If you are looking for a great evening of reggae, dancehall, roots, dub, r&b, hip-hop, soca, and vintage r&b, then Memory Lane is the place on Fridays and Saturdays.
I was new to the area, and was invited by a friend's mom, who goes regularly. Immediately, I was impressed by the bar service, great prices for solid drinks, and the DJs Thursday - Friday. They are open for special events and promotions pretty much every night, but I really enjoy going on Saturday. If you go before 9pm you will enjoy the "ballroom" style of dance that I had only seen once before, and that was in Jamaica!
The later it gets on Saturday, the younger the crowd gets, but it always feels safe. The owner is there every night, and the security is tight. There is a cover charge after 9pm, I believe. Thursday is normally disco and old-school music of all genre.
You will enjoy Memory Lane. It feels just like home. Especially if you have been to Peppers Cafe in Kingston . . . we just need bottle sales and a sandy floor!
PS - the food is decent too, but don't go there for it . . . . go for the music, vibes, and people watching.
