Ian's review is spot-on. Â A great diner with great service and prices. Â I am normally working during breakfast and lunch but try to get there as often as I can. Â I've almost always ordered one of the specials, which are normally something you can find on the regular menu, just at a discounted price. Â They usually have quite a few specials and I always have a hard time deciding on just one thing to order. Â It's a must if you're in Schuylerville and looking for a good diner.
Review Source:Mac's Diner is a basic casual hometown diner/restaurant located in downtown Schuylerville, which serves up breakfast (all day) and lunch. The place has an L shaped lunch counter with several tables and booths in one dining area, kitchen in the back. There are lots of old framed pictures on the side wall. The natural light from outside shines through the big storefront windows.
They offer the typical breakfast dishes, as well as lunch items including sandwiches, subs, burgers, chicken tenders, soups, chili, and desserts (homemade strawberry shortcake and ice cream). Â Machristay's Coffee (Chris' Coffee Service) and Pepsi fountain drinks are served here. Daily specials are posted behind the lunch counter. The prices here are very reasonable, most items $6.95 or less.
I decided to have lunch at Mac's Diner very recently around 1PM. I tried last month to have breakfast here, but the place was closed on the MLK holiday.
It's seat yourself, so I sat up the lunch counter for prompt service. I quickly looked over the menu and specials and I was also told I could get breakfast too, just no more omelettes. I did notice the homefries were fresh cut and deep fried. I wanted a comfort dish, so it was a toss up between the chili and the beef stew and I went with the latter.
The beef stew ($5.95) served with a toasted buttered hard roll (actually soft) was served to me in about 5 minutes, piping hot. Though not a fancy stew and not too thick, had tender beef chunks, carrots, peas, and potatoes. This stew was hearty tasting and very filling. That was enough food. Unfortunately for me, I didn't have any room for dessert, the strawberry shortcake with homemade biscuits.
I think next time I'm passing through town, I'll come back hungry and try out the chili and some dessert. The service was attentive and prompt. That's always a good thing.
