groupon gift that was about to expire.
The service was great, the waitress was very quick. The place is more of a bar atmosphere, but very nice decor.
The food is completely terrible, you can tell it's frozen food that isn't cooked all the way through. It was very bland for an Italian place. Will not go back and would not recommend. Management and owner really need to work on the food quality!
Geez...what happened here??? I raved about Luggatti's to some friends so we brought them here for dinner over the weekend. Hmmm...I have to say I was kind of embarrassed. While my food was "good"...it just tasted kind of "old"...like the ingredients were not the freshest. Everybody at the table said the same thing.
The waitress was busy and it looked like she was covering quite a few tables.
I'm not sure if I would return here.
Let me start by saying I've been coming here for a long long time... I've always enjoyed the location, the food And the service!
BUT... Of course there's a BUT!!!
They have completely ruined a great downtown location. Â
Happy hour use to be 1/2 off all appetizers and 3 or 4 buck beers! Â Now.. You save maybe a dollar on only 3-4 apps and the beers are 6-7 bucks! Â Not so happy hour at all! Â Too many options downtown to not offer me something great!! Â
Food: Â food was terrible- Â my chicken parm sandwich was below average with not enough sauce or cheese, and just lacked that overall crispyness I look for in a fried parm sandwich! Â The group chose the steak sandwich (over cooked) the large house salad (dry and not that fresh) and the lasagna which came out 15 minutes after everything.
The fried cheese and the fried ravioli are great but were so much better at 1/2 off happy hour. Â
Stay away from the pepperoni chips... Think deep fried oven gristle with a bad oil aftertaste...
The service- Â for being dead in there the service was terribly slow! Â Took 40 minutes to get the lasagna, Â everything came out at different times and the drinks were always empty... Â 3 of the people in our group got sick from something at the restaurant an had a day with the porcelain friend... Â Sorry lugattis but today was Not a good day!
The price- Â if happy hour was back I would probably call the value a 4 star but $1 off appetizers is a joke and won't drive anymore traffic into this place..
I hope they fix this place as I have become a huge fan but with the broken happy hour, poor food and poor service I'm afraid  to come back!
I feel like I want to write a better review with more stars for Luggatti's, but I can't.
Luggatti's started out strong. Â I used to go there often and I used to enjoy myself, but it all seems to have gone down hill. Â It's not so bad that I avoid the place, I still do go from time to time - probably 2 - 3 times a month but it's not really a first choice. Â There is better Italian food to be found, there are definitely better happy hours to be found, and there is better beer/wine selections out there too. Â
They do have live must sometimes. Â That's a redeeming quality. Â Although, it's hit or miss with the musicians there too. Â I've been there when there's only that 1 table (friends/family of the musicians) singling along and paying any attention but I've also been there when the whole bar was rocking out.
So what can I say? Â Check out Luggatti's. Â Decide for yourself.
I only write reviews when the place is absolutely amazing or absolutely terrible, and I regret to say that this place was terrible.
We went there because we had a groupon, $20 for $40 worth of food. Too bad that our disgusting meal was $65. I'm not kidding, Olive Garden is 10x better than this place and less than half the price.
We ordered the romana salad, the pumpkin ravioli, chicken marsala, and a bottle of wine. The only thing I would ever have again was the wine. My boyfriend eats EVERYTHING and he could barely stomach the food here.
The romana salad was supposed to be a take on a caesar salad.. however the dressing was straight up mayonnaise and the lettuce was ice berg. The sun-dried tomatoes were way too dried up and the entire thing was pretty much inedible.
The pumpkin ravioli was something I was able to choke down, but for all the positive reviews on that dish, I certainly expected it to be better. It was way too creamy, and not in a good way, in a chunky creamy way.
My boyfriend ordered the chicken marsala and it was incredibly watery. It came with pasta that was plain and boring.
If you decide to go here anyways - order the 'Poggio Basso Docg' Chianti  - It was actually quite good and only $32 (compared to the other wines, which were much more).
