Mayan Bar & Grill / Brass Elephant

Stopped by to fulfill my high school memories and it's closed. Supposedly turning into a Japanese themed establishment...

This place was probably happening in the 1910's-20's.  When you were traveling cross country and needed a room to stay.  When you first walk in you have a dive bar like to your left.  Then you walk towards the vintage counter desk.  Real old man that can hardly breath with a peculiar look in his eyes.  Charges you $30 w/o a credit card hold and hands you an actual key.  You walk up the dark outdated flight of stairs that lead to another era.  This place looks like an old abandon dorm room.  Small rooms all lined up down the creepy maroon carpeted hallway.  You enter and bathroom has old plumbing with bar soap in pedestal sink.  The room has no AC but an old fan.  The bed has no actual bed frame just a box spring and a mattress.  I thought we were going to get murdered.  I only stayed because we had had too much to drink at the Gem City down the street.

"Temporarily" CLOSED for renovations. Remember that identity crisis I was talking about??

I am not aware of a reopening date. Rumours have swirled that their liquor license got suspended. I haven't been able to find anything to support that rumour.
