It's a pretty decent sports bar really. Service is usually good and I like the chicken tenders with the seasoned fries. It's a college hangout mostly. I like to get a drink here before Snickerz or meet up with a friend for a quick bite and a few pitchers. It's a pretty lively bar on the weekends.
Review Source:I'm new to this area and wanted to find some place to watch some college football. Â So we went to Mitchells on Saturday, arriving about 11:30am. Â First of all, this place does have a lot of tvs, 27 I believe I read and I'd believe it, but almost all are 32" tvs and despite looking great they are mounted about 6 foot on the wall and most of the tables are low rider tables so you really cannot see the tvs that well. Â We originally got one of the few high tables near a tv and thought we'd be good but the game we wanted to watch was not available on that tv, apparently they have both comcast and directv and only certain tvs have certain games. Â
So despite having to move to a low table and sit further away and further down than I would have liked we went ahead and ordered some wings. Â The wings were excellent, some of the best wings I've ever had and cheap too compared to the BW3's and Hooters of the world. Â The server and manager were also both very accommodating in catering to our needs. Â Their free wi-fi was extremely fast, I was able to watch a game on my iPad without any hiccups at all, almost unheard of for most bars. Â
However, once the games began this place was way too quiet. Â Whoever rated them as "LOUD" on here must have a different idea of what loud is or else went there during the Super Bowl or something. Â All I know is this place was about as quiet as a library during the time we were there. Â Although every table in the place was filled everyone just sat and talked quietly, most watching their game but not cheering or anything. Â At one point when our team scored my girlfriend said "YES!" somewhat above a regular speaking voice and everyone looked at her like "WTF?" Â
There's a quite a bit of older people here getting breakfast (they start serving breakfast at 8am and serve it all day I believe, so there's some 70+ years old elderly folks eating breakfast there) so perhaps that is why everyone was afraid to get lively and enjoy themselves. Â If that's the case they need to figure out which audience they are targeting. Â All I know is I cannot enjoy a game if I'm forced to cheer in silence. Â I also find it difficult to enjoy a game when I'm trying to view a 32" TV from 10-12 feet away and about 5 feet below it. Â Because of these two reasons I definitely did not enjoy my time at this bar when I was trying to watch my team play.
In fairness the manager did say this was more of a Sunday place to be for Colts games. Â They really need to liven the place up a bit, maybe get some fight songs going or an emcee or do some contests or something to get some social interactions and some fun going on. Â Or maybe they don't want to drive away the elderly diners, who knows. Â And I can't understand why any sports bar would equip all the walls with 32" HDTVs (there was one 42" HDTV where you walk in but it's in a bad place to see as it's back is to the bar) and have no large screen (60" or larger) anywhere to be found. Â There is a 60" outside and we considered watching it out there as it was a nice day but there was way too much glare. Â Management needs to get a visor over the TV so that you can see it during the day, otherwise it's pretty much useless if there is any sun at all. Â
Getting back to the tvs inside issue though, the wall we watched our game had three 32" HDTVS. Â They really should get rid of two of those and replace with one 70" or 92" HDTV or projector screen. Â Or at least put a couple of large screen HDTVs in somewhere else where there is space for the "big game" of the week. Â Having no large screen tvs is inexcusable for a modern, recently built sports bar in my opinion.
Bottom line: We left at halftime to go home and watch it on my 32" tv at home. I won't be coming back here for any big games or to see either of my teams play. Â I could however see myself coming here for games that don't involve any teams of mine or just to eat some of their delicious wings. Â This place has a lot of potential to be great but they seriously need to get some big TVs and get some energy. Â As it is now it's less of a sports bar where you go to watch the game and more of a restaurant that just happens to have some sports playing on tvs on the wall.
P.S. - How can the waitresses who work here not know what a "tall boy" beer is? Â I ordered one and instead of getting a tall draft beer got a 22 ounce bottle of beer. Â I suppose technically that's a tall boy but every other sports bar gives you a tall draft beer when you say tall boy....
P.S.S - I felt sort of bad giving this place 2 stars, like I said their food is fantastic, its priced well and their staff is extremely friendly and helpful, but I cannot give them a higher rating until they address the lack of spirit and large screen tvs. Â Or if they are going to keep their current tvs then the majority, if not all, of their tvs need to be converted to tall tables so that you can see the televisions better by having them at eye level.