Have not been in HB for some time now but decided to find a place with a nice ambiance, music and some food. Googled this place and decided to head down to see what it was all about. Live music and Happy Hour!
The music was great, the ambiance was as well but quality of drinks was soso... (These guys need to make stiffer drinks and easy on the sugar). The band member was an old friend of the owners and everyone in the resturant got hooked up with free shots for his birthday. I guess that made up for the weak martini...
Parking was not bad for a Saturday night, but as usual is side-street or metered parking. Grabed some bufflo wings and a salad for I figured it would be quick. Salad was not anything to write home about nor were the wings but it italian so I guess I picked the wrong dish to try out.
If I were judging solely on the food, I would give this place 4 stars, but the service gets 1 star, so I'm rounding out with 3.
My friend and I had a groupon, so we went during the week around 4 PM, before the dinner crowd. We were the only two people in the restaurant until a small group came in shortly after us and sat out in the patio area.
PARKING: We parked in the street/parking lot but it was still meter parking, and during a busier time, I could see it being difficult to procure a spot because there are stores and bars all over the place. It's a hot spot for hanging out by the beach.
FOOD: The prices are fair. We decided to go nuts and buy a couple appetizers and a pizza and entree to go over the groupon price then pay the difference. We ordered a Flatbread appetizer (#2 on the menu, $8.95) and it was very good. It took a long time for them to serve us. I think we waited upwards of a half hour, even though we were the only people there. You would think they didn't do any prep work in their kitchen beforehand. But it came to us hot and fresh.
We also ordered the Bruschetta Al Pomodoro ($7.95 Antipasti) but that didn't do it for me. I thought it was extremely bland. But my friend liked it.
We also ordered the Toscana pizza. This is the part that earns the restaurant its stars for me. The crust was thin, and ordinarily I don't like thin crusts because they dry out and become too crunchy. The crust was perfect. Not dry, not soggy, but moist and fluffy with a crisp bottom, and it was a light golden brown. And it tasted good, like they brushed it with something, so it wasn't just a plain bready crust. The toppings were good too and the cheese wasn't overwhelming. I only wish I hadn't filled up on the appetizers so I could have eaten more!
The last entree we'd ordered, which my friend tasted but I didn't have room for, was the Ravioli di Zucca (pumpkin and butternut squash). I had been the one to order it, but she was the one to eat it, and she said she liked it even more than she liked the pizza! So I may have to go back to try that.
SERVICE: We were the only two customers inside the restaurant the whole time we were there. There were 4 staff at the bar a few feet away from us. Two servers were facing the bar, and a server and the bartender were facing us, so they could clearly see us trying to wave them down. Twice, I tried to get their attention and they ignored us. I saw the bartender look at us and just continue their conversation. So I had to get out of my seat and walk over there to ask for refills on our drinks and to get our check. I did not leave a tip, and ordinarily I consider myself a good tipper but that just irked me.
Had a groupon deal for $40 here so decided to give it a try...happy hour everyday 3-7! Â Save a couple bucks for appetizers and drinks!
Calamari: wasn't amazing wasn't bad...it was something nice to munch on and dip in marinara to keep my mouth from being bored!
Garlic twists: did not order this; however, it looked AMAZING. Pizza dough twisted and dusted with garlic, herbs, and cheese. Â Must come back here to get next time!!!
Trentino pizza: this was their "meatball" pizza with riscotta and parmesan cheese. Â I added in mushrooms to spice it up a bit. Â Was very disappointed because pizza was extremely bland! Â No chili flakes or parmesan cheese could have saved this dish. Â The "meatballs" were actually sausage, don't know why they call it meatballs. Â Will never order pizza here again!
Pesto Farfelle: pesto green sauce with bowtie pasta, grilled veggies (which consisted of cut up mushrooms, zucchini, and other small mystery vegetables), sliced roma tomatoes for decoration, and I added in diced sausages. Mmm mm I LOVE pesto and this was cooked to perfection! Â Would come back to get this item!
