Brian hit the nail on the head describing it as a north woods type of place. If you have been to local small town places across Wisconsin or central Illinois, it reminds me of that. There are the locals sitting at the bar, but there food is decent. They're pizza is VERY good! We order their pizza to go and I have no issues bringing my 7 and 6 year old in while we wait for it. In fact we have eaten there with the kids before. the service has always been good. Local people running a local business.
Review Source:I did not care for this place. The service was slow and for being a dive bar our cocktails were over priced! My boyfriend ordered the Wallie and got trout. I ordered a personal pizza, thin crust and easy sauce. The pizza was thick crust and drenched in sauce! It was even pooling under the crust too! So soggy! Skip this place and hit any other  bar.
Review Source:Okay, we've been there 4 times in the last couple of months and I thought I wrote a review but it looks like I haven't.
As others have said it's also known as Elmer's Doghouse (North).
This has become our new favorite place in town. Â We've tried many things off the menu already and at least in the month of July, if you go on Sunday, most everything (except the steaks and larger fish dinners) are half price!!
Pizza was really really good although since it was half price I think they cut back on the sausage (we'll order again on a normal night and see)
The bbq pork chop sandwich comes either grilled or deep-fried. Â Go deep-fried or don't go at all, it's unbelievable.
We've tried the burgers, sandwiches and the fish fry is AMAZING.
Service tends to be a bit slow but you know what, who the hell wants to be rushed through dinner anyway? Â Ease up and enjoy the pace. Â If you want fast food, there's plenty of drive-thrus around.
You'd drive right by this place thinking that it's some "old man bar" or "dive" which, at times it might be, but everyone is super friendly, family friendly (coloring books and crayons at the front door). Â Plenty of flat-screen tv's showing all the sports (especially NASCAR)
Mike's reminds me of a few of the very good Northwoods small pubs/lodges that I've been to up near Hayward, Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters, etc. Â This is going to be a standby for us for a long time to come.
This place is out in the middle of nowhere! You have an industrial area and you have Mike's Place! This place is a little dive plain and simple. I did not order any food but I did have a few beers. I did have an opportunity to check out some of the stuff that other patrons were eating and by looks alone, I was pretty damn impressed. The place looked a little worn down but this is the kind of atmosphere that I seek out in a bar. The staff was friendly and i wish I had the opportunity to hang out a bit longer than I did. If I lived closer, I could easily see myself becoming a regular.
Review Source:This place looks like your typical bar & grill on the side of the road in or near a small town. Â It's also known as Elmer's Doghouse (North), which cracks me up. Â I've been here for carry-out at lunch a couple of times recently and I have to say I'm impressed. Â Their menu is quite extensive, especially in the fried fish/seafood category. Â They even have frogs legs which I love! Â So far though I have only tried their tavern burger which is large and perfectly greasy, served on toast; and their pizza which is cheap and delicious with a thin, crispy crust. Â I was also quite amuzed that both times nearly all the barstools at the bar were filled with boozers and it was only noon, LOL!
