My dad has occasionally mentioned Mac's to me a couple times but I kept forgetting to try it out, until yesterday. Â I came in for lunch with my dad, when I walked in my immediate thought was, "this is it?" Â When I hear that it's a bar that serves good food & has live music, I picture a much bigger place. Â Mac's is tiny, has maybe 10 tables, a bar & small stage, the bathrooms aren't even in the main room, you have to go out the side door & down a hallway, interesting. Â We sat at the bar & looked at the menu, I like how they make them appear as record albums & cut out the center of the records & use them as coasters for the bar. Â I tried their cheeseburger, which was cooked perfectly & tasted great. Â Their fries were unseasoned wedges & tasted kind of bland, but a few cranks of the sea salt shaker helped. Â Overall, Mac's is a nice, mature place to grab a drink or lunch & is close to home
Review Source:Hubby and I , being Palatine residents, wanted to try Mac's  few weeks ago on a Saturday around noon hoping to have our first lunch experience there ,but there was a sign on the door that day that read: "closed for a private party". So yesterday we thought "let's try Mac's again". We walked in the front door around 12:30 pm (Saturday), there were a few people sitting at the bar and 2 tables seated in the dining room. There was one man bartender/server that was taking care of both the bar and dining patrons. We seated ourselves at a table expecting to be handed menus shortly thereafter or  being asked if we'd like something to drink. Instead, we waited to be acknowledged. And we waited, and waited and waited. As we waited,we watched the  male employee slowly work the register entereing an order or finalizing a patrons food/drink bill. He then picked up food at the window to the kitchen and delivered salads to one table. Then we watched him bring two ladies their check. Then he delivered two young boys that were with the men at the bar, two sodas. The  dining room is quite small so we knew the server  had to have noticed us sitting there. Never did he make eye contact with us, never did we hear  "hello folks, I'll be with you as soon as I can"- NOTHING. It was as if we were invisible. After we sat at the table for  10-15  minutes unacknowledged, I said to my husband " that's it, we're leaving".We got up and headed for the door and left. Even as we left, nothing was said, no acknowlegment still.  We have many restaurants that we love in the suburbs but like to patronize our Palatine friends when we can. We probably won't go back to Mac's again. It was like a slap in the face. Without mentioning names, we headed to another downtown Palatine restaurant where we  were immediately greeted with a smile and  escorted to a table where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Sadly Mac's lost two first time customers who may have become regulars, had we just been acknowledged. Instead we came and went feeling as though we were nothing less than invisible patrons.
Review Source:Great food be careful of who is serving you. No question extra care is taken in food prep & presentation however one particular server/bartender is less then adequate. Inattentive, terrible drink maker, and VERY slow. This is by no means an exaggeration or a review by a finicky foodie, it is simply an unfortunate fact. Just keep in mind if you choose Mac's for your next meal, the food will not disappoint, but you will need your patience when it comes to the service.
Review Source:Great new addition to Palatine! Â It took a long time to open, but it was worth the wait. Â
If you are familiar with the area, it is in the old Mint Julep Bistro location - with some significant remodeling.
The food is tasty, I have eaten here a number of times, both lunch and dinner. Â I really enjoy the Chorizo and Black bean flat bread. Â Great for sharing! Â All the food I have had has been good. Â Also important to note is that there are a number of vegetarian options if that is your thing. Â For a place as small as it is, it is nice to see variety on the menu for my friends who aren't meat eaters.
I am a big fan of live music and it is a great new local venue to check out. Â It is a smaller room so make sure you get there early to get a seat. Â The bartenders are friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Â The crowd is not the usual, 20 something, over served bunch that you see at other Palatine hot spots. Â I will be back for sure!
We just ate here for lunch with our whole office, 9 of us. Every meal was excellent! Make sure to try the baked artichoke and spinach dip for appetizer. Had the best meat loaf I ever have eaten. I was quite surprised and delighted by the sophistication of the flavor and meals as I sampled around our table.
Review Source:Went to Mac's opening night last Sunday night and had a blast seeing a good acoustic guitar band w/ owner Mac playing electric bass playing well worn but solid Boomer hits from the '60's & '70's. The place was packed with 40+ crowd having a fine time. Â A great fit in the heart of Palatine.
Will try the food menu next time - not many places in town offer walleye so certainly worth trying.