Came here on a Sunday night with friends. Â It was pretty packed, but we got seated fairly quickly at the patio, which is what we requested. Â Once we were seated, though, it took way too long just to get our drink order in. Â Once we put our drink order in, it took a long time to get our drinks. Â When we asked if we could place our order, they had us wait again. Â When the service is this horrible it doesn't set a very good tone for the rest of dinner. Â We stayed anyways, because we were just so hungry and didn't want to have to start over waiting anywhere else.
I ordered a flatbread, which was priced well, but it was cold. Â They had a band playing, which I usually enjoy at restaurants, but it wasn't worth everything else I experienced there.
Refreshing. Their happy hour was great. Small plates for $6 and well drinks for 4 and my favorite..4.50 bloody marys! YUM. After being there for a while, we were given some delicious bread and oil/balsamic vinegar to dip it in.
We arrived right around 4 and by the time we were finished the place was starting to get packed. The tables are pretty close together so suck it in and think skinny thoughts! I tried a few squares of the margarita flat bread..it was so - so...it was missing something..oh well, a good touch to the numerous drinks we all had there.
I'd love to come back and try some more small bites and of course have some more bloody mary goodness!
So check it out if you are in the area and want to try to get away from tourists. It'll be worth your while :)
This is the worst Italian restaurant in, at minimum, California! The food was cafeteria-grade slop. The service was lacking. The food was over-priced. Â Where do I start?
Chicken marsala: meat was bland and seemed to have been poached. Gross! The sauce was gooey and, worst of all, covered the entire plate. My 'side' of pasta (with red sauce) was put on the dame plate so I was served a soup of brown marsala wine sauce mixed with tomato sauce. Terrible! And the pasta was undercooked. That single plate, that was served by an unattentive waitress wearing jeans and a dirty t-shirt, cost me $18. They had the guts to charge me $3.95 for a super small side salad.
Mis en scene: very disjointed. The prices suggested that we were going to a nice restaurant. The bread was served in a plastic basket; the staff was poorly trained, poorly dressed; and the food was poorly prepared.
The following night, my wife and I ate at the four diamond rated Californian at the Hyatt down the road. That glorious meal, one that we will remember for years to come, cost only $30 more.
Do not go. Spend your money elsewhere.
Great bar staff and by far the best beer selection Downtown. Â Friendly waiters and the owner is there often to ensure a positive experience. Food is good and the dinner specials are often great.
Try the Mediterranean pizza or the pumpkin sage ravioli. Also a nice weekend brunch.
Wish they had a bottomless mimosa cause lets face, what is brunch without one.
Overpriced, American-Italianish food. Got a Groupon and decided to try this place out. I started with Frutti di Mare, which I purposely asked the server if it was fried or how do they make it. He said it was fried seafood, but it came out as a stew, which was not good. The pizza is pretty plain, the best thing I ordered was cannellonis but I have to say that I have experienced much better.
Sorry Lugatti you have  a prime location with an unorganized staff and decent food.
Luggatti's
Service: 3/5
We came in and weren't greeted immediately, but once we were seated, our waiter Jason was terrific. He was very pleasant and was helpful describing what's delightful on their menu. Â He brought out water and my bf's beer quickly and served us fresh just out of the oven bread.
Food: 4/5
We ordered Pork Chop with mash garlic potatoes and it also came with some caramelized veggies. Â I thought this dish was terrific. The meat was worth the extra wait. The mash potatoes were perfect; must try if you visit.
We also ordered Pastissada di Manzo Gnocchi. Â My bf and I loves gnocchi (its pasta made with potatoes). We loved it at Mama D's in Newport Beach; but I do not think we will eat gnocchi at Luggatti's next time. Â We like gnocchi texture to be a bit on the chewy side, not soft. Â The sauce was still really good.
Overall experience: 4/5
I thought this restaurant is beautiful. They had live music while we were there; the musician was really good. Â They separate the pizzeria side from the restaurant side. But you can enter and exit from both side. Â There is a parking structure or meters.
