I have been coming here for nearly 20 years now. Â I started as a tike coming for burgers and wings with my parents. Â Now as an adult I still return on a regular basis for a pint and an order of wings and fries. Â The set up is... lets just say a little off. Â As you enter the front of the bar you will see an average size bar area with a 3-4 tables of to your left and another tucked in the right corner by the bar. Â The odd part will be right in front of you. Â There is kind of a small "island." Â it is more or less a 12 x 2 lacquered over and a few bar stool to sit on. Â You can see one or two groups of people hanging out here. Â It is kind of a communal rest while you are waiting for a seat at the bar or a table to open up. Â
If you take a turn to your left you will open into another room. Â There are several booths spitting the two rooms and as you enter the far room, more tables for your dining pleasure. Â Again you will see something out of the ordinary. Â And old bar agains the far wall. Â Not so strange you may say. Â Well this bar has long sense ben abandoned my it's tender, and now serves as a seating area for patrons. Â You make take up a chair at either side of the bar. Â
Now on to the food. Â The wing here is King. Â The best in the city by my reckoning. Â Cook to the perfect about of crispy without frying it to a crisp. Â For company I personally order some french fries with a side of blue cheese for the dipping of these starch delights. Â To wash it all down I'll order a Lager pint.
To be specific, for any out of towners reading this. Â "Lager" here in The NEPA refers to a Yeingling Lager. Â
On to the staff! Â They have ben at this a long time, and know how to treat a customer. Â The proper way. Â If they seem to not be getting your next drink right away, it's because this place gets busy. Â And if it isn't, I have been know to look to my left and have a full frosty beverage sitting there without me even knowing it was once emptied. Â
For the decor. Â It is a nice Irish pub! Â Down to the hard wood bar and tables. Â There are dozens of figurines on high shelfs. Â These figurines are caricatures of celebrities throughout time. Â And depending on the holiday at hand, they can be found dressed in a festive manor. Â
To wrap this all up. Â Mickey Gannon's is on the top of my list, and it should be on yours too!
This is it. Â The best bar restaurant in Scranton. Â There is nothing unique/unusual on the menu just really tasty bar food. Â For my money these are the BEST hot wings in towns. Â Cold beer, good food, pleasant staff. My only complaint is that sometimes the place gets swamped because so many people know and love this place.
Review Source:I love Gannon's!! Â Whenever I come home to Scranton one the first things I must do is go to Gannon's for beer and wings. Â I live in Cali now but I often day dream about those wings nobody does them like Gannon's- spicy with a bit of sweetness and plenty of blue cheese and veggies. Â The service is always efficient and friendly.
Aww! I gotta go home to have some wings!
Mickey Gannon's is a perfect example of a pub. Â It's everything you could want from a small neighborhood watering hole. Â The beer is cold, the food is good, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Â
Tuesday is wing night and usually gets very crowded very quickly, but most any other night you wander in, find a seat at a table or a bar and settle in for a night of conversation and great bar fare. Â The best wings in Scranton, bar-none. Â They are always crispy and the hot sauce has a sweetness to it; just a basket of greatness every time you order. Â That being said; they don't come quickly. Â You need to plan ahead and order your wings almost as soon as you sit down, but they are well worth the wait. Â (They also have one of the best burgers in town, also)
The prices are just about what you expect at a bar, and the parking can sometimes be a situation, but the bar itself and the food they serve are top flight and just cannot be beat. Â Try them!
(They don't accept credit cards, so make sure you bring cash)
