First, know that everything is made fresh that day over a long overnight process, so when they are out the are out. Â They do their best to make enough, but if they were extra busy that day and you come in right before closing, there is a 50/50 chance that they will be out of what you're craving. Â Good is great. Â Slaw is vinegar based and crunchy and has green peppers in it. Meat is always tender
Review Source:Well this review may not be entirely accurate so take it for what it's worth but my first visit to Moes went with me not even eating there, I had heard from a BBQ rib master that this place has the best ribs in town also heard from someone that eats there 3 times a week that they have the best wings in town so me and two others were looking forward to trying both, so we drove there from Athens and while it did look like a nice little place when ordering we found out they were out of ribs, this was knock 1, how can a BBQ joint run out of ribs? Then comes knock two, they only do their wings one way, that is with a sweet sauce, I like spicy and not sweet meat so needless to say we left, maybe I will try it again when they have ribs but after my first visit and looking forward to some good food needless to say we were disappointed.
Review Source:I really have to respect any place that lets you count banana pudding as a side. Â
'I'd like some pulled pork with banana pudding X 2 as my side dishes please- no beans or potato salad, thank you very much.' Â
For me, this place might tie for second best ribs in Huntsville. Â
Ribs- very tender, moist, not much gristle, no burnt edges, easy to remove from the bone. Â Now that I know they rub their sauce on, I'll get it on the side next time so I can really taste the meat. Â Good ribs don't need sauce, and these are good ribs!
Collard greens- this was a special side for the day- the greens were fresh and cooked well. Â Someone must've accidentally dumped too much vinegar in the mix though. Â I like vinegar, but I felt like I was drinking it. Â Less vinegar please- these greens stand on their own.
Lima beans- this was another special side- tasty, I like lima beans and I like that there were vegetable options besides cole slaw or baked beans.
Cornbread- I'm on the fence about the cornbread- it was slightly sweet, without a strong corn taste...it wasn't bad at all, but it wasn't overly impressive. Â
I like that there is a host of meats of try; I'll be back for more ribs and maybe even the chicken and turkey.
I didn't have much of an expectation when I visited Moes. I mean, really...another bbq joint in town? How different could it be? Well, I was wrong. I think Moe's may be my favorite bbq place in Huntsville. The bbq itself is awesome and the sides are not just decoration, they really stand alone as excellent dishes in and of themselves. The cornbred is excellent as well.
The only thing I don't care for is how busy it gets at lunch time...but that is a testament to just how good it is. I don't go at lunch anymore, but have been at "off peak" times and love it all the more.
We eat at Moe's once a week; well, maybe a little less now that Mellow Mushroom opened.
Great ribs, great shrimp (MoBoy), great catfish, and great smoked turkey. Small sides? Maybe for a Wal-Mart shopper, but not for a healthy Alabamian (even if there aren't too many of those around).
I ended up here after battling the Sunday Brunch wasteland that is Huntsville. Â Ok food, Â nothing I would go out of my way for. The BBQ chicken I had was dry and so were my husband's ribs. Â I was told the sides were homemade but nothing tasted like it had been baked with love before it made it to our plates. Â The best thing were the baked beans-sweet and peppery surprising goodness.
Review Source:Moe's BBQ is just fine. Is it the best BBQ I've ever ever had, ever? No, but it's pretty damn tasty - and for those naysayers, give me some recommendations where else to try BBQ in H'ville and it's on.
Yesterday I stopped in and split a pulled pork platter with my mom, 'cause that's what you do. Take your mom out to lunch. For the two of us, the main with two sides was the perfect amount of food, although I can see how a super hungry person would need a full meal. Plus, why weigh yourself down with bread in a sandwich? That's just filler. Give me the good stuff.
First off, you'll either love or hate their sauce. I'm a fan of thick, vinegary sauces, so naturally I love Moe's. If you want more sauce, you'll have to head up to the drinks counter to get more, as only hot sauce is placed at the tables.
Secondly, don't expect the size of the sides to knock your socks off. They're pretty conservative.
Pulled pork: Very tender, huge chunks of meat, conservatively topped with sauce.
Cornbread: moist yet crunchy on the outside. Yes.
Fried green tomatoes: freaking delish. We decided they were soaked in some kind of vinegar concoction to make them tender, fried to perfection, and topped with a tangy sauce and red onions.
Squash casserole: Sadly, they were out of this so we subbed with mac-and cheese. The mac can be disconcerting because it's a little clumpy. But that's 'cause they use real cheese. And it's yummy.
Banana pudding: they comped us a dessert for the lack of squash. All right by me! Thick and sweet and studded with nilla wafers but nary a banana in sight.
Verdict: I'll be back for sure, 'cause this is some good ish. Can't comment on the beer or HH, but I did see a well-stocked fridge by the door.
My friend Mike and I stopped in here this Sunday the Place looks nice flat screen TV and music playing. We ordered the pork plate with two sides each I had potato salad and beans and Mike got beans and slaw it was pulled pork it was moist and tender but without any good flavor no real smoke flavor what little bark I had was very light in flavor and not crusty at all. The sauce was very mild ok flavor but very mild and no other sauce was offered. The sides were good the beans were better than most the potato salad was good and made in house I would guess Mike said the slaw was good it also came with corn bread that was nice. Â Over all a bit disappointing I think I will try another place next time.
Review Source:One word, excellent! Â Very comfortable atmosphere with picnic tables outside, plenty of seating inside with flat screens TVs to watch sports etc. Â The BBQ and the sides are great...first time there.....will be going back. Â This place is a botique style restaurant as there are not hundreds of them, they are picky on who gets to open where and give owner/operators slack to design and present the restaurant how they want. Â You won't be disappointed.