I round the rating up to 4 stars.
Three star food with four and a half star service.
Pumpkin ravioli- No gripes here, a solid ravioli dish with a creamy sauce.
Seafood pasta- This was very good but the sauce wasn't think enough. However, there was a lot of seafood in it.
Artichoke dip- Pretty good but not mind blowing and forgettable.
Why I liked it: The atmosphere is romantic and fun and perfect for a date night. They also have not too loud live music and dark wooden furnishings which I love. Nice server.
What needs work: Service was a bit slow, no bread on the table until after main dishes came out, molten lava cake was a bit dry and not much lava inside.
Otherwise, I had a great time here and would probably come back again.
The wife and I celebrated my birthday at Luggatti's this past Tuesday night. The live entertainment was a young guitarist/vocalist by the name of Justin Alexander. He played a great song list of music from "my generation" (late 60's and 70's mostly but some more recent stuff as well). He even played Ziggy Stardust! Justin is brand new on the scene, having recently moved here from Detroit. He has an incredible voice and applies her personal touch to stylize each song selection in a way that really works. So, music was A+. I believe he will be playing on Tuesday nights for a while but not sure how long.
Now, for the food and service... I had the fettuccine fiesole and the wife had the pizza margherita. Both dishes were outstanding and the fettuccine fiesole had a generous amount of giant prawns. I had two glasses of the Franziskaner Hefe Weiss, which was excellent. The service was great too.
The proprietor, Christian, has really done a great job of creating something special at Luggatti's. The place has a cool vibe and a mature adult feel that stands as a welcome alternative to the young party scene on Main Street. Luggatti's is fast becoming my favorite hangout.
I come here quite often so the wait staff knows us. Â They are very friendly and accommodating.
The best thing about this place is that it's almost a hidden gem. Â During the daytime and early evening on the weekends it's pretty laid back, but they generally have a live band playing music at night. Â They also have the latest and only happy hour (all day till 7) in downtown Huntington beach on the weekends. Â The happy hour and early bird menu help to keep it cheaper than most places downtown.
I've had a few of the pizzas, which are quite tasty, and I absolutely love the pumpkin ravioli. Â I only wish the portions were bigger. Â The food can sometimes be hit or miss. Â It's never bad.... just sometimes it's amazing and other times it's just OK.
They have an excellent variety of beer on tap to try. Â Go for the Maudite! and don't forget to ask for some of the free bread (make sure it's fresh).
Ok, what?
Here's what I liked:
The service was very good, considering I arrived right before the dinner rush on a Saturday.
The sangria was nice and tart, with firm grapes and sweet pieces of ripe cantaloupe.
The bruschetta was really good. "Yea, it's just bread with tomato and olive oil and basil." Actually, no, it's not. This bread was thick and slightly crispy, topped with olive oil, a bit of salt, fresh cut tomatoes, a bit of garlic, and some thinly cut pieces of basil, all in just the right amount. For some reason, I've gotten the stuff that's thin slices of cold bread, with premade bruschetta topping scooped on top 5 minutes after I order it, so I really liked this version.
The bar area is perfect for watching any game. Want some ambiance AND watch the Clippers lose after a day at the beach? Here's yo spot.
What I didn't care for:
The eggplant appetizer. It was a hot mess. The eggplant wasn't deep friend long enough so it was hot on the outside but a bit cooler in the center. And it was mushy so I figured out that it needed to be thinner slices of eggplant or a thicker batter. Or something. The sauce on it was fun but jesucristo, this is too much queso. It was too cheesy.
That I didn't know there was a happy hour until just now. I'm a fool.
Don't get dinner here maybe, but some of the simpler items seem fine.
i'll keep this short
I live in the neighborhood - so with most of the local spots i try out the happy hour first to get a sense of the quality of goods (just for reference my favorite spots for food in /around the main street area are zimzala and cucina alessa). Â so tried this place despite the poor reviews... well the reviews are right.
the staff was good so no slight on them... but the food was the definition of mediocre - this is what i had:
meatball sliders - edible but boring - perfect for those that enjoy the bland
formaggio friable - fried cheese - but for some reason these little triangles of cheese had a weak breading and strangely the cheese was still cold on the inside. Â
also had two other things but they were so forgettable i don't recall what they were. Â the bread given at the table was not fresh and the olive oil/vinegar just lacked flavor (actually they just tasted like the cheapest olive oil/balsamic the owner could buy)
so that's that... i guess the original owners had a better handle on things based on the comments previously posted. Â but if you want italian in the area walk the couple of blocks to cucina alessa - everything is just head and shoulders above this place.

It's not working out with Luggatti's either. Not to be harsh, but the food sucked. Our server was excellent and the space is quite beautiful, but the food was spectacular at being bland. The calamari and popcorn shrimp were edible, but the margherita flatbread and spinach salad warrant a break-up.
"KC still wants to eat...just not with you. Do you have a sister?"
It is not the old lugattis.
Drafted this review in 2011, went back two more times After that because of groupon and review stands.
We were so excited to see it open we moved our group over from hb beer company. Bad move. The bread was ok,not the same and we waited 15 mins and asked twice for the oil and vinegar, why not just put it on the table?
Out of 8 entrees only one was edible. Spaghetti was sticky and clumped together you could pick up the whole serving in one bite, it was disgusting.  the stuffed chicken with lemon gross, tasted like lemon meringue pie. Antipasto not the same small and expensive not even close to the old one. The linguini with clams was so salty it was inedible.  We didn't order  pizza because we saw one go out and it was clearly different.  The menu is different, and for sure the kitchen staff changed.  Staff is good but the quality and consistency of the food is why we were regulars before and now it is the reason we won't go back.
Cannoli used to be best part now its chalky and has no flavor.
I repeat not one thing we had was good, most of it was left on the table or the starving people choked theirs down. Â
Was so excited that it was reopened. Now so sad it did. I would have liked to remember the old lugattis the way it was.
The new lugattis is like the old fat Elvis trying to be that superstar of days gone by. Â It doesn't work. Â
Back to Spark where food is consistent and good.
We got a groupon for Luggatti's as a gift so my husband and I decided to check it out this past weekend. After reading all the yelp reviews I was prepared for some bad service, because that's what most of the reviews have complaints about. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the service was actually very good. I definitely do not have any complaints about the service. Our waiter was very attentive and considerate and in fact, all the other servers who walked by our table checked on us to make sure we were ok.
As far as the food, it was also very good. The highlight of the meal was my husband's entree - the Linguini al Pescatore. It was soooo good. I had a bite and ended up taking more off his plate. My lasagne was good, but it was the linguini I would come back for.
Luggatti's was good. It was definitely on the pricier side. Without the groupon, our meal would have been over $70 for two of us. But if I wanted to splurge for a nice meal, I'd defintely come back...especially for the Linguini al Pescatore.
This rating is purely based on the food, not service, etc. Â I picked up food there since I had a Groupon that was expiring soon and didn't really have the time to go in and eat. Â I would say the Fettuccine Alfredo was the best I have ever had! Â Their menu being really Italian sort of confused me. Â I also got the Raviolli Beef Brasato which tasted good but I thought it was an entree like the Fettuccine Alfredo, turns out it's 8 pieces of pasta with beef in them. Â It wasn't an entree in any way, shape or form. Â More like a $19 appetizer.
4 stars for great Alfredo, -1 star for a confusing and sort of tricky menu.
I used to love Luggattis and was excited when they reopened. I had heard a lot of negative things since the reopening but still went tonight with an open mind. I was so Disappointed :(
Started with: bread hit the table but no oil or vinegar ( okay no biggie ) had to ask ( still all good )
To Order: a mixed drink ( didn't come out right ) but took a while.. So didn't want to send it back.
Got the wrong entree and wrong salad. Once we we finally got what we ordered all we wanted to do was GET OUT! That also took forever thanks to our missing server :(
